Brodit active holder for the S3 - Galaxy S III Accessories

This looks really nice to have. I'm in sales and drive around all day long. Having a mount like this that will also charge would be great to have. Anyone have one, gonna get one or have previous experience with a different phone?

Some are talking about it in the car holder post .
jje

thanks JJ. I need to learn how to use this forum better! lol

I'm also currently looking at getting the active holder for the S3, currently have one for the HTC HD2 and it's been fantastic, much better than any of the vent mounts and windscreen mounts I've tried over the years!
However, my wife has just upgraded to the HTC One S, so I got the Brodit Active Holder for that phone and I'm just in the progress of sending it back! It is a poor fit for the phone and very difficult to align up the usb into the phone, possibly due to the usb being on the side of the phone. I don't have that problem with my HD2 with the usb being on the bottom and hopefully not with my new Galaxy S3 when it arrives!

I'll buy the fixed mount version if it works with a slim TPU case.

If it's anything like the one Brodit made for the HTC Desire HD, it's a perfect fit so it doesn't leave any room for a case. I loved it for the DHD but I think a really need a case for the S3, so I'm looking for something different this time.

Yeah, what Brodit/Proclip USA generally do is make perfect fitting holders leaving little to no room for cases. However, in very popular devices (iStuff for example) they make different variants suitable for different sized cases. Hopefully the GS3 will fall into this category in a couple months when it's in full force globally.
--edit-- just checked proclipusa and it appears they only make multiple designs for iDevices. Even the SGSII was a one design case. Hopefully all variants of the SGSIII will be the same dimensions and they will realize there is a market for a holder for this device with TPU and or other slim cases. But, I think your best bet would be a dremel lol.

Is The only way to get one of these right now form the UK? doesn't show a clip available for any of my vehicles.

You can check at Brodit's website who are the distributors in your country. Also, I don't think it's actually out yet, even in the UK.

Brodit S3 holder resistor?
Hello, I'm using my S3 really often in the car. I've made me a cable with the resistor to automatically activate car mode and enable full charging (bridge from USB Data+ to USB Data-) :good:
Now I found this really nice active car holder from brodit and want to know whether these mods are there, too? Or if there is any possibility to add them?

nice car holder for s3 with skin
This is what I have been after brodit holder for s3 with case on. http://brodit.se/product.html?id=512409&pn=prod&brand=Samsung&model=Galaxy S III i9300 hhopefully available soon.

I have the brodit active mount, although it was originally for an iphone 3gs, i just modified it slightly to fit my gs3.

I will post up the quick guide I have written and the photos when I have 10 posts. It was fairly easy to do, and the main reason I modded the iphone one is because A) I already had it and B) as far as im aware brodit dont make a dock which is adjustable to fit phones with cases for the gs3, whereas they did/do for the iphone.
Will post the guide when I have permission.

I travel alot and one of the main reasons I bought the GS2 was for the big screen to use with Nav. Just ordered this today. Will post pics and review
REVIEW:
Got the dock today. Gotta say, not too bad. Although I don’t really think it’s worth more than about $25 tops. The build quality is ok. Everything is plastic, but it feels kind of light (the suction holder). Guess that’s a good thing if it’s being mounted to the windshield.
What’s included: Phone Dock, Suction Holder, Car Charger, Sticky suction pad (to use on your dash)
Suction Holder
There are 3 main components to this. The suction it pretty heavy duty. Probably better than my Garmin windshield mount. Once positioned on the glass, there’s a lever you push down drawing the air out making for a pretty good and strong contact. To release it from the windshield is just as easy. Just pull the same lever up to release.
The holder allows for full 360 rotation of the phone. Loosen the round knob to position and tighten. Once tightened, it’s pretty snug.
Where the phone dock connects, the suction holder has a little spring loaded push lever that’s used to clamp the phone dock to the holder. Same method is used to release the phone dock.
Phone Dock
Again, it’s pretty light. I wouldn’t say it’s feels cheap but just really light. The phone fits in pretty sung. It’s definitely not going anywhere. The dock also has a cut out for the camera, which is nice if you want to take pics of the road or maybe even a video of the guy in front of you with a lowered Silverado with a mural of his trunk on his tailgate 
Once the phone is in, the bottom end of the phone dock slides in and out making the usb contact. On the back of the dock, you have a micro usb port for charging and a 3.5mm line out jack. My only concern is with time, this portion will get loose. Seems like there’s 2 positions this click into as you slide it one way or the other.
Car Charger
It’s a micro usb car charger. Nothing more to say. Always good to have a spare one.
The dock definitely DOES NOT accept the phone with any cases. Don’t know about skins though. It’s a pretty sung fit with. Going to head over to TMO sometime this week and pick up the a ZAGG Dry application skin and see.
Figured it would, but as soon as you slide the plug from the dock into the phone, it goes into car mode right away, even without it being plugged into a power source. This can be deactivated by going into notifications and clicking Deactivate Car mode.
All in all, I’d have to say I’m pretty pleased with it. Not really pleased about how much it costs, but hey…It would have been nice for them to include an audio cable with the package. I bought this to replace my older Garmin Nav. Figure it’s much easier having this than traveling with the Garmin.
Update: Looks like this is going back. The line-out doesn't work. Getting no sound

does anyone else find it interesting that all of these same accessories cost $29.95 with the Vibrant and now cost $44.95 with the SGSII?
Thinking of picking this up:

Seems like a decent quality holder that will work no matter any case I use.

Nope. Makes sense, T-Mobile just released the phone so they hiked up all prices on "new" accessories. It's all naming/branding my man.
Looks nice...if u get it post some pics please.

It is cheaper on Amazon. I am searching for a few other universals and I will make a decision in a day or two.
Was feeling frisky so picked it up at the store with the phone. Works great but the phone is held rather tightly and requires two hands to remove it when getting out of your car. Might loosen a bit over time, but a PITA for now. Phone also recognizes that this is a car dock (as opposed to desktop dock) and kicks on the VoiceTalk app automatically. Kind of nice.
-- edit --
Used a universal on my last phone... have to say that having the charger plug into the mount directly is hands-down worth the extra money. I hated having to find the dangling end of the usb cord every time I got in my truck... especially in the dark. With the made-for-it mount, you sit the phone in the mount and then slide the bottom part up which engages the charge and locks in the phone. All with one hand.

Have one and the best part about this mount is that it sticks to almost part in my car. Aside from the really curved parts.
Bought my first car dock for my old Vibrant few months ago, now have to get it again for my new SGS2. Like before I am getting OEM directly from Samsung website. Not sure what TM sells but the one I saw in their store looks pretty crappy from some 3rd party vendor.

The car dock... excuse me, "vehicle navigation mount" I got at the t-mo store two days ago is a Samsung-branded accessory. Guy had to actually open the box that UPS delivered that morning. Perhaps your store didn't have them yet?
Good for you! I guess the TM store I had a pleasure to visit had different model on display. Looked really ugly comparing to oem model.

What do you think of these Herbert Richter German made windshield mount? The mount is used in a Pioneer AVIC-F500BT GPS which is quite heavy.

Probably not as it is made to fit the device snugly. This is why I use a pouch belt clip as I use my phone all the time for navigation and can't be taking a case on and off every time.

Bummer. I need one that works with cases and has a longer arm to position the unit closer to the dash from the deeply set window. I really liked my previous one that I got from Amazon, but the bearing wore out or something and it won't stay in any position other than limply hanging down now...
Thanks for the review!

Arm Band

Has anyone came across any armbands for GN?
Will SGS2 ones fit our phones?
I tried a Belkin SII armband, didn't fit at all. Too short and struggled to take it out... Will keep looking.
I found this site - http://www.iarmbands.com/Arm-Band-Armband-for-Google-Galaxy-Nexus-CAB-nexus.htm
But sort of looks a little dodge
& there is also this one - http://docteur-gsm.com/en/samsung-galaxy-nexus/9461-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-armband.html
I'm also interested in this. Saw a few on ebay.com and Amazon, but I am always a bit wary to buy from these sellers, especially when they claim a GN fit but have an iPhone or the like in the stock image.
I am interested in this as well.

I am looking too...
A problem I see with most Armbands is the position of the headphonejack which is on the bottom on the Galaxy Nexus.
Fitting wise when I checked dimensions of different phones the Desire HD armbands should fit.
Desire HD = 68mm height
Galaxy Nexus = 67.94
So I'm gonna try the Desire HD one from igadgitz.com
It also has the jack on the bottom...

I just put an order in for this armband. It's on sale for $14 with free shipping. I will report my findings once it arrives.
yes plz do!!
I have been speaking with someone at Tune Belt about their products for the GN and I got this response today:
Hi Adam,
I just got back from the Verizon store and this phone fit into AB84 pretty nicely. The AB84 has to stretch a bit to fit the length of the Nexus. There's a bit of extra depth even with AB84 but it is not too bad. AB85 is way too big.
Best regards,
Richard

So I think I will be buying one here shortly and I will let you know my experience. For reference, here is the product link: http://www.tunebelt.com/ab84
nice, thanks for the info!
Might have to try the TuneBelt product...
I got the same reply from Tunebelt, AB84. Said it's at the limits in length, but the headphone jack lines up nicely.
I have a suggested mod for any of the tunebelt products. The attached pics are from their waistband, but will easily work with the others as well. I don't trust velcro, and because the GN is slightly larger than other phones...even more so. I've used this belt for my OG Droid as well as my HTC Thunderbolt, but ain't takin' chances on this gorgeous new phone.
For $2 at Walmart, you can grab a kit of (I think 8) snap buttons. Very easy to install. You can do it right through the velcro, or use a sharp blade and shave the velcro patches right off/out (less to push through). Line up your rivets, etc on each side of the material and just tap with a hammer on a hard surface. Easy peasy.
LOVE it and don't have to worry about velcro coming undone and my phone flying down the street

I have the tunebelt from my Droid X and it fits, but the problem with almost all of these armbands is that the plastic cover never sits flush on the screen. Thus, the issue is that changing tracks or checking the phone is just all the more difficult while running, etc. Belkin made a great armband for the iPhone 3 (sister's) that sits very flush to the screen. I wish they had a SGN version.
Anyway, keeps us posted on iarmbands product. Would love to hear specifically how the clear plastic skin sits against the SGN screen. Thx.
Recently went to best buy and was looking for arm band case and found this:
[I am not allowed to post the link until I have 8 posts according to forum rules, but if you go to bestbuy.c*m and search for "Rocketfish arm band android" It will locate the product for you]
Although a 'generic' case, it actually fits the Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) pretty well (nice and snug) and the headphone jack lines up with the cutout. I also found it relatively easy to navigate the screen while in the case.
Just though this might help anyone looking for arm band case.

As you know the car dock also use the pogo pins, so maybe that also true for that dock, and again the OTA stopped from what I understand till the fix for signal issue in sleep mode.
*I don't know what about the HDMI dock, as it's use MHL fuctionality, but work only for video , better buy MHL adapter.

No pogo charging, but I've got two and they are by far the best dock I've used so far. Also cheaper than dirt.
Arkon's Mobile grip is a good choice for the GNEX, they have a variety of mount bases (dash, windshield, lighter socket, cupholder, etc) and they're reasonably priced.

Magnet Mount
Magnet mount. I can't post an outside link but search for magnet mount at harbor freight to see it.
$4.99 at Harbor Freight. Small, Unobtrusive and works great. You can even put the little metal phone piece in between the phone and a case.
I hate those bulky plastic things.
I got the one from Verizon store and love it! Its perfect, fit and design. It don't vibrate when driving like all the ones I had in the past.

I'll try and get a video today. It's pretty sturdy so I don't think it'll be an issue even in my rough riding off road vehicle, but we'll see. I had concerns before I ordered it, but I figured for around $10, it was worth a shot.

How's the build quality? I bought a random car mount from a chinese website, after 2 weeks of usage, the suction cup broke off the car mount.
Very pleased with it. I bought two versions; the "short" one and the "long" one. If you poke around the sellers store you'll see. The short one is better IMHO. The long one can jiggle just a little do to the way the arm adjusts. The short one is pretty solid. Suction cup part is beefy and not going anywhere. I did break the little tab off the top/side you are supposed to push to help get the phone out, but that's because I was being unreasonable on how hard I was pushing it. I tried shaving the crap out of the holder to make it fit the extended battery, then shoe-horned it in there. Then it was stuck LOL. I broke the tab getting it out, but it's still very usable, and I was pushing too hard.

i have an arkon mount now, it's just a little too small for the gnex in a case, but it fits. it's a PITA to get in and out of the mount, but, i will say that the suction cup and mount itself are excellent quality and work great. i have had this mount for about a year and it has fit 3 different devices now, been through a few harsh seasons and i have never had it fall off. the arkon mounts are very much worth it. i think i paid $14 for my mount.
i have the diztronic case and arkon flat mount and it is snug but works great. a pogo pin mod for this setup would be awesome. please share if you get it done!

So, I dusted off my Infuse 4G Car Dock and voila! The S3 fits! Height is perfect but the S3 is a tad narrower than the Infuse so some very minor side to side alignment prior to sliding the connector in is required. Other than that it fits like it was made for it! Enjoy!

Great find ookba and thanks. Is that the exact dock u linked to with the charging slider too,?
Also, does this come with the wiring harness?
I'm guessing that being slightly narrower might mean the phone might dock with a thin case on? Ie case mate barely there, incipio feather case etc.

Just to be 100% clear, we're talking about THIS car mount, right?
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-INFUS...8949&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+infuse+car+mount
I was JUST about to order it until I realized.... I already have the OEM Samsung one for the D710, here are the dimensions to compare:
i997 - 132 x 71 x 9 mm
D710 - 130 x 70 x 10 mm
The D710 car dock doesn't output audio for my SGSII Skyrocket, but that's okay because I have Bluetooth audio streaming in the car now if it doesn't.... going to keep the mount ready to install when I finally get my SGSIII in hand to test it and will report back with the findings! Wouldn't that be awesome if I didn't have to buy another car dock.....
EDIT - I also just realized you said the SIII is a tad narrower than the Infuse, so this being 2mm narrower might be a better fit!
MAJOR EDIT - I just received the SIII today, and while driving home with it, I tried it out on the D710 dock - it works just the same as the Infuse dock, so if you can't find the one for the Infuse, buy the Sprint Epic Touch 4G (Galaxy SII, D710) dock here:

EDIT - I also just realized you said the SIII is a tad narrower than the Infuse, so this being 2mm narrower might be a better fit!

Yea the SGH-i997 is the one I tested this with. Works like a charm. Outputs audio, etc. Does not come with any harnesses. The one you see is something I wired up. The dock has audio output and microUSB charge input.

I can also confirm that this works. Snapped right in, S3 went into dock mode and everything works great. Also as someone else mentioned in the other thread I used velcro and attached it to my Proclip vehicle mount.
Anyone looking to buy this ,
i am planning to buy it from here

Get the funk out, I just sold one of my Infuse car docks cuz I figured it wouldn't work.
And I used it all the time on my Skyrocket.
But you're right! It snaps right in there! Good thing I had another dock.

I've been using the Infuse car dock with my Skyrocket for about seven months.
It's a GREAT dock. Only twice has the suction cup lost grip and fallen off my windshield.
Stoked that I can use it with my SIII also now! :good:

Here are some more videos of the dock. This is me using it as a DESKTOP dock with my Skyrocket:

i wish we could use that with a case on...
i've been searching like crazy for something that will fit the phone with a case on...
no luck so far...
These are the only ones I've ever found/used with a case

My SIII sitting in my OEM Samsung Infuse dock.
Audio out through the 3.5mm audio jack integrated into the dock works beautiful.
Turn my car off, then back on and the music starts playing again right away.
Wish I could say the same for bluetooth.
USB *might* sound better than bluetooth too, btw.
That thingy on the top is my bluetooth microphone.
CZ - how much 'wiggle' would you say that it has when you are plugging it in as OP mentioned? Any danger of scratching the bottom as you try to get the USB in? Something that might be cured by a little electrical tape on the insides of the dock, or a very thin case?
great info.
I can confirm it too. I had an old Samsung Infuse car mount in my drawer, just took it out and tried it. It fit really perfectly, so surprised. I just cancelled order for new one. It was tested on road. Perfect. Saving a lot money and making me smile a lot. It made my day.

Absolutely no wiggle at all. The phone kind of clicks into place in the dock, even without the USB plugged in.
It does take two hands to put it in and remove it. It's that tight. But not TOO tight.
I haven't had any issues with the USB plug. Seems to be about perfectly aligned to me? But then I do have a body wrap on my phone.
No case will work on this though. It's too tight for that. Not that I've tried, but I really doubt any case will fit.
Fantastic - I'll get my order in
Just got my mount today.
All4cellular shipped really quick.
Thanks to op for the tip the mount fits great with my s3 , with Nfc tag attached it's perfect !!!!
as a bonus this mount also works with my galaxy nexus . This the best 17$ I have spent

Need recommendations for Keyboard/Case combo for Note 10.1 (2012 Ed)?

I've spent the whole day researching on which keyboard/case to buy and to my conclusion, there's none that's exceptional in the market.
-Samsung's standalone keyboard has awesome reviews but it sucks that it's not embedded in a case.
-Belkin's version has horrible reviews on it
-The ones on amazon and eBay have issues with magnets interfering with S-Pen capabilities.
-The aluminum one also has horrible reviews
Not sure where to turn to, I'm a college student (pre-med) and I just got the Note recently because i love the multi-window function as it'll allow me to type the lecture/draw diagrams(anatomy etc.)
Does anyone here have any experience with a keyboard/case combo?
Thank you
There's a $99 bt model I've had my eye on for awhile. I want to say its a case logix or logitech. What makes it so great in my mind is the 4 corners are velcor attached (very strong velcro), plus 2 different types (tab thickness) for the corner pieces. I saw it at microcenter.

Tips for a pleasant XDA:
Search before asking. Someone has likely already asked.
Spell your words completely, and use punctuation. It confuses people when you use "u" and "ur" and "dat", or when you wrongly use "there/their/they're/your/you're".
Be nice. Don't be rude, just move on to another post without leaving a comment. We are not 7 years old.
And PLEASE, do not ask for the "best" anything. We all have our preferences.
I agree, it's hard to find one that's worth anything. I managed to find one where I am now. It's OK and pairs using Bluetooth. You sometimes have to go back and tap a letter a second time, which for a college student, might not be the best thing. I have Swype on my tablet and it works just as well as a keyboard. That's what I use when I'm at work. Whatever you get, make sore you look at what holds it closed and go for Velcro. The one I bought had magnets and they were strong enough to distort my screen when I was using writing apps (S-Note, Papyrus, etc.).
My solution to this was just to use an apple bt keyboard with my samsung note. I have limited desk space in class and it really helps to be able to keep my keyboard in my lap. I just discovered this case while trying to figure out a way to carry my note and my bluetooth keyboard easily. Its designed for ipads and it was a bit of a squeeze but my tablet is nice and snug now and the s-pen is not blocked

Do you have a model name and/or supplier you can mention?
Thanks.

Here are three models I am considering, two on eBay/dx and one at "TVC-Mall". Since I am a new user, I can't post links to them or pictures, but here's enough info to find them, I hope:
1) "Seenda"
On ebay - seller named globalsucceed01
Also on DX.
DX has it in several colors. It says it uses magnets, which some people have commented can be a problem. Cost is close to $30.
It says the keyboard is removable.
2) at TVC-Mall :"Ultra Thin Bluetooth Keyboard Leather Stand Case For Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1"
Never bought from TVC-Mall, but web reviews are mostly good - they take PayPal, which provides some measure of protection. This one looks pretty sleek. Shipping is a mite expensive - brings total cost to about $31.
3) "Generic"
A seller named "wfei_shop" has it listed as "Bluetooth Wireless Case Keyboard Cover For Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 N8000 N8010"
This one has flap in front that looks like it might get in the way. On the other hand, it looks like the keyboard is removable. I've seen this in several colors, too. Cheaper - only $23
Anyone ever tried any of these? Anything to watch out for? Any opinions on any of them (from experience or reviewing the listings)?
Thanks!
