[CWM][6.0.0.1] Touch Recovery for TF300T [no download - fix needed] - Transformer TF300T Android Development

Hi everyone!
HOW TO FLASH?
Click to collapse
Requirements:
TF300T
Fastboot (Included in Android SDK, or Google for a recent version. SDK is the best way to go.)
Unlocked bootloader (look on Asus Support Download)
Step-by-step guide
Unlock your bootloader with Asus Unlock app
Connect your tablet to your computer
Shutdown your tablet
Hold Power + Vol Down until a message appears ("Press Vol. Up to enter RCK (5s)") : DON'T PRESS VOL UP
After 5 seconds, a new menu appears. Press Vol Down once to change to the USB icon, then press Vol. Up to validate (you have to do this in less than 10 seconds, otherwise your tablet will boot Android OS)
At this point, your computer should recognize Fastboot device (Windows will notify you here, OSX/Linux stays calm)
Flash recovery image with fastboot: fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery recovery.img (if we suppose recovery.img is in your current directory)
Once the operation is done, type fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot to reboot your tablet
You now have CWM installed. To access it, shutdown your tablet and press Power + Vol Down, then press Vol Up before the 5s timeout. After a few seconds, you'll be in CWM interface.
DO NOT FLASH THE RECOVERY FROM ROM MANAGER. IT IS THE ONE FROM TF201 AND WILL BRICK YOUR TABLET.
You're warned.

FAQ
Click to collapse
- Can I backup/restore at anytime?
Yes, you can use all CWM features without any restriction.
- Can it break something?
Even in case of error during fastboot, only your recovery partition will be broken. You can reflash it as many times as you want via fastboot, and even with a broken recovery partition you can still successfully boot your tablet.
- Does it work with any firmware?
Yes.
- I wiped everything but didn't put a ROM on my sdcard, what to do?!
Calm down, you're not bricked, you're just a bit dumb. Go in "Install zip from sdcard" until you reach list files, so the sdcard is mounted. Then, open a command prompt, and do "adb push c:\path\to\the\rom.zip /sdcard/". Wait, and once done your rom.zip will appear in the files list when you go back and forth in files list.

My attemp to get touch recovery is not stopped, but:
1) I'm on vacation right now so I'm devoting little time
2) is not easy to work on a closed-source recovery

my mistake, enjoy ur vacation

Flash it from ClockworkMod recovery
Use this guide to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19465384&posted=1#
Install RomManager from the market then flash ClockworkMod recovery from there and flash the .zip from there
Or just wait for it to come OTA

screenshots showing update size
from all accounts so far, the update has only really made changes to the kernel. so the update would only be small.
I'm stock so I just applied it and it seems fine. No obvious changes. I tried a USB game controller and it still didn't work so I think its just the volume bug fix (although there are alot of patch files in the zip).
I don't know how to apply it manually I'm afraid now we don't have the /sdcard partition accessible via USB mass storage. Could try renaming to update.zip, putting in the root of MTP storage, booting into recovery (hold vol down and power) and see if it can be applied?

Yeah you loose root, but that guide didn't take five minutes to get back root again, when you flash it from cwmr there is a lot of updates going on

default.prop was pulled from the recovery ramdisk of the JB OTA, and it has ro.product.device=EeePad.
I have got backup and restore working and it looks like CWM is doing a low level format so it's gonna take a very long time to to complete. not sure if I can do anything about that.
updated default.prop canged:

I have tried for several hours to write the CWM-Touch.blob to /staging while in recovery with dd
it always results in recovery not working, if I write the same file to staging in the same way from
the Android OS it works fine.
I think if you try to install a recovery or kernel with this recovery you will be ****ed.
does this give me root access on the tf300t and give me the ability to create a recovery method?
I am soooo new at this so please be kind
I have the tf300t with jellybean and I really want root access.

Yes. You can root if you are unlocked which i hope you do have.
After getting the CWM,flash the attached file from recovery to get root.
Reboot and install Super Su from Playstore and open it.
It will ask for updating binaries. Update.

Ok.. so I am not unlocked.. which means my bootloader is locked.
So the process, for me, should be
1..... download the unlock tool from asus.
2..... install/run the unlock tool that was downloaded
3..... follow the instructions in this thread to get rooted and create a valid recovery..
Is the above correct?
TIA

Unlocked Bootloader for 10.3

Will there eventually be an app for unlocking the bootloader on the 10.3 firmware? I don't have the factory cable and it sounds like a lot of people have bricked their device doing the downgrade to 10.2.
I hope so. I am not gonna even try it... Lol instead rooted it and used Kindlefree app to install Nova and used titanium backup. So it's "like" Android but not quite lol....

I can confirm that the utilities still work fine with the latest version of the kindle software, so you shouldn't even need to downgrade.

But if I downgrade my bootloader I won't have to use the whole 2nd bootloader method and all that right? Won't I then just be able to use some utility to flash TWRP and then flash a ROM? This Kindle thing is probably a little more intimidating than anything else I've messed with. I have mine rooted and a bunch of other hacks but I want pure Android on. I don't want a brick though..

What about all that craziness I have been reading about locking up the bootloader due to the 10.3.1 bootloader? I can just forget about that and install that apk file and THEN I would be able to flash a ROM via TWRP? I thought that the thread said that this tool said it was for the old bootloader. This is great news! Can you confirm this? Are we on the same page?

So, it looks like I have screwed something up. This figures as my luck is terrible with this freegin Kindle. So I got TWRP recovery working fine. I DL Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Gapps accordingly. Went into TWRP of course made a backup, then went to flash. I wiped EVERYTHING and went to flash the ROM. I received the error <Could Not Open .zip> So now I have nothing on file except a bad .zip. I did re-download the ROM assuming it was bad and restored my TWRP backup. Now I am stuck in what appears to be a Kindle Bootloop. The Kindle Fire (Orange) logo comes up, a few seconds later it blinks back off again and recycles. Now what? I can't get the Kindle to boot so I can put the .zip back on the machine. I am STUCK. This sucks... :crying:

I did the exact same thing when i got my kindle back in January. (Yeah, i had to order my cable right after that )
For some reason I've never been able to restore a stock TWRP backup on the kf2. It always borks the bootloader.
I know there is a special requirement that our bootloader uses a file called stack on the system partition- that's why you can't get into recovery now (when you wiped the system it wiped the stack file which let's us run the second bootloader.)
Anyway, Once you have the fastboot cable its really easy to get things going again. Pm me if you need a hand.. I've been through this myself a few times lol.
If you ever end up in the same situation again where you wiped the system and the zip is bad... Stay in twrp and use "adb sideload" to push a good zip from pc.

I actually tried the side load through TWRP. When I typed "adb devices" it showed my device in host mode and the file wouldn't transfer although TWRP was in adb sideload mode. But then I just thought "oh well guess I'll restore my backup" lol. Yeah that didn't work out..
Sent you a P. M. BTW. thanks again!

Thanks for the info guys. I'm glad I didn't have to change the firmware. The whole process was super easy and now I'm running jb 4.2. For those reading, just root->install one touch apk->make backup in twrp->factory reset->flash rom and gapps->success!

**As a special note however DO NOT restore your factory backup if you have trouble. You will end up like me. Bootlooping with a fast boot cable in the mail.** if I could go back in time I would've downloaded the files via a hard line rather than slow wifi and maybe even double downloaded.. Oh well. This is a learning opportunity.

Need some help please

today i downloaded from goo a CM rom and gapps. flashed them in the right order, made a backup and installed with twrp like ive done 100 times. this time was different though because after booting up instead of it asking me to pick a language and enter my gmail account, i was getting errors about setup and gapps. i figuered oh well and booted into bootloader to load my backup but upon doing so it wouldnt let me chose any other option but to choose "start". i couldnt get into recovery. can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks

Edit: misread the whole thing.
Vol down + power is indeed Odin mode, not recovery mode. FYI, OP, you should really read efrant's android on the gnex 101 (its stickied on General sub forum)
