Proper way to put phone in and out of car dock? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is there a video showing this? I have the gsm with original battery and there are marks on the car dock where the volume buttons are pushing against it when inserting. In going to break something eventually .
I have been putting pogo side first then snap in other.
When removing over just push from back and the top half comes out soil at once then I pull the rest out.
Thanks!

What you describe is pretty much what I do, I've not looked for vids.

Thanks for the video. I guess I do it the same way. It still bothers me that marks are showing up on the volume side of the dock. Hopefully the next nexus will be out before this causes real damage to the phone lol.
I really liked the dock on my galaxy s2 (e4gt) better. Or my nexus one, but oh well. It still looks really nice when it's mounted.

No it doesn't. There are no options available for the app to even allow this. Perhaps there is an app out there that allows you to open up a certain app when it's plugged in, just like how there is one to turn off wifi and such.

The best desk clock/alarm app I have found is Kaloer Clock: http://www.kaloer.com/kaloer-clock
Not only it looks better (IMO) than the Samsung desk app, but it is simpler and it can come on automatically when connected to power. Moreover, you can set it so it comes on automatically when powered only during certain hours.
And it's free
good find, I'm gonna try this bad boy out.

[Q] Bent the pins in the battery slot- Need replacements

I bent one of the pins for the battery connection inside my phone. I use my phone a lot and keep 2 spares at all times. I tried bending it back into place, which sort of works, but my phone constantly loses power because it doesnt align perfectly.
Is there a module I can swap out, and if so, a link to it. I can do a bit of soldering if absolutely required, but I'm hoping this is a plug and play part.
I see no one has replied lol, ill have to look into it but from experience I would have to say its part of the main board and is not plug n play. If you could even find the replacement part for it I am sure the soldiering portion of it would be the most difficult.

Time to get an iPhone...

I'm so sick of this phone. I'm on my 8th one and they have all had the same problem. I'll be playing some angry birds (or any other game, cause that's all this phone is for), and my screen goes blank. I have tracked it down to the button on the top right hand side. It seems that a side effect to hitting this button is it kills the screen. It's like it turns the lights of it something. I know I can't be the only one with this problem, and I just ordered my 9th phone (hoping this on doesn't have the problem). If this one does it, off to the iPhone I go. Anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it? I have found the only way to get the screen you come back on, I'd to pull the battery and put it back in. Thanks for any input, and please don't troll me.

There is a mod you can do to fix it. In the middle of a reflash unplug the phone and rip out the battery. You'll never have problems with that button again.
Also, it turns the phone into a great paperweight.
Good luck!

LED Modification (Epic 4g Touch)

Wanted to show you guys a mod I just finished on my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36994299&postcount=242
I will post instructions for anyone that wants to know how to do it. I just need a better camera to take the pictures with.
This is pretty convenient for females that use larger purses to store their phones as well as for leaving it laying about in a dark room. I always end up searching for my phone in the dark on or around my bed. It keeps me from having to get up to turn on a light. It also works even when the phone is turned off. I have not seen any extra drain on the battery either.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE
Parts list.
2 wires of any color from a USB cable about 6 inches in length. You will not use all of the length but it helps to have more than needed and to cut them to fit right. You will need them to be thin. I used black (Negative) and white (Positive).
100ohm resistor. Will take a touch of brightness away but the mod works like a charm.
3.5 mm LED
Wire cutters
Dremel tool
Electrical tape.
You will need to cut the hook for the strap and dremel it down. This is where the LED will sit. put electrical tape in place. THIS IS IMPORTANT. This area will have exposed aluminum.
Also, as seen in the second photo, you will need to cut the small section out to allow for the wires to fit properly.
Pic 3 shows where I soldered my wires for power. looks horrible, but the flux is not all that great. Your positive lead is on the right and the negative is on the left as shown in the picture. Nothing is soldered to the middle lead.
In the 4th picture you see the resistor. That is the only place I could fit the resistor because I did not have any SMD caps that I could use. It will be places in the little crevice under the vibration motor.
You will want to run the wires under the SD cradle to make sure they fit well.
I cannot say exactly where to put the 3.5 mm hole in the battery cover as each will be slightly different. I got lucky with my placement.
Surprised no one has said anything to this yet.
Looks really cool and interesting. I might take you up on this depending on the difficulty and amount of time I have!!
Hopefully you can find a better camera to take pictures with.

Not this LED. I would either need a tri-LED or a dual and a pin-out of the entire mobo as well as a reason to have it change colors. The wiring needed and extra components would probably not fit though...

Can't wait! I think the tri-color LED thing could pretty sweet. As long as you have the white LED light, then the other colors are just for convenience
Ran into a little problem... Apparently 3.7 volts is too much for the led to handle for more than a few days. So I am calling in some help with this. I broke my voltmeter so I can't test for what resistors/diodes I need to keep the current down and keep the LED on. I need it to be at 3.3v for the LED. My best bet is to use a SMD as it is small and will fit perfectly within the phone. Does anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Fixed it. I ended up going through resistors with trial and error. Ultimately came to a 1 OHM resistor. Had to completely rework the wires in the unit. I had to sacrifice just a tiny bit of brightness but it is still very effective. Also, it does not put off the heat like it did without the resistor. I am very confident that this LED will last. I will be posting pictures tonight. And a simple walk through and parts list.
Interested in them pictures lol.
That's a pretty neat mod. Did you wire it so the LED is on constantly, or is it tied to the front notification LED?
Also according to a LED calculator I found here, you only need about a 22ohm 1/8W resistor for a LED with a forward current of 20ma (most 3&5mm led bulbs.) Since you used a 100ohm resistor, that would explain your loss in brightness.

It is wired to stay on constantly even if the phone is powered off. As long as the battery is inserted and has some juice, it will be lit. I am not sure if I have a 22ohm resistor. The loss of brightness is not too bad. Like I said, it is still very effective.
EDIT: I actually used a 1ohm resistor if I remember correctly. I don't know why I put 100. I will fix that. The calculator is telling me that is what I needed to use anyways. I will double check when I have my phone apart again and am taking pictures for the tutorial.
Sorry guys. I will do the pics and tutorial tomorrow. Spending time with my girlfriend and our son tonight. She rules the the coop when she is home.

I don't think that will be possible. The only time my phone heats up like that is when I have it charging.

[Q] How would you improve the HTC One?

This is honestly the first phone I've ever had that I felt was essentially perfect for me. While the camera could be a bit better, I frankly can't find fault with anything else. It's smooth as silk, the battery is as good as can be expected of a phone of this size and depth, and the screen is flawless. The build quality is superb.
While I really sweated losing unlimited upon upgrading from this phone, I can honestly say that I will be able to use this for 3+ years. Unlocked, I feel like I have a Nexus phone with Apple level build quality. Best of both worlds.
Thoughts? Am I alone in thinking this?
I guess I will say what everyone will say sd card slot.
I would like to see like apple has it. Being able to play all audio through usb. That's the only thing I miss from my iPod touch.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 4
Only thing I wish it had is an external SDCard. If it had that it would be PERFECT in my opinion.
Laser turrets
But seriously, the phone does what I need it to do and fast. An external SD card would be nice but I don't really miss having one. I hardly keep anything on the phone anymore, everything is in the cloud.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
I go through a lot of phones. Since the original Motorola Droid came out a few years ago it has been 13 different phones (all different styles). Actually if you go back to my Blackberry days it is quite a bit more. This is by far my favorite phone. When I shipped it off to get s-off I used an Galaxy S4 and hated it. Funny cause I had the S3 and Note 2 before and was ok with them. Guess I am just spoiled by this one...
If I had to choose anything it would probably be sd card slot and maybe just a bump in image size from the camera. I am not complaining about the picture quality at all and do not want some 16MP + image...just a tad more.
Power button on side like htc one maxx
The only thing I really wish it had were the headphone jack on the bottom.
It never was an issue until I went from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5, which Apple moved the headphone jack to the bottom on the 5.
Now I wish every phone had the headphone jack on the bottom. I find it to be a much better location.
Sent from my HTC One.
power button relocation, extSD slot, larger battery, make the HTC area an actual button
Move USB jack to the side.
Briing back\ the FM radio app/
Standard 3 hardware keys (or better yet, hardware keys and extend the screen down), volume buttons on other side, power button on the side, and external sd card. Other than that, I don't care. Even then, the sd card is the only one I legitimately have a hard time with, and that's still not enough to turn me away from this beauty.

You could probably map it to anywhere you wanted. However, it requires a custom kernel to which we do not have source. Also its not an actual button, but rather where the digitizer of the screen comes down too far and is accessible from the top of the logo (almost on the screen, often accidentally interacting with the screen instead of assigned action).

Less bezel and more screen with the traditional 3 on screen buttons. A camera better than what's on the iPhone 5s. Larger battery. Micro sd slot but keep unibody design.

Well, as much as I like the phone there's a few things I'd change about it.
First things first, I'd want to have a RED one on verizon... The unibody is nice, but not being able to simply swap the plastics, like is doable on many samsungs, is a bit saddening for me. I did get a blue one, but the red one is drop dead secksay.
Removable battery... While the battery is great, most people haven't ever put the stress to the batteries like I have. I had an HTC HD7s where the stock battery was dead in less than a year from the many charge cycles I went through. It was to the point where an hour of standby would kill it. I'm hoping this battery doesn't kick it that quick, but I'm sure it will eventually and is the reason I pay for the insurance.
3.5mm on the bottom would be very nice. Makes listening to audio while using the phone in portrait mode much easier without fighting the cord.
Last but not least, a method to tear it down. I have taken every phone I've owned apart for cleanings once a month. My OCD is absolutely raging right now as I should have cleaned this thing inside and out a week ago.
But the other changes I'd like have been stated... SD slot, software buttons with a bigger screen, etc...
All around though, it's the best "stock" phone I've had. Every phone has it's issues to each person. This one just has less of a list for me. Just irritates me that I can't clean it inside... bleh
