It's as simple as they did better than people were expecting. They're still highly leveraged which is risky, but their improved cash flow suggests some margin of safety business-wise. Also, they've done very well so far in improving customer service and expanding their network. That wasn't a bad day for myself either...

I wish network Vision would come to the nyc area sooner.

Sell! Sell! Sell! lol. Only in these fabulous economic times can a company post losses for a couple straight years and then as soon as they post losses that aren't as bad as predicted, they become a company that people want to invest their money in. Wasn't too long ago bankruptcy was rumored to be an option. lol. Hopefully, it keeps up, they can use it to help secure loans for NV.

Once S hits the $5.00 mark as long as it continues to show signs of a turnaround it should increase in price quickly.

As long time Sprint customer I will agree that their customer no-service has changed to customer service. They have done a lot of improvements to right that ship, not to mention some of their plans are very nice, unlimited data... what other carrier has that now (unless grandfathered in)

Glad others feel this way and not just me. I bought it awhile ago when I knew they were getting the iphone, NV was rolling out, and LTE would be out soon. Took a couple dips on me, but it's doing well now! This was the first stock I've ever bought too.....figured I'd buy something I at least knew a lot about. What are other's opinions of a relative short term high point? In my head 6 months ago I thought $5 would be my sell point but I've read recently that that is the point it's ok for fund managers to buy so it will probably go up more from there. Just wondering what other people thought.

I think the new iPhone will give them another boost as people figure out that Sprint LTE is real and they can get unlimited fast data on Sprint.

I pray people don't figure this out. Sprint's data speeds TANKED when the iPhone hit, and you can be assured that an LTE capable iPhone will do the exact same thing...fricking hipsters.

14 Day Return Policy

Just thought I would give everybody a heads up that as of Friday, 09/16/2011, Sprint is switching to a 14-day return policy. I have a feeling a lot of Sales Reps will be uneducated about this.

that likely has a little to do with it....but....
(lifted from the thread linked above)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's about damn time.
Am I happy about this? Not at all. But this was going to happen eventually. Sprint is bleeding money without compare. As long as they continue to offer decent coverage, great prices and fantastic customer service I'm all for it. They need to stay competitive. Not to us, they are already very competitive to us...they need to stay competitive to investors or risk a takeover most likely coming from Verizon.
***** and complain all you want, where you gunna go? T-Mobile? Unlikely. That whole law-suit from the DOJ is nothing but a dog-n-pony show.
Sprint has to offer unlimited service, the same fantastic rates, unparalleled customer service while at the same time improving it's network infrastructure all around in order to stand a chance...they know it and it's about time they started acting like it.
....with a strategic partnership with Google they could change the entire game by ditching the voice-n-text strategy and being the first to embrace the "everything is data" paradigm. It's coming. "voice service" all by itself is so, well, last century. We all know it's already digital, why convert back twice and charge us for something we can now do on our own?
...that's just my take...
Honestly, as long as they keep unlimited data without throttling, I am okay.

Inspired... and I hope you're right! There seems to be no point in sticking with the current voice service with it's inferior quality when we can easily switch to all VoIP.

Sorry to go off topic, but i kept seeing people mention your signature, but since i was on the XDA app on my phone, I couldn't see it. You have been thanked for that signature... wow!
So I got my Epic 4G Touch Tuesday. Does that mean I have a 30 day return or is it device specific.
Agreed. This is Sprint stepping up to protect is business. They are better in so many levels that this shouldn't be an issue unless you don't know what you want and go through two or three phones your first month.

I haven't noticed that. I still manage to have to interact with them far more than the average user (as the XDA types seem to). A few times in the past month and I can't even say that I noticed anything.
Sure, when I called to cancel a line ETF free I got one lady who gave me a minor hassle, but, I called back and got a guy who was friendly and helpful.
That's the worst 30 seconds (and only 'bad' I have dealt with, by far) of dealing with Sprint's customer service I have had in the past 6 years of service...and it wasn't even that bad bordering on understandable.
As usual YMMV.

Laws vary by state, and most are nullified if the seller has their own policy posted in the store in a conspicuous location.
Just talked to a Sprint store manager (Southern California) and she has not heard any mention of the changes so hopefully tomorrow when I open a new account I'll hold her accountable for it.

Then my peer there is dumb, it is all over the Playbook and all the AMs are telling their managers and staff about it. It is huge news. Perhaps they just had Wednesday off (like I did) and didn't get a chance to read the Playbook quite yet. I know the only reason I found out about it ahead of time was from tweets last night about the subject.

Put The Pressure On Sprint Don't Settle

Ok spoke to sprint for 2 hrs today about LOS.... "Recorded all calls"
Hung up on 4 times while i was on hold while they research issue
Told to sell phone back to sprint "oh yea...Uh no!"
I am not giving you 2 months of credit "yes you are"
Account Services: Nothing i can do we don't issue credits "don't lie to me"
17 mintues in call "account services" says: I can give you $36 "i don't think so"
Call Samsung since they made the phone "nope try again"
We have nothing to do with the device "The name of the store was Sprint"
Im not going to loose my job over you "understandable but i really don't care"
Take it to the store "why if they all are defective"
Im not going to do this that or the other and etc....... "manager please and not someone who just takes escalations.
RESULTS "Time to get tough"
I want out of my contract do to local lemon laws and horrible
treatment from customer service.
Manager understood after i broke it down technically to him about the phone issues and asked what do you want "I've already told you!!"
Contract terminated "released from contract" Still have phone and service of course.
"not fixed in a month will call for credits" <----You have to play hard ball with Sprint...Calling 100 times is easier than checking your phone for LOS every few minutes
Mission Statement:
PUT THE PRESSURE ON SPRINT GUYS..DO NOT LET THEM RIP YOU OFF! IF YOU HAVE LOS ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE..I WAS PREPARED TO CALL 100 TIMES. HOW FAR ARE YOU READY TO GO????? do not speak to anyone but account services

Samsprint's been "working" on gingerbread for Epic 4G for months now. I believe if it's cost efficient in Sprint's favor to simply fix the problem, it's better of we annoy them to an extent.
Funny, I thought Sprint was the carrier and Samsung was the Manufacturer.
My mistake.
Carriers don't make updates/fixes they just test/approve them and release them.
Put the pressure on Samsung. That will get results, hopefully.

Your phone is under warranty through sprint for the first yr. You go through sprint before you contact the manufacturer. Sprint cannot afford to take escalations for every LOS. As well as the credits issued and contracts cancelled for something they sold and provide service for. Therefore they will demand Samsung to fix the issue. Or if Samsung has fixed the issue, they will demand quality to release a patch "yesterday". Worst case scenario if Sprint cannot resolve customers mass number of complaints they will recall the phone, issue refunds, or do exchanges.

newalker91 said:
Uh no, no it is not. Your phone is under (pause for keyword here...) "MANUFACTURER'S" warranty for one year. Manufacturer in this case is Samsung, aka the party responsible for FIXING this issue. The reason people go through Sprint before they go to Samsung for their warranty is because they have too high of a sense of self-entitlement and/or are too arrogant to read their user manual which clearly states a contact number for Samsung, not Sprint, under the warranty section. Sprint would never recall this phone for an issue that some people are having. Quite frankly if I were the overseeing supervisor in your case, I would've told you to direct your frustrations at Samsung and never have let you out of contract. As a consumer, do some research before picking up a product if you aren't willing to take the risk of having defects which WILL be fixed. This phone hasn't even received its first patch yet, and you've already cost Sprint valuable network expansion dollars to give you something you didn't deserve by throwing a temper tantrum. Grow up and stop ruining things for everyone else by shoving around the wrong people.

Let me guess your work on Wall Street as well...
Send your phone off to Samsung and please let us know when you get the same phone back in the same packaging you sent it in. Should take 2-3 days for you to get your package back, so be patient.
Thanks
Just so people aren't confused. This post has nothing to do with the Wall Street guy above. I provided information on what Sprint did for me as a customer, do to LOS issues. Hope some will find satisfaction in reaching out to them for the lack of service you have had. If you had great service no issues...Cool!
Thanks,
ME
I'm in love with the concept that if you have anything to say about anything [that isn't negative toward a carrier] you must either be an employee or a "fan boy"
Seriously? Go **** yourself with that nonsense.
Samsung makes the phone. It's a great phone.
Samsung is KNOWN for slow updates NO MATTER WHAT CARRIER THE PHONE IS ON
You can pressure Sprint all you want, it's not going to change who is actually responsible for updates and fixes.
"Carriers don't make updates/fixes they just test/approve them and release them."
So is sprint fault too bc they have to test the phones first and looks like they are not.

Google/Samsung event = pathetic?

Why are Google and Samsung are so bad?
I'm sure that comparing to Apple events is a bit unfair, since no one could sell "new" featured like Jobs... But come the hell on!
You are a multibillion dollar corporation; please hire (full-time, if needed) an actor completely well versed in the product being sold and being able to deliver it like a brand new feature (never even attempted in the industry) to consumers. I know you cannot hire Mr. Jobs, but come on! Is NOONE on the face of this Earth as good as him?

Apple puts on a good show, I never really thought Android had to. I only care about what it does, not how its presented. I'm not the least bit disappointed.
I like the phone and ICS but I agree the presentation was making me sleepy. Go ahead and brag with over inflated numbers in the beginning. Show your over exaggerated ego that people watched because they either love it or hate. Your in China god damn it let me see some kung fu or something. But, the phone was really nice and ICS is the shizzz. I wish they outlined the boring geek stuff like if hardware accelerated gui was being enabled. O well.

+1. The rumor is that Verizon will have it for a month or two(that's why they passed on getting a GSII variant) but I think sprint will be the last to get it considering they were the last to get the Nexus S. Google will prob worry about rolling it out to all the carriers as is first then worry about adding a wimax radio for sprint.
newalker91 said:
Because unlike you, Google and Samsung are forward-thinking. They see Sprint's efforts to roll out nationwide LTE coverage and the backhaul being done to the 3G network, therefore the network footprints will be there for the device to run on. While some people on this forum continue to find it more productive to whine than to research, a select few will welcome this device with open arms on the network in its current state knowing what there is ahead of us.

I'm going to go with newalker on this one. Not like I go into debate threads all the time and pick some.one to side with. I usually find my own opinion which is slightly differenr than every one elses but... ya us good geeks arnt mad and angery at to the point we yell often and hate on sprint. Sprints run by people. People make mistakes and sprint make a rather big one with wimax but I'm not pissed at all. I'm glad they figured it out sooner than later and are going to try to push out lte really really fast. We all have to apreciate what we have. 2 years ago we were so very far away from where we are today. 2 more years from now the whole dang sprint vision will be done. That's sooo fricken fast! I'm more than happy with my sg2 and 3g, most places have wifi and I personally feel blessed tech In phones is where it is. I'm still aww struck in where we are today. If people could take a step back and take a few deeps breaths and look at the big picture of where the big 3 have taken us in the last 5 years and what 5 more will bring you will be fine. Americas need to pump the breaks and be ok with the great stuff we got. Adroid phones are coming out so fast and so many its mind blowing. Every one should come to my island of Kauai for a bit to see how nice a little slower pace of living is and you will apreciate your phone and service at hand ( unless you got sub 300kbs serving in which case I'm sorry for you ). Idk why I said all this but we all gotta apreciate what we got
EDIT- it would be cool to have a little more ads for updates and androids but eh. AMD doesn't have tons of adds and I'm a AMD guy and I don't mind. Intel pumps out adds like apple. I almost like having a phone or knowing what all the masses ( iphone ) don't know/have. And I really like our little xda club
This isn't a debate thread. Just another thread jacked into one. O well, another thread that should get shut down.

The sad thing is, i feel bad for the people paying full price on sprint because im located in Rochester NY and sprint service should be great here but i rarely get service indoor's recently. 4G is a joke and Rochester was one of the first places to get it turned on. So im happy to move to a better network and brought myself to pay the extra $ for the service.... so enough about how sprints network is going down hill and on to how Verizon F***ED this launch up royally.
Maybe i hate Verizon for not mentioning a word about this phone. Maybe its because the Galaxy Nexus has been out for almost a month overseas. Maybe its because i feel like not only have i been waiting for this phone but i've also been waiting for Google to release an exciting new OS. Maybe it's the fact that i KNOW this phone can compete in the market as one of the best phones and not to mention its the flagship phone from Google that can kick start features like NFC and such. but then i think to myself... What did i just see when i turned on the TV or when i went to that website. ADs for the RAZR... THE RAZR.... ARE U KIDDING ME?
okay okay, i understand, back in 2003 it was the coolest phone on the block. TIMES HAVE CHANGED, Verizon knewwwwww they were getting the Nexus, and they hate they can't call it Droid. the name droid (personal opinion) is UGLY. Im not saying Galaxy Nexus is any better but i dont want to feel like i have a robot in my pocket. The Razr just came at the wrong time and VZ spent to much money with s$itty advertising like they always do.
I was really really hoping to see some type of great marketing strategy by verizon starting this week. Something along the lines of this:
Mon Night Football. 5 to 10 second commercial, completely white background and just out the nexus right in the middle of the high def screen. no music. mahyeb a piano key or smething, with just a shot of this beauty... then at the very end, flash Verizon so people know, that phone is coming to VZ, wow!!?? (and yes i would love to see a "with Google" slapped in there somewhere but we all know Verizon would have a heart attack promoting anyone but themselves)
and keep showing the commercial every day with a count down until the release date (which i was hoping the 9th) so it would have been even sweeter to see that commercial knowing i can freakin get that this week!?!
people know the verizon brand, they like the verizon brand becuase its associated with a good network. FOCUS ON YOUR PRODUCT, THE BEST ONE U HAVE. make people say, woahhhhhh what was that???? and im not talking about the people like us who wait and wait and wait knowing we will hold out for this, im talking about your average consumer, the one who see's a product and says, damn thats good looking, i WANT that. i WANT THAT NEOWWWZ!
(hell i even made a s$hitty youtube video to get my point across)
but no. No commercials, no internet Ad's, only one spot on thier website to put your email in a box (which NO ONE likes giving out) for more information....
Verizon, you messed up. You had a chance to make a boat load even more of cash and you missed out. im not even your customer yet and i dread the fact ill be stuck with you for two years.
and now we have this, no Google wallet. im highly confident once developers get their hands on this phone they will find a way to make it work, but instead Verizon points the finger and says its not them. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD GOOGLE NOT WANT TO HELP ITS OWN NEW SERVICE?!? It just doesnt make sense.........
alright, i just blacked out with anger/frustration while typing this so i hope it makes sense and i hope other people see what im seeing...
oh, and one last note.. This ones for you Google. i hope you paid attention to this whole launch. i hope you learned your leson about dancing with the RED DEVIL. They will take your masterpiece and piss all over it.
In my opinion the main problem with this launch is that Google and Samsung allowed Verizon to take control of it. I hate to compare to Apple, but they take full control of their product launches and do not allow the carriers to tamper in any way. Samsung and Google should have grown some balls and had the phone launched their way. If Verizon did not want to play ball then they just release the unlocked version here as they did in the past.
Cool story bro. Lol @ video. Lame but funny.

Hmm, that's weird. My company spends just shy of $100k a year on Verizon devices (somewhere around ~800 lines currently)...and my rep is just as unable to get one to sell as anyone else.
And he is the rep for 5 other companies around our size.
I think there's a much better chance you're a Verizon employee or were able to play with one in the immediate vicinity.
Your bigger rant should be how a company the size of VZW can hose their entire LTE network with each introduction of a new device.

Yeah, and you can bet that the resolution will be quiet and nothing else ever said of this outage.
"Isolated" will be the spin. I was going to head over to Verizon and eBay the GSM GNEX I have, but I just can't fork over $85 for a tiered plan when I have unlimited on ATT for $40 after taxes (2nd line on plan).
Oh well.

Not saying I necessarily don't believe you, just saying the "don't sell yet" thing is pretty hard...they probably aren't even allowing the devices to activate on the network yet.
Beyond that, not a single person knows the date it's releasing now. The update said "indefinite", meaning nobody knows for sure. It's just suspected for next week, at the moment.
I won't promise anything but I will call rep tomorrow for some info

I disagree.
Seriously. Think about it from Verizon's perspective. Why would they put money and advertising behind the Nexus phone when they have the Rezound and Razr that just came out and are of similar specs? They control the user experience on those devices and can put their subscription apps preloaded on them. Not true with the Galaxy Nexus. Of course they're going to market the hell out of the devices that make them more money.
That said, I agree that Samsung/Google should have taken more charge with this launch. Nexus devices are about no compromise, pure Android experiences, and no carrier/OEM tampering. What I've seen of the Verizon version has contradicted this in a few ways before the phone is even out. Makes me very happy I got the GSM version. But at least the LTE one is unlocked and there will be plenty of ROMs and support for it.

Beat me to it. This is VERY intriguing. At this point, I'm stuck with Sprint for a couple more years at least, most likely. Any sort of "cash infusion" is welcomed.
In the end, the only major player in my small city is Verizon, I may be jumping ship so I don't have to deal with crappy 3G speeds where 4G can be had. =\
And now Verizon looks like it's going after the Clearwire spectrum:

That move doesn't quite compute for me. Doesn't Sprint essentially control ClearWire? I suppose if Sprint needs cash more than it needs spectrum (which if probably the case), then it makes more sense.

sprint does Control Clear. At least that what I have read

Sprint owns clear but they are still run independently of each other. ..2 separate companies .... similar to how Samsung can compete against Apple being sued by Apple and will still sell parts to Apple

I agree, mostly. Except that Samsung isn't selling away their most important asset to Apple, the tech and research behind the screens.
As I understand it, ClearWire only has one thing that people want, and that is the spectrum itself. Unless Sprint can never use the spectrum Verizon wants, this move still confuses me.
Does anybody in here know about how this affects stocks? It went up almost $1 today!!!! So I was reading and did some research and this article says that it will disappear after a couple days and to sell , I dont understand how all that works anyone w some insight id greatly appreciate it.

Big, there is no magic formula for how stocks go up and down. I mean, at one time or another, there are methods to follow, but once everyone catches on...typically it stops working. That's not to say that in situations like this, with announcements like this, that the sudden excitement doesn't drive prices up only to come back down shortly thereafter. It happens, and happens often.
But, who's to say in this instance that prices don't hold and potentially go up even further?
For all intensive purposes, the stock market is a zero-sum game (debatable). When I lose, someone else has won.
All in all, I stay away from the stock market. Not because it's inherently bad, but because I haven't spent enough time researching it and getting to know the ins and outs.

Thank you for this. I can't believe I've been saying this wrong for so long. Myself being a person who takes pride in proper grammar etiquette had to look it up to make sure you were correct. Alas, you are 100% right, and I've probably sounded like an ass at more than a few interviews lol.

Of course it would go up: the prospect that now 2 companies are looking forward to buy CW (one of them at a higher price) makes CW stock a bit more attractive thus pushing people to buy shares, as the amount of shares available go down their price goes up and now whoever owns CW shares is making an extra dollar per share if they decide to sell.
its sprint

its not clear wire that they want to buy .....dish is trying to buy sprint and verizon wants to lease the clear spectrum . dish offered 25.5 billion for sprint and verizon offered 1.5 billion to lease the spectrum ...vzw is not trying to buy clear that deal is already done with sprint and clear ..

I really hope not. Dish IMHO is the bargain basement satellite. Many complaints of non existent customer service. Would be the beginning of the end for Sprint as this approach seems have been tried by Sprint and failed horribly.

if dish buys sprint, ill walk.
Offering more cash, keeping it in US, "synergy" with TV offerings... all fine and good sounding as statements I've read around the web for "pro" DiSH (I would actually contest the positive aspects of the TV network/wireless network synergy...)
The fact is, Softbank has Many orders of magnitude in assets overall to continue to support and invest in the network. And the motivation to do it, as a well established tech-forward company. ($4 trillion vs $11 billion...)
As where DiSHs motivations in the wireless business are akin to Comcasts in the ISP business. Not to provide you an excellent data service, but to sell you the bundles, the programing, the advertising, where their true money is made. Bad for the consumer.
I for one, welcome our new Eastern overlords.
I am a customer of both Sprint and Dish already. I guess that wouldn't hurt to combine the two. For me anyway... Though this is clearly a response to comcast teaming with Vzw.
