Your configuration seems fine; however I have a different one and am using SSL connections instead with the following setup for all my yahoo mail accounts:
IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Security Type: SSL
Server Port: 993
SMTP Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Security Type: SSL
Server Port: 465
Also, I think that if you use the default HTC client, then it configures the server setup automatically via HTCs servers. So that should always work for the OP.

I tried pop settings as set on my laptop without SSL n it worked.
Will try both your settings and experiment

i getting an error message all of sudden
The following errors occurred while sending and receiving messages:
The message(s) cannot be sent. Be certain that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again.
Any ideas why i'm getting this??
i believe its on googles side. they just rolled out a new version of gmail and ive even had some issues with webmail as well as my phone not being able to connect
its been a couple of days, will this issue be fixed or will i have to use something else..
no idea..i dont work for google.
Works fine for me now (GMail).
Is your gmail set up to check via IMAP or POP3? Mine's set for IMAP and I haven't had any trouble sending or receiving gmail since I set it up. I ask coz it might be a problem with Google's POP servers.
I am running IMAP on Gmail and appear to have no issues.
im running IMAP
and still having the issues.

Make sure that you have both "Outgoing server requires authent.." and "use the same name and password for sending..." checked.
I would assume username and password are correct? That you have the "save password" checked?
Can you receive just fine? Just not send correctly, right?
doesn't the username have to be something like " recent: [email protected]" or is that for pop3 only?
yea, i can receive correctly just not send
all my settings are correct
should i just delete and redo?
Gmail, non responsive
I had trouble getting Gmail to work too...
Did the renaming work-around, settings all looked good, but it ended up working for me by:
switch to "Work" instead of "The Internet"
in the "Advanced Server Settings"
on the "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server:" page

Was this required to get it to work with GPRS/EDGE? I think mine only works with Wifi, so I'm thinking this may be my issue.
i simply use gmail app with lnk at start menu...lean and fast

Desire HTC mail POP/IMAP manual setup not working?

Hi all,
I got my Desire yesterday. It is a gorgeous device, but has one fatal flaw. The POP/IMAP manual e-mail setup in HTC mail is not working.
Gmail or Hotmail work fine - there is no need for a manual setup, the phone does it for you.
But Yahoo, or any other custom mail does not work. When setting up the incoming and outgoing mail server, the phone gets stuck at the incoming mail server setting and doesn't advance to the outgoing server setting as it should.
After you set up the incoming mail server you hit next and the phone checks online and a popup says "Verifying account settings". After this is done, I believe it should advance to outgoing server settings, but it doesn't and gets stuck at the incoming server settings screen...
This is a very fatal mistake and problem - one of the main functions of a smartphone not working...
Can you guys see if it works for you - maybe its only my unit that is faulty?

I got it set it up on my University IMAP fine, I had this issue but just had to change the security type to TSL.
Unfortunately that doesn't work for me...
It is very weird, as the same settings worked with K-9 mail app without any issues...
I got the same issue so I use K-9 Mail instead (which I prefer since it seems to push my emails faster)
I can't get it to sign in to gmail. I have a @googlemail account, and it just fails to verify account information every time. All other mail accounts, Hotmail and proper POP3, work fine.
That's cause you use the Gmail app for Googlemail, not the normal mail app

I prefer to use the HTC mail widget. Anyway, I got the thing going now, by connecting via imap instead.
I'm in touch with HTC customer service and we're trying to figure out what is wrong. I'll set up a test account for them so that they can test it and see why the e-mail is not being set-up. Will update later...
i set up gmail as an exchange server.. Only done it half hour ago but it should be push now
I'm also having this same issue. (Trying to use SSL.)
Anyone manage to made Yahoo Mail wotking on IMAP? I have an YahooPlus account and I can connect using a WM device, but no chance with Desire [using the same settings as in WN device]. On Desire, it stuck on first step - setting of incoming IMAP mail server, saying each time "wrong username/pw"....

Not IMAP but with POP3, yep. Works flawlessly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Has anyone sorted this out ? I've having the same issue with the imap setup on my desire. Very frustrating after shelling out for this thing.
Cheers
Have you tried using the stock Android mail app which can be found here:
http://rhedgehog.com/apk/email.apk
I prefer this to the HTC Sense mail app and its much more flexible/configurable during the set-up phase, I had problems with my Uni account swapped to this and no problems since then using IMAP, POP and SMTP
I also have difficulties getting IMAP+SSL to work with the HTC mail application.
I suspect it has something to do with the certificate. The server I'm trying to connect to doesn't have a verified certificate, and you don't get prompted to accept the certificate, as you do if you use the K-9 mail app.

I had same kind of problems with Hero after upgrading to android 2.1.
Problem seems to be related to setup procedure. It is not able to prompt certificate acceptance dialog. But if you setup account with address that is not existing or where is not imaps service running it will say that it can't verify account but you are able to continue. After creating account launch mail application, go to settings and put real server name. At this point it will prompt certificate acceptance dialog and after that it is working.
I of course had the same trouble on my Aria but managed to get it working by following these instructions:
first open mail.
enter manual setup.
INCOMING:
as for settings:
protocol: Imap
Email: [email protected]
user name: youraccount
password: your password
IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port:143
OUTGOING:
login required is checked
user name: youraccount
password: your password
SMTP server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port: 587
NOTE: if it still wont let you set up incoming server, try first entering in a non-existent server. such as imap.mail.yahoo.commm or something. it will give you an error message but hit continue. NOT OK! from there set up outgoing correctly.
then exit.
then launch mail app and select that account. click menu-more-settings-account settings and enter the correct server address.
hopefully this works for you guys as it did for me.
--Edit--
forgot to add, if possible, make sure wifi is off.
also, I have discovered that htc mail wont log in unless you are SIGNED OUT of your yahoo account everywhere else. i had my laptop automatically loading yahoo's web pasge and i guess it was messing it up. so sign out of yahoo mail before closing your browser.
hope this helps.
sent my yahoo and my talktalk account up on my phone..fine!
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to do this on my WiFi as it would not connect over 3G...

[Q] Hotmail

Hey guys,
Anyone knows how to sync hotmail with the DHD email app? cuz when i delete mails from the DHD app, it doesn't touch the mail on Hotmail.
Thanks alot.
When you set up account use the following settings:
Type: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Username: [email protected]
Password: yourpassword
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
That will sync fully with Hotmail including contacts/calandar (optional).
sorry but i think i did something wrong cause it din work. after setting up, i tried to delete a message from the mail app. however it did not delete from hotmail. after i delete via the mail app, i get a new email notification about the email i just deleted. sorry for the trouble but can i get more specific instructions? and how to delete the old account?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I've just given this a try and I can get my hotmail account up, however a couple of things don't seem to be working correctly or differently from the pop settings I previously used for Hotmail:
1) Every time I open my email the screen is blank, it then populates the emails, it does this every time I go back in, it appears like it's re-downloading them, but I'm not 100% sure, when using the pop settings you enter email and the previously sync'd emails are still there.
2) the account keeps re-syncing even though I have the 15 minute option set up rather than the push email (I'll try this option later). Every time it re-syncs it blanks the inbox and re-populates it.
3) once re-populated I can read and delete emails, however after a few seconds (maybe a minute) it re-syncs and all emails are unread, and any deleted emails re-appear.
the settings i'm using are:
Microsoft exchange activesync,
email address: [email protected]
Server address: m.hotmail.com
Username: [email protected] <-- this defaulted to just X, I had to enter the @hotmail.com for it to work
Password, and left a tick in the "this server requires an encrypted SSL connection" box.
There was a box for Domain, but I left this blank.
I'll give push email a try and write again once I have.
I've just tried the push option, and it works a treat!
None of that re-syncing, and my inbox isn't blank / require re-downloading every time I go into my mail.
Deleting emails on my phone now deletes them from my hotmail inbox as well!
Thanks for finding the settings!
Hope this works as well for other people.
Grim
Push is the same as putting it on manual in the update schedule right? Trying to do the same on my live account as the i just noticed that new e-mails that i have read via my laptop are being sent to my phone as unread.
Username: [email protected]
Password: yourpassword
Server: pop3.live.com
Use SSL: Yes

Oh yes, I spent over an hour online trying to make that work, and even called up my school's tech support desk. No luck.
I tried on the droid email app, another one I can't remember, and k-9. I couldn't make it work. I eventually synced it to my gmail, tagged all the mail coming in TO that address into it's own folder with a filter to bypass inbox, they have settings and whatnot for all that, you'll also be able to send email as that email address without logging into outlook. I haven't tried that last part on the native, I've just been using k9. It's like I have two separate email addresses in one app,
I have a hot mail alias still in outlook dunno if it matters but I used under domain \[email protected] and for server m.hotmail.com which the email app changed to snt-m.hot mail.com.
Also this is configured as exchange.
Anyhow its working.
ok, here is the solution.....
Add email account
First type in your new renamed email address : emailaddress @outlook . com and password : your password.
Hit next and select POP.
Now follow the settings below.
Incoming settings:
username: emailaddress @ outlook . com
password: your password
pop3 server: pop3.live.com
port: 995
security type: SSL/TLS
Delete email from server: never
Outgoing Settings:
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Security Type: STARTTLS
Require Sign-in: YES
Username: same as username above
Password: same as above
VOILA !!!!
hit "thanks" if it works.., its free

Cannot connect to my exchange email - thoughts?

I cannot seem to get my corporate email setup on my new G4. We switched to office 365 awhile ago and there were some issues getting migrated over, but we identified the (silly) issue and it seemed to be no big deal. On my S4 that I just came from, as well as my N7 2013, I would put in my
username: \myusername
server: outlook.office365.com
domain: didn't have to type it in after the switch but for the same of argument its "MyDomain"
connect: SSL
port: 443
client cert: none
G4 exchange account asks for all this, I put it in, it says login failed. tried a bunch of different ways including inputting the domain name, have @Company.com after the username, domain\username, etc etc and so far no dice. I use the phone 50% for work so need to get it resolved asap, I'm assuming it is something really simple that I am missing.

Make sure you have unknown sources checked. Try again after installing, make sure to restart gmail if you have it open.

Thank you, this managed to get it to connect. I'll have to check and see that it is syncing properly. The problem before when we switched over was the "" before the username - without it I could not sync global address book contacts.
Also noticed that it has randomly decided to nickname some of my gmail contacts and lists their nickname instead of full name under contacts...frustrating...
'Cannot check the validity of server error' message
I'm having the same trouble getting my Office365 exchange email set up on my new G4; it was so simple on my Galaxy S4 and prior to that my Motorola Droid X.
I've tried all the permutations of setting suggested here but I get stopped with security warnings starting with:
"Cannot check the validity of server" and it tells me if I go on there could be security issues. Even if I select OK, it says it can't connect to server.
Any ideas? I'm not conversant with the security certificate stuff.
Thanks,
Gerry E.

I got tired of all the Exchange implementations that always failed.
I switched to Nine a long time ago...avoids all these headaches and works perfectly.
First of all try this:
server: www.office365.com, not outlook.office365.com
I recommend you install the latest Exchange Services by Google..
The stock one is messed up. Disable it when you're done setting up your email using Google's Exchange Services.
Worked for me.
