Which chefs do we want?

Generally speaking...if you buy a chef a great device (or the best device in this case) and it has root + rom flash image, then roms will follow.
Obviously this is not a demand, we would require Galaxy S owners' support and the chef's support, but if we think of people to approach, then we can ask and if they're cool with it we'll start fundraising.
Anyone got any ideas who they'd like to cook and the I'll edit this post with a link to that chef's donation link and we can get this thing rolling.
Short list:
-Kingklick (my recommendation)
Any other ideas? I won't start pledges until we're settled on a chef.

Yes kingklick is absolutely amazing. Cyanogen is unlikely to cook for a non-htc device. Paul has a lot on his plate but his roms are great...he devs for loadsa devices...

Uhhh - This would be out of KingClicks' league unless he has learned a whole lot. He mainly modifies what others have already discovered or created. He doesn't do a lot of new code work himself. At least that is how I understand it from following most of the devs on Twitter.
That isn't to say that he doesn't do a lot of work (I have used his ROM's in the past!) - just that most of it isn't original. This project would need someone who does a lot of their own original work.
This is generally not the best way to get a dev to work for you. What you really need to do is scout the devs to see who would be willing. Then post up here to see who would be willing to donate to get that dev a device. Otherwise, someone could be sitting here with a bunch of donated cash and no dev to purchase a device for!

I think Galaxy S is absolutly perfect as it is.. only thing it needs is root.. the rest i am happy with
OnT: Cyanogen, Modaco or eventually Richardtrip would i like to see working on Galaxy

custom f/ws would be nice with
1. hi mem support.. you need to kill apps after a while or the think gets slow
2. support for full 360% rotation everywhere
3. root and bootloader support for nandroid backup/restore
4. be able to install apps from bootloader like htc live wallpaper etc.
5. setcpu support
6. be able to apply morphs so can make notif. bar transparent.
etc etc

I found a dev who might be willing if he can get enough money to purchase the device. He's already purchased three devices on his own over the last two years and can't afford to purchase another.
I'll keep this updated.

I'll chip in 50 bucks towards a device for him to get it ported.

id be willing to make a healthy contribution as well if it were a well versed dev and we knew we would get some steady progress.

Guys, something like this happened in the Acer Liquid community in Modaco and to say the least, **** happened.
Useless posts, childish replys/manners, cursing and attacking etc....
Even if you bought the device don't expect anything from the developer. Thats my advice and good luck.

The good old donation AFTER the dev already has his own device and created the ROMs is much preferred. That way the devs don't own the donators anything, and vice versa.

you make a good point.
estimating the popularity of the handset and assuming that ROMs for each revisions will be somewhat easily tweakable/compatible, id hope that there is a strong dev following for the device.

First off developers do this as a hobby not a job. They don't get paid for it. Usually ROM updates follow stock updates such as to EC05 or adding voodoo sound and color. So if there is nothing new to add then what would you have them do?
If you have a specific request you can go to development of the ROM you have donated to and request that feature. The other option is to feel free to work on a ROM in your spare time.
Trying to be as nice as possible, you will get some nasty comments from some people.
Do you BONSAI?

Ya i know all that, believe me its not my first time doing all this stuff. ha. I was just hoping to get some replies from the developers of the roms. But ya i probably should just contact the actual developers.

Yes, I would PM the developers and see what's up. FYI Bonsai will be releasing a new beta in the coming weeks for donors to test and Rodderick told me he is releasing a new Genocide kernel in the coming weeks.

the first phrase highlighted and the second highlighted phrase directly contridict each other, and that is whats crappy about this community. it used to all be for fun. donation buttons should be banned.
and dont call me a non donator either. ive donated to bonsai lately (or tribal knowledge lmtd. as donators would know it) and many other devs in the past. it should NEVER be a requirement for service though.

You are right, it is not a requirement for service, however it should never be requested for Devs to give up their life and time for free to make ROM hungry people happy. I gladly donate to the kernel and ROM devs whose product I find the best and feel no shame in pm'ing them about future products. If ROMs don't come out fast enough for some people they should learn to make their own ROMs. I see too many ungrateful people in these threads that ***** and whine but don't donate as if the DEVs are getting paid by XDA to develop ROMs and we as registered users somehow deserve them.
That's all I am saying. Don't want to turn this into some kind of service/donate debate.

with 2.3 looming, its doubtful any updates with be done. Besides; how much better can they get them??

Yes, I think they are all waiting to get a copy of the source code for 2.3. My phone is ridiculously fast and stable so I am happy right now.

there are always new roms to me ... i almost never look up newer ones until the one i have limits me somehow or i accidentally do the sprint update and my phone crashes

Well, hallo there!
It's been a while since I've posted a release thread on XDA... I've been lurking in the shadows (and on IRC) for quite some time.
Here, I present to you a teaser of things to come:
ClockworkMod Recovery (non-touch) 6.0.1.5 for the Sprint Optimus G.
What is this?
This is a "recovery" for your phone, it allows you to install custom ROMs, back up your phone, fix it when it breaks, and much more.
This specific version is "ClockworkMod", which was created by the CyanogenMod team and Koush.
There are many recovery versions out there, I have picked ClockworkMod because it is very easy to compile and debug.
I will compile other recoveries as time permits.

Where can I get it?

Note: this is a "tethered" build of CWM, as you can not flash it. You must use fastboot to boot the image every time you wish to enter recovery.
This is due to the locked bootloader on this device.
This will not allow you to install a custom ROM just yet, and please don't ask for custom ROM dates yet. I'm working on it...
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
This is *not* safe, and should *not* be done by anyone unsure of what they are doing.
I will post links once I have ironed out bugs, but I WILL NOT SUPPORT anyone using it to modify their phone.
Please don't use this if you don't know how to LGNPST your phone back from the dead, should you accidentally kill it.

Luckily the video quality isn't potato, but the audio sure is. My explanation is that my HTC Vivid doesn't like me. An engineer's explanation would be that I was speaking softly, as it was 1:30AM at the time of recording, and the phone merely decided that my meek volume was purely background noise... at least, I think that's what an engineer would say, as I haven't graduated yet.

fastboot is the same as with the AT&T varient, aka oem unlock does nothing.

I would definitely be willing to provide the appropriate files for the LG U+ Korean variant. However I have never used IRC. If the OP would be willing to PM me instructions I would do my best to get the files to him.
EDIT: No rush, no pressure. I understand that the US domestic carriers are certainly priority in this endeavor, once OP has everything ironed out, perhaps then he may be interested/ willing to include international carriers/ variants.

Recovery Is posted under the download link. I attempted to reboot tethered into recovery you posted, but fastboot doesn't seem to want to detect my device. Lg drivers are installed and debugging is on, any thoughts?

So, here's a quick update:
We've got lots of work to do. We have a _very_ viable avenue for FULL AOSP compatibility.
Right now, us developers need to sit down and talk about some major changes to the phone-- and plan out a 'disaster recovery' scenario, since this is no longer a 'quick modification' of the system, but a full AOSP conversion.
Without saying too much, we have quite a bit of proof to support our theories, and a member of the development team is now running the first build of Android 4.2 on his/her Optimus G with very few issues.
It suffers from the same issues that the Nexus 4 does-- for instance, benchmarks are ~4500 as opposed to the 7500 that have been reported by members of the community.
At this point in time though, we will be working "behind closed doors" for a few days until we can come up with a workable solution to this, as the current method is very long and convoluted, and will cause confusion with the Sprint version.
Since I'm posting this same reply on both of my threads (sprint and ATT), I'll give the Sprint update here too...
We've run into some issues with the Sprint version, although it is possible that they'll be easily rectified here in the coming days. Suffice it to say though that we have made less progress with the Sprint variant than the ATT variant (oddly enough). However, I've got some ideas (*cough cough* GPT partition trickery) that should fix the issue.
As usual-- PLEASE do not message myself of any of the other developers asking for an ETA. I know y'all are anxious, but if you really need to know, just stop by IRC and listen for a few mins, you'll probably hear us chattering away about hex offsets and load addresses in between me and my coworker tending to b0rked RHEL installs and Juniper firewalls.
In regards to LGNPST, look for a writeup here soon... I know it's been a source of frustration to some of you on the IRC channel, however please don't expect that I have a full 4 hours to devote to teaching commandline basics for Windows.
Once again, much thanks goes out to Shelnutt2, g33k3r, ilkinasr92, and xboxfanj for all the hard work.

What do you think are the chances of getting WIFI calling to work (has been available for AOSP for several months, CM13 supposedly has it baked in)?
For us T-Mobile users with older phones (missing some of the newer radio bands, for better/speedier coverage), WIFI calling is still very important.

Preface:Lots of great developers have been bringing Cyanogenmod to the Honor 5X, but no one has posted any experimental builds for people to flash. Since I have been able to build CM with the sources other developers have kindly created, I would like to share builds for others to try out on their devices without having to setup an Android build environment.
I would like to clarify a few things:
These builds are UNOFFICIAL and may not be daily driver material.
I just build these ROMs from sources OTHER developers create. See credits below for developer list.
I cannot provide ETAs for the next build, new features, or anything else.
I have only tested these builds on KIW-24, so other variants might not support this ROM.
You are solely responsible for flashing this ROM along with any damage that might result from said flash. See the disclamer.

See post 2 for screenshots and changelogs
Disclaimer: Voided warranties, bricked devices, rogue alarms at 2AM etc. are all your own problem. Neither any developer nor XDA is responsible for any unpleasantness that may result from using this ROM.

I can only test on kiw-24. Another user has reported being able to flash ROM on kiw-22. If you or someone else can confirm that this will work on other variants, I'll update the OP.

I didn't mean to imply that other devs where in anyway at fault for no posted builds. I understand the desire to focus on fixing bugs rather than maintaining builds, but there a lot of people, myself included, that don't mind running buggy builds if we can get a taste of CM.
By the way, do you want me to add you to the credits?

Thanks for replying fast man, actually I don't own the device yet, I was following the development here and thanks to you guys I might consider getting it, you made a big difference hope you keep on with this, your work is much appreciated :victory:

My deal is this... I also have builds of BrokenOs (my rom) for this device but i havent posted any for public use, for one reason...Respect... @crpalmer is doing 95% of the legwork for this device over there at CM and Im sure once hes ready and comfortable with where it is, he will announce builds somewhere for it....I think its both premature, and kinda crappy, to make public someones work before even they think its ready for public use.... My 2 cents... Oh, and i dont care about credit for anything..Im just a rom dev, i get enough for that....

Thank you @Bandit Development for the build. While I understand where @InkSlinger420 is coming from I much prefer the state of where @crpalmer has brough CM to over stock. I've been running this for about 4 hours. GPS works great, data and phone work great. Most importantly switching between apps doesn't draaaaaaaag.

Hopefully those responsible for the hard work on this rom will realize this wasn't an attempt to grab the spotlight, but rather a way to placate the masses. Also, needed or not, there is valuable information even in the few early posts because not everyone uses their phones the same way, so one person may never run into a bug that another person sees frequently.
Fingers crossed, but perhaps this thread will also limit the number of posts in the [Dev] thread asking when etc.......... I know I filled it with build questions which probably didn't belong there either. However, I'm trying to learn a little about rom development and one of the first steps to that is to be able to build the rom so you can test your tweaks, or at least see how someone else's changes affect the phone.

It would take me approximately 30 seconds to add automatic nightly builds to my autobuild server (I already generate some builds every night).
Consider that and the fact that I haven't done so as an indication of whether or not I thought builds should be posted right now...

Wow, didn't realize you have a server dedicated to building. Because of this, I did not know that you wanted to wait to post builds. Would you like me to ask an admin to remove this thread? I sincerely don't want to mess with your work, plans, or anything else.

You don't need to remove the thread, I am just pointing out that I don't think that the build is at a level of quality that represents well the work of CyanogenMod.

Well, I'm happy to let you take over cooking builds if you'd like. I certainly don't claim to be able to make quality builds.
I would really appreciate any tips/info you'd like to share that would improve my builds. I've been trying to learn how to fix bugs and contribute to the ROM development, but the task seems to be a rather undocumented and slow-going.
