Google maps showing high usage even though I haven't used it. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've noticed Google maps has been keeping my phone awake quite a bit during the day. I've never noticed this behavior before in any of my phones. Not sure if it is a Google Now thing? My battery drain while on standby seems higher than what I would expect from a battery this size. Almost 2-3% an hour with zero use. I can get through the day fine but poor standby drain makes a second day out of the question. On just plain standby my Sensation can last as long or longer with 1/2 the battery.

Uninstalled what update?

Not sure which update it was, whichever one is current. I used the Manage Applications menu to uninstall updates on Maps. It won't let you uninstall maps without using TiBu or something similar. Since Maps is considered a system app, you can only uninstall updates. That was sufficient to end the needless power drain.

I noticed when I turned off Google now it went away and I have the most current maps update. You might want to check it out

Google play , ,find google maps app and then uninstall. reboot your phone.
Don't worry, you are not uninstalling the all app just the update.

I'm trying ot avoid turning off google now. Battery life is good enough I can live with it but if I can get rid of the battery drain and keep google now that would be gravey.

Yes. I've had location services enabled on every Android phone I've owned and I've never seen that high map usage so something is different about the Note II setup. When I was using Jelly Bean on my Sensation I never recalled seeing that heavy maps usage so I'm thinking something is off on my setup with the Note II.

After uninstalling the update it looks better. Google search on , ,gps on.
Anyway. .the battery life on this phone is amaizing.i didn't root my phone yet to flash a custom rom because everything looks awesome.

Yeah if you want all that on it will use some battery. I turned everything off I mentioned earlier, google now still works perfectly, but I have 0 maps activity at all registering on my battery activity.

Hit the weather on the widget so it brings up the 5 day forcast. Top right corner hit the menu button. Again, top right hand corner hit the +, put in your zip code and hit your town. Now hit the menu button on the phone itself by the home button, hit show current city, and turn off.
Thats it, your good to go.

This is why I use AutoStarts to prevent apps from starting up in background and manage when the apps do run in the background so that the apps don't take up so much system resources. Yes, Google Maps does auto start when your device boots up and then runs in the background.

Americans Are The Most Spied On People In World History
More Spying On Citizens than in Stasi East Germany
TechDirt notes:
In a radio interview, Wall Street Journal reporter Julia Angwin (who’s been one of the best at covering the surveillance state in the US) made a simple observation that puts much of this into context: the US surveillance regime has more data on the average American than the Stasi ever did on East Germans.
Indeed, the American government has more information on the average American than Stalin had on Russians, Hitler had on German citizens, or any other government has ever had on its people.
The American government is collecting and storing virtually every phone call, purchases, email, text message, internet searches, social media communications, health information, employment history, travel and student records, and virtually all other information of every American.
Some also claim that the government is also using facial recognition software and surveillance cameras to track where everyone is going. Moreover, cell towers track where your phone is at any moment, and the major cell carriers, including Verizon and AT&T, responded to at least 1.3 million law enforcement requests for cell phone locations and other data in 2011. And – given that your smartphone routinely sends your location information back to Apple or Google – it would be child’s play for the government to track your location that way.
As the top spy chief at the U.S. National Security Agency explained this week, the American government is collecting some 100 billion 1,000-character emails per day, and 20 trillion communications of all types per year.
He says that the government has collected all of the communications of congressional leaders, generals and everyone else in the U.S. for the last 10 years.
He further explains that he set up the NSA’s system so that all of the information would automatically be encrypted, so that the government had to obtain a search warrant based upon probably cause before a particular suspect’s communications could be decrypted. But the NSA now collects all data in an unencrypted form, so that no probable cause is needed to view any citizen’s information. He says that it is actually cheaper and easier to store the data in an encrypted format: so the government’s current system is being done for political – not practical – purposes.
He says that if anyone gets on the government’s “enemies list”, then the stored information will be used to target them. Specifically, he notes that if the government decides it doesn’t like someone, it analyzes all of the data it has collected on that person and his or her associates over the last 10 years to build a case against him."

[SVC] Sleuth's myLocation Service: your phone always knows where it is!

It seems like websites and online services are popping up everywhere that can use location to give you more relevant information. Accuweather and others feature location aware weather sites and Google Maps can accept coordinate information to return location aware search results. Of course, with positional awareness comes controversy. Many emerging strategies are "push based" which means that your location is automatically (and perhaps secretly) pushed out to the Internet to maintain relevance. I don't agree with this architecture and in many ways, this project is an attempt to provide an alternative that gives you the benefits of location relevance while protecting your anonymity.
myLocation is a foundation service that simply stores position data, updated every 10 seconds, in the registry. This data is yours to use. You can choose how you want to leverage it. In the application/games forum, I'll build on this service with applications that give you location aware weather & search tools. Hopefully others will too.
myLocation v1.2 is available.
ChangeLog
v1.2
Obtained fix has GPS accuracy when Mach2003's GpsModDriver v2.2 or > is installed and active (a program is using the mod driver com port). This version of the driver hasn't been released as of April 5 2010 but expect it soon. The application thread is here: Gps Mod Driver Thread
v1.1
Fixed scroll error on control panel app when SIP is raised
Improved the tower caching algorithm. myLocation accesses the data connection even less now.
Having an issue where the service won't stay disabled after a reset? The fix is here.

The myLocation service stores your phone's current latitude and longitude in HKLM\Services\myLocation. Based on cell tower ID's, myLocation is accurate to within 1-3KM.
Why is this cool?
myLocation uses almost zero power.
your phone's position is updated every 10 seconds
myLocation's data plan requirements are measured in bytes and can be monitored.
Latitude and Longitude are stored as string values for easy manipulation by scripts etc.
Device compatibility:
HTC GSM Touch/PocketPC are the only supported devices at this time. I've tested all the way back to WM5 on a TyTN (some font issues on the cpl dialog)
TMobile USA service is not supported at this time either. TMO USA tower positions haven't been loaded into Google's web service yet.
In short: If Google Maps Mobile doesn't work correctly in cell tower mode on your device, then this service won't either. there may be cases where GMM does work but myLocation does not. I'm interested to know about these cases.
Installation Notes
If you already have myLocation installed, disable the service using the control panel applet before installing this version. If you are running a very old beta without a control panel applet, uninstall myLocation and reset your device before installing v1.0. After installing, use the myLocation Control panel applet (installed in the System folder) to start the myLocation service. Alternatively, you can reset your device.
Developer Notes
myLocation's position data is stored in HKLM\Services\myLocation
"Latitude" is a string value containing a 6 decimal precision latitude. Negative = south latitude
"Longitude" is a string value containing a 6 decimal precision longitude. Negative = West longitude
If you throw an error loading these values or opening the myLocation Key itself then myLocation isn't installed. You can either default or throw an error pointing to the installer thread. My apps default to Island Pond VT just for grins.
Sleuth's myLocation aware applications
myRadar shows animated radar images of the weather around your current location. Works on all screen resolutions. Map scrolling is gesture enabled on WM6.5 and some WM6.0. Its "flickable" Currently only US weather services are enabled due to the free nature of NOAA weather services there. I'm working on others though.
mySearch is a fast, finger friendly application that uses Microsoft Bing's mobile search site to return location aware searches.
Need Sushi? type "sushi" in and press search. List returned is ordered by closest
Running low on gas? yep: type in "gas station".
Trying to find your closest bank branch? type in the name of your bank and press search.
Of course, Bing is smart enough to know when the location info sent to it has relevance, so it also works great as a general purpose tool for searches that don't have location relevance. Check out the application thread for screenshots of this.
Showaco's Titanium Weather update
Do you use this CHome plugin? If you do, here's a replacement script that uses myLocation position data!
Note to current users: I've updated the script due to the fact that the rainmeter service was discontinued by AccuWeather on March 15th 2010. I now do a reverse geolocate from Google to find zipcode from lat/long then send it to the original webservice. This should insure a more permanent solution.
If your TitaniumWeather is no longer working, then follow the instructions below to fix
How to install:
1. Download Sleuth's titaniumweather.mscr
2. Copy to \program files\TitaniumWeather
3. Run a full update.
This script will use myLocation data if the registry keys exist, otherwise it will use location information defined in the setup program.
Coming Soon!
myConfiguration, a location aware device configuration changer. Define locations then configure custom sounds, notifications, and online services for each.
Don't like email buzzing while at home? No problem! Want WiFi enabled at work but off everywhere else? Use myConfiguration.
Do you need to have a data plan or internet connection to use this application, and will we get service charge through our phone carrier for using this application?
Thank you for your contribution
"Received Invalid CellTower Data" for me.
my location service will not work with T-Mobile US 3G
I have already discussed this with TMO-US tech support. My Location service will not work with 3G, it will work while connected to GPRS/EDGE. Not sure what the problem is. the cell towers are not registered. I just tried your service, but it returned the same values as GoogleMaps puts me in Chelsea hotel in NYC, while I am actually about 400 miles away.
I am sure that it will work if I disable 3G and switch to GPRS/EDGE.

Yes, you need a data plan. the program sends out 50 bytes to a web service and receives about 20 bytes back. There is no operator based service charge other than what you would normally incur by sending out/receiving that much information over your data connection.

I'm assuming you have a rhodium variant from your sig. If you don't mind telling me, which one is it exactly and who's your operator?

Hmmm... working in 3G here. Since my app is throwing the same invalid data as GMM, I'm guessing its a database issue. TMO may not be providing correct location information for their newer 3G towers.
It works for me........1,6 Kilometers from me.
Nice job indeed.
This is such a great idea, if we can get wide support for it this will be great for no-power estimated location for things which don't require exact locations, as you say weather, even paired with some other tool could be used as a tracking device. I have something I've ran for a long time which uploads my cell-based location to a web service, something like that could use this etc..
Works just fine on my Tilt 2, standard ATT ROM, created the key and it wrote the coordinates, etc.. 1800 feet from my current location.
I believe you are seeing the possibilities
This test app should be every bit as accurate as Google Maps Mobile is in cell tower mode btw.
Works fine with O2 in Germany (Edge).
Location is about 4 miles off, but it's where the actual tower is and where google believes I am.

Yes TP2 on Sprint
If we could get a more robust search app that we could run all the time and have it automatically update so that ANYTIME I looked at it, it had the current yellowpages search results for every business within a half mile (or some user definable range) that I am in. This would be awesome!
That's the thought behind a positional aware device. This project will do the under the hood work: automatic current position in HKLM\Services\myLocation w/o battery drain or high data expense.

Ahhh... CDMA variant is the reason. Your error was puzzling. I'm not familiar with Sprint/Verizon RIL but for sure I believe they are protected by their respective operators. I may be able to get away with it by signing my app correctly. Does Google Maps Mobile work for you?
Works for me. Puts me in the same spot as Google Maps. About 1/2 mile from my actual location.
I wonder why I get a:
WM5?
Smartphone?
MotoQ?

How about languages?
As all are aware, tango build will support 120 languages.
Does any one have the list of languages supported by tango?
I am just curious about Indian languages.. (which or any will be supported)
Aslo not sure how they will be supported?
- Will it include UI in those languages
- Or only tango will be able to render apps and websites developed in those languages
Fantastic...
How is IE9? Is the promised "Find on Page" feature back? Also did they add a tabs button? Or do we really have to wait a full year for this?
Anyway the other changes in Tango are minor bt very welcomed, certainly the rotation of the maps and the 8 multitask cards.
Are there any changes in the setting... specifically ability to setup mms with unlocked devices? Also curious if there is the ability to leave wifi on during "sleep" mode (screen off).
My phone has had those maps settings for a long time now... unless you are talking about the fact that yours is missing the 'tap to read directions' setting.
Is there a heading pointer in the maps app in Tango, like on every other phone. I can't use WP7 as a GPS device because I make wrong turns due to not knowing which way I'm facing on the map in unfamiliar places.
Still need to tap while navigating? Playing with your phone while driving is now illegal here and they can pull you over for it even if you've done nothing else wrong...
Can you send video off the device in eMail or MMS yet?
Is there a URL auto-shortening for SkyDrive links sent yet?

There are 3rd party GPS apps that do that. Same as all other OS's.
See above...
MMS yes, don't know about Email.
::Shrugs:: & don't care. It'll be hard integrated into the OS. Why would you need the URL's?
P.S. Here we go again... ::sigh::

of course but I mean a button not a menu item, like in pre mango. Since there were a lot of complaints about the lack of a tabs button and missing "find on page". I would like to know if users will have to wait for a year for a feature to come back if MS decides to take it out against the will of the public.
About the maps, does it utilize the compass and does rotation now works while walking? Or does it still only works when navigating? This should not require a third party app imo.

The built in app auto rotates the map as you navigate. While walking or driving. This is already in there from Mango.
i'm really not looking forward to tombstoning being back. I wonder if they'll just make it so it's done on devices w/ <=256mb RAM? that'd be fine w/ me... Fast app switching is so freaking handy when doing serious multitasking, i do not want to see it go!

Tombstoning will only happen on devices with 256MB Ram. Other devices will be able to continue to use the regular method of multitasking.

it never left, mango just made it less noticeable.
Apps will tombstone when they are far enough back in the back stack and the phone runs low on memory. So if you have an App consuming the maximum 90 MB allowed on 256 MB devices and it gets pushed back it tombstones immediately when a new App starts.
But if the first App useses only 8 MB and all the others as well you get to start ~ 10 Apps before the first gets thrown out of memory and therefore has to be tombstoned.
On regular devices it is the same but they have more time before they run out of memory (unless there's lots of background tasks consuming memory as well but they are rather limited in that regard (aside from the resource intensive task which only runs while on charging power).

Yes I know, I thought for a second they implemented rotation by the compass in the maps app, without the need to actually navigate, like iOS has. That when you open the app it will rotate in the direction you are pointing it to. Currently the maps app is just static if you dont navigate.
No IE changes?
Multitasking
Does it still have multiple instances of the same app while multitasking? For instance, do the settings still take up multiple windows? It would be great to know that an app I was previously running won't be knocked off the list because the messaging app is open in like 4 different windows.

This is so annoying. It also happens with browser tabs. Open a couple of tabs while browsing and an app gets knocked off the list.

[Q] Offline Running App Support

I am a running enthusiast, but was reluctant to buy a running GPS watch since I wanted to wait until a smartwatch also had GPS functionality.
I have contacted customer support from Google as well as a number of the app developers to figure out which apps support offline (without the phone) support. Unfortunately, I have been getting very uncertain answers. I was wondering if anyone that has a Sony SW3 can comment on this. The app I currently use for running - MapMyRun - I'm pretty sure does not support AW compatibility at all. Can anyone comment on some other running apps like Runtastic, Runkeeper, Endomondo, Strava? Thanks so much!
well we have a thread talking about the only one supporting the offline mode. Runkeeper beta

Yeah, I saw that. I just did not want to know confuse people looking for information about apps besides that one. I'll be sure to keep up to date on that thread for Runkeeper info though.
Ok, at the moment we only now about runkeeper.
I hope my favorite, runtastic, jumps in but since the SW3 is the only one with wear and gps I guess the demand is not very big for this feature.
I hope more official wear watches with GPS will show next year and I'm sure this situation will improve.

Yeah, as much as I want to stay with my app since I've been using it for over a year, I've been waiting a long time to leave my phone at home when I go on runs.
I definitely agree that more watches with GPS will emphasize the importance of these offline apps. As I've said, I emailed pretty much all of the running apps developers. I'll keep this thread updated in case I hear from them.
You can run with MyTracks from google ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=fr ) in waiting for other apps... You can have you time and distance without the phone with you.
May I ask which app you are waiting for? You always could use runkeeper and let it sync to your favorite App.
--> Online tool (Free) https://tapiriik.com/
--> SyncMyTracks App https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.syncmytracks.free&hl=en
Runkeeper is not available to be functional witout the phone... So i'm waiting for update of Runkeeper and Runtastic.
The update of runkeeper in Google play should be very soon, they just added untethered mode (in the beta) without adding any extra features or customization. So not a big update or change to the core of the app.
I didn't realize that you could get the RunKeeper data to transfer to another app. If I could do that for MapMyRun, I may consider it. Thanks for the heads up Basch88.
I also heard from Endomondo, and they said "For now we will wait and see how the smart watch trend develops and then we will consider what to do going forward."
I don't like the response from Endomondo. It's my preferred training app, but guess I'll have to switch to RunKeeper when I get my watch in a few days. Hope the competition release watches with built-in gps soon so the training app developers get going.
Just heard back from Runtastic. This is what they said "Hi Kevin, no unfortunately that is not a feature we offer. You need to have the Runtastic App with you in order to obtain readings on the Smartwatch. At the moment the Sony Smartwatch 3 is not supported. In case you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us!"
I asked if they plan to support the feature, even in beta, at any point. Still waiting for a reply. Also, not sure why they say they don't support the Sony SW3, and yet they support other AW devices. I was pretty sure that the apps and everything would work on all AW devices instead of just a select group.
I got exactly the same reply back from them.
Ive since started using RunKeeper, because at least the support the SW3 (in beta). I purchased Sync My Tracks and transferred them all over from Runtastic to Runkeeper.
They clarified their past statement. They followed up with:
"What we mean to say is that we currently don’t support the ability to use the built-in gps then sync later to your phone – sorry for the misunderstanding. The Runtastic app is already compatible with the Sony Smartwatch 3, but not as a standalone tracker.
You will be pleased to know that tracking with watches built-in GPS then syncing is something we’re highly interested in, and currently looking into! The downside, however, is that’s all we can say at the moment – stay tuned for updates about this though!"
Strava said the following: "Thank you for contacting Strava. At this time, we do not access the GPS in the Sony Smartwatch 3. I apologize for the inconvenience! The best way to share your idea is to post your suggestion in our community forums. We use these forums to consolidate and collect feedback from our community so if there is enough interest, it may be something we put on the roadmap."
So, it looks like Runkeeper is the only one that is willing to openly discuss that they are incorporating offline GPS tracking besides the generic My Tracks and Lifelog. Runtastic may be next up, but they aren't going to officially comment on it yet. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that MapMyRun follows through for me. Though their track record for bringing features to Android is far from stellar.
today i tried my swr50 on the track.. so i used both a mobile with runkeeper( not paired with smartwatch 3 ) and also smartwatch 3 with MY TRACKS!!
GPS on both devices worked well.. the map is accurate on both BUT..
while runkeeper shows 10.01KM smartwatch shows 10.13 km !!!
so it's a bit of difference !!
I did also another thing.. i EXPORTED GPX file from MY TRACKS on Runkeeper web site .. this was a sort of test and also this worked well , which means we can just go jogging with smartwatch and then upload , while we wait for a stand alone app, the file on runkeeper or other services!!
Honestly i'm really satisfy about my smartwatch!!!
i post here the 2 tracks 1 runkeeper ( on the left ) and my tracks on smartwatch second picture!!

Ghostracer
Hi, where are all the strava users out there?
I've been working on a sony smartwatch 3 version of my app for the last few weeks and have just posted the beta to the play store.
The app is on the play store here: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bravetheskies.ghostracer&hl=en_GB
and to sign up for the beta you have to join this google group: plus.google.com/communities/108600094791246159447
The app uploads to strava but you can also export a gpx file.
Smartwatch features include:
Semi customisable display, long clicking brings up a list of fields.
Low power mode where the back light turns off but the app stays on. This is very temperamental, hopefully google will sort this feature out in the next wear update.
Got it, thank you.
As you told me in google +, after joining the community, to become a beta tester we have to follow this link:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.bravetheskies.ghostracer
I'll try to test it yoday.
Just to talk a little bit, why strava is your choice to upload the data? Do you think it is better than the other famous fitness apps?
To summarize how to get the beta app with proper links:
1.- Download the google play app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bravetheskies.ghostracer&hl=en_GB
2.- Join Ghost racer community in G+:
https://plus.google.com/communities/108600094791246159447
3.- Then become betatester:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.bravetheskies.ghostracer
After that the beta is available as an update in google play.
@king conan : The app uses Strava because that's what I use for cycling and I'm a big fan of the segment leadrerboards. I've looked into adding support for other apps in the pasts from users requests but most don't support an open API, unlike Strava.
Thanks for putting the links up, I have not posted enough on the forum to be allowed to add links
Few notes about the smartwatch app:
The speed data field is broken, little error I made in last update. Will be fixed straight away.
You cannot change between Paired and Standalone mode yet. Its always in Standalone mode.
To swipe back up from the settings page you have to touch near the top of the screen and not on the list.

Runkeeper 5.1 Update - full GPS support

FYI - Runkeeper finally went out of beta last night and posted the full 5.1 version with full support for the Sony SW3 with offline GPS support.
Personally, I think Ghostracer is better, but at least there is a major app supporting the watch.
It's not up in every country. (In Spain we still have 5.0.3 in Google Play)...
Can you please post the apk?
Send with Tapatalk on Sony Z2

ok guys.. i tried RUNKEEPER STANDALONE uploaded in " preview" by our friend gs05
so basically it works GREAT... but with few things to set..
FIRST i had all values in MILES(so.. gs05 is from USA and probably that's why) but my mobile is set in KM so it probably had to SYNC with settings on my mobile.. anyway once i uploaded info on mobile they went back to KM.. so it was only on smartwatch 3 in miles !
SECOND i went also with my "second mobile"(not sync with smartwatch) and i had runkeeper over there too
smartwatch gave me almost 200 MT more.. and checking the track i could understand why, it started giving a wrong PATH .. that sort of " v " costed in terms on track 200mt indeed editing that track on runkeeper web i could get exactly the same distance as mobile did get !
Now is weird cause before going i started to use GPS in developers options and i had 17 satellite = i had a great gps just before starting to run..
i post here the 2 pictures so u guys can have an idea .. tomorrow i try to go jogging and use MY TRACKS on smarwatch and Runkeeper on second mobile!

Totally agree that at the start, it acts a little funny. It is as if it is trying to use your steps to figure out what the GPS line should have been while it is fully locking into the satellites. I saw this in the beta and reported it, but they did not fix it.

Runkeeper is a boston based firm, so they most likely did miles first and then will go to KM soon. Didn't even think of that!
Looks like there is a known issue with Runkeeper and Android Wear with respect to km/miles on the wear device:
Can't post the link since I don't normally post here, but the following article on the Runkeeper support site has the details (202830596-Wear-Doesn-t-Respect-unit-preferences).
If RunKeeper on Android Wear is showing your units in miles instead of kilometers or vice versa there is any easy fix to get things back on track! All you will need to do is go into the RunKeeper settings from your phone and toggle the units off and then back on to the desired units. This will force a re-sync with your watch!

Here is a newer version from the playstore...same 5.1, but they updated quickly twice, so perhaps it fixes the sync issues?
Updated from 5.03 to 5.1 today, new version available on the french Play Store.
Just tried this new version with the SW3 GPS
Perfectly functionnal, automatically sync to phone's app at the end.
but... :
- After some seconds, SW3 screen goes from colour to B&W but i'm not sure that the screen is in "transflective mode", ie without any backlight. (battery drain ??)
If i close the app by pushing on the SW3 power button, it didn't stay in transflective mode (time instead) and i needed to reopen the app (with wear mini launcher) to see my distance, speed and time since the start.
- The first 250 meters were lost and not counted for that Run.
It seems that the GPS is not ready when we push the Start Button on the SW3 and it needs some seconds to fix satellites.
Runkeeper should add an icon showing that the GPS Fix is ready and that we can start the run.
Sync problem this morning.
All was fine on the SW3, distance, time, calories... etc...
But when the SW3 has synchronized to the phone App, only the last 560 meters of the run were saved.
Time and calories were correctly synchronized.
All stats are false.
Bummer as the beta was better than that. If you aren't stuck to runkeeper, get ghostracer beta instead, which is strava based.
It is much much better and records perfectly.. Has GPS lock, custom fields, ambient mode, no sync issues, etc. I use it now even after runkeeper beta
See the android dev section in this forum.
:good: now registered to Ghostracer.
Will try it on my next run.
Hey guys where are you finding Ghostracer? I only found Ghost Race in the play store and didn't see anything on google.

Go to this same forum, then to original android deveopment...it has a thread there
With 5.1 sync now works! Did 5k yesterday and it worked good, synced automatically when I got home. Is it possible to change activity from walking to running?
Tried it once. Coming from using Endomondo (that has no standalone watch use until now) it's a pain in the ass to use.
With Runkeeper: No GPS fix indicator at the start. Much worse to read while running. No option to configure displays. Pretty small font size. A bright coloured background make it even harder to read while running. I prefer the dark theme in Endomondo on my watch with huge bright easy to read numbers. After the run the watch showed the run properly compared to my handy tracked runs. But after sync with the phone the half track was "corrected" to a straight line so I had to repair the track in the browser later. Also the first 100m are not tracked. I guess this is then the gps fix is not ready. There's still a lot room to improve and to do before it is usable for daily training.

Google and Facebook infiltrated the Internet.

Interesting how many connections XDA makes, very legit.
I don't see nothing wrong that Google and Facebook is login options. Two of biggest companies what people use these days.
Two of the biggest companies in terms of stealing personal data and seeling it.
Two massive companies that track and spy on your every move.
Not going to lie, you have to be somewhat stupid to use their services, which makes alot of people stupid considering that you are correct, alot of people use it.
LineageOS is focused on privacy, im pretty sure the main reason for majority of xda visitors is to download lineageos for their phone after not finding it on the official site.
A website like XDA that offers privacy operating system should not have ANY contact/interaction with google or facebook, simple as that period.
That's your opinion..

The source code for LineageOS is available on GitHub.
https://github.com/LineageOS
Many Devs use GitHub to build Roms, maybe the Rom you are using right now.
I agree. I never use G and F logins. No G services on my phone, either. Won't stop everything but gets rid of a lot of the tracking.
May I offer a suggestion? I agree with you, the present-day internet has been dominated by big tech and their surveillance. But you will get further by not calling most people who have no idea of the bs going on behind their back, stupid. I don't think XDA is going to change its website for the small number of privacy focused users. Be thankful we can express our opinion and learn about this stuff. Just block G and F, ad and tracking sites on your router or pihole. You might wish to consider giving xda a donation.

XDA seems to have ALOT of connections.
Since this site is mainly focused on mobile operatingsystem with a priority on privacy OS'es, how come that the site itself appears to be in support of tracking/profiling?
Is the money?
What's the history of this forum? At which point was the decision taken to support google and facebook login?

I downloaded LineageOS for my phone from XDA because the official site lineageos.org does not support my phone model.
As many others i use LineageOS for privacy, to avoid the standard OS from Google that is constantly 24/7 tracking my location aswell as basically anything i do on my phone, even facebook was preinstalled and could not be deleted, this is madness, in my opinion companies such as google and facebook are criminal conserind the amount of data/knownledge they collect and share/sell about every single one of us. I do not use a single google services and yet google trys to stalk/track me on websites as this one. Chances are, if a website has a google/facebook login option, that means the site also has google/facebook tracking cookies/ beacons or similar technologies present on that website.
Now is it not ironic considering i came here to download a "privacy" os and even here google and facebook are present...?
I strongly advise against allowing google and facebook to spy on xda's website, no matter how much money is involved, it's simply innapropriate.
If you take a look at the websites statistics, i doubt that many people use google/facebook to login on xda, however some people surely do use these options.
Obviously these people are pretty dumb, considering by logging into XDA with google or facebook you grant google/facebook access to spy on every single thing you do on the XDA website.
Stop feeding criminal companies that have nothing good in their interest with your data, because data = money and money = influence.
You dont want google/facebook to have any influence, they already have enough of that and see what happened with the internet, with censorship, with depression of young people.
Questions is, why does XDA have a login option for google and facebook and github which is owned by microsoft, this is just wrong.

Hate to be the barer of bad news, but no matter where you go on the internet you will be tracked. Google, Facebook, etc aren't the only ones that track/profile you. Yeah, Google is harvesting my data, but at least they provide useful services such as Google Drive, YouTube, Docs, etc. Don't want to be tracked? You'll have to pull the ethernet cable or SIM card out.

The beginning is your internet service provider. They know you best! Then comes everything else.
If you have a land line they know your complete address which Google doesn't know.
The ISP is your primary DNS provider too, they can view all your internet activity in certain cases.
You didn't know that?

I'm aware of that.
I just think it's sad that XDA is a part of the tracking/profiling. If i was a website owner i wouldn't want to do this to my users.
Google is the single one most evil company, they where originally a CIA/NSA project, and no this is not conspiracy.
Ever heared about prism and xkeyscore?
To be honest google and facebook have broken so many laws, tracking minors, tracking without consent, they are making billions with our personal information and it's not just meaningless information because if you combine everything they know about you... it becomes a massive detailed personality profile.
I don't use google chrome, google search, gmail, google android, google drive, youtube, docs or drive but google still tracks me when i visit websites like XDA because someone who has influence over this site, most likely the owner decided to grant them permissions to track and profile users here in return for money (ads).
Why use google chrome when you have librewolf or brave?
Why use google search when there is searX or bravesearch?
Why google drive when you have mega? Mega offers 20 GB for free...
I know pulling the cable is the only way to be 100% sure you ain't tracked expect surveillance cameras with facial recognition, police robots, stores that refuse cash, are a thing now.
I refuse to buy anythin from a store that doesn't want my cash, ridiculous.
Even using linux with librewolf and searX will leave some traces on the internet but it's SO MUCH BETTER than using google. Your digital footprint is minimized and it's worth it.
About youtube, the censorship is EXTREME, heared about the channel "china uncenosred" they make videos about recent events in china, for example when the hongkong freedom protest happened they showed footage (with no violence!!) but the video was still delete by google! I'm saying it, google is evil, most likely internal corrupted.
I do use youtube but not like most people, https://yewtu.be is an instance from https://invidious.io and they have no cookies or tracking, also hosted over a proxy, they access googlevideo.com to share youtube videos, a great way to watch censored videos like the hongkong freedom protest.
Great that you mentioned "sim card out" i want to ask about that, if my phone uses lineageos and has no sim card attached, is geolocation tracking still possible?
I've heared that if you connect to a wifi (without a simcard) even if using a vpn they can still determine your real location and the only way to avoid that is by connecting the phone via ethernet, is that true and how does this work?

The first thing i do after booting is connect to a VPN and i've changed my DNS server to Quad9.
So my internet provider knows nothing about me, unless they're listening to the wire or something..
