Usb jig? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Do usb jigs actually work?
I'm considering getting this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Jig-Don...T989-T-Mobile-Galaxy-Y-GT-S5360-/251078477130
But is there a point to it?

You can make one yourself with a simple usb micro b cable and a resistor, I forget what strength it needs to be, but it's really dead simple to make one of these. And you can basically do the same thing already by holding down Vol+ and - with power during boot up.

For those not technically inclined though this might be a good way to force your SII into ODIN flash mode if you can't get to it other ways. Beware this likely won't work with most cases for the SII.
For the technically inclined (familiar with soldering, wire stripping, etc etc), just make your own.

If I remember correctly, mostly cause I bricked my wife's vibrant is the resistance that is needed is 301k and I didn't have a high jigg though I almost made one

The cheap answer to crappy cables

I see that the answer to a lot of problems is "get a new cable". If you want a good USB cable for your Epic 4G and don't want to pay the outrageous prices at Radio Shack or Best Buy, etc., then get your cable at http://monoprice.com. We're talking under $2 for gold-plated micro USB cables. I bought a handful and they've worked perfectly for me.
No, this is not spam, and I have no connection whatsoever to monoprice.com. Just a happy customer.

It's just an addendum to a common answer. Lots of questions are answered with, "Get a better cable." This is a way to get a better cable without getting ripped off for $20-$30.
If it belongs somewhere else, like accessories, a moderator can feel free to move it.
And there is already a thread, "Monoprice or nothing, " in that section.

I have been using my stock cable that came with my phone since day 1. I have odined atleast 100 times with no fails or soft bricks. I am beginning to believe that samsung fixed their crappy cable issue. I bought my phone last june, so earlier models might have defective cables.

I found it easier to just pick up some Blackberry OEM cables on eBay...
I know everyone hates the stock cable and I expect mine to fail me, but so far I have used nothing but the stock cable and have had no problems! Like I said I have read all the post about get a new cable and when it does not work right I will know why!
I did buy my phone later so maybe they changed something but it is a thin p o s samsung cable!

[Q] Micro-USB port worn out, what should I do?

Well, less than 4 months into owning my Verizon GNex, the Micro-USB port has worn out, rendering it un-chargeable. I'm well out of warranty at this point I suppose so any suggestions as to what I should do?

OK don't solder or weld or do anything else to it!!! send it to warranty threw verison or Samsung, if u do something stupid like solder or weld u will void warranty. Samsung turn round time is a week I've sent in two phones and they completely replaced with fresh new one ( screen issues)
Yeah, you're not out of warranty. Manufacturer warranty on the phone is one year (like pretty much every other OEM). Take it to the nearest Verizon store and they should help you out in replacing it under warranty.

Yea the warranty is a year as long as you haven't done anything like open it up just make sure its 100% stock and call Verizon and tell them. If your account isn't cash only they will send you a new one overnight. If it is cash only you have to go to a store and drop it off maybe 2 or three days later you'll be told to pick up your replacement at the same store. Super easy

AHH, you didn't read the documentation on the device then... if device can even be a good descriptor....
it is not a hub, and has no cables or charging of it's own. it is merely a thing you can run all your cables THROUGH.
it opens, you place the center of the cable in it, and then it holds the cable. it is not a charger, nor it is a hub of any sorts.

I'm on tapa talk so I can't see your sig, but I'm assuming that it says that you need to do a hardware hack.
People unless you see tmobile or t889 it's not going to work. The tmobile version of the note 2 is missing a little chip that allows wireless for some reason. Unless there is a software workaround that hasn't been pushed wireless is a no go.
So if I do the mod, I can just buy one of those $15 coil pads and it'll work for palm pre and Qi chargers or no?

Don't think so. From what I gather, T-Mobile version of note has contacts, but they don't do anything. Wonder if there's a way to go around that. Like solder a wire or something. but I doubt it.

You'll be fine, last time I hold a soldering iron is like 20 years ago, my hand a bit shaky now, and I did it just fine. Just be careful when prying the phone open, there are 2 clips behind the battery spot top and bottom.
hmm
I was tempted to do this. Worried about messing up tho.
I actually just bought an at&t gn2 specifically because of the wireless charging issues on the t889. I'll have to hack it a little, but my understanding is all frewquinciesnshould work just as well as on the T-Mobile gn2.

[Q] Bought a Galaxy S4 Mini - few questions

It won't arrive for a little bit (1saleaday is slow to ship), so I figure I'll ask some questions in the meantime.
Does it support MHL 2.0? I've seen conflicting info, in that some places don't even mention MHL support. And if it's not 2.0, does it require that specific 11-pin Samsung adapter? Selling my HTC One and not sure if I should just include my current 5-pin adapter with it.
Does it work with the Smart Dock like the regular S4 and whatnot? Assuming it works with MHL 2.0, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the Smart Dock.
What kind of sound hardware does it have? I don't suppose its Wolfson...
Does it support exFAT for microSD? I've seen confirmation that it supports 64GB cards at least.
And any idea if it'll have a wireless charging back like for the S4? Don't know if it even supports wireless charging.
I've tried mhl 1.0 and 2.0. Both don't work. Also tried USB OTG also doesn't work.
I have a 64gb micro sd but I can't remember how it's formatted. But definitely works.

Well crap, I was banking on at least regular MHL - are you sure its not the cable you're using (as in, it requires the Samsung specific 11-pin cable)? If not, then I guess GSMarena is wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
I've tried both a cheap one from ebay and the samsung geniune one which works with my normal Galaxy S4 without using the power cable......both cable works on my normal GS4 but it doesn't work on my MIni GS4....i've also tried with or without the power cable attached and still doesn't work.

only the samsung hdmi adapter works with the GS4 mini due to a specific protocol since it is not HML enabled. I know... it sucks, but it has other ways to connect to a TV
