Hey all,
Where can i find the lowest upgrade price for this phone? it is way to high everywhere i have looked. I have a classic plan, not the value plan, so from T-mobile, i would be paying $229 + $50 (rebate). Basically $279 without tax.
Any lower prices out there? if not, i will go with the One S
Hate to say it cause I work for tmo as a sales rep. Lowest upgrade price is at walmart and they usually don't add the req(contracted)/correct data plan especially if you rush them

Same here work for Tmo... Walmart, or Cosco.... I no on wirefly wit new actos fones r cheap Idk if prices r the same wen upgrading.... Also tmo has alot of weird late night offers they give fones for free its weird like at 11 or 12 they have crazy deals

When you get a discount with your upgrade you have to have a contracted data plan. I.e. a required data plan. At walmart I've seen like 90% of our customers who bought their phone at Walmart come to the store because they didn't get the data plan that's required with the upgrade... so we add a non-contracted data plan on (one you can take off the account if you want)
Required data plan (contracted) = a data plan you can not take off for the length of the contract... you can increase or decrease the amount of data you want to purchase (200mb, 2gb, 5gb, 10gb) but you can't remove it completely without breaking contract

don't go to t-mobile stores. Talk to the loyalty/retention department, they usually hook it up when you upgrade/extend your contract. you should not be paying $230+ for this phone with an upgrade because you can find it off CL for about $300-375 (ymmv, friend got one for $310 2 days ago)

i got my sgs2 for 300 on CL this past weekend. mint condition as far as i can tell.
Man you guys are crazy, I work for Costco. I sell it for $179 + tax. No MIR, nothin. You also get a free accessory bundle which includes an extra car/wall charger, leather pouch, screen protectors and data cable. Not to mention a 90 day exchange period with NO restocking fee. If something better drops 2 months from now, you just bring it back and pay the difference. Buying a phone anywhere else is just nuts.

I didnt pay any extra fees she said that she could match the price from best buy mobile. I on a family plan but im not sure which one. Are you sure your up for an upgrade that might me why the price is higher. And i did get the phone from tmobile they are shipping it this saturday. I dont know why they would say 279 unless your 2 years isnt up yet

Please explain how people said to go to Walmart and Costco to get the phone are crazy when you said to go to Costco lol -_-.
In my opinion, it is crazy to spend $200 on a phone with an upgrade that is 7 months old. The price has been free-100 the past couple months with upgrade.
Instead of using your upgrade i would just pay $100 more to have it off contract.

I obviously wasn't talking to the ones who suggested Costco or Walmart.... I'm taking about the ones who go through tmo direct. Even at $199, that costs more, you have no free accessories and only a 14 day exchange period (which also requires that you ship it back to them if you got it from the loyalty dept at that price, plus a restocking fee). I agree with you on the off contract price though. If you get lucky you can get one on CL in the $300-$350 range. If you can swing that, I'd go that route and save your upgrade for a newer phone. We do have the One S at Costco for $189. But I presume a lot of folks would rather wait to see if the SIII makes an appearance on tmo anytime soon.

I got mine for $137 with upgrade through the retention department and they gave me a buy one get one free deal, so the wife is rocking a GS2 as well. No MIR required.
Had a problem with them sending out the wrong color phone so I had to do a mail in return. But, in the process of talking with them and crediting my account for the wrong phone, they accidentally changed my upgrade status and 4 months later I am still showing eligible for a full upgrade.

yeah i would get the one s with the upgrade through costco, and if you don't enjoy it... sell it for more and buy a S2 and have some $ left over.
but yeah, call the retention/loyalty department and see what you can get it probably will be free.

Before finalizing my order through them I even went into the T-Mobile store near me to see if they could match the price or even find anything fishy with the deal that I should be weary of. The salesman looked at his system for a bit and went through the order process on Wirefly with me then said "I'd hate to give business away to another merchant but we can't beat that deal and it looks 100% legit to me. If I were you I would go with that deal also."

I just called T-Mobile and asked why it was $329 when everybody else had it for $199. She said that it just is. I told her that I'd be buying a Galaxy Nexus straight from Google instead of extending my contract. She then transferred me to the "save" department where they instantly quoted me $186 before shipping and taxes. Ended up paying $211 and some change for express shipping and taxes and had the upgrade or activation fee waived.
I called and asked to be transfered to the "loyalty department" ended up paying 300 but they waived my upgrade and shipping fee AND credited my account 200$. Basically only paid 100 for the device

Sounds like there are all sorts of ways to get the S III for $199 or less with T-Mobile. Just have to be smart about it.
Wow Loyalty Department is awesome. I called them up and spoke to a nice guy about my situation. and Got a hell of a deal for a blue 32Gb GS3. I explained to the gentlemen that my wife wants to move to At&t and being with tmobile for 10 years I didn't really want to go but a friend of hers would hook us up with gs3 phones for $150 each and lower a monthly. The customer service was eager to help out to keep us with tmobile. after a few minutes on hold he came back with offering me a blue 32gb SGS3 for $120 and waving the over night charge plus saving me $50 on my monthly bill. also one of my phone are able to still upgrade next month. I'll save that for the next big thing in a few months. I love tmo. they know how to keep me as a valued customer. at the end of the phone call I asked him how soon will I have my new 32GB GS3. he said I should have it tomorrow when I get to work.
I should change my signature now... so happy

Yea t-mobiles been great to me. I have five lines and the next set of full up grades is dec and feb. Well i called tmobile told them to transfer me to customer loyalty. And after a bit of talking with the women ( sounded hot so hot) she said i will give u the s3 for 360 and also got the 50 dollar mail in rebate which is cool so actually paid 310 for phone and it was at my house in 3 days. She just said i see u are a valued customer with 5 lines and always pay your bill sir we want you ro stay . Anyways im happy customer...also even tho she called it an upgrade she said it will not affect my actual upgrade i think because i extended my contract. But thats cool cuz i have been with tmobile forever anyways. So when december comes around i can get whatever is badass at that time

I just signed up for Tmo on July 5th and called them about this code. They said its a student code and wasnt able to apply to my account since I'm not a student. Has anyone else been succesful adding this code to their account?

I think it depends how long you have been with them plus if you pay your bill on time every month and stuff. Little variables cam change the price drastically. Just a thought?

It's the Same department. When you dialing 611 and operator prompts you to select why you are calling just say "Cancel". That connects you directly to them.

When you guys upgraded via retentions, did they make you change your current data plan? I have the grandfathered 5 GB $30 data plan and I don't want to lose it. When I upgrade online it doesn't make me change it but obviously it's a lot more expensive.

It all depends if that plan will still be available with the offer they give you. Just say you wanna keep it and see if they agree.

I was in the same situation. Heidi gave me $5 off my data price per month. I asked her several times if my 5gb status would change and she assured me it would not. Ask nicely.
I walked into a T-Mobile store and the store manager confirmed that tomorrow I will be able to buy my Galaxy Note 2. The store did not have a display model and they only recived 3units for sale. Two of them being white. However, the manager did place the grey model on hold for me for only $5 down. I'm ditching my Galaxy S3. Hope this helps the T-Mobile buyers...

$249.99 on T-Mobile? That must be value plan...the value plan you are buying the phone outright and paying per month. The classic plan is just like all of the other carriers. T-mobile is really pushing their value plans.
Value is better priced any way you look at it.

Phones purchased on value plans will also be blacklisted if you don't pay your bill. There was a big scam a while ago with that. That is why if you purchase a T-Mobile phone second hand, you should call T-mobile with the IMEI to make sure it wasn't purchased on a value plan.
ok so here is my deal. I have the t mobile galaxy s3 which i bought less than 2 weeks ago and now I want the note 2. I paid 470 for the white s3 as it was used but it was very well maintained (looks new). The reason ipaid so much for it was because im not in a contract. Im using simple mobile which basically im getting t-mobile service (yes even 4g 42.2) for 50 bucks a month (minus insurance but even under a contract never bothered as i always got good cases). What would you suggest i do? I was thinking of selling the S3 for 430ish USD and put the rest on a note (hopefully i wont have to pull any more than 100 from pocket). Let me know what do you suggest

I spoke to customer service and the off contract price is $700+. I really don't see a situation where you will be able to come $100 out of pocket and get the Note 2 without signing a contract...

No, I have a full upgrade available. But they didn't have the upgrade price today and told me the retail which was $700 plus tax.
ugh...$700 is a very hard pill to swallow. debating if i should wait it out or pick one up now if thats the price...im not due for an upgrade until next june.

You could always sell the GS3 and come out a little more than $100 out of pocket. If you sell the GS3 for $450, you can get an international note on Ebay for around $550. Pop in a straight talk sim (either AT&T or T-mobile service) and pay $45 a month for unlimited everything.

I was thinking in doing that but the international one doesnt support 42.2 HSPA+ on t mobile. I dont want to go straight talk because it doesnt have the t mobile 3g frequencies (correct me if im wrong) but it definitely doesnt have the 42.2 radio. Right now im getting 18 down and 2 up on simple mobile. If i go at%t, i know my data will only go as far as 5mbps at its best. The radios are the issue. If the international supported 42.2mbps, ill definitely have no problem getting it

Yea, I am not sure about that price. I specifically mentioned that to customer loyalty and they told me it will not be over $400 before rebate...

I was on walmarts site today and they have the note 2 for $249.99 and you get a $100 gift card with it. This is the best deal I've seen for this phone and thought l would share.

There are two "equal" deals . You probably selected 249.99 with new account. There is absolutly the same $249.99 deal for upgrade. Both are sweetened with $100 e-gift card for Walmart today so final price $149.99+tax

According to the fine print it is for new and qualified upgrades. The eGift Card will be mailed out by the second week of January though.
I tried getting att to match the offer but no go. Fortunately I was able to upgrade my line through walmart without ay changes to my family and data plan Total came out at 249 with 100 gift card = price hard to beat. So excited to be a new note 2 owner!

Hope it still is $249 tomorrow. i got mine at best buy today for $299. they won't match the $100 gift card, but I would rather have best buy's black tie protection and i used their buy back program to trade back my Note - got $300 for that
Called ATT for a price match they successfully gave it to me..I already called a week ago and said I seen it at best buy for 199 so they gave me credit for 100 bucks...I read this thread wrong....at first I thought it said 149.00 so I called ATT again Today.and said wallmart has it for 149.00 and a 100 gift card..sure enough I had to speak to a supervisor and got credit for 50 bucks..to equal 149.00 total cost. Then just read this and it said wallmartS price was 249....opps...lmao
So I learned they must not check..because I was wrong and still got the price match..lol.
Went and upgraded both my phone and my son's phones today. Got myself the Note II and my son HTC's One X+. Hell of a deal. Had to order them online since the local stores didn't carry them at all and of course they are both backordered, but at least I didn't have to pay any sales tax since the outfit was out of state. Not bad paying $399.98 total for two top of the line phones and with getting $200 back in gift cards makes it a steal as far as I'm concerned. Will likely have to deal with the typical screw ups of Walmart messing up data plans and such with AT&T next week but that's a small price to pay and one I've never had and issue getting cleared up. I've ordered my phones from Walmart the last several times and they always seem to get something wrong. But they have great prices so I keep going back.
Has anyone received there's yet? I ordered mine on Cyber Monday in the early morning. Still waiting. Getting impatient!!! I want to play!
UPDATE: I received it yesterday (12/6). 1 week and 3 days. I live in Philadelphia if that helps some of you estimate. Wal-Mart made me update my $25 for 2gb plan to $30 for 3 gb. I'm contemplating calling AT&T to have the switch me back. Yeah it's more cost efficient for the 3gb. But I'm always on Wi-Fi and rarely get past 1.2gb. Plus that's still $60 at the end of the year.
My dad bought his last week. Still on backorder.

I canceled my Wal-Mart order and went to Best Buy and got them to price match the Amazon wireless 175.00 price.
I was tired of waiting and 175 was close enough to the Wal-Mart deal for me.

Ordered mine on the 25th in the very early morning hours and still "Awaiting Inventory". Talked to several different people there so far and absolutely no one has any idea when it should be shipping. By calling, however, I did get free next day delivery without even asking. Hopefully we'll hear more soon

Ordered a white Note 2 on 11/26/2012 7:17:23 PM.
Still nothing, despite some completely useless and frustrating calls/chats with customer service who basically told me "we may have some in soon and we may not." Thanks for that hugely insightful info Random Tech Support Guy!
Other Options
Just go order it from Costco or Sams Club. They have no activation fees/ upgrade fees, and you get free accesories.

ordered my white one directly from AT&T on the 27th, they just shipped it today. hold in there, i'm sure walmart will be getting theirs very soon, since AT&T just got their shipment.
Anyone have any issues keeping unlimited data when upgrading through walmart? My dad was told he will lose his and if he has att revert it walmart collections will come after him for the full price of the phone. Anyone ever have an experience like that?

Have your dad talk to AT&T about his plans to purchase the phone through Wal-Mart first so they can make a note on his account about the grandfathered unlimited data plan. Only AT&T can re-enable the grandfathered unlimited data plan. Then, when he goes and picks up/receives his phone, call AT&T before doing anything with the phone. (If he's picking up from Wal-Mart, tell the Wal-Mart rep to not do anything until they call up AT&T to work with them about his grandfathered unlimited data plan.) AT&T will need to know the SIM's numbers and the phone's IMEI. They'll tell him when to put the SIM in and turn the phone on. Make sure he keeps emphasizing to AT&T that he has the grandfathered unlimited data plan.
In fact, like in my case, if your dad hasn't purchased the phone yet, AT&T might even offer to price match Wal-Mart's price, which may be a better option if the Note II is still on backorder at Wal-Mart. AT&T tends to get priority over the retail stores, so they're able to dish out the phone sooner.
I dont see how walmart can come after him for collections if he changes his data plan, they can only come after him if uses a different sim card during the first 6 months after activation, though they send a bill before sending it to collections. They can also hit him with an etf if he cancels his account after the return grace period on top of the etf you will get from att.

While upgrading your phone through walmart, you have the option to keep your existing plan or w/e and keep your unlimited plan, apparently they cannot because they are a third party. I had to talk to att and another walmart rep, downgrade my data plan and it will have to be regrandfathered in later. In all this shipping was delayed once again. You would think with the 2 weeks they have said they have "processed" the purchase, this problem would have came up then instead of right before it is set to ship.
tl;dr don't use walmart, go amazon or straight through att, these people are too retarded to deal with.
Thanks for the replies guys. The reason he went through walmart is because of the $100 gift card offer. I told him there should be no issue reverting the plan if it does get changed and that's when he told me about walmart collections thing. But I'll pass this great info into him.

Well, if he's locked in on the order, he can call AT&T and alert them of the situation. Again, I advise he heavily emphasize he has the grandfathered plan. They need to leave a note on his account about it. geishroy described the process rather well, but AT&T must be aware of it. Most third party retailers don't know this. When I was about to place an order with Best Buy for my phone, I had to stop to verify with AT&T about my grandfathered data plan and that's when the AT&T rep offered me the price match. This will be a good learning experience for the Wal-Mart rep. Good luck.

It sounds like just a cheap sales tactic that particular rep developed. It's never good to lie to your customers. And if AT&T catches wind of this, the rep's store might be in trouble with AT&T for false claims.
