[Guide] Going From Stock to CM9 (Or somewhere in between)

***Warning, this will void your phone's warranty, may make it a brick, could make your kitten cry, etc... I am not responsible if anything goes wrong.***
I put this together for a friend and thought I would share on XDA. I am not a developer or expert by any means. If you have any issues with what you find here, please comment and I (or others) will try to help. I will update this as we go depending on everyone's experience. You may not need all sections, but use the one's you want.
This if for the p930 model only. I am not familiar with ways to do this on other models.
Read EVERYTHING and make sure you follow the directions.
Rooting the phone (which is required to do everything nefarious/fun with your phone):
Download the super one click program to your computer (home one) to root the phone. It will probably be blocked at work. http://depositfiles.com/files/n0dcxce3t
Download and install the LG drivers on your computer. http://s3.amazonaws.com/lgforum.com/resources/assets/680/original/LGP930.zip?1322664514
If installing SuperOneClick on Windows XP, make sure the .NET Framework v2.0 or above is installed. Windows Vista or 7 is fine.
Enable USB Debugging mode on your Android: Tap Menu > Settings > Applications > Development. Then enable USB debugging.
Verify that your SD card is not mounted: Tap Menu > SD Card & Phone Storage, and tap Unmount SD Card.
Allow install from Unknown Sources: Tap Menu > Security > check Unknown Sources.
Once downloaded, unzip the folder and run SuperOneClick.exe.
Then plug your Android into the computer via the USB cable that came with the phone.
Finally, click the Root button on SuperOneClick. Let it do its thing. If it doesn’t work, try it again. Might take a couple of tries.
Installing the Clockwork Mod Recovery Program (which lets you load the ICS ROM/software/backup/restore/other cool things):
Go to the Market/Play Store on the phone and download/install “ROM Manager” (just the free version is fine).
Open the app and choose “Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery”
Choose your device type “ATT Nitro HD/p930” and let it happen.
Downloading the ICS Software/ROM and Google Apps Zip File:
Then, in the phone’s browser, go to http://get.cm/?device=p930 and download the latest “nightly” file to the SD card. Just click on the blue link and it should start automatically.
Download this file (it’s the Google apps for the phone) http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
Let both finish downloading.
Installing the ICS software/ROM and Google apps zip:
Open ROM Manager and choose Reboot Into Recovery. Your phone will restart to recovery mode. You use volume up/down to navigate and power to select options.
Choose “Backup and Restore” then “Backup” This will make a complete backup of your phone in case something ever goes wrong. You can use the restore option to restore it.
After the backup is complete, “choose wipe data/factory reset” then “Yes – Delete all user data” (This will wipe the phone).
Then choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip form sd card > Download/
Select the “update – cm 9 file, then choose the “Yes” option again.
Repeat 4 and 5 except choose the gapps file instead of the update – cm9 file in step 5.
Choose “reboot system now” wait for it to boot and you have ICS…
Walk through the steps to set up the phone and enjoy.
Getting updates:
Check back at http://get.cm/?device=p930 for new updates.
Download the new file and install it following steps 1-5 and 7 (you don’t need to reinstall the gapps again or wipe cache/dalvik unless directed to).
You can also get ROM Manager Premium and choose “Check for ROM Updates” vs. downloading.
Optional Stuff:
You can use titanium backup to backup your apps.
Don't restore system apps and restoring missing apps in general can cause problems. It's best to let the market reinstall or manually do it.

Just an add on the Rooting point #5:
I don't know if other people experienced the same thing, but after choosing USB debugging, the phone defaulted to "PC Software" when plugging the cable in, making it impossible to unmount the SD card.
The rooting process worked all the same though.

Thanks a lot !!!but if i want to go to original status from cm9 when i have Flashed Clockwork Mod Recovery,how i should do, because i find it can't update over the air though i have restored the system by rom manager...

You would use adb to flash original recovery partition image and then unroot with SuperOneClick. It's dangerous going completely stock for an update because you stand a good chance of being locked out of root for a long time.

What is the proper selection? I can't remember...

Agreed. What are you trying to get out of the update? I don't think kernelpanic is worried about getting the update and incorporating into his ROM since CM 9 is out.

I believe it has to choose one, it can't be in mass storage mode and pc software mode at the same time when it's connected.

Thank you sir !The problem is that i forgot to backup the orignal recovery .i searched it in the forum,but i don't know which is the orignal recovery of nitro hd ,may be a korea edition.
The Kernelpan1c is good ,but i don't like go launcher,because touching the screen sometimes drifts to the bottom,and it never occur by the orignal starter.however,the new update on kernelpan1c or cm9 is worth waiting.

You can easily change the launcher. Just go to tbe market. Try zeam.

I believe it would be charge only. I am also not sure since I haven't used the stock ROM in a little while. But by enabling USB debugging, it goes straight to PC Software when you plug it in (and this can't be changed), which doesn't allow to unmount the SD card.
Note that this is on the Optimus LTE, perhaps it is different on the Nitro.

i'm currently running the stock rom. the proper selection is pc storage, there is no need to unmount the sd card to root although you can unmount it, you just have to do it prior to plugging the device into the computer.

if I already have CM9 and wish to move the next nightly build.
do I have to wipe everything by

[HOW TO] Unlock bootloader, Root, Flash Custom ROM, Flash Kernel And More!

Post 1: How to unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery and root
Post 2: How to flash a custom ROM and kernel (boot.img)
Post 3: How to reverse everything and go back to stock
Post 4: How to ADB Sideload a ROM
Alright. This is for everyone who wants to root their phone. I've seen MULTIPLE threads of the same question "Can I root my phone and How do I do it". So I hope I never have to see it again! In this tutorial, I use use my toolkit as the way to root. Doing it manually takes forever and that is why I made my toolkit.
Requirements:
HTC One X (charged to at least 70%)
Windows XP,Vista,7 (8 is not officially supported since I don't have the drivers)
USB cable
Ability to read and follow step-by-step
Understanding that I am no way guaranteeing anything. If you screw up your phone, you probably didn't follow my steps and made a foolish mistake.
Let's begin.
Download my toolkit from here.
Link 1 and Link 2
Extract the FOLDER to your C: drive or to your desktop.
MAKE SURE YOUR DIRECTORY DOES NOT HAVE A PERIOD OR SPACE.
Open One X.exe
So now you have my program open. Great.
On your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
From my toolkit, Click 1. Install HTC Drivers.
After the drivers install, restart your computer.
After your computer loads up, open my toolkit and connect your phone to the computer. Your phone should now be recognized.
Now, click 2. Register at HTCDev. Register with a VALID email address and LEAVE the web browser open.
Now, under the commands section of my toolkit, press Boot into Bootloader.
You should have a nice, white, shiny screen that says FASTBOOT USB.
Click 3. Get Token ID. Look at the pop up and it will tell you how to get the Token ID.
Highlight where it says < < < < Identifier Token Start > > > > all the way to < < < < < Identifier Token End > > > > > and right click and it will automatically copy it.
Now, click Submit Token ID. Your web browser should now open a new tab. Scroll down and in the empty box, paste your Token ID. Press submit. HTCDev now emailed you your unlock token.
Your phone should still be in the bootloader. Now, go to the email address you registered to HTCDev and DOWNLOAD your unlock_code.bin. Press 5. Unlock Bootloader. Locate your unlock_code.bin and it will flash it to your phone.
READ the warning. THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA FROM THE PHONE.
When you agree to it, press the volume up button and press the power button to accept it. Your phone will now restart.
When your phone loads up, go through the set up wizard. Then, on your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
Under the Extras section, press Perm Root. It will push SuperSU.zip to your phone.
Under commands, press Boot into Bootloader once again.
Now, it is time to flash a recovery.
TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a custom recovery that will allow you to flash custom ROMs, Mods, etc.
CWM (ClockWorkMod) is a custom recovery that will allow you to flash custom ROMs, Mods, etc.
I recommend TWRP and we will use it for this tutorial,
Select TWRP and press Flash Recovery.
After it flashes, remove the USB cable and have HBOOT selected in bootloader. Press the power button and it will reload to another screen. Press the Volume Down button until you get to Recovery. Press the power button to select it.
Go to Backup and back up your boot and system partition. Always have a back up before you flash or do anything.
After that, go to Install and locate SuperSU.zip. Click it and slide the screen on the bottom to flash it. After it flashes, reboot the phone.
In your app drawer (your menu with all the apps), open SuperSU. If it says the binary needs to be updated, then update it. If it doesn't, then you are fully rooted!

Post 2: How to flash a custom ROM and kernel (boot.img)
The fun part! Now, I will teach you how to flash a ROM and boot.img
Find a ROM you like, the first thing you should do is make sure it is COMPATIBLE with your phone. If you find a ROM that is for AT&T (Evita) and you have the International model (Tegra3), don't be an idiot and flash it. I will not help you with that since you already agreed to my warning from the first post.
International models won't work on an AT&T HOX and Vice Versa.
Also, DO NOT ASK IF YOU CAN FLASH A ROM FROM ANOTHER DEVICE!
Will it work? NO! Will it ever work? NO! Can I flash it anyways? Brick your device, I don't care. I warned you.
Let's get back on task. So you found the ROM you want to try, so go ahead and download it. KEEP THE THREAD OPEN! MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING AND REREAD IT AGAIN! READ WHAT USERS SAID ABOUT IT AND ABOUT BUGS! GO AHEAD AND READ THE WHOLE ENTIRE THREAD! GAIN KNOWLEDGE!!
Connect your USB cable to your phone. View the folders on your phone. I like to make a folder called ROMs on my phone and transfer it in there.
After you transfer it, open my toolkit and press Boot into Recovery. When you are in TWRP, MAKE A BACKUP!!!
After you make a backup AKA a Nandroid, click Wipe. Wipe Cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset and System. NOTHING ELSE! If you click anything else, IT WILL WIPE YOUR SD CARD AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE ISSUES ON YOUR HEAD!
So you wiped everything. Great. Your phone is ROMless, Yay!
Now go back and press install. Go to the folder where the ROM you downloaded, is located in. Select the ROM and slide the screen to flash it. After it flashes, press the back button. Press Reboot and Reboot into bootloader. Open the ROM you downloaded from your computer. You should see boot.img. Extract it to your computer. Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
After it flashes, press reboot from the phone.
Congrats! Enjoy your fully working or borked ROM! Remember, DO NOT ASK FOR ETAs, DO NOT BUG/PM A DEV ABOUT UPDATES, and BE RESPECTFUL TO THE DEVELOPERS!

Post 3: How to reverse everything and go back to stock
Now, let's talk about getting back to stock. There are 2 ways to do this.
1. Flash the stock RUU (If available) (Recommended)
2. Restore your Nandroid (backup that I told you to make earlier)
1. I'll talk about flashing the stock RUU first.
Go here and download the RUU.

Download the correct RUU for your phone.
Now, back up all your data (pictures, contacts, etc) since this will put your phone back to complete stock.
Connect the USB cable to your phone. Press Boot into Bootloader.
It should now say FASTBOOT USB on your screen.
Press Relock bootloader. It may give you a security warning error or it may say failed. Who cares, ignore it. It's normal.
Your phone will boot up normally.
When the phone is fully loaded. Unplug and replug the USB cable back in the phone. Now,run the RUU you downloaded and follow the instructions.
Your phone will be back to stock.
2. Now, we will talk about restoring your nandroid backup.
Connect your phone to the computer. Open up the folder to view the files on your phone.
From your computer, Go to TWRP -> BACKUPS -> (Your hardware Serial Number) -> (Folder you wish to restore to) -> and copy boot.emmc.win to your computer. Rename boot..emmc.win to boot.img
Open my toolkit and press boot into recovery.
Click Wipe. Wipe Cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset and System. NOTHING ELSE! If you click anything else, IT WILL WIPE YOUR SD CARD AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE ISSUES ON YOUR HEAD!
Press back and press Restore. Choose the backup to restore to.
After it finishes, press the back button. Press Reboot and select bootloader.
Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
You are now back to your stock Nandroid.

4. How to use ADB Sideload
You may have seen what ADB Sideload around the forums but have no idea what it is. Since the HOX does not have an SD card, it makes things harder when you have to flash a ROM.
Here's a scenario when we need to use ADB Sideload.
1. You accidentally wiped your internal SD and have no ROM on your phone
2. You wiped your ROM and forgot to transfer a custom ROM/have no backups(Nandroid) available.
3, You have none of the above and there is no available RUU for your phone. <----- This is a real bummer.
Here are the steps to load on a ROM
I placed TWRP in my toolkit for a reason. CWM does not support ADB Sideload (as far as I know) and TWRP does.
Boot into recovery manually. Turn your device off and hold the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button together until the BOOTLOADER pops up. Press the VOLUME DOWN button until you have selected RECOVERY. Press the POWER button to get into RECOVERY.
Connect the USB Cable to your phone and computer.
In TWRP, click "Advanced" and select ADB Sideload.
Download a ROM to your computer (if you haven't already done so). Rename it as one word. For example CM10.zip, QX.zip, ARHD.zip, etc.
In my toolkit, under the extras section, press ADB Sideload a ROM. Press "Yes" when it asks you if you are in recovery. Then select the ROM you want to install. It will then sideload it to your phone and flash it.
After it finishes, press the back button. Press Reboot and select bootloader.
Pull the boot.img from the zip file and extract it.
Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
You now have a ROM on your phone!

1 more, just in case.

You won't be able to get official OTA updates after you have flashed a custom rom.
My experience is that even rooting is tricky for official Firmware upgrades.
Even tough there are some ROM's on XDA that have OTA support!

When you say THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA FROM THE PHONE in post 1, does that include sdcard data, photos, music etc?

Since USB mass storage is not available, I've tried using android file transfer to backup my files before unlocking boot loader. Its not working though. Any way to do this?

i have an htc one x running jelly bean 4.1.1 and i rooted it ...everything worked finee ... until i installed an app from the play store called font installer after i installed it i changed the font and installed the font ... the notification bar was gone ... i was able to use the device but without the notification bar so i turned it off and on again ... and i get stuck on the htc one logo ... Hey guys im trying to root my device so i can install some lightweight custom roms. Ive been following this guide i found online

Find the recovery image file which is clockworkmod.tar
On your Samsung Galaxy S3 I747, press and hold down the volume down, power, and home buttons
Once your at the warning screen, press volume up to accept
Launch the Odin program from your computer
In Odin, find the PDA tab and click it
Find the clockworkmod.tar.md5 file in the unzipped recovery image file
Press start to begin flashing the recovery mod
BE PATIENT! and wait until your device reboots
Once your device has fully rebooted, you can start installing root
It loaded on the phone fine. I then did this
Installing Root
Transfer the root.zip file onto your phone from your computer
Make sure you connect your s3 to your computer and find the root zip file and put it in your downloads folder.
Enter clockwork recover mod by holding down the volume up, power, and home buttons
Navigate by using the volume buttons to Install Zip > Choose Zip from Internal SD card > Navigate to the downloads folder> Select
Be Patient! and wait until your device is finished
Once the process is finished, you can select Reboot
Once your device has rebooted, launch the Google Play Store app
Search “SuperuserSU” and select the first app that shows in the search results
Install this app
Once it has finished installing, your done!
The only problem is I cant navigate to the option "install zip from internal sd card" I simply dont have though's options here is what I have when hold volume up reset and home
"reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage (which i dont have)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
When i hit apply update from ADB it says "now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename>"...
Im wondering if the original flash didnt go thru? Why dont I have the options that I should?
Any help would mean the world trying to get this puppy up asap!

Sounds like the root method you are using is just way to complicated. Follow this one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 it has prerooted firmwares that you just install with odin and you are done (cwm included). Just make sure you grab the right firmware for your carrier.
If I have helped you out, slap that thanks button.

Beauty I think its flashing the rogers rom to my phone from there Im good to load other roms using this odin tool? (or is it rom manager?)
also what is this clockwork mod ? I might as well go into play store and get both rom manager and clockwork?

So After I flashed the new rom to my phone i left it plugged in and it restarted. Android loader popped on and now it says android is upgrading... starting apps. Its been like this for over a half an hour... what do i do??? helpppp dont really want to reset it but it is bricked? or do i have to reload ?
update:
held the restart button down it restarted bit is still stuck on starting apps.
update two:
held vol down home and reset tried to reload the rogers rom onto the phone and now it stops at samsung load screen. Do i have to reload the carrier that came with the phone? I cant quite remember what the original carrier was.
UPDATE THREE:
I as able to boot back into the phone but...nothing changed? i ended up wiping the phones data in settings because its too full as it is. I downloaded root checker and it said access was denied ? That makes its not rooted after all... I followed the directions seems that they didnt take? Any clues?

Okay buddy looks like you need to learn some basic android 101
You are definitely not ready to root or do anything til you learn this stuff...
Okay, so first is recoveries. Basically recoveries are a bit of software that let's you flash ROMs, kernels, and whatever else to your phone. When you hold volume up and power when your phone is off, you boot to recovery. Now basically recoveries are necessary because when you are flashing a new ROM it essentially deletes the android system from your phone first so this is a way of your phone still working between flashes.
Clockworkmod is a custom recovery with a lot of features meant for flashing ROMs. There are competitors such as TWRP (team win recovery project) but clockworkmod is a great starter. Use videos or tutorials on how to use it before you flash your first ROM. I can not stress how often you need to read read and read some more.
Okay so rooting your phone. Basically there is a "root" directory of your phone. Its where all the system files are stored and it let's you do a lot of stuff, but it also means you can screw a lot of stuff up to (like really screw it up). On default you are locked out of here by the maker of your phone for various reasons. Rooting means that someone found an exploit to gain access to this folder. Usually what you then do is you find a way to inject superuser (a little app that gives root access to other apps later on). You use Odin in this case to install a stock Samsung rom (with superuser already put in the root directory of that modified ROM its installing) essentially this means you have root. Root allows you to install recoveries like clockworkmod (which you need to flash ROMs later.
Okay so that was my quick run through. At your point you need to go to YouTube and Google how to root the sgs3 and hopefully they should have one for your specific carrier. The process should be the same minus the files you flash. Essentially you should be looking for stock ROM (for your specific device) with superuser or supersu already installed. Then you should be finding a way to install clockworkmod once you have root. (You may be able to find a file or tutorial that does this in one go). I cannot emphasise enough about reading. You wouldn't be here had you read first and in the flashing business, if you don't want a sgs3 paper weight you should read first.
Oh and ROMmanager from the marketplace installs clockworkmod for you (ONCE YOU HAVE ROOT) its simple. Just download it from the play story. Click flash recovery. It will load a bit and your done. Then you can reboot into it. ROM manager (the paid version is unnecessary) it just adds extra features you don't yet need. Look at it once you have flashed your first few ROMs.

Navigate by using the volume buttons to Install Zip > Choose Zip from Internal SD card > Navigate to the downloads folder> Select
Be Patient! and wait until your device is finished
Once the process is finished, you can select Reboot
Once your device has rebooted, launch the Google Play Store app
Search “SuperuserSU” and select the first app that shows in the search results
Install this app
Once it has finished installing, your done!
The only problem is I cant navigate to the option "install zip from internal sd card" I simply dont have though's options here is what I have when hold volume up reset and home
"reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage (which i dont have)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
When i hit apply update from ADB it says "now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename>"...
Im wondering if the original flash didnt go thru? Why dont I have the options that I should?
Any help would mean the world trying to get this puppy up asap!

Hi eddy,
It sounds like you didn't get CWM to stick after your flash with ODIN. You need to uncheck the reboot option in odin and then after the flash is done pull the battery and go directly into CWM loader by booting with the volume up + power + home button method. This will give you cwm rather than the stock loader you seem to be trying to use. You're almost there!

I think he can't install the superuser.zip from cwm after boot because he's allowing the stock rom to overwrite his cwm flash ... he's gotta pull his battery after the odin flash to get root in. That's what worked for me. once he's got root he can use rom manager to upgrade to cwm 6.x

He shouldn't need cwm to install. If flashes a firmware with root already injected he can then just use rom manager to install clockworkmod for the first time since rom manager just needs root which he will have. You can root and keep the stock recovery on at the same time
I think his biggest issue is root not sticking. Til he does that cwm wont install

Stuck on Asus load screen

After a update for better compatibility for 3rd party app, my Zenfone wont get past the ASUS screen at all.

Im also stuck at the asus load screen. I played around with the permissions of the sd card, after rebooting its stuck. Guys how to unbrick?

1) read up how to access to Temp CWM
2) download and transfer the full rom to your SD card
3) do a wipe all partition and go to advanced setting, wipe cache
4) install zip and choose from external SD, point to that .zip file for the full rom and apply.
5) installation may take 10min or so do not switch it off. after installation you are good as new.
I believe this should solve your problem, normal if things get bricked is due to config file error could be [syntax, corrupted, missing, setting].
Flashing should solve mostly of it unless the file that you previously accessed require root and cwm does not give permission to the file. that is a permanent bricking.
As always, newbie should not try tweaking permission required files, you end up having bricking the device as there might be no solution to recover it due to access rights. ALWAYS have a back up file so you can at least copy the file back and chmod it.

my problem right now is my pc wont detect my phone. Ive already installed the drivers.

Same thing happened to me when I tried flashing the OTA update with my phone being rooted. You have get into recovery mode on the phone and then use ADB to put the original image back to the device to get it back to stock so it will reboot. It worked for me

then try my method of flashing it back to original state, you stated that adb dont work, have you tried the temp CWM method yet?
the main goal is to wipe dalvik cache under advanced menu in CWM, and cache partition and all hard reset.
then you flash back your original file.

ive read about the temp cmw method and i cant figure out how to go about it. it says on the instruction that you need to turn on phone before running the cai_dat_CWM. how am i going to do this as my phone will only boot to the asus logo? thanks

just figured it out. I need to boot in fastboot so the phone will get recognized. However, the latest build available on the asus website is still 2.17.40.12. I already have the 2.18.40.12 version. The 2.17 firmware can't overwrite the newer build in temp CWM recovery. Anybody knows where i can download the full rom? Z00A-WW-2.18.40.12?

here is the link for stock but pre-rooted img for latest 2.18.40.12 firmware,,make sure to download Z00A firmware if you have ZE551ML device.. and if I was not mistaken, you may choose to FULL UNROOT in SuperSU apps to go back to stock rom..

Press Power+Volume Up key, After vibration leave Power Button then choose Recovery Mode using Volume keys, if sleeping Android screen appear at Recovery with Error message, Press Volume Up and Power and leave immediately Power Key, it will show you the Recovery Menu, then Reset your device, it will solve your problem.

I already tried it like 20 or more times. The ASUS logo still shown for like 10 seconds and died and came back again (ASUS logo). When I tried to connect it with my laptop, the computer won't recognize the device.

I will try to tell you step by step:
1. Press Power Button + Volume Button
You enter into Recovery Fastboot Option, then Choose Recovery menu using Volume Key (3 Option mostly shown)
then press Power Button (From Recovery Mode), it restart.
2. Then after Restart it shows you (Mostly) Sleeping Android Screen with Error text, then Press First Volume Up Button, and Press Power Button (Power button for a second or two then leave it, IF YOU PRESS MORE TIME, IT WILL RESTART THE PHONE).
3. You can now see the Recovery Menu with Normally appear in other phones also - Reset, Restart, Etc Option.
Hope you will now able to reset your phone...

[Problem] Bootloop "Your Device is corrupt." Can't access recovery.

Woke up to my phone turned off and upon turning it on showing the Your Device is corrupt error and after 30 seconds a reboot happens automatically. I remember I had a "low disk space" alert for a few days. I think there is absolutely no free disc space. I can't access recovery as when I hold down any buttons it turns on and quickly shuts down within 1 second upon the first screen showing.
Don't know what to do. I had many important files on it as well.
Any tips would be massively appreciated.

Factory reset is the only option!!
connect your phone to pc in normal charging mode and then try booting to recovery mode (power&vol+), you should be able to boot to recovery.
you will loose all your data.

Sadly this is clearly not working. There is quite a few posts on the nokia forum relating to this and the android 10 update bricking the device. But so far there is no solution and as well as that, the recovery mode is not available.
There appears to be some opportunists on youtube that are exploiting this to profit to fix the device, but that is no real help.
So I'm also in the club of a bricked Nokia (well its my mothers phone) that has remained stock the entire time. (it's a good thing I kept my Nexus 4!)

Try booting in fastboot .
Poweroff your phone .
Connect to pc .
Press (vol- & power) until the logo appears with a little fastboot written in left bottom.
If you are able to boot into fastboot then tell me I will give you the solution.

Yeah, it's refusing to go into fastboot, just keeps going in a cycle back to the corrupt error again

Yeah, thats when it goes into cycle even more so, android one screen comes up, quick flash of the corrupt error, then it starts again.

Hello i had the same problem , i recovered my 5.1 plus this worked for me maybe it works for you too.
First download sp flash tool and firmware file i have 5.1 plus world wide version and dowload the image PDA-209B-0-00WW-B06 for x5 use the image with cn not ww.
Unzip flash tool and the image PDA-209B-0-00WW-B06.
Run sp flash tool load the scatter file from the image, then unthick the box sutinfo, systeminfo_a & cda_a and hit dowload, conect youre phone holding volume up and down until it starts download.
Wait until it finish and the green box wit ok appears. Now the phone will start and after android one logo,the robot image and no comand will show up, click power button then quick on volume up and recovery menu shows.
Now you need a micro sd card and OTA update file download the Android 10 Update (V3.11A) : ace851ea59294177f677018648d6c0614317510e.zip.
Copy the zip file on the micro sd then insert it on the phone. From the recovery menu choose update from sd card then select : ace851ea59294177f677018648d6c0614317510e.zip
The update will start wait untill recovery says succesful it will take some time be patient. After that reboot all done youre device should work. Its my first post i cant post links sorry the sistem wont let me.

Hey folks!
Let me share what worked for me when I solved this issue on a friend's phone.
This guide is dependent on you being able to boot into recovery mode - the screen with the green android robot laying down with a red exclamation mark on top of it.
We'll use recovery mode to sideload an OTA image to the device. Go to the Nokia OTA repository on telegram (search for Nokia OTA repository). Once there search for Nokia 5.1 plus and from the search results look for a full Android 10 OTA image with the April security patch (sorry, can't post links - should be 1.23 GB). Download that file and move it to the root directory on your SD card and then insert your SD card into your device.
Now, boot into recovery mode on your device (there's a key combination that will get you there but I'm not exactly sure what it is - try Power + Volume Up or Power + Volume Down). Once you get to the recovery mode screen, press Power and Volume Up to load the recovery menu. You'll see a bunch of options listed there - the one we're keen on is 'Install zip from SD Card'. Scroll down using the Volume Down button until you get to that option and then press the Power button to select it. You should then be able to select the zip file you downloaded earlier from your SD card. The process should then take a few minutes to complete. If all goes well, you can now reboot your device and Profit!

Readback is the most important step when you are flashing stock rom .. it backups all the partitions in a single file which you can use to restore if something goes wrong .. many users have faced issues because they didn't do the readback process . You can check out the guide for downgrade and there is nothing to search about .. if you can access recovery/fastboot then it's very easy to restore . If you can't you will have to flash the stock rom . You can check the guide in Guides thread. You just got lucky .if something went wrong you would have end up bricked up your device bad.

Ok , did not know that, ill remember next time if i have same problem. Thank you. Indeed i had no way to enter recovery menu and when trying to flash i got errors the only way i could suucesfuly flash the rom was unticking those 3 boxes , after that the phone entered in recovery but it wasnt able to start normaly it bootloped to the robot with no comand ,so i had to use update from sd because sideload didnt work.
