Stop the weekly Update on RT - Windows RT General

I have recently jailbrocken my Surface RT and now i am afraid that one of the next updates will cloes the hole that makes the jailbreak posible.
So what if i could manage to stop the updates ? On Windows 8 (Pro) this is easy to do in the Settings.
But this option is disabled in the Settings of the surface.
Does anybody know how to do that ?
Maybe make them accessable ober the grouppolicy or something like that.
it would be pretty sad if the next update ends the upcoming comunity porting RT Apps

So fire up regedit, go to
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update
and set the DWORD AUOptions to 0x00000000.
Only do this if you want to run unsigned apps!
[/QUOTE]
I navigated to this position in regedit and the key was already setted to 0x00000000
Might that be caused by the jailbreak tool published by netham45?

Yes, maybe. Hell, I'm still living in stone age!
great now its possible to make games like this
with windows phone 7 games like resident evil, call of duty, or even halo will be easier to make I hope. This screen shot of halo in touchpro2 and I feel windows mobile7 will feature even better graphics
I finally managed to install it. Tried out the sample applications. Tried out creating a new Silverlight project. Standard application and then the dialog within studio can't be displayed, some exception but no clue what's wrong, I didn't change anything either. Strange thing is I can still build and run it. The list application is working in designer however when I was running it the crap was crashing when moving around from one page to another too quick or whatever the matter. Secure programming I see it!

[PORT] Opera Mini for WP7 - for fully unlocked devices [Dec 25 update]

Opera Mini for Windows Phone 7
FOR FULLY UNLOCKED ROMS ONLY
First of all, I am not an author of Opera. That's Opera Software ASA property. I am only the author of this xap wrapper and related proxy libraries.
Xap or any parts of it cannot be sold.
Current version of launcher is 1.2 (it is the same in both Mobile and Mini).
What's new?
Application window gets recreated on the startup if Opera was already opened.
Got rid of WindowTreeUpdater, now using system functions directly.
Font smoothing
Removed some unneeded system calls.
Now timeout is 3 seconds.
Rotation support wasn't implemented in this version. Windows Phone 7 API doesn't support it in fully native apps.
Q&A
What is it?
That's Opera Mini 5.1 initially built for Windows Mobile. I've just added an extra layer that makes it running.
The only limitation so far is no rotation support - but this limitation will be deleted in future.
Why does it only work on fully unlocked ROMs (like DFT Freedom)? Isn't developer/interop unlock enough to run it?
Developer unlock will let you install xap. Interop unlock will let inbuilt interop library work. Full unlock will let Opera native exe run.
That means, nothing except Full unlock will help you run it. Don't ask me about other unlock methods, that's not something to discuss in this thread.
Which ROMs should I use?
All ROMs that use DFT-like unlock method. I say "like" because there are some other methods, I can't list them all. I can't tell you "Yes, it will work on this rom" or opposite, just test it and leave a note if you want.
Is Opera Mobile port possible in future?
Yes, already done
What's countdown made for?
Press "Stop" and check.
When I press "Stop", there is a "Delete internal opera folders" button. Why is it here? I can delete this app like any other WP application...
The reason is that Opera launcher goes beyond the standard isolated store. For example, it creates \Program Files\Opera Mini folder. Also it adds some absent libraries to \Windows\.
If you delete Opera launcher "like any other WP application", folders beyond the sandbox will still stay there. So, use "Delete internal Opera folders" button wisely
I have problems with starting it up...
If it Opera launcher's window doesn't appear at all, it means you have no interopunlock.
If it throws an error with "Check your unlock state" in the end, it means your unlock isn't enough for running native executables/copying files.
Anyway, you shouldn't post about it here. I will ignore such comments.
Thanks to AndrewSh and feropont for tests.
1.0 download count: 7090.
Opera Mobile is discussed here

Wanna add that this "good job" works on both our (feropont and my) fully unlocked customs w/o issues....
Confirmed working on my HD7 running the latest DFT rom ! Thx a lot.
As mentioned before on other devices without custom rom (like my OMNIA 7) it throws an error after launching... sad but true...
great working on, htc trophy with dft freedom 2
hope you will be able to port opera mobile
really works
thanks mate for hard work
thanks. great work ultrashot.
Not working in my mozart with DFT rom v3(7740.16).!!!!
also show this error: "Check your unlock state". and close it.
Doesn't work on my Omnia 7 with Interop Unlock (7740)
"A problem occured while creating new process. Check your unlock state."

Sounds superb. In fact, the lack of landscape support is a blessing in disguise for me as I get irritated when the screen rotates when I lie down and browse.
I will have to wait for DFT Focus ROM though, if I want to deploy this app.
Nice work, Amigo
Great job.
I was wandering, is your method could be applied to other native Windows Mobile apps to make them work on Windows Phone?
its very nice and big work
if you can port other program to windows phone its very good
program like proxycap and tcpmp in very Required in windows phone
great work
works like a charm here. Lack for landscape-autorotation is a feature for me, not a missing one
just 3 questions:
are there any other "simple" programs which dont have lots of "dependencies" which could be ported this way?
Is it possible to make it start instantly. not by a countdown?
Can there be a task added? I mean at the moment I dont see it in the built-in mutlitask-switcher...
I love your work already thanks
That. Is. Awesome! Thanks, gonna install it on my WP7
I love this, I wanted opera mobile so bad on my phone, it's way better than the built in IE.
EDIT: why is the launcher delaying the start for 3 seconds though? IS there a specific reason for that?
I'm not going to fully unlock my device but...
... I just read this on WMPoweruser and wanted to say that this is one piece of awesome work. Sick!

Yeah, they can be ported in a similar way. But for some apps it could be problematic.

[Q] Windows RT UX Patcher?

Hey guys.
Ive been in the forum for a while but finally registered to ask a quick question.
Ive been searching for a while and haven't found anything regarding a Windows RT UX theme patcher. Yes I have searched everywhere but still can't find it.
My question is, does it exist? If not would it be difficult to patch them manually?
I love my Surface RT, but the non-customization of the thing is killing me. Is it also possible to change the icons on Windows in RT? Sort of like a skin-pack thing.
Anyones help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
You can always replace icons in registry. HKCR is here from Win95 if not longer. They may exists .net 4.x based app to do that - this should run on jailbroken RT.
Uxtheme? I don't think so it exists. Even if it's possible, then only on jailbroken device.

Yeah my Surface is already jailbroken. Do you know if it's a easy job to do it manually? (Patch UX)
The stock Windows themes are literally death for me.
How do you usually find out if an app is .net 4.X based? I know theres a list here on the forums, but do you have to download and try every app you want?
Off-topic, but how are you typing then? Shouldn't you be cremated or something by now?
Hyperbole weakens your argument, and misuse of the language will just annoy people.

As far as i know its impossible to run win 7, but you can run win xp or 95 or 93 on it but it will be super laggy and also awkward.
But if you talking about running windows app on android, wine team is working on it (idk if they still working on it or abandoned it).
Just a theory if you can chmod linux on your tablet and you should be able to get wine working and you can run win apps with it...

Hi Jacker31, & gjost_j
It is posible to do virtual xp and previous. Seach the forum for "Bosh".
It was compiled a few years ago for all arm base devices. But at tha time ther were no x86!
Itry to compile it but could not got over some errors.
So yes if we could find a good sourse we may give it a try!
Look
Using remote desktop (i.e. Teamviewer or Splashtop) is a much better solution than actually installing Windows.
@r2d23cpo
This remind me this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUE-gJmcGKk few years back then. Trust me, Its not worth it to try *I tried before and it lags like hell*
@Jacker31 and others
I never said it is worth it. How to run Windows on android ? thats the title.
Still I will like to have it handy. You never know of a real need that may make it give you go into this trouble. Please keep in mind that all those programs where made available only for ARM! And you will will find lots of info, none for x86 tablet.
Now I do can run Ubuntu in VNC mode, it lags but work. In fact I have it handy with Open Office. It is my main project to try run Ubuntu Natively. But I have post pone all projects due to health issues.

J,
hi, how much ram did you allocate to the emulator ?
i had a thought of using bosch to run a minimal pe windows [minixp]
i'm going to try 800mb ram on the tab 4, on the tab 3 i believe only the p5220 would
have enough ram available for a semi-decent run.
@ghost_j1
Else i think the only solution is ssh/vnc as long as your connect is reliable.
@r2d23cpo

What do you mean by replicated? On PC you can use Hyper-V to run w10m's emulator - and I'm taking a shot in the dark here, but that should work with android too.

Hi i wrote replaced. Like deleting microsoft sub-android and replacing it by a real android os. That would allow us to run all android apps on the virtual machine in windows 10 mobile. I have a note 3 sm-n9005 and a 1520 4g. I would love to be able to run all my note 3 loved apps in my awesome, beautifull yellow 1520 ?

Sorry, I totally read that wrong. I'm no expert on this stuff, but I know that it's not as easy as dragging/dropping a new OS. They've built android into their OS (in a sense). The interactions between android and the hardware, and Windows 10 Mobile are built in. Technically if you felt like finding every android-related file, you could replace them all and try until you're successful, but it would be a very advanced task to complete.
tl;dr
This is not currently possible.
Il take a long shot here, THE ANDROID OS is in windows/system32/aow.wim if we can do some minor changes to this we will be good to go. Minor changes been getting gapps, su et some extra permission in there. I will try to extract it do that changes and then put it back in his place and have a go. Wish me luck ( hope it wont harm my lovely phablet)
