[Developer Discussion] JB Rom Creation - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hi All,
I'm starting this thread so that we can compile in one location the methods we attempted to create a zip for the recent Jellybean update, and hopefully advance the creation of this rom. This should be mentioned before starting.
ONLY POST IF YOU HAVE RELEVENT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS JELLYBEAN ROM.
This Includes:
Procedures
Logcats
Test Builds
Helpful Suggestions (Be Specific)
To start, I've attempted the following alterations on the zip level:
Straight System dump with updated updater-script
System dump with default updater script
Modified updater script removing patch elements
Utilizing the Canadian Rom, which flashed and appplying new system.
Swapping out radio flashing and boot.img with shellnutt's boot.img
I also have the following plans:
System Dump on Canadian Rom, and default boot.img
Recursive Deleting of patched files
Example
Code:
assert(apply_patch_check("/system/3rd_party/videowiz/lib/libMvMMAS.so", "65cfe8efc36cf58669e5fb9f30274bc49c3f9703", "e1a051bb2562af8d9b106ef4b875f85a6109ee9e"));
set_progress(0.003080);
delete("/system/3rd_party/videowiz/lib/libMvMMAS.so");
Than initiate the normal package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
Any other information would be great. Some developers have gotten it to flash but not boot.
Also, here's a link to the test builds I released.
http://goo.im/devs/AdriVelazquez/Roms/Nightlies/TestSprint
Thanks to all the developers that have been working on it.

This is what I've tried:
Used the boot.img & system.img. from dump to compile a rom in dxsdia's kitchen. I was able to apply root to the boot.img and compiled a zip but it wont flash. I then added the updater script from the dump but it still wouldn' t flash. Ithink my problem is in the updater script. I didn't take thetime to configure the kitchen properly for the optimus G but will do so tonight. I have the 2 test zips at home and I'll post them tonight if anyone wants to take a look.

Suggestion:
Since houstonns Korean port boots, and all is well except radio, would it also help to look at that system dump along with the Canadian? Maybe something to utilize?

I also tried both mentioned here, none worked for me as well. I contacted couple of friends to help us out, Scott (Scrossler cleanrom series) already answer me back, he's looking into it, I will let u guys know if they get something working.
Edit: houston answer as well, he is gonna work on it as well.

As I don't own the device I need your guys' help with creating a flashable zip for you guys. Lrod0175 requested my help. What I need is your system mount points. To get those open up Terminal Emulator and enter these commands:
Code:
$ su
# cat /proc/emmc
I need what is printed out.

Please, for safety, only use the by-name mount points. Below are the partitions for the American and Candian variants.

[Q] Lg Optimus Chic (e720) custom rom????

Hello guys ... Looking around the web i can not find anything about a recovery or a custom kernel for Lg optimus chic ... I own it for 3 months, and I'm really satisfied, but a recovery to install above would make me really happy. Someone could create one? It should not be difficult, it is almost the same as the LG optimus one ... Thanks in advance ... Oh I forgot, you could create a section for the LG Optimus Chic (like the optimus one)? This smartphone is spreading very fast, and he deserves a custom recovery of his ownThank you very much. Oh and sorry for my bad English :S
Greetings from Italy Andreoid.
Anyone can help me?
And I search ROM for my LG Optimus Chic
Have you find any custom recovery for patching a rom?
I made a tested working one a few weeks ago just havent had time to release it.
Really???????
Test Version: Note I do not have this phone and was asked to add this to my recovery lineup.
Directions:
Download this recovery and unzip it and copy to root of sdcard
recovery-alessi-gnm.img.zip
password is gnmtest
download flash_image.zip and unzip and copy to root of sdcard
flash_image.zip
commands to flash recovery
from adb shell or terminal (requires root # prompt)
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak (notice this file install-recovery.sh may not be on your device if it gives an error or file not found move on)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-alessi-gnm.img
sync
then power off device and boot holding most likely vol-dn + home + menu ??? This needs to be verified for alessi device. You may be able to boot recovery by adb reboot recovery also. Edit confirmed to boot via VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER by ptesmoke on e720 (bell)
Key mapping is Vol-up & Vol-down move selection up & down. Back is backup a menu. Menu key is to select.
This is a test version I'll do full release soon after bugs (if any) are worked out.
The message E: bad boot message is normal disregard it.
For debugging use the move recovery-log to sd option under other and please upload it with feedback.
Overclock kernel assuming everything works:
signed_alessi_oc.zip
Ptesmoke noted that Oc kernel wasn't very stable for him above 748mhz. Ill need some other feedback to make sure it wasnt just a low spec processor die he had.
password is keepout
Special Thanks:
Amon_Ra for his original source code
Ptesmoke for testing
Basic description of recovery features and troubleshooting can be found here in one of my other posts. http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/256286-custom-recovery-ms690-optimus-m.html
easiest way to contact me is @getitnowmarket on twitter

[KERNEL] GT-I9000 insecure kernels for use with rooting

Many of you seem to think that you have been abandonded by the developers moving to the GT-I9100, I do not think this is the case, but you have to remember that developing for a new phone is more fun
Anyway, some of you will already know about my insecure kernels for the GT-I9100, well since Gingerbread on the GT-I9000 I have also been using insecure kernels for my own personal use and have now decided to release them, since if you are like me and like to keep your phone as close to stock as possible they may be of some use to you.
If you like my work, maybe you would like to say thanks by buying me a beer
Insecure Kernels:-
GT-I9000_XWJVZ_insecure
GT-I9000_XWJW1_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVP_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVQ_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVR_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVS_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVT_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJVU_insecure
GT-I9000_XXJW4_insecure
password = [email protected]
a quick method for rooting would be:-
Code:
adb remount
adb push busybox /system/xbin/
adb push su /system/xbin/
adb shell chown root.shell /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell chown root.shell /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
adb shell /system/xbin/busybox --install -s /system/xbin
You need to make sure that busybox and su are in the same folder as you are typing the adb commands.
You could also push superuser.apk if you have it local:-
adb install superuser.apk
You can use these files to return to the stock kernel if you wish, you will still be rooted but adb will not be running as root on first login via shell.
Original Kernels:-
GT-I9000_XWJVZ_original
GT-I9000_XWJW1_original
GT-I9000_XXJVP_original
GT-I9000_XXJVQ_original
GT-I9000_XXJVR_original
GT-I9000_XXJVS_original
GT-I9000_XXJVT_original
GT-I9000_XXJVU_original
GT-I9000_XXJW4_original
Please DO NOT mirror any of my files, thank you.
I have used your 9100 insecure. Good work. I have also rated this thread a 5-star.
link to github repo for kernel source (most preferrably ^^) please !
what all did you change ?

Mine is ok, maybe a bug in JVS makes an incompatibilty problem with your router? Try to flash the JVS original kernel and see if the problem still exists, you will still keep root.

As you probably know, this is not only zach asking kindly or xda-rules. GPL licence, on which android kernel is based, clearly states to release updated source along with the build.
Developers are always welcome when they follow this. Bet you get help here to setup github.
Failing to comply usually ends in some banned/thread locked.

The kernel is not compiled from sources, its only a 4 byte change which is injected to the stock kernel. That is the reason there is no source released, the Admins and Mods know this already and the reason this thread is still here alive and not locked.
and its the reason it works correctly with XXJVS.

[DEV] UK Stock System Dump - Build ITL41D

Going to preface this with the fact that I'm relatively new to the dev scene. I'm still learning, but we all learn by doing right?
This dump is taken from my rooted UK retail O2 Galaxy Nexus. Rooted using adb method (not superboot method) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352004
Not entirely positive these are done perfectly (especially the .zip) but I think that may creatable from my dd image anyways. I'd appreciate someone with dev experience looking over these and okaying them, and maybe regular users staying away from trying to do anything with these until someone more experienced says they're alright?
I just figured that seeing I uploaded these for 2 people I may as well make them publically available for all.
I'm also including the steps I took inside code tags for anyone to point out any mistakes I may have made.
DD Image as requested by Maximilian Mary:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/system of=/sdcard/galaxynexussystem.img
Available here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KXFYSMT2 or http://multiupload.com/CPP4L2553Y
Zip file as originally requested by Revolution
I followed http://www.robmcghee.com/android/creating-an-android-update-zip-package/ - Thinking back I realise I probably didn't need to sign it, whoops
Code:
## Create folders dump, dump/system, dump/META-INF/com/google/android
cd dump
adb pull /system system
## Edited /META-INF/com/google/android/update-script with:
## show_progress 0.1 0
##
## copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
## set_perm_recursive 0 0 0755 0644 SYSTEM:app
## show_progress 0.1 10
##
## Zip system and META-INF folders into gnsys.zip
## Signed using testsign.jar
Available here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KXFYSMT2 or http://www.filesonic.com/file/3935308085/gnsys-signed.zip
If anyone spots anything wrong with either my commands or my files, please reply with what I did wrong so I can learn from that, thanks.

THE GOODS
These generic names will be used:
/path/to/motochopperDir - This is the full path to the extracted motochopper-mobile DIRECTORY or FOLDER. Example: /sdcard/motochopper-mobile (will vary depending on where you extracted the files).
NOTE: After running the script, Motochopper may or may not print "Failed", but the exploit DOES indeed work regardless of this. Make sure you reboot for changes to take effect.

Download the attached zip file AND both apps.
Install Terminal Emulator and Superuser (use a file manager, navigate to the downloaded .apk files and click on each file to install them).
Open up Terminal Emulator and type the following commands. Press the ENTER key after each command.
Code:
cd /path/to/motochopperDir
cat setup.sh > /data/data/jackpal.androidterm/setup.sh
cd /data/data/jackpal.androidterm
chmod 755 setup.sh
./setup.sh /path/to/motochopperDir
From there, my setup.sh script will handle the rest of the process. If you are still unsure, see my sample run below.
Sample run (files were extracted to /sdcard/moto)
Code:
cd /sdcard/moto
cat setup.sh > /data/data/jackpal.androidterm/setup.sh
cd /data/data/jackpal.androidterm
chmod 755 setup.sh
./setup.sh /sdcard/moto

Probably not. I'm assuming that you will have to use ROM Manager to install CWM or TWRP.

I can confirm it works on the latest MD4 4.1.2 stock rom. So any version below that is good.
Hey I tried this on my friend's S3, and the phone is still not rooted after three attempts. On stock MD4 4.1.2. Any thoughts?

I personally tested before posting and it worked fine for me

[OFFICIAL THREAD] Getting the LG QRemote from 5.0 Korean update working on AOSP 5.x

I have the necessary APKs and other files to make a flashable zip, however whenever I try to flash it it succeeds but when I click on quickremote, the app force closes on me and will not load. How can we successfully get this to work on lollipop? I have posted several times in the forums but nobody seems to care about helping get this done.
Here is a the link to my pasted logcat relating to this error. I uploaded it to pastebin.

I replied to one of your posts on another thread. @Snepsts and I are attempting to figure this out at the moment through PM's and such. I will make a thread for it if we get anywhere with it.
I pasted a logcat on pastebin and put the link in the OP
Are you sure, you got all files? Odex file? Another part of the apk? Set the right permissions? Do you use a custom screen density?

Check your inbox BTW. I just sent you a message.
Code:
03-02 12:34:40.312 E/AndroidRuntime(4334): java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Failed resolution
by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Didn't find class "com.lge.systemservice.core.LGContext" on path: DexPathList[[zip file "/system/app/LGQRemote.apk"],nativeLibraryDirectories=[/vendor/lib, /system/lib]]
First is why I asked about density. Try it out with stock density of the G3
2nd: Those are the patha I'd go diggin. Maybe gonna explain a bit closer/have a closer look tomorrow. Got to sleep now.^^
Amything new here? Have you already searched in the fokders I "mentioned"?
I'm back and trying to get this working once more. It is so odd that the way they got this working on the G2 and G3 does not work on ours. It makes me think that the stock LG ROM with lollipop for the G Pro is just a bunch of hacks LG threw into a zip file which just makes this even more difficult. I'm not going to give up yet though. If anyone else has any suggestions please PM me. I would gladly appreciate more ideas.

@Sunandroid, how can I get the odex files without installing the ROM myself. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Not sure, but it should be doable by unpacking the roms zip.

I am pretty sure the odex files are generated when the ROM is installed. This means I need to have someone who has the ROM working to get them to me.. The zip only has the files from the system partition.

Yeah, and the odes files usually are in system partition. Post a link to the ROM, you want to ectract the remote from, please. Gonna dig in there next weekend if O got the time.
