[Q] n7100 cannot enter download mode stock rom not rooted - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I just got my note 2 couple of months ago and finally decided to root it. I am familiar with rooting since my HTC Desire HD days. I have already prepared all the tools i needed to root but when I tried to enter download mode (vol up + home + pow key) I only get to recovery mode with lying android and a red mark above its belly. Have tried different forums, some suggested to hold pow, then press vol up key, but does not work for me. Tried wiping cache and factory restore, still no go. android 4.1.2 installed.
Please help. Thank you

Humbled, need a little help

So I've had this phone 9 days, unlocked/rooted it a few hours ago and decided to try Cyanogen 10. I used ROM Manager to boot into recovery for the flash and now it's stuck on the splash screen.
I made a full nandroid backup before flashing but can't figure out how to manually get it back into Clockwork's recovery. Volume-down+power brings me to a robot telling me he's downloading something and not to turn off the target. I also made full ADB backups from the Nexus Root Toolkit before the unlock/root if anyone can tell me how to restore that way.
Flame away, I'm never this dude!
Volume up + volume down + power will get up into bootloader then u can select recovery.

What? You can press the Vol Up and Vol Down at the same time now and it registers? The wonders of technology.
Sarcasm off... Thanks, you just saved my ass (recovery successful). Now to figure out why Google didn't tell me that.
There's no problem with you coming to the forums to ask for help, but in the future, please try and post in the appropriate forum. This particular forum is not for general Q&A. I would think you would some better help over there.

I have tried flashing using CWM6 via mobile odin still same result please Help....what have i done and how to restore...
Using Samsung Galaxy GT N7100 (India)--rooted

You have to press Volume UP + HOME + power during about 5 ou 10sec until you see the Samsung screen. Not Volume UP + Volume Down in the same time.

You should try to flash a stock ROM with odin, not only the recovery. But i'm not sure of that, just wait until an expert help you.
Hello . U can acess the download mode ?
Try volume down + home button then power button when u see samsung logo release the power button but keep pressing volume down + home until download mode pop up

[q] Warning for any rooted Tab 7!!!!!

Today I finally rooted my Tablet 7 with some help from gr8nole here on XDA. Needless to say I was very happy and started downloading any and all apps that required root I was interested in. Unfortunately about an hour into my adventure I downloaded an app called LCD Density. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. It soft bricked my device after changing the density from 240 to 160. I am now just trying to get back to square one again and have no idea what to do. I wiped the cache partition and re flashed root. Reboot same thing again. The Samsung screen is vertical not horizontal and doing the infamous glow from blue to white and back to blue and nothing more continuously. I am in CWM now and not really sure what step to take next as I don't want to risk a hard brick. I went to Rom Manager in CWM and no files were there when I went to use the backup feature What should I do?

Thank you..Quick question. How do you get into Recovery with TWRP? I flashed it with Odin with the auto restart and with out. I used the CWM Recovery vol up power and home keys but it does not do anything. I am rooted already as well. Could that be the issue? Im using the TAR file too. I really would like to use the touch screen option instead of pushing buttons like a dinosaur

When you flash twrp or cwm in odin, you must uncheck autoreboot. Btw hold down power vol up and home button, when samsung logo appears, release the power button while still pessing down vol up and home

Why didnt you just change the density back? Open build.prop, or push a stock version of it via adb or (idk if it is possible) via fastboot.
Then yoir problem should be solved. Those tweaks have got nothing to do with cache, or data, or so
Thats also why you need root and also the reason, why it is not so easy, to root some devices
But try brain.exe and everything should work, as it should

No i haven't done anything silly with my phone, also i haven't downloaded any recovery tools etc.
I was simply looking at the menu and browsing when all of a sudden this happened. There was a virus attack 'Recycler' on my phone on 20th march but after that i installed an anti-virus and scanned all through it. No other abnormal behavior since then.
Thanks,
Pradeep
So why don't you go to the service center as you have not rooted your device. If you wanna use the sp flash tool then you can install clockwork mod recovery. But that will void your phone warranty and if that does not work then you have to pay to the service center.

If you do not want to go to service center then I have an another trick which is safe and easy to use
Take out and plug again the battery. Now first click the volume up, home key and then press the power button for 5 sec. You would enter into the recovery. Navigate to the factory reset using the volume up and down key and press the home key and after it done reboot the system now. That will surely work if doesn't post here again what you are facing the problem

Well thats the ultimate path, but they are closed for next two days, so i thought if it's a normal occuring issue then will solve myself but then it seems going to the service center is the safest idea.
Thanks for your points.

Bricked E975 with not working vol + and -, need help!

Hey, guys. I just got bricked my phone and I can not find any solution. My vol + buttno seems not to be working and the vol- button is working from time to time. The phone was with CM 12 Lillipop and I git update but I didn't like it. So I did not wiped everything before to flash it back with the original ROM (CM12) so I got bootloop of android logo. Is there any way to put it into recovery mode or something without vol + /I could make vol- to work somehow/? Please, I heed help!
Can you go to fast boot? (Vol up plus power) if yes then flash SOLID KERNEL V1.6 GPROJ through fastboot... It might work, else flash a stock kdz

Bro calm down! Just download tools and flash stock kdz
First hold both volume down buttons and connect your phone to PC with cable while holding both volume buttons. Does download mode appear? If it does then flashing stock kdz will get your phone back!

As I said before, my volume buttons are not working properly. That's the reason I made this thread- to find out if I can save my phone or not. I already tried flashing with kdz, but I can not boot the phone in any mode but bootloop CM lollipop logo. Also I can not install MTP on PC as it seems to be the problem when I tried with adb command prompt.
So, is there any other way except repair service for the volume buttons?

Aah I got your problem. You have bootloader unlocked? To flash kdz you need a locked bootloader. Try locking it somehow (kinda impossible if you can't boot :/ ). Once you flash stock recovery and lock bootloader then you'll be able to flash kdz! I think you need to go to repair shop to fix buttons

By the way, I did installed a custom recovery via FreeGee. Since then when I reboot the phone, it shows Google and a locked locker at the bottom. It could mean locked bootloader, right? Also I have backup and all the files i need in there, but the problem is I can not reach them. Tomorrow I am going to talk to the service. I hope there's a hope
Anyway, thank you again, @MZ_

Well yes it means a locked bootloader. If you could go to fastboot you could try fastboot oem unlock command. As the mako boot loader is nexus based ... Just a thought. Can you get a temp fix your vol up button? Any hard thing which presses button? :/

locked or unlocked BL has nothing to do with the download mode. You have to take your device to download mode using some commands from PC. search for this. I think this sould work: adb reboot download

Dude he can't connect with ADB! Please readout the post first! He is in a softbricked state. He has recovery but his keys are damaged. I think the bootloader is locked that's why it isn't booting up (maybe) ... Or the ROM is damaged. Anyways he can't do anything till he fixes both the volume buttons!

Yeah, @MZ_. I am not able to do anything like this. I tried adb, but it said no device found. I took the phone to the service today so I am waiting for respond. Once again, thank you all for the suggestions. ROM is not corrupted. It is cm 12 working perfect, but when I updated it there was lots of lagg. So I did the mistake just to wipe cache and dalvik before to reflash the original ROM. So that's how I got bricked my phone. So now I am gonna wait hopefully for good ):
