[Q] How do I install CM 10.1 R2 and still have Google Play, Maps, etc? - LG Nitro HD

I changed my Bell P930 from rooted ICS to CM 10.1 RC2 but quickly discovered it didn't include any Google apps. I really don't care about most of the Google apps, but I'd definitely like to have Google Play and Maps. I went to the Google Play website but didn't see Google Play as an option as an app to install. Additionally, I didn't find it as easy to add on accounts besides Exchange or email accounts. Is this just what you get or is there an easy way to make it a little bit more like the Android experience I'm used to?
In the meantime, I've restored my CWM backup. I'm not sure what I'm gaining by switching if I lose the ability to easily install apps on my smartphone or sync with my Gmail and FB accounts.
Hoping for a real JB release from LG/Bell but doubting that will ever come!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I will give this a shot.

cyanogenmod comes with no bloatware so you have to install even google apps if you want them, the link is already there just being clear that it is normal for them not to be there and you are suposed to install them on first install but u dont need to reinstall when updating CM

[Q] Google Mail not available in CM7

Hey,
I've switched recently from Oxygen 2.01 to CM7 RC2. I did a full wipe (factory reset/cache). Then I installed the Google Apps and had the problem that I couldn't download from the Google Market. I reflashed the Google Apps (gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip) and now I could download from market and had apps like Google Maps.
My problem now is: I can't use Google Mail. The Market says that it is already installed on my device but it's not displayed anywhere on the phone. Neither can I choose it with the ADW launcher nor can I see the app in the settings menu of Android. I already cleared my cache again and reflashed a third time the Google Apps.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Or does someone know how I get to the screen where I can choose which Apps from the Google Apps packet I'd like to install ?
reflash is your best bet
If the market is saying its installed, can you uninstall via the market. Then install it again.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Can't uninstall via Market. I will try to reflash CM7.
Ok! For installation of the CM7, I normally do is wipe, install CM7, boot for the first time, don't install gapps just yet. Enter settings and enable your wifi connection. Now boot to recovery then flash the lastest gapps zip, reboot the phone and should have the apps and screen to choose which apps to install from the market. Well! It happens for the first time you use the market app of course.
That how I do things, hope it will help your situation somehow.
Now I've got Gmail installed. But I had to download the .apk file. Couldn't install it through the market.
Thread can be closed. Thanks to everyone.
Just to let you know, the gapps zip file doesn't include any market apps. It only includes the Market (vending.apk) and the Google Account Sync setup. Everything that is Google you need to get from the market.
You could of tried to have used the web market as well to install it. But seems like you didn't fully wipe it or something messed up.
I fully wiped my device twice. Market said that it was already installed but it wasn't.
Hi ekwinoks
I had promblems with the google mail installation. I found out that the Google-Mail app is not available on the german market. So i used the Market unlocker app to download the mail app.

Help with Gallery 3D

I recently tried out CM 7.1 and to my surprise the "Gallery 3D by Rayman50" force installed itself after i launched the market, now i cant remove it anymore. I went back to my previous rom (2.3.4 stock tmobile rooted) I did a fresh install ,wiped all system data, cache,etc... and as soon as i sign into market on the stock 2.3.4 rooted rom, the app is back on and installed. I even disabled auto synch and auto back up to prevent the install but it hasn't helped. I had the stock 2.3.4 rooted rom before and didnt have the issue, it started all after installing CM 7.1 a few days ago. Anyone else having this problem?
thanks
Not per se, but I'd guess that this is somehow connected to backing up your settings to your google account. So it's probably still set for automatic download (had this with different apps before).
I'd just let all apps install automatically via the android market and then uninstall it with titanium backup. When your device next syncs with your google account, it should remove the 3d gallery so this won't happen again. (You'd obviously have to activate auto-backup again for this to work)

The OP said nothing about jellybean, and from your other posts seems you're post-padding.

Noob question about apps after installing codename android

Hey guys, after searching around a bit I learned that in order to get apps you need a file manager, which I have, but it also says I need a market. I checked the dev forum and I couldn't really find anything. I tried google, alas to no avail. My google fu isn't very strong.
This question must've been asked before and I apoligize, but I'm at a loss for where I'm supposed to go.
In a nutshell, I'm wondering how I can install apps on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus running the latest Codename Android rom. Apps such as facebook, angry birds, etc.
The apps you usually access in the google play store. I tried accessing it on my computer, though when trying to download them I was told I haven't accessed the market on my google device.
Any help you can offer would be great, thank you again!

I'm no CNA expert, but there are two common ways (not counting TB restores, etc) to install apps on Android:
1. Via the play store
2. By installing an .apk file manually
Can you access the play store on you device? Are you logged in with your Google account on your device?

I can't access the play store, atleast, the play store app isn't on my device. When I try through my phone's browser play.google website tells me that I haven't accessed the market on my device. I am logged in with my google account on my device.

You need to flash GAPPS. I'm not sure if the CNA dev recommends a particular version, if not, flash the latest one.

You flash it via recovery, just like a ROM.

Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
From the OP at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414422
Gapps: http://download.androtransfer.com/AndroidUser00110001/gapps/gapps_ics_404_06042012.zip
There's instructions in the first link too. Make sure you read through the whole OP and check the following two or three posts as the OP usually posts another message for updates/changes, etc.
**Assuming you're running the Maguro. If you're on the Toro (verizon or sprint) you'll need to find that post if you need the ROM again but gapps will work with both versions.**
Thanks to all of you! I figured it out, got GAPPS, and am alot more comfortable in my understanding of my phone and cwm, etc. Thanks again!
Nice going.

[Q] Missing GApps after clean flashing MMuzzy

After clean flashing MMuzzyRom's 4/21 release to my VZW Galaxy Nexus WITH the 03012013 GApps, I am missing some apps like Gmail, Calendar, and Navigation to name a few. Play store and Google Music are there however. Is this normal? I can redownload from the Play store but wanted to know if there is a problem or not. Thanks.
Yes it's normal. i guess!! And if you want to check whether all the apps from gapps zip did installed or not, just open zip and check in system/apps and chek all the APKs in there.
P.S I don't have Play Music APK in my zip

I believe MMuzzy excludes any Google apps that can be found in the Play Store, or at least that's the case with his ROM on the N7. So yes, it's normal.

Can't Download Google Play Movies

I'm having trouble downloading any movie onto my Note. I hit download and it just briefly started downloading then pops up "This video couldn't be downloaded" No error number. Have 6GB of space left. I'm able to download it on my chromebook & phone. Anyone have any experience with this?

Well, i guess you have not had much problems with google, so you may not know how to reset google issues.
I find resetting google krappa is just as problematic as having to reboot windows. Depending on what proggys or updates are used. Ha!
Step one... remove google account. Step 2... in application manager go to all apps and select google video and clear cache, and data and stop app, all in order given.
Step 3 is optional but important as Google Play controls a lot of things that also get corrupted time to time. Do the same reset in google play store.
Once you have reset, start the troubled app, and login using an existing account with google. Once authenticated you should be able to set your settings and use the app.
If by chance you are using a rooted device and are redirecting downloads to SD, it may keep Google Video from saving to SD.
One odd thing that i found with a particular custom ROM that i use... i had to modify my platform.xml even further for media to allow some apps that have odd permissions that request fail to request Media not SD or default storage.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help, but it was to no avail. Still can't download. I'm running civato's 4.4.2 build. I wonder if there's some type of missing app/something.

Ah, well it may be the kernel... I could never mirracast with his 4.4.2 build, but able to do so with his 4.2.2 build. Don't do Google Video so I can't verify on my build, but most everything else for streaming.
Were you able to download before you updated google video? I have found a number of apps breaking as of this year. Some I may never update because of Marshy Mellow compatibility. Too tired of correcting by restoring by backup , so I just wont bother doing updates anymore.
You can try Boeffla kernel 2.6 it is very stable and does work on stock and modded Touchwiz ROMs. If it don't you can always go back to Civato's kernel.
