I moved from Verizon to Sprint because of
1) price
2) unlimited data, talk...
3) Samsung Galaxy SII
1) Well, let's say price is ok, unlimited usage is good, but the internet is not as good as Verizon, so I don't use it too much
2) I don't care if I have unlimited everything if the connection is not reliable.
It's BETTER than T-Mobile though (T-Mobile sucks so bad), but it's nowhere NEAR as good as Verizon
3) Phone SUCKS. Today is the first day I FINALLY was able to
a) root phone
b) Fix the signal issue
I went to Sprint and they offered me $100 credit so I can stay with them, and now my phone is fixed, so in theory I feel like giving them another try
With Verizon, the bill was expensive, I do remember in my family, we paid $260 for 1 smartphone and two simple phones, that's ridiculous
Anyway, if I move by myself to Verizon in order to have the Ice Cream Sandwich phone,
1) Is the 2X data offer from Verizon a good offer to come back to the big red?
2) Any chance I can root the phone and not pay for tethering on Verizon?
3) Is that phone a SUPER PHONE that really deserves all the hassle
To be honest, I really like my Samsung, and now that I fixed the loss of signal error (hopefully, first day after I upgraded), I kind of want to use my phone for a while
I really like the phone itself, but again, I have no idea if the other phone is better than mine, and if it is, how much better?
If Verizon still had unlimited data plans and you have the money for that bill, I would say go to Verizon. LTE is awesome! If I ever went to Verizon now, it would be for a non smartphone and I just wanted good phone service/signal. You'll definitely get faster data speeds on Verizon but having a 2GB cap is painful. And with LTE, you're bound to reach the cap faster unless your consistently on wi-fi. Tethering would just hit your data cap even faster. Unless you plan to get a more expensive plan than 2GB ($30 per month). I mean if money isn't an issue I would choose Verizon. But I got a family to feed and I'm good with Epic Touch on Sprint's unlimited data. I happen to get 4G at home and at work. The 3G isn't slow on my phone but it's not special either.
I read that Sprint is planning LTE in the future. We'll just have to see! If they do switch to LTE and KEEP their UNLIMITED DATA & don't jack up prices on the plans, they will get more people coming to Sprint over other carriers.
What phone sucks? If you are referring to the et4g then yeah go get bent by Verizon. This RIG rocks. Also the G nex only has 16GB internal no sd card slot. Wtf I would fill that in about ten minutes. Geesh is ICS that important.
Noo the galaxy nexus has 32g. If u live in a 4g area I say go for it. But then again how much is 4gigs when ur blazing 4g speeds good thing the galaxy nexus has that data limiter! !

I also read that Sprint will begin rolling out a TD-LTE network next year...supposedly it should be faster than standard LTE so i will be sicking around for It

I love it, sprint is rolling out faster LTE. lol when I hear fanboy comments. That's not a good justification that sprint "will" have LTE. I USED to be a sprint customer, I used it along with my Verizon, then after about 10 days I realized what a mistake I made. At least in my area, 3G was painfully slow, no 4G in sight, and just a bad experience. Idk why sprint went with wimax and how they failed so badly. At the time it was a decent move as it is SOMEWHAT faster than 3G, but still not even as fast as T-Mobile's synthetic 4G. With that said if u want to be able to see INSANE speeds I would make the move back to VZW. I know ill get the whole "pics or it didn't happen" but Verizon can pull 40+MB/s down and up to 50 at time ls and I've seen 20 up. These aren't flukes, it can be replicated. Several times over. I know the argument that sprint has unlimited 4G, but what good is that when its on a network(WiMax) that will be useless in the next 18 months? Agreeing with and above poster it will be insanely easy to blow thru 4GB(assuming vzw still has double the data promo) on VZW bc it downloads stuff so fast that u won't hesitate to download that 1GB or larger file. If u have no regards for money, by all means Verizon is your best bet. By the end of 2013 vzw will have 4G in places that sprint, tmo l, or att have rarely had 3G. I have traveled across the entire US, several times from the east coast to the west and it does happen, but is very rare that vzw loses service. Rarely is 3G even lost. I was a bit harsh earlier on sprint, as they are a solid wireless provider but the term in this particular place "u get what u pay for" applies. At least in the case of Verizon. As I stated earlier in my post. If u have the Money, search the forums BC there are still a few loopholes to find unlimited on vzw, it is worth every penny u can throw at it.
With that said, I'm about 20 miles outside of a 4G area so I don't use it daily. However, I use it enough to know how good it is. Obviously I'm typing this from the dinc2, which isn't 4g. But the bionic is.
Before I commit to leaving 4G on all the time they are gonna have to finish the next Gen of lte radios BC the battery life on all 4G phones(vzw or not) leaves something to be desired.
Lastly, I do not agree that the E4GT sucks. IMHO its the best out of the entire GS2 line.

The devices on Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile really do not even justify making the switch. Our Epic 4G Touch matches and/or blows their specs away, including the Galaxy Nexus. Its camera is a slight bit improved, screen has a little bit better contrast and DPI (which we have workarounds to compare with it), but everything else is on par with one another. If things are absolutely terrible and you have no Sprint coverage where you are, then making the move might be a good option. Otherwise, you're more likely to benefit from riding it out for another year.

Well said, I left Verizon for Sprint, because of the amazingly piss poor customer service (curiously when I was porting my number they finally treated me pretty well).
Their data speeds were fast but I never got anywhere near 40 MB/s down, for me it was always still faster to use wifi whenever possible. And, the phones I had (Droid X, Thunderbolt) generally sucked.
When you factor all that in with the higher prices my decision was an easy one. However, only you can make the decision that is right for you, best of luck either way.

it's been a sucky phone for the last two months, EVERY SINGLE DAY I have to reboot it

Ok, here are a few things I have in mind
1) Nobody mentioned if I can have free tethering at Verizon
2) what about LCD Root?
I have that program in my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch and man the screen in my phone is the best screen I've EVER had EVER
I love my phone, now with the loss of service fixed, FINALLY I have a nice Samsung Galaxy S II
But part of me thinks, man, I've been waiting for SG II since April 2011.
Maybe this month I can go to Verizon and get a nice phone that will serve me well for 2012?
I already waited way way way too much for SGII
I am going to see how much it costs to go back to Verizon, I suppose that if I can tether for free, with root, hack, whatever, then that would make me change in no time
What I don't like about Verizon is the plans.
WIth Sprint I can talk 10 hours per day, no problem
with Verizon I think unlimited costs $79 and data costs $30, insurance $10, txt $20... keep adding and adding you're talking about $130-$150 for unlimited everything (and still it's not unlimited because of 4GB Data Cap)
With Sprint I do like the fact that it's really unlimited, and it's cheap
But I just feel that SGII was a phone for 2011
Samsung Nexus is the phone for 2012
So I might as well switch now that the device is ready

Edit: here's a detailed break down I read about the text plan, smh.
You can spend $25 for 2GB of mobile data which they claim ends up being about 80MB per dollar which then translates to 500,000 text messages each 160 characters long. We’ll bet you seldom hit the 160 character mark which makes this even worse. Now take that dollar and divide it by the number of texts and each one probably costs $0.000002 or two ten thousandths of a cent. That isn’t very much. If you send 5,000 texts in month then those texts cost about $0.01 – a penny.

I disagree. Honestly? There isn't that much difference in performance between the SGS II and the Galaxy Nexus. The biggest difference really is ICS, and, hopefully, it won't be too terribly long before we with the E4GT have ICS. That, and a higher DPI screen, which is marginally larger (0.15").
I know that I have never been doing something on my E4GT and been cursing my phone for being slow and laggy. The only thing that is slow is the network, and that's mostly because I live in an area where about half the time, I only have 1x, and not 3g. Granted, the 3g isn't as fast as verizon, but for me, it's acceptable. Even when it's clocked down to 800 mHz (which mine does below 50% battery) it still flies. I changed to the E4GT because it was a big step up from the OG Epic. That big step simply does not exist from the E4GT to the Galaxy Nexus.

1.The phone will come to other carriers.
2. $50 dollars more a month really worth it for the new "phone" Thats 600 the first year.
I'm thinking about doing the same jumping ship to Verizon to get the Galaxy Nexus. I have no kids and a good job. Also I can get a 22% monthly corporate discount and 25% of accessories too. I was thinking about the 10gb(don't even use 3gb a month) for $50. I can get rid of my home internet and tether off that phone. If y'all had the opportunity to do this switch, would you do it?
7" tegra3 from Asus with ICS. I am sold if it's stock and can be used as external display from a phone. $249, but it seems Google delayed to try and lower price and tweak it more.

Being that you are on a developmental website I am going to go on a limb and say your device is rooted. Also, being that you are in the GNexus thread I am going to go on another limb and say you have a GNexus. So, install Wireless Tether, tether your "WiFi only" tablet to it, have a "4G LTE" tablet wherever you have data on your phone without paying for another data plan. Plus get to keep the Tegra3 processor!

Maybe... but I'll never buy tablet without 3G support. Tethering feature eat up a lot of battery. Also my employer provides me unlimited mobile internet.
There's no sense in paying for another data package. Wifi is ideal for me as with many. This could be a solution for many of us working in the field and needing computing power and internet connection via a cellphone.
Wow. Thought there'd be more discussion. Surprised nobody talking about a Google tablet likely getting some serious development behind and possibly android making a dent in the long term on apple's turf. I still don't need a tablet at all, but the price and the great possibly of Google having this as a developer friendly device make it compelling for people that don't need a tablet but wouldn't mind having one as a throw down for all kinds of reasons.

So check this out.... I am an AT&T user and back when the HTC HD2 came out for T-Mobile I bought it from a friend when they signed up for a new contract. Got an unlock code from Ebay and have been using it for the past 2 years without having to have a data plan, never got added automatically to my plan like i have heard happen to others? And I'm wondering why? Is it possibly cuz its a T-Mobile phone? Or is it cuz I still have an old "Cingular" SIM card? I am curious about this because right now, Wally World has a special sale on the phone at $249, plus a $100 gift card, which will bring the phone down to $150 basically, so a pretty damn good deal for a phone just out on the market. And I'm plan on getting it this week, I was wondering if any of you would be able to tell me if at some point if i was able to get a T-Mobile version of the Samsung Note 2 if i could slip my SIM card into it and then be able to cancel my DATA plan, if i told them i went back to a Motorola Razr or something, which worked when i got my HD2? Or will AT&T be able to see that i have a smartphone? Is it the newer smaller SIM card, that will tell AT&T that I have a smartphone, or will the phone it self be what sends info to the servers or whatever that tells AT&T I have a smartphone? Or do you think this method of getting a T-Mobile phone and using an AT&T SIM card will work and I won't get stuck with a DATA plan? Everywhere I go has Wi-Fi so I have no need for the Data plan it will be going to waste.

Yep, I am eligible for an upgrade, haven't upgraded in a few years or so... Just wondering if the new micro sim cards or the newer phone will alert at&t that i am using a smart phone, or if i will be able to do the same thing i did last time, by getting a tmobile phone with at&t service and not be required to have a data plan, if they don't know that i'm using a smart phone...?

If you bring a phone to T-Mobile, they won't force a data plan on you. I'm assuming The Dark Side [AT&T] is the same.
If you use an upgrade, a 2GB Data Plan is required, and they will not let you remove your data afterwards. T-Mobile is weird like that.

LOL, nice, but no, I'm saying I don't have any internet on my phone, only had the Wi-Fi, therefore wasn't having to pay for a data plan, because i wasn't required to have one since they didn't know i had a smart phone, just the regular cost of having a calling plan... I'm hoping it's something to do with the IMEI, if it isn't in the system, hopefully they won't know what phone i'm using...

Yeah AT&T requires you to have an added Data Plan also with any smartphone, but I don't need it, its a waste of money for me, I have Wi-Fi most of the places I go, and don't need to be connected to the net 24/7 ...lol But, I'm hoping I can get a Tmobile Note 2 and use it for a while, then tell them I went back to my Razr and hopefully be able to drop the data part of the plan, but i don't know if i could do that until the new contract is over

No, originally it was just an impulse buy, cuz its such a kick ass phone...lol I would prefer just to buy a Tmobile version somewhere and use it on AT&T and hopefully not be required to have a data plan, but since the phone is so new, i'm probably not going to find one anywhere, less than $400 even on Ebay. So what I was thinking is, just upgrade my current AT&T plan to a new 2 year agreement, and get the phone for $250, plus the $100 gift card from Wally World, and that basically brings the price down to $150, and then possibly selling or trading the phone and getting a Tmobile version, so i can cancel the internet data plan. But, i'm not sure i could do that, i don't know if the contract terms say I'm required to keep the data part, even if i don't have a smartphone anymore say after a few months or year or so. Like for example, if I sign a new 2 year agreement, and after a couple of months, tell them I went back to a Razr phone, if i can drop the data, but i'm still on the 2 year agreement. And hopefully the Tmobile version phone won't be able to be detected so i'm not automatically enrolled into the data plan again....?
I don't get it. If you just want a feature phone then just get an feature phone. There are tablets that uses WiFi only just bigger. Then you can get a free basic phone for texting and calls only. Or get a feature phone for almost free for text, calling, and listening to your music. At this point PPCs (Pocket Personal Computers) aka "Smartphones", like Galaxy Note 2, are way too much for the purposes that you are wanting to use them for.
To make PPC aka "smartphones" truly mobile they need to be connected to the Internet at all times. That is why cellular data radio services is so important for these PPC devices. They are truly cellular mobile computers. That is why I coined them as CPPC (Cellular Pocket Personal Computer) and MPPC (Mobile Pocket Personal Computer).

I'm not trying to buy the Galaxy Note 2 outright, I plan on going to Walmart sometime this week and upgrading my contract and getting the Note 2 for $249, and then on top of that Walmart will throw in a $100 gift card, that you can use on anything at the store, probably even gas at the Murphy USA station so basically, that brings the price of the phone down to $150.... I don't know of any decent tablet anywhere near that price. This phone is basically a phone and tablet all in one, I don't want to be carrying multiple devices around with me, a big 7" or 10" tablet everywhere I go everyday, plus my cell phone. I'm looking for an all in once device, and this is pretty much it. Most of the places I go have Wi-Fi, so I wouldn't, (and haven't), even hardly use(d) any data. And the extra, $15, $20 or $30 a month for a data plan could be used to help pay for other bills. I can still use the phone to its full potential without having a data plan... Except when I'm driving down the highway and I'm lost and need GPS? ...lol But, I still have my HD2 with tomtom on it, or eventually I might sell it and get a dedicated GPS, or use google navigation, I think I heard they have an option to download offline maps. If I'm bored waiting on my oil to get changed in my car somewhere, and want to watch a YouTube video, sure I'll be SOL if they don't have a public Wi-Fi, but I'll have plenty of apps and games to keep me entertained while I wait...lol IF I ever have an absolute need to use, mobile data, its a pay-per-use feature, per MB I think so I'll still have that, it just won't be a set monthly price.
Att requires you to keep a data plan for 6 months after an upgrade.
Here is what I would do:
If you upgrade then switch to the t-mo version, call att when you switch and tell them you are using a t mobile dumb phone and want your data removed. They may do it if its been 6 months since your upgrade. If they wont remove data completely, tell them you want the $10 media net package. It is unlimited and you will get hspa+ if your phone allows for it. That way you have data if you ever need it, and its cheap.
I used the $10 plan with my gsm razr, but switched back to unlimited so I wouldnt lose it. I know the $10 plan works for phones not in att's system.

Exactly, thanks for the info, helps a lot. That is exactly what I planned to do, just wasn't for sure on how long I would have to keep the mobile data plan. So $150, plus $15 a month for the minimum plan, for 6 months = $240 total, phone and mobile data.... not too bad...

Nexus 7 Tablet!!! Check it out.
To use Google Maps you will need Internet connection so that the device can download the maps while you are traveling. Yes you can do that off line. But the Google Maps function the best when you are connected. Just a good example of so many things within these devices that Must be connected at all times for.
Why not check out lower end Android devices or feature phones with these features? They will cost you even less. Much less.
Again, Galaxy Note 2 is way too much of a professional device than what you are look for. So much of Galaxy Note 2 will be wasted. And the complexity of Galaxy Note 2 is not going to make you happy in the long run.
Warning - Galaxy Note 2 WILL use your cellular data rather you want it to or not. Again, this is the nature of these devices. Everything from email, system backing up, your contacts gets checked and backup, any social apps WILL use your data in the background, Google PlayStore in check for updates, Google Maps in getting new maps (as you travel) and adding location accuracy (with cellular towers), Google Street View in downloading the street view for you, Calendar will check Google and update, free apps that have ads will download the ads, some apps will be running in the background checking stuff online and downloading from online, and so much more WILL be using your Cellular data throughout the day and night on everyday.
When it comes to free apps you can buy the paid ad-free apps. But by the time you do that with all apps you will end up spending as much as it would if you just get the $30.00 per month unlimited data plan. I know that because I hate ads so much that I spend money for the paid ad-free apps.
At the end you better off either going for the $30.00 unlimited data plan or go for a feature phone that does what you want it to. With what you want to do with the device you are better off with a feature phone.
But if you do go for Galaxy Note 2 go for the Unlimited data plan and try to learn the features of this device. Hopefully you will learn to love or at least like the features enough that you would never again think of not having data plan with the device. But my fear for you is that the experience in trying not to use data service is going to be a very bad experience for you. But at least you were forewarned.
You can remove the data plan at anytime if you buy it from AT&T, not sure about other places.
There is a few problems with your plan. T-mobile version of the note 2 is worth more in the used market than AT&T version, so you may find it hard to do an even exchange.
Secondly AT&T do sweeps to detect smartphones more regularly now. It may be able to detect the Tmobile version of note 2 very soon.

We are both trying to tell the OP what to expect in his situation.
I know it's a little bit of an inconvenience not having mobile data, but I have been using a T-Mobile HTC HD2 for the last 2 years without a mobile data plan, just fine. If there is something I need to do that requires internet, i'm patient enough to wait until I can get on Wi-Fi, make a reminder in the calender for when I have time and problem solved. I still have Windows 6.5, which kinda sucks, on it. And I also have Android ported onto it using the memory card. So if I'm traveling somewhere I restart the phone and boot into Windows and use my TomTom GPS program. Then after, I boot back into Android and in the settings there is a checkbox that I can check to keep my phone from using a mobile data connection, so I've been doing just fine. And the GN2 will be a step up from this phone and not that much money out of my wallet.

I actually already bought the GN2 on black friday, from at&t as a contract upgrade, it was kind of an impulse buy, i'm a penny pincher... I know, kinda weird when we are talking about a $700 phone, right? ...LOL But, I try to save money where I can. I took it back on Tuesday night, because a co-worker told me about the deal at walmart. So I'm gonna go get it from them. From Saturday to Tuesday I was streaming football and basketball games for a few hours everyday, over wi-fi, just fine. I checked my data usage on the phone with the included apps and I was barely even using anything, it was only a few MB's or so, that is probably when I was playing around with it before I connected it to my home and work Wi-Fi, 4G at my work was extremely slow, so I connected to Wi-Fi and was much faster, and I was thinking to myself, if 4g is that damn slow, i don't need to be throwing money away at it... Me and another co-worker that works in my same department were wondering how fast the mobile data is so, I was trying to go to speedtest.net to test the speed and it would never even completely load the page up. I didn't even try the wi-fi speedtest at work, because i was ready to clock out and go home... I did the speedtest at my home from wi-fi and on 4g and my wi-fi kicked the **** out of the 4g, the 4g didn't even get over 1MB! I don't need to have my apps all connected to mobile data all the time, I've used facebook, ebay, craigslist, google play store, checked email and the apps that have the ads don't really bother me, not that big of a deal to me. Sometimes they are annoying, but for me I'd rather see the ad then racking up money by buying all the paid apps. I might buy a few apps that I really like but probably not very many, who knows.. ...And on a sidenote, i don't see a $30 unlimited data plan anywhere, is that a T-Mobile or AT&T plan?

The Faster Upgrade is a good one. Not so sure this forum is the place for the Bootloaders. The forum seems to be mainly focused on services offered by AT&T.
How about telling them that their own U-verse app for their Uverse Service will not install or work on their Note 2 phone?
Keyword is this is major customer dissatisfier...
Let us tether without having to buy a separate tethering plan! Especially if we have the grandfathered unlimited data plan :laugh:

This is my biggest issue as well as many others. Why can't we have both. Now don't hate me here... (I hardly ever use more then 2GB a month anyways) but, I think they should let us have free tethering with unlimited data and then they can slow us down after 5 GB. It would be a way so in emergency's it would be available and I wouldn't have to worry about incurring an addition cost.....
As for the we paid for unlimited argument... for me I never really use that much but I see the validity of the argument.
My proposal is simply: sure you can tether, but if you blow though all your data we are going to slow you down..... little steps my friends little steps.
I'd ask about markets with slow HSPA+ speeds. I'd heard that there's a difference between "HSPA+" and "HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul". Are they rolling out this "enhanced backhaul" to more markets, or are they just focusing on their slowly growing LTE?

I agree with you. I have AT&T's grandfathered 'unlimited' plan but I have never gone above 2GB in a month, except two months ago. I was travelling for business and tethered my laptop to my phone to stream some online videos and pushed 3GB while tethering. I got a letter in the mail next week telling me that I couldn't do that again after the 30th of the month or they would convert me to a tethering plan. I'm not asking to let me tether on my unlimited plan to let me push tens of GB's, I simply want to be able to tether my tablet or laptop while traveling for work.
I was going to get the 3g Nexus 7 but settled on the GN2 since I wouldn't have to either a) but a tethering plan for my SGS3 or b) buy a separate data plan for my new tablet. The GN2 solves the tablet issue for me (probably a separate thread altogether).

Tell that to our One X and Atrix compatriots. Carriers dictate locked bootloaders (and the inability to unlock them, like at htcdev.com)
Ditto the need for faster OS upgrades from AT&T. If they want to keep customers, they'll have to learn to be more nimble. (Painful for a huge corporation, but it can be done.)
Tell them to lose Isis. The people want Google wallet, not Isis.

I would like to see the primary line on a family plan get back the 12 month upgrade cycle.
Also, I think phone warranties should last at least until upgrade eligibility. Or, they should let people upgrade early if their phone breaks between warranty end and upgrade eligibility.

Faster firmware updates, better communication about when we are going to get updates (Why do Sprint and Verizon have multiview, for example, but we don't? AT&T isn't saying anything about it), removal of bloatware from the ROMs/stop tinkering with ROMs, and find out why we don't have original packaging (anyone else miss their Samsung Tin or headphones?). You might also suggest unlimited LTE plans with 2-3 Gig plans for fallback 3G.
As an aside, I am happy with AT&T :good: as a carrier, and not only is my whole family with them, but so is my business. I can say (without any other connection to AT&T) that I have received exceptional service when I go to my local AT&T store.
I wanted to make sure and mention the positive because i have found more traction when bringing up some positives in these types of discussions, versus sounding like i am blasting them. I hope this helps you.

I think in the big scheme of things the xda members are a fairly small segnent of the business, but that being said, we're not a bunch of dummies, we're all very up to date on what's available as far as equipment and which carrier has which features. So we're small, but educated, don't assume we're unaware of what other carriers are doing and what our phones are capable of.
1. Support Google Wallet
2. More options for data plans. As previous poster said, Allow unlimited data plans that have LTE for up to X amount of GB, then fall to 3G. Maybe even fall to EDGE after 10 GB.
3. Forget tethering nonsense. Data is data, does it matter whether it through the phone or tethered to a computer?
4. Maybe institute tiered fees to allow earlier upgrades of hardware while under contract. Maybe 100$ fee after 6 months, 50$ after a year, etc
5. Most important - faster OTA updates!!!
Plans to bring back favorite numbers? ie. unlimited calling to numbers saved as favorite numbers...
It's still offered on other providers(verizon) and i dont want to pay $30 for some messaging plan with free any mobile to mobile..
Give us tethering without having to pay extra for it.
Approve Samsungs firmware updates quicker.
Give me my Samsung original packaging, I want my headphones.

I have a 10gb plan and I only pay 10$ per device to share the data plan.... Yes of course I could turn my Nexus 4 into a hotspot but i would use 2 devices to complete one task... I'm not gonna kill my Nexus 4 battery just to surf on my Nexus 7 that's ridiculous... I rather see my tablet have it's own connection....

Exactly. It's completely worth the price for the convenience alone. I don't want to have to reach for my phone and my tablet every time I need it, and I'll certainly not just leave my phone constantly broadcasting wifi.
I've been waiting on this since before I/O earlier this year.

If you run CyanogenMod or almost any other custom ROM, the hotspot is built into the OS, you don't pay anything.

True, but my HTC One is stock and staying that way until a stable CM release is available as I'm in no big hurry to hack it at this point.
Also, it's somewhat against the ToS to tether without paying for it so I'm always a little iffy on the topic regardless of what ROM I'm running.
I dont pay nothing for tethering all i use is foxfi been tethering since i had the first n7

I don't really see why they would give you grief about it. As stiff as the competition is I think your carrier is probably more worried about you giving them the boot than anything. If you had unlimited data and used an insane amount they might care but even then I think they'd just throttle you. (not physically)
At least on my i717 you could use TiBu to freeze a system app which controlled tethering and if you had a widget you could do wifi tethering with just root and a stock rom.

...which is why i'm glad i have a Note 2 as a cell phone. Battery lasts eons and for the brief periods i would need data when out and about, it would suffice just well. Everyone's use case scenario is different. I could tether for hours via my Note 2 and not hit the battery a lick. Bluetooth tethering is also an option as well.

Here's the question for me... will the Nexus 7 (2013) LTE support internet tethering. I'm talking about providing it for other devices, not tethering to another device like a phone (what would be the point of getting a tablet that can do cellular data if I have to tether it to a phone that does cellular data)?
The Nexus 7 (2012) couldn't do this out of the box - making it one of the very few modern Android devices like this that couldn't.
I know there are modded ROMs that can, in theory, do this (although from what I've read so far, they're iffy and aren't exactly easy to use), but I'd rather have it right there in the official ROMs.
In the end, if it can't do tethering and it can't be used as a real phone, then I'm thinking the LTE/3G isn't that useful. It would be more practical to connect to my phone and get the wifi version now rather than waiting. Especially since I'd have to buy another data plan anyway.
The big question for me is could I use it as a phone (preferably with stock SMS and Phone apps)? Everyone has pretty solid LTE coverage here, so I'm not all that worried, especially considering my average use of less than a minute.

Any chance you found an answer to your question? I recall seeing some dev post on getting gsm calls working on the 2012 N7 3G, maybe we'll see something like that for the Flo as well...

Me too!! Sprint has the entire area around me blanketed in LTE!!!
I use my WIFI at home, at only need to tether if I'm out shopping. I'm on Disability now after a bad car wreck, but when I go back to work any dealership I go to (ASE certified automotive technician) will have WIFI for me to use. Used it on my Asus Infinity at the dealership I was at before my wreck.

My Note 2 gets excellent battery life, plus I've got a spare OEM battery, external battery charger, and 12,000mah external battery pack with dual USB ports that allows charging from both simultaneously!! I never run out of juice no matter where I'm at, or how long I'm there for. I pay Sprint for unlimited data, so why not take advantage of it !! Having fast LTE everywhere around me (I average 30Mbps download at home) is just icing on the cake!!

Everyone's use case scenario is different. I could tether for hours via my Note 2 and not hit the battery a lick. Bluetooth tethering is also an option as well.

Sounds very similar to my setup! Very simple to setup and use! I don't see why people say that it's too much of a hassle to tether from their phone. Takes me 10 seconds to start tethering on my phone, and it just sits in my tablet's carrying case while I'm using my tablet. It's not in my way or any kind of hassle what so ever! I'd much rather spend 10 seconds to start tethering on my phone, than spend $10 or more every month for an additional data plan!!
