How to install uzip files for widgets? - Nexus 7 (2013) Themes and Apps

The Nexus 7 is my first Android device and I am floored by how amazing and easy it is to customize it. I found a really nice clock widget and a Google Search widget I like on these forums. I downloaded both and they are in .uzip formats. What is the best way to get them onto the device to install them?

You should be able to import it directly from the app. Also check out the zipper widget app.

I got the clock working with UCCW. So, that's good now. But I have a Google Search Bar that is in .uzip format. But, I'm not sure which app I use for that.

It works fine for the clock. But, for the search bar it doesn't actually function like the clock does
I wish I could link to it so you know what I'm talking about. I need 10 posts.

can you describe what's not working? does uccw give you an error or does it load?

After installing some other uzips I've noticed uccw isn't exclusively for clocks. But its a Google search uzip but when I click it, it opens uccw instead of allowing me to search

Go into the uccw settings and turn on the hotspot

If you mean the one below its in system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and its called mainmenu_icon_application.
Grab a theme or rom that has this launcher included and unzip it with 7zip then go get it.
Is it possible to do that from my phone? Won't it tell me the apk is already installed? My computer is out of comission for a minute

Edit: I was able to extract the file but when I try to set it in launcher pro I can't find it... I can find the folder its in but it doesn't show up
Edit #2: got it just had to run the meddia scanner thanks for the help
No worries, glad it worked.

Widgetsoid2 widgets - very configurable, use background from your gallery for contacts.
Gasks - nice scrollable one for agenda and tasks.
N7 Player
Any Go Launcher shortcut - replace with any png image.
Excellent, thanks!
Does anyone know if there is a Whatsapp widget for counting unread messages?

I use HD Widgets for time and weather. I have the paid version. Not sure what the free one is like.

I use GO Launcher and GO Notifications for unread count. You have to search for the Go Notifications apk since the Play store says not compatible. I can confirm it works with Gmail and K9.

I have downloaded and installed the apk but I can find no sign of it anywhere. Could you tell me where to look for it? Thanks!
Edit: What I mean is that I don't get the option to open the file after install. Where did you find your apk?

I'm kind of partial to the widgets below:
Weathereye (having issues at the moment): http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citc.weather&feature=nav_result#
Minimalistic Text: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext&feature=search_result#
Flipboard: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flipboard.app&feature=search_result#
Power toggles: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc&feature=search_result#
Simple Calendar: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anod.calendar&feature=search_result#
If you want to see what it looks like check the post your home screen thread here.
UCCW - most customizable clock/weather/whatever widget available, check XDA main Themes forum for UCCW thread with 100s of themes
Minimal Reader - for news
Jorte - for Calendar
I use AOKP so no need for power toggles since they are in the dropdown...
Beautiful widgets has a nice selection of weather widgets.
You talkin' to me? GO notify is part of the GO app. If you hit settings and scroll to the right, you'll see notifications (after you installed the apk), click it and lets you set notifications for various things. It's not an app or widget, but does show up in system apps list.

If only they would fix the dynamic sizing option in their 4x1 weather. Using it at the moment until weathereye gets sorted. /rant
Another vote for power toggles here. Works well with the default theme (appearance wise)

[q] default wallpaper location

Where is the default wallpaper location on the T989? I have downloaded some nice wallpapers, but I want to know how to add them to the phone so they can be selected from the wallpaper menu.

you can add them to the "pictures" or "downloads" folder or make a new subfolder titled "wallpaper" under "pictures" if you want
OK thanks.
I thought there was something you had to edit in system/framework/

I don't know how to add them to the "wallpaper chooser" but functionally it's easy to add them from a downloads or pics folder.

To add to the wallpaper chooser, you have to go to system/app take the wallpaper apk out (this could vary depending on the ROM) and open it with zip or extract with an apk manager. Then switch the jpg's out with your own.

Absolutely... when editing your uccw widget tap the menu to enable hot spots. Do a search for uccw and you'll find some really cool pre made stuff with a ton of instructions. I'll find my favorite thread for you....

Hi. This appears to be an answer to something I have been trying to figure out. I've read the thread you posted, and have played pretty extensively with the Tasker app. I think I have done a lot of reading trying to solve this, but maybe am just not searching accurately. Could you point me somewhere that will explain how to set up a home screen folder?
My problem is an aesthetic one. I want my UCCW icons to look like icons for specific apps. For example, I have Keep on my home screen as an app, and a folder with FaceBook and BaconReader in it. I would love to have these use UCCW to define the folder, if possible.
I have Simi Folder, and I can sort of do what I want with it, but that app is not an ideal solution due to its lack of support.
Thanks.

Homescreen icon location

Clould anyone point me to the location of the icons for the home screen are please? I'm using IconFinder to make me a custom homescreen but it's a hasle to have to store them into Gallery and then crop... would me much easier if they would just pop up with the theme icons.
Thanks

Others, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but they are built in to an apk, so you would have to extract the apk, change the icons, and then reconsruct the apk.

I believe you're right. It's been a while since I've decompiled a launcher. In any event, if anyone does need to decompile and recompile an .apk I would recommend elesbb's APK Tool GUI. Makes the whole job very easy. Once you have all of your icon images you should be able to drag and drop them into their appropriate folders and recompile.
Thank you for the replies! I was hopping to be an easy-breeze doing but I guess not... I will try the tool you recommended: ) Wish me luck
