[Q] Buy now or wait for a custom ROM? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I totally intend on running CM or some other ROM once it's available. Is the stock ROM decent enough to use now and just move to a better ROM later, or should I hold off and wait till a custom ROM is available? I can hold on to my Gnex for a while longer.

Well if you dont get it then the HTC Dev unlock will be gone so there wont be a choice for custom roms.

Do we know that for sure? Or is the fact we're not sure the problem?

They aren't supportive of development and they have had HTC block devices from dev unlocking in the past.

Stock ROM w/ OC?

My friend has a slide but wants it to run faster. He doesn't want to lose Sense. What could I recommend for him to flash for a faster device but stock Sense?

All he need is to have root, you cannot make any changes to the phone without root.

Sorry I wasn't clear, yeah I know he needs root but he wants the standard Sense UI ROM but with possibly an OC'd kernal.
Not happening.... yet
So far as I know there is no way to oc the stock rom, rooted or not. Hopefully we'll be able to at some point. I think sense UI is an HTC thing so you may be hard pressed to find a custom rom with it, worth a shot though. Otherwise your friend is sol at the moment.

Tell your friend to update to CR's OTA rom, then he can OC like me to 806 if he wants. Hell he can keep it at 806 24/7 for all i care .
Ok thanks for the info guys. I'll let him know.

Check the dev forum. There is a kernel that can be OC'd.
Yeah, ran across that kernel before, there's 3 or 4 versions with different clocks. I think it's only for CyanogenMod or some other one. Maybe I'll try it with the stock rom, may end up with a paperweight though. But hey stranger things have happened

My phone is stock, rooted, and overclocked. 806/806 conservative, and 245/245 on lock screen. It can be done, and it is painless!

Still haven't got around to trying any of the kernels but it seems like I'll have to get the ball rolling now. Have you tried any of the other CM kernels with the stock rom?

Only use the ones that have "cm-espresso' in it. dont use it if it only has cm cause somethings may become broken....For example your led light(camera) might not function anymore...Those kernels with only cm are targeted to froyo roms based off the cm source.

Custom Image in sight? Read on...

The defy doesn't have some proprietary kernel lock like I was told, the kernel and ramdisk are just packaged different than normal.

Good news from Handler_Exploit ???
Check out his twittering
sounds interesting!
no bootloader?
Steve that's not what he meant. There is a bootloader, and a recovery. What he's saying is that the kernel doesn't have to be signed with a proprietary encryption key from Motorola to be able to function. At least that's my interpretation.
Meaning that once you get a recovery, we will be able to compile stuff from source. Meaning 2.2 it's possible before released by Motorola
sounds good,whatever,defy is great phone
If it turns out this phone is wide open for hacking, that'll be a sign I should sell my Milestone for a Defy.
sense
I am porting sense from desire hd to the defy . who has time to support me
What about Froyo Vanilla?
Just hit me up if you guys need hosting for your roms. I have 30/30 fiber at home, lots of space (relatively speaking) and I could dial that fiber up to 90/90 if necessary

Oh yes please! Froyo w. LauncherPro is so damn nice!
Awesome. I just didn't get a Defy yet because of this Motoblur ****. As soon as custom recovery or custom roms are out I'm gonna rush to the next shop and get one.

Install Launcher Pro from the market and you'll never see MotoBloat again. You coul root it, install Titanium Backup and get rid of anything you don't want

Right, but I just don't want to be forced to stick with a stock Motorola kernel and Andoid 2.2 or whatever they release...

Uuuh, I guess I'd like that one. But I'd like to have that one when I decide it's time and not when Motorola decides to do something.
I guess I really need to get that phone and start hacking myself.

Maybe I just don't know enough about these things but that strikes me as a good question.
If it's possible to get Froyo on there before Motorola pull their collective fingers out, then it must be just as possible to get a working Gingerbread ROM, right?

[Q] HTC Releases ICS for the DHD

I dont know if this is the right topic to put it but i still do it
http://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/26819/htc-maakt-bekend-welke-telefoons-een-update-naar-ics-krijgen
Is a dutch website.
It says something like, here is the list of all devices which will get an ICS update in the beginning of the year 2012.
And dhd is listed, will this mean that we get a proper ics?
And a aosp rom of it?
I don't wanna blame you, but this list is out for some time now.
And yes, it means we will get a proper ICS for DHD. Or at least the right Camera drivers for DHD!!! There are already some nice Builds to use!

Yea i know there are different roms avaible, but their all ports of other devices, and none of them run flawlessly, and it doesnt seem to matter which radio you use.
Therefore i asked if there will be a proper aosp ics rom?
Think it was more like an announcement from HTC that ICS will be coming to these devices in the next few weeks.
So I guess HTC will release "ICS" for HTC Ace around April 1st ^_~ lol
Don't get your hopes up. HTC takes forever to roll out updates
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
If my DHD only s-off and rooted with official version 2.3.5, will I still receive official ICS update?

No, not until HTC releases their drivers and kernel.
I am currently on IceColdSanwich and I love it. But the glitches and things.. Well if HTC is smooth and fast (well maybe!!) I might give up on flashing my phone every week.
:-D
cant wait to get the ice from htc but wright now im on the IceColdSandwich - 7.0 - AOKP | ERROR404 EDITION and it runs great

rom or wait for official?

So ive got a D851, and as most of you know, Lollipop still isnt out yet, should be out soon no doubt, but ive read that there are a lot of bugs and issues and what not with the official version of Lollipop. So my question is, would i be better off waiting for the official Lollipop or getting a L based rom?

Yes but it's only a matter of time before a fix comes out. Nothing better than running stock official firmware. Too many roms have different bugs. Unless you want try and find the one that has less.

I guess youre right. Thanks!
Either way, you're going to have bugs. Some are very well documented on any device for which Lollipop has been released.
My thought is to wait for the custom ROMs based from the D851 stock. By that time, many of the existing bugs will have been squashed or have acceptable work-arounds. You also end up with the best of both worlds, think of it as customized stock.
From what I hear, official Lollipop has a lot of bugs or rather annoying quirks, and that no had yet to find a way to unlock the bootloader, so would it be smart to wait for the official update, or root right now and get a L based rom?

I guess it really doesn't matter what you download and flash. Official lollipop has bugs and any L rom you get now has many bugs also. As for me I'm sticking with zonerom until something solid comes out.
What do u recommend I do? Wait or use a rom?

I played with a couple of the roms last week. The plus is the battery, it rocks. Couple bugs: 1. Touch sensitivity is not very good 2. Radio (noticed I lost connection in places I normally don't)

[HELP] Dev needed to developing our device

Please dev..
We curently need some dev to develop our device..
It's been 11 months since the phone released to public and there's no Costom Rom's like Miui, CM, etc except AOSP by fxp but the latest rom its not booted. So please dev or anyone makes those costom rom, so development on Our device can keep moving and keep growing like other devices. Maybe you dev made us costom rom, we have no objection to donate as well
Yeah, thats all
So please dev consider this.
Thank you
we wont get a dev just by asking bcuz no one will buy a phone just to develop, and... we wont get Lollipop official, so people wont buy this phone.
