Boot Looping - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Was this a problem on the first Note tablet? As I get to installing a lot of apps, over 500 is what I have, I've found that the tablet is going through an infinite boot loop. I'm talking to a Samsung rep online now about it. I've tried taking out the sd card, putting it back it, etc. It appears that some are going through this too with the Galaxy Note 3.

Updating my status. Through my own research, instead of trying to install all 500 at once, I've taken a more modest approach. I'm installing apps 4 at a time, letting it finish, powering down, then starting back up. It's working. I can get to my home screen without problem now. Maybe 500+ apps was too much of a strain for the file system to endure.

it would be pretty stupid if that's the case. it would seem a bug if anything, and serious for some. installing that 500th (or whatever the breaking point would be) at the wrong time could be disastrous.
perhaps we'll her more about it this weekend when the rest of us start getting ours. only i don't really have 500 apps that i want installed, lol.

+1... That is exactly what I do however i install about 10 apps at a time then reboot then do another 10, ETC...
...Sent from my Tablet...Please excuse any typo's...

500 is a big number for most people. i know some people who barely have 10 apps downloaded. i've got quite a bit but definitely not 500...

Yes I would agree with that as well, I don't know that I would have a advocate having 500 applications I think I may have 30 or 40 at the most

Please keep in mind that some apps my not be fully compatible with android 4.3 yet.

Mine goes through the Samsung animation 5 times... I'm not sure at what point started doing that. I have around 100 apps and I feel very lazy to reset it and install a few apps at the time to see if that fixes the problem... Anyway I wonder what the apps have to do with the booting?
For reference I'm using: Nova Launcher, Swiftkey and not rooted yet.
Maybe a future update will fix this....?

The question really is... Is that really a problem? Defective unit? Or an Android/Samsung software issue? Because it boots up anyway and works with no apparent problems... Is everyone else going through a similar/same issue?

DO NOT do this!! I did this on my own note 10.1 2014 after a bootlooping issue caused by corrupt files on my sd card (or so Ive theorized), and after doing so, my software showed as CUSTOM in the settings, and would not let me access the update servers. It was only after restoring the firmware via kies (a long and involved process, though less than odin, which probably would work too) that I was able to get it back to "Official". So unless you want to go through what I did, DO NOT factory reset via recovery. Id recommend doing everything else possible to fix this first.

[Q] Got angry and messed up phone, desperate need of help please

Phone: Rooted Samsung Galaxy s3
Rom: Cyanogenmod 10.1.2
Using Twrp not CWM
It all started with the freezing problem during gaming only, all games I would play would freeze after 2-20 mins of play time, but it would only freeze for 2-5 mins then start working again, but then it would freeze again soon after. It got worse and worse after a few days went by, started freezing more often. I've tried researching and tried everything suggested. Tried Lagfix trim app, Dummy File Generator app, flashing to a older version rom that I did not have problems with before, nothing worked. I pretty much got pissed off and went into TWRP recovery mode and wiped everything and forgot to have a backup. Now I don't have anything and the phone is not rooted anymore so the phone says. I am pretty much a noob at this stuff. I have no clue what to do now since I have no rom to flash and when I try to restart the phone is says I have no OS system..What do I do?!? Please HELP!
From what ive read in the past u need to flash a stock rooted rom. U can find that here.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947. Just download put on ur sdcard and flash.

I've got all the other problems sorted in out now. Phone is actually working, but the freezing still persist. I don't have any power saving apps on and I'm going to try dummy file generator again.. I've also downloaded the app brickbug, but it said my phone is not affected. I pretty much don't know what's wrong, the for the suggestions everyone. Anyone have a clue on why I'm freezing when only playing games?
Did ur game update recently when all this started? I know there was a very good app that use and it updated once and just started force closing everytime it opened. Maybe uninstall any updates u have for that game. If its all games its probabaly kernal or rom related inwhich u will have to talk to a bigger brain than I lol

Try disabling Hardware Overlays by checking the box in Developer Options about 3/4ths of the way down in the list and see if that prevents the intermittent freezing.

Yeah, no updates.. It's for all games. I'm still running cm10.1.2 with ktoon kernel.. It seems to have gotten better but still freezes. I've tried everything that I have researched besides a different rom and kernel. I want to stay on this rom and kernel though, besides the freezing in games, the phone runs incredibly smooth and fast.

Hmmmm... not well as I recall. Had to do a restore through Keis. But that was awhile ago, like 4 months. This problem has only manifested in the past two.
Clear cache, if doesn't help take a nandroid and reset.
If isn't stable, reflash firmware and then optionally restore applications.

NoleKat Rom for T210(R) Q & A

This is a Q and A thread about the Kitkat based NoleKat rom for T210(R).
Please post any questions you may have about the rom here in this thread. I will do my best to answer.
Here are a few of the common questions:
Q: Does ART work?
A: No, this is a deodexed rom (ART requires Odexed). The option has also been hidden by Samsung.
Q: Why doesn't the boot animation display?
A: Boot animation works fine for some and doesn't display for others. This is due to the difference in hardware versions (likely due to different manufacturing dates). We have tried to fix this in the kernel, but it caused other (worse) issues.
Q: Why can't I connect to wifi and wifi settings causes black screen?
A: I have no idea why some (very few) devices have these issues. If your device has these issues, I am sorry, but I don't know how to fix it.
Q: Does this rom support OTG?
A: No, it is a hardware limitation. The T210(R) will never have OTG.
I will update this list as necessary.

Nice thought dude ! :good:

Firstly, thanks for the brilliant work, as soon as my wallet has something in it ill donate for sure. The main problem im having is lack of gps. I use my sm-t210 at work as a satnav, but all versions so far, I have been unable to get a connection. Ive installed "faster gps" but still nothing. At the mo im having to restore to 4.1 everytime I need satnav, and my internal memory is running low as I cant wipe it or I have to download my satnav map again.
Any ideas please?

And i was so excited in getting the lollipop OTA, i skipped some of the regular prep list before upgrading out of sheer excitement :crying:
So they're still here, just not accessible through gallery. Should I unprivate or zip them? There aren't really any other available options than that

Unprivating them through the stock file manager didnt change them back to their original form, just literally moved the encrypted (i assume thats how it works) files from the protected private partition to the unprotected partition of the sd card, without unencrypting them. So still no better off than i was before. A reboot didnt work either.:crying:

It's just a idea, but you can try to put them on your sd card, use Odin downgrade back to 4.4.4 then put them in private an try to unprivate them and see if it works but it's a long shot...
plus would take alot of time, maybe there is a app on the play store?

Damn, the same thing just happened to me. When I activate Private Mode, I can see it mount files under /storage/Private but they are renamed and look to be encrypted. How did this get past any kind of testing???
I tried activating KNOX to see if that helped. Doesn't look like it did. I can see why Sammy decided to disable it by default...runs much smoother.
However, unfortunate for all those private photos seemingly lost.
Searching around I found Galaxy S5 users that complained of this same thing happening when they went to Lollipop. So it looks like this was a known issue! But they have no solution either that I could find.
Does Android have a history of listening to user complaints and coming out with a fix in the near future?
Some way to unencrypt them..
Same thing happened to me. Had anyone had luck downgrading and unencrypting that way? Can we report the issue to samsung? I lost a ton of important info for my job.
I have the same problem.
I was talking to samsung support via twitter. They said that in the next FOTA it will import the previous encrypted files...

Depends, how clean are you trying to make it?
I remove a ton of stuff, but I do actually use a few of the Asus apps.
I'd also like to see if we could create a list of everything you can uninstall, personally until CM12 comes to the ZF2 I'd like to uninstall every single non-essential ASUS application to the point where my device is as close to stock android as possible. Anyone know of such a list?

If you're unrooted, you can't uninstall system apps with the regular uninstall process. It will only uninstall updates back to the stock build version. Then it will update again from the Play Store, which is probably what you're seeing.

You can disable some apps, but that's about it for ones that it won't let you fully uninstall.

Yes go to play store type asus apps

Once deleted reboot if it seems stuck on splash screen press power button till it powers down
Then power on your phone HEY PRESTO ALL THE CRAP GONE

I posted a ROM with a list of what I removed.
Please feel free to let me know about more things that can go.
Plus I'm still expanding on it. This is an early pass of what can go.
List can be seen HERE under the hidden content button (didn't want to blow up the post too much).
