Working Tap and Pay In Google Wallet - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Ok so I can now confirm that Tap and Pay in google Wallet can work.
Just used it and am Drinking Redbull Purchased from 7-Eleven 10 mins ago.
I used the attached modified APK ( done by Loserskater) from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45710314&postcount=3276
Quick step by step
I am using EclipticOne Rom
1 Go to Manage apps and delete all data for installed wallet app
2 Used Titanium to uninstall app since it is a system app.
3 Reboot to recovery and wipe Dalvik Cache (and as safety measure I also wiped Cache not sure it's ness)
4 Used ES file explorer (root explorer will do the job as well) And Moved modded apk to system/app and changed permissions to rw- r-- r--
5 reboot phone
6 open wallet let it do its thing And when finished top box on screen said setup Tap and Pay so i did so. ( should mention I already have wallet acct and used on S3 previously so did not need to add or pick a card)
7 app said setting up tap and pay this will take several minutes. Closed app set phone down did other things for about 10mins. Came back opened app said tap and pay is setup !!!!
8 went to settings>about and saw Device is ready for tap and pay purchases under the Tap And Pay heading.
9 closed app and updated via play store since current version is 14 not 9 like modded apk
10 reboot Profit !!! Ran to store got redbull for busy night ahead
Again this MOD is not mine it was done by Loserskater
I should mention I have a the NFC sim from Verizon. Not sure if it is required would need input from those without it. I suspect it is as it supposedly has a secure element of its own.
P.S. Do not Log out of Wallet after update it will likely stop working if you do

Wow its actually says it works... Will update when I actually try it out. Thanks man. Oh and I'm also using EclipticONE.

When I try to move the apk to system apps it says permission denied???

I had the same error with ES and used Root Browser to successfully move the apk and change the permissions.

Just verified that this method does NOT work on the stock rom. I'm probably going to hold out for a Venom release but just wanted to verify that this does not work on stock.
I was under the impression that the secure element in the SIM card could not be used for Wallet but if you have it running successfully, that's awesome.

Did the app say that tap and pay was set up and ready to use? I'm on stock rom and it says it is ready to go but I haven't tried it out yet. I will walk down to the store in a little bit to try it out.

For me it said that tap and pay was not available. But it worked for you, huh? I'll go through the process again and see if I might have made a mistake somewhere.

On first use of ES you need to go to tools root explorer and set it to mount system as rw (read and write ) not RO (read only )
then should be able to do it with no problem
But ES is not required Root explorer does same thing i just prefer ES

Confirmed to work on stock rom. Just used it at 7-eleven.

Looks like it's not the app but Google has finally updated the app itself. Just downloaded from the market and everything is working when tap and pay.

I'm having a problem now. I installed it on Vanir, worked perfectly.. Installed a nightly build which had force close problems so I reinstalled my ROM, which in turn uninstalled wallet, tried the exact same method as before, yet tap to pay is gone. Any ideas?

This is not true for verizon users, unless you change your prop.build manually prior to downloading from market. Essentially telling the app its a different phone

You will probably need to go to wallet on your pc and deactivate your device. Then retry making sure to wipe data from the app prior to uninstalling it. Do a full reboot then continue

I have been able to install the modfied app by flashing it right after flashing a rom (before reboot)
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

For those of you having trouble copying the app. Either open a terminal emulator or connect to your computer (preferred) and run adb shell.
Enter following command to mount system read/write and allow copy:
"mount -o remount,rw /system"
Copy the file either via shell or es file explorer.
Reboot or type: "mount -o remount,ro /system" to make sure system is read only again.
After reboot, run wallet and follow OP instructions.
I've got my phone set up and tap and pay activated. Works like a charm. I DO NOT have a NFC sim. I have my original SIM from my Thunderbolt cut down.

Was having issues with it working properly. It would copy for me, and install the app w Reboot, but 'Tap and Pay' wasn't working (even though devices showed it as a GNex).
In order to get rid of everything (I had previously tried to install it) I had to:
Install the app from the play store
THEN clear the cache/data
THEN uninstall it (I did NOT use Ti for this, I deleted it from system/apps and data/apps using Root Explorer)
I also cleared the device from Google Wallet online (Disable > Remove)
I think the prior version I tried to install had some lingering data that was bad? Who knows. Didnt really want to deal with a factory reset though..
I did NOT use the APK from this thread, I used the one from here: Method 3 - AOSP. I dont think that matters.
Worked fine after that by copying the APK then reboot. (did not wipe dalvik/cache! Though Im not sure that really matters either.)
I havent tested it in a store yet, but I cant imagine Ill run into any issues.
Running:
S-Off, Root, Cyanogenmod 10.2
Stock HTC One SIM (So, not a "secure" VZW SIM if I understand correctly)
Hope this clears things up for anyone still having issues

Thanks!! This worked perfectly on VanirAOSP. Going to try to buy a drink at the vending machine and I will report back.
EDIT: Did not work on the vending machine. I have an NFC capable credit card and that worked fine so there is nothing wrong with the machine. Disappointing!

What's weird is that nothing happens when I tap to pay. The machine doesn't recognize any contact. On the previous Google Wallet mod a month or two ago, it would register the contact but the payment would fail.

APK method
Prerequisites
You need:
(NOT in the US only) A rooted device
(NOT in the US only) Market Enabler
A device running Android 4.0.2+
com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.apk saved on your device
General Instructions
Pull down the notification bar and hit the settings icon next to the date. Then choose "About phone" at the bottom. If "Android version" is NOT listed as "4.0.2", "4.0.3" or "4.0.4", you need to update to a new version. Do that before continuing.
Now, what needs to happen next depends on where you are:
I'm not in the US!
If you're NOT in the US, you'll need to be rooted. Grab Market Enabler from the Android Market and install it.
Run Market Enabler and set yourself as "US T-Mobile".
Now follow the US instructions.
I'm in the US!
Open the Wallet APK on your phone e.g. using ASTRO/File Expert/Root Explorer/the download manager.
Now just open Wallet, and it should correctly authorise.
Troubleshooting
Help! Google Wallet says "Unsupported Device!"
This means that you're on a rooted device, and is perfectly normal. Transactions will still work - it's just Google's way of letting you know that you may be less secure than you would be normally, as rooted apps will be able to access Google Wallet internal files. Be vigilant when approving root access!
Secure Element not responding!
If you have a Nandroid backup of a version of Wallet that worked, try restoring to that. Otherwise, you're screwed unless you get a new device. The Secure Element in your phone has now locked you out.
EDIT: research seems to show that Android is not actually enabling NFC-EE, which might be why it can't communicate with the SE. This needs further research.
To try to avoid this, before flashing a new ROM please, please, PLEASE: open Google Wallet. Open the Wallet Settings menu. Select "Reset Google Wallet" from within the app. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS SELECTING "CLEAR DATA" FROM WITHIN MANAGE APPS!
The Google Wallet reset system will disable it's background services, reset the secure element by deleting the Google Wallet applet (which is what you want!), clear the database, ping C2DM that it is now deprovisioning, clear the shared preferences, clear files and cache, and finally shut itself down. Clearing data from Manage Apps will only delete the database and shared preferences: it will not deprovision, disable background services, and most importantly will not remove the Wallet applet from the secure element.
Insufficient Privileges. Insufficient secure element privileges for this system image (release-keys)
Err, what? This should only occur if you previously used the ZIP method. If so, you'll need to manually restore the old versions of the files.
This can be achieved by either restoring a Nandroid backup from before you flashed OR by following instructions in this post.
I have something not answered here!
Post in this topic and it'll probably get answered pretty quickly.
I restored a backup and Wallet isn't working
Try uninstalling then reinstalling the APK. This should get the SE back in sync with the Wallet status.

Adding Funds
I flashed the zip you posted in the original Google Wallet forum earlier today after wiping cache/formatting etc and this worked fine on the stock rom, I now have my $10 pre paid card all set up.
Have any of you worked out a way to add funds to this card or is the Citi card the only way to use this more often?
Thanks for all your work

To add funds to your Google Prepaid card:
1) On your device, open Wallet app.
2) Choose Payment Cards.
3) Tap the Google paypass card.
4) Choose Add Funds
I am in the UK and the add funds section has the country locked to the US with no option to change it
Did any of you use Wallet on a Nexus S?
I had been using it, and I had added $25 of my own funds back then, bought something, and I had like $23 left in my wallet.
I did successfully get this Wallet working on my Galaxy Nexus (thank you!!!) but when I added the Google pre-paid, it gave me a new card (the last 4 digits are different than what I had prior) and I just have the $10 for signing up.
I'm guessing it's also tied somehow to hardware?

Sorry, I've managed to get it working now, it's all fine.
Is there any chance an APK will be released that will be installed on a stock ROM? I really don't want to root just to do this since it'll wipe my phone and I'll have to start over also want to keep the phone stock for a bit.
I think you will need to wait for google with out root

The only way I see that working is if Google release it.
You need to either flash this after doing a wipe or by modifying.
The only was I can see you managing to do this is if you unlock the bootloader (which will wipe your phone anyway), then boot into CWM (not flash) and then install the zip.
Then when you reboot your phone, CWM will be gone and you should get a stock ROM with Wallet installed.
No idea if that would work though
flashed zip after flashing Ir3 and all seems well. $10 free cash available. unable to "add funds" though.

[Q] Stock ICS Rooted but no Hotspot?

Applied TMO UVLE OTA update on stock 2.3.6 ROM a couple days ago then applied tonights ICS update via Kies no problems.
Rooted (and verified via superuser/ROM Manager) but not getting any Hotspot love. Wireless hotpost goes active then get the 'no data' nag and anything that connects to the hotspot goes straight to TMO website.
Suxors!
Any tips on a work-around?
Idk about ics but just a couple of minutes ago I was using my hotspot and all of a sudden tmobile messages me saying they blocked my hotspot because I didn't have it in my plan... Uuuhh I've never gotten that before and I use my hotspot all the time.... Interesting. Lol

using the stock browser on my asus tf300 tablet. TMO did something to the ROM. Just tried PDANet and FiFox and got nailed by TMO both times. TMO message pop-up 'no data'.
Hoping the new custom roms based on TMO will take care of this. Going to try Mr. X's as soon as he fixes it.
Updated to ICS 4.0.3 and no Wifi Tether Apps working
I am having the same issue, I have verified SuperUser and updated SU binary but Barnacle and Wifi Tether both do not work for some reason.
I am sure it is rooted (or at least it appears to be). I used the method used previously at GalaxyS2root.com and they state is still is working. I even downloaded the zip file again, just in case any of the files changed (it does not appear to have changed any files)
Any suggestions on how to get these working? Wifi tethering is important to me and I would rather go back to previous version of Android rather than lose wifi tethering ability.
Oh yeah, I also did not UNROOT the phone when I applied the update, could that have been an issue?
thanks for any help you can offer!

I have tried to remove with Titanium backup but it will not remove the app. How did you accomplish is with Titanium backup.
This is what I tried:
1) Pressed Backup/Restore
2) scrolled down to "TetheringProvision 1.04.02.TM
3) long press on that item until special features screen appears
4) selected "Force remove app (by recovery exploit)
5) it then asks me to select yes to uninstalled and states the phone will reboot twice
6) then it reboots the first time and then it freezes at the triangle with and ! in the center
Am I doing it wrong?? Do I have to have the pro version of the app??
Could anyone provide more info about it? I lost it after I upgraded to ICS. I do not have hotspot plan but I was able to tether it. Please help.

I'm not sure what you are asking for, but I believe you want to know what the issue is with wifi tethering not functioning after you upgrade to ICS for T-mobile USA?
If so, it appears that T-Mobile has made some changes to the ROM that prevent you from using any wifi tethering program (as far as we can tell so far), even when the phone is rooted...without paying for it through their service.
Now, someone states that they are able to get it (wifi tether, Barnacle, etc...) after deleting a file installed by T-mobile (Tethering Provision - see above comments). I was unable to uninstall so could not get it working as someone else stated they did.

I'm not sure why, I am using the free version of TB also, but my tethering Pervision was in red color text and stated that it had not been backed up. There were several apps (I believe all the T-mobile crapware) was in read.
Do you know what that means?
Just back it up and uninstall that's what I did.

Different Wifi Issues with ICS
Hi All,
I am having a slightly different issue. I'm rooted and have frozen the 'TetheringProvision 1.04.02.TM'.
When I was broadcasting, my computer wouldn't connect to the network. My workaround was to delete the connection in Windows Network Manager and reconnect.
My tethering icon is different than the above screenshots, I have a T-Mobile branded icon.
Now that I'm able to connect, I'm getting a message in my webbrowser to sign up for a tethering plan. I've tried a User-Agent switcher, but that didn't work... anyone have any suggestions?

Multiwindow and wallet.

Should i accept the multiwindow update today, or should i decline it, im stock rooted and i have the wallet hacked onto it...
Someone in the other thread said they were able to root again after the update...so there is no reason not to accept the update.

How should i go about getting rid of my Gwallet so it doesnt brick my secure element and everything, or should i leave it
If I was in your shoes, I would just delete it to make sure everything goes smoothly... it might not be necessary to delete, but just to be safe.
I just installed the update and its sweet.

I tried resetting my gwallet and it wont reset...damn....
Guy's i am rooted and i have attempted to install the Google wallet on my device but have failed several times mad. But i still have the files that have been merged into my /system/data partition (nfc files) and when i tried updating my device earlier today i get it to 25% on the AT&T black logo screen and it said Failed then reboots. Many people who have just root and and are on complete stock have been able to update, but i havent. I am thinks two different things right now 1) Root (impossible, others have had success) and 2) modified NFC files. Somehow or someway these are blocking the OTA update. BTW this what i get.

I too had this problem at first and was getting ready to just wipe my phone to go back to full stock but decided to try and reflash stock rom from sammobile. After that, I downloaded the update again. I let it run and behold, it completed successfully. Maybe I was lucky, but give that a shot and let me know if that worked for you. Now I just need to root and setup GW again.

Me too, but its more convenient than wiping and starting from scratch.
Edit: flashing the stock rom from sammobile via odin did not wipe my phone. All my apps(except GW and root) remained. Of course keep in mind that YMMV.

Wooot explain????
You got stock without wiping (it didn't touch any of your files)???
And were you able to update (multi window)?
Lol one more ? Did it increase/decrease or bring them back to stock anything in download mode aka Odin mode, like "device status" under settings or "system status" in download mode?

Actually, I tried a few different things to get the update and I believe I went and did unroot, downloaded the update but it still failed. Then I went and downloaded the stock rom from sammobile & flashed via Odin. After the phone started up, everything was back to stock. My phone status still showed modified though.
Anyway, I downloaded the ota update again and let it run and was surprised that it got past 26% and completed.
I eventually hosed it up while trying to setup GW again and wound up wiping the phone because I kept getting nfc service force closed and when I rebooted it got stuck in a boot loop.

0. Root phone with exynos exploit apk.
1. Download the file onto your phone
2. rename it from a .cfg to a .zip (not sure if this is necessary)
3. Use some sort of root file explorer to copy the zip file into the /cache directory. (I used es file explorer with root privaledges).
4. Boot phone into recovery mode by powering off and then holding (vol up + power + home)
5. Choose the apply update via cache option and select the downloaded zip.
6. Some terminal crap will spew out and eventually the phone will restart.
7. Let it boot and soon you'll see the "android is upgrading"
I can confirm that multiwindows works after forcing the update. The flash counter is not modified by rooting and applying the update.
Good luck everyone and enjoy your multiwindows updates . Also screw ATT for making me wait while my girlfriend brags about chatting and watching movies simultaneously.

This is what i got
This method above seems to work for other people but for me it revealed on why we get this message:
25-30% on the AT&T update black logo screen and it said "Update Failed" then reboots
So i manually flashed the file thru stock recover with the steps hyjkim provided and got this:
Only to find out exactly why...
Here is the error code example that i got.
Code:
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/app/Nfc.apk", "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx", "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx")
E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
It seems that the updates check the SHA-1 hashes of the apk under /system/app and as well under /system/libs
This doesn't have to happen with the Nfc.apk specifically...it could happen with any app in /system/app or in /system/lib
The first one is the hash of the .apk installed on your device.
The second one is the expected hash of the .apk that is expected (perhaps for security reasons)
Cause of this problem:
The reason why i get this (we) because the file was modified from the original state for it to work with Google Wallet.
Solution:
For those of us who messed around with the stock apk's and libs (Google Wallet users)
I have made a solution for the people who don't want to backup/reflash/restore all ur data (what can i say i am lazy)
The files are from the factory .md5 file in which i ripped out and went on a long journey to extract the system.img to get the system files (ur welcome)
Option: 1
Download the attachment below
place it on your sd-card (or some where easily accessible)
replace each file accordindly to the file contetnts (starting with Nfc.apk under "app" folder all the way to lib)
Make sure the permissions are set to rw-rw-r-- (on each file)
reboot (makinging sure its running fine)
Now you have 2 options upgrade via Settings app or Update in recovery (look above on the top of my post).
All should go well (worked for me)
Option: 2
reflash the the factory image thru Odin
Hoped i helped you

That explains why the flash to stock rom allowed me to get the update and install...too bad I hosed up the setup of GW after which led to me being stuck in a boot loop. Ended up wiping my phone anyway.
No regrets though because I was able to get my status to go back to normal again.

I stayed away from update. I have root and cwm. Inspired by the att update, I looked around and found clean Rom, and recommend anyone hesitant in downloading the update from att to get this Rom. This has everything including a better battery life and more snappy home screen.
However I haven't gotten Google wallet working, I will probably use the Verizon method.
Good luck!

After you revert the files back to stock and update. Then you can repeat the installing process of GW again.

i did not see if after donig a factory reset myself so im unsure whats causing it did you install that GSM patch? it might not get along with HTC sense or something verizon has in there i havent found yet
@fennectech,
I applied the GSM patch but im still not getting a signal although I have USSD codes.
I have restarted, factory reset and all but i'm still getting the error. I have reinstalled the ROM and am getting the same results
Please note I got the errors before I applied the GSM patch.
Something else, the camera is gone, not working
Can I request something from you, Please back up one stock ROM of a 612 and share it with me, I'd rather go back to stoc.k. My backup is messy Thank you for your noble work
I am trying to install it as well. I have TWRP installed with a 2.8.7 recovery image and when I try to peform a backup, it only brings me back to the fastboot menu. Never does an actual backup. So, therefore, there is no TWRP/backups folder to put the files in. I have tried doing a restore as well using the image but not luck. It tells me it's going to reboot but same thing, it just reboots to the fastboot menu. It is rooted and S-Off already using Sunshine
Any suggestions?

Weird Titanium Backup Pro issue!

So I've been using TiBu for as long as I can remember, but never purchased the licence from Play, yes, it means I was using an *ahem* version. Anyway, yesterday I bought the licence, uninstalled the *ahem* version, installed from Play, but since then I simply can't even open TiBu! It keeps crashing upon just opening! I thought it's Magisk or something, but I've uninstalled Magisk now, but no good. What is the problem here? Where an *ahem* version worked all fine, but the official, licensed version doesn't work?
I'm all stock by the way. Would really like to know a way around to this.
Found a solution? Same problem pixel 2 xl, don't want to factory reset for sure. Tried deleting in appdata the titanium directory, no success

Maybe spare the 4.99 or whatever it is and buy the app? That'll probably fix the issue. ?
If you read carefully, he said he purchased it "yesterday" in his email.......

Nah no solution. Fuk this problem. Captured log, recorded screen and sent all to Titanium support, no response at all. Awful really. I asked for a solution or a refund.
In any case I'll wait till next month's security patch is released, flash it without the w and see whether it works, if it doesn't work on a clean system partition then it's not gonna fuking work.
Attaching the log here as well, in case anyone understands and give solution.
I flashed the April patch with the w removed, meaning the system partition was cleaned anyway, but even after that the same problem exists! This is ****ing stupid! Titanium should refund me really.
In the log it says permission denied when attempting to create a directory - can you check if the app has the storage permission?

I'd also verify that you have a working busybox implementation. I use "BusyBox for Android NDK 1.28.1" (by osm0sis) Magisk Module. I can confirm that my Titanium Backup (Pro) works great.
Same to me!!
I bought it years ago. Always worked till 2 days ago: I was able to create my backup. Then app begun to crashes every time I tried to launch it!!
Uninstalled and reinstalled its (app and licence) without success!!
I sent many feedbacks but till now no fix.
Any idea?
Hilarious as ****e really, I found the solution posted on a pirated app website!
Basically you have to delete the leftovers of TiBu, so you need to delete these:
Code:
data/data/ com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
data/app/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
