Minix Neo X7 root help - Android Stick & Console Intel based Computers

i'm searching a simple and secure method for rooting my new Neo X7...
if possibile i prefer not using custom firmware, because i only need to have Superuser permission for ONE application, that is Orbot. I need this because Orbot can force every app on the phone to connect via Tor network ONLY if it has Superuser permission (without it can only use some browser to connect via Tor network).
i saw that some rooting method stopped working after 007 upgrade...
i'm not an expert with android rooting and modding, but i have some back experience from the time when i had the Nexus One... Today i have a Note II and i've used Framaroot to gain Superuser.
Searching the web for the Neo X7 rooting method i've found someone that uses Kingo, but later i've found that is a malicious program...
Now i'm wondering if can i use Framaroot or simple program like UnlockRoot, or there are other simple way for rootin the Neo X7?
thanks in advance

The malicious part of Kingo was that their app used to read the IMEI of your GSM. In the meantime it seems that they updated their soft and have given up to this IMEI reading permission. In addition, as far as I know a smart TV box like Neo X7 has no GSM. Personally I used Kingo and easily rooted my non-GSM tablet.
Now I want to give it a try and use Kingo to root my new Minix Neo X7 due to arrive tomorrow. I do not want to install a custom ROM, but to customize the stock ROM according to my preferences. I will let you know about the success of this procedure. Some guys who already did that said the rooting procedure did not work from the very first attempt: one should root, then unroot and then root again.

Minix Neo X7 rooted with Kingo
Rooting Minix Neo X7 (firmware version 008) with Kingo was successfull: SuperSu is there and I also made a backup with Titanium Backup and it worked.
I'm not an expert at all but a few hints for rooting at your own risk: download and install Kingo on your PC and launch it; connect X7 to your TV (HDMI) and your PC (micro USB to USB cable) and power it; go to Minix Settings yellow app and in Device folder check USB connection as mass storage and in System folder check connected to PC and wait until Windows install Minix drivers. Then Kingo should recognize your device (if not verify once again in Settings if connected to PC is checked). Once recognized you press the Root button and the whole procedure it will take a few minutes. At the end your device will reboot and then will ask for Superuser permission. If you fail to grant permission reconnect your device to your PC while Kingo still open and you will be asked again for SuperSU permission.

Was this the neo x7 or neo x7mini or is there any difference between the firmwares just the size of the device and the antenna?

Thanks for this thread to solve my problem:good:

mine is the "big" neo x7 with the antenna.
i don't know if there are firmware differences between the two models
btw this device is a big delusion... it can't handle 1080p movies with soft subs.
i've tried to watch some eps of various anime on this device, but with 10bit, 1080p and softsubs there isn't a way to play them smoothly.
My Galaxy Note II can play same movies without any problems

Would anyone here recommend me buying this neo X7? I would like to play locally stored movies from Sd (or micro sd) and xbmc with 1080p and other movie streaming. Plus I NEED miracast and sxreen mirroring for my galaxy S4 to TV. I read reviews saying the smaller mini-pc stick/dongles are not as good as the mini box type. Is this true? Please advise me here. Im trying to buy this in next few hours.
Edit* sorry if I revived the dead here.

I am necroposting to simply answer this question as NO. Minix and all these other Android Sticks and Hubs are crap and not worth your time or money. I bought an X7 and it is a buggy piece of crap. Minix is more focused on releasing new versions of it's hardware than perfecting what it has. Not to mention, if you read their forums, their mods are very rude and short tempered. I severely regret buying my Minix x7 and wish I had just bought a tablet from the get go instead.

Actually now that I have owned this for a while I have to disagree with the "buggy piece of crap" point. This box hasnt been too bad to me since I usually plug an external HDD to it to watch movies. I think a intel Nuc or ECS Liva dual core for around $150 could do better if its only being used as a HTPC for XBMC and streaming (especially if you dont play games on android).
I agree it takes too much modding (which is android actually) and it is not "out of the box" perfect, but it has been a pretty good little media player and with Wasser rom 1.0.4. KK. Also Mxplayer on it has played some 3D MKV videos that my older dell dual-core laptop has stuttered on.
I havent had to deal with Minix mods , because I usually posted on Freaktab forums so I cant say anything there. Anyways I now have XBMC 13.2 stable running on it with all the movies and TV shows I could ever want. I also have my PS3 to connect for some android games and emulators but I admit there isnt that many. Anyways if you are still interested in the box go to FREAKTAB and download wasser 1.0.4 and get XBMC (if you havent already).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I shouldn't have to tinker for it to work in the first place, it should work out of the box as advertised. The tinkering comes into play when I want new features, not the other way around.

Best way to mirror screen from a note 2 to a series 5 samsung smart tv?

I am trying to mirror the screen on the note 2 to a samsung series 5 smart tv. I want to play my psone emulator game on the big screen, I am already doing this with no problems on the phone with a bluetooth controller.
I've tried it a number of ways but none can do what I wanted, have anyone done this before got any advice?
1. Samsung allcast. Its is built into my series 5 smart tv but it seem to be only able to play music/ picture/ video content across allcast. Unless there is some settings or hack I've missed. I think its because its a old series 5 tv. the web seem to shows a lot of examples of it working on newer Samsung smart tv.
2. Mhl cable. I dont have one and so I cant try it out. I am worried the resolution may not be very good or maybe there will be some lag on say, tekken 2. Have anyone used it before got any advice.
3. Remote desktop programs. This will work fine with a pc but I cant install the required program on the smart tv to get it to work.
Thank you in advance for any help.

He dude
Search for a netgear solution.
Dont know the exact name for the device but google will help you out and you will know when you see it.
Oh yeah... allshare cast must! Work. So a modified phone will not work without an allshare cast mod ( if there is any)
Regards
Axelman
A thank you would be nice, if i helped you in any way.

For custom ROM you may need a mod since custom counter prevents allshare from working.I went back to stock+rooted+twrp recovery. For me Triangle away does the job.Allshare cast is working like a charm. However when I go to Recovery I have to reset counter afterwards - every time.
First. Thanks all for help.
I was initially trying for a inexpensive way to play ps1 games on the big screen, as the soon to be released ps vita tv prompted.
I knew you could get some sort of expensive wifi router than allows universal screen mirroring. Unfortunately they are at least £100 which sort of defeat the purpose in my case.
I am on rooted stock rom. Allcast seem to work for everything (ie photo and video) from the phone and the pc. But no screen mirroring. That is unless I am missing on some options/setting or apps.
Lastly anyone whom got a mhl cable on any advice on lags or sounds or recommendations. As a quick search on amazon will pop on hundred of mhl cable at various price £10 to £50+. It seems that upscaling the note 2 resolution to 40 inch tv might be a bit taxing for a cheap cable. I am not sure. Any tips.

The Netgear solution costs about $50,-
A MHL cable is okay, but still then ur wired and set to a distance of 2 meters max between you and your 40 inch.
Every convenience comes with a price
I got my MHL cable from china.. works great, but its not for playing games on a tv set.
If your interested in the cable,

Yes i did get "a2w measy" but i wasn't happy with the quality of the picture and lags so i have send it back for a refund.
Picture looked like it was "bad quality movie" even thou it was 1080p. It is brilliant idea but need some more work on it.
I've used it on official MK9 4.3 rom to LG smart tv, picture quality was very good but it had around a 1 second lag which made it awful to use.
Actually after a LOT of reading and browsing.... I realized, that miracast is not working as it was the idea on the paper! It is just not ready for prime time...pretty similiar to Bluetooth in the beginings.
A lot of devices are not compatible with a lot of dongles. There is a lot of chinese cheap 20-30usd devices on the market, that according to sellers should support miracast, but that is more often then not not the case at all. And when someone succeeds to connect the dongle with the phone, it does not work very good at all for video casting...audio is often out of sync and video stutters and is choppy...and that is when it works at all.
So my advice to everybody is to get a TV stick/box with Android, for 50$....it will be much easy to setup for casting..and a lot more powerfull, espacially because it could do a lot of extra stuff...

Yes I was thinking of buying it too but for me it would be so much easier to use my phone to navigate to where I want with miracast. I have tried to connect my phone to tv and use my tablet to navigate with all sorts of "remotes" from play store and it just wasn't comfortable enough to buy an android dongle.I guess i just need to wait until they will perfect miracast technology I don't mind small lags but picture quality with the compression it use is not good enough on 55 inch tv

[Q] sending my android screen to PC

"Splashtop" send my PC screen to my android. I have been unable to find an app that sends my android screen to my PC. Can anyone help?
I'm trying to use my Note 8.0 for teaching.
Ideally I would like to walk around with my Note 8.0, take pictures of students work and annotate on them.
I would somehow have to transmit whats happening on my Note to a PC that is connected to the projector so the rest of the class is able to see. Please advice

Try this: BBQScreen
Another: Droid @ Screen
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EAD-T10JDEGSTA
You would have to connect this directly to the projector. If it does not have HDMI input you would need an adapter.
Another option might be to try and get SideSync working on your tablet: http://www.samsung.com/us/sidesync/
You will have to be on 4.4.2 and sideload the apk. I have found SideSync to be unreliable on both my Note 8 and S5 but others find it to work ok. Might be because Win 8.1 doesn't play as well with it as Win 7? Don't know.

I use a $20.00 Chinese dongle that is smaller and more portable. It is both DLNA, Airplay and Miracast compatible and has an adjustable antenna. I tested the latency on my dongle and is about 50ms on average, which is very fast. There are two backs. One is the limit of distance you can go from the dongle. Since this one has an antenna, the distance can be up to 3 meters, as it helps when placed in line of sight. The second is that it uses 5 volts, and the wee USB cable for power may need an extension from your computer. Since this dongle has its HDMI connector built in, no need for an HDMI cable to connect in between.
Once you set it up on your tv or projector, you can put it in your pocket and take it anywhere to be used and connect with any HDMI input device.
If your display has DB-15 connector, you will need a HDMI to Analog out converter. They are about the same size and cost of the Samsung Miracast unit. You can leave the dongle in the converter, but the stick will protrude a bit.
Good VNC Server
I've used one Android VNC server that really works with usable response times over WiFi and that's VMLite VNC Server. It supports multiple VNC clients on the PC (my favorite is WinVNC) and you can use it with or without root.
It's not an inexpensive app but is less than a hardware solution and one less thing to carry.

If you have a chrome cast you can cast your phone screen to the TV
Thanks to all your suggestions. I have successfully use MirrorOP for sending android screen to PC. Would love to try out the miracast dongle once I get my hands on one.

Just a thought... I wonder how many Samsung note users use Chrome cast... It is so inferior and costly over a good Chinese DLNA / Miracast dongle. Its range is limited by the lack of external antenna as well.
Oh, I forgot... peeps running modded firmware have broken Miracast and other special Samsung functions. They should have gotten a Kindle Fire HDX or a Venue Pro 8.0 instead, if they don't like Samsung's robust feature set.

I might give MirrorOP a try to see how it compares to the Vmlite VNC server, even though it only has a 3.4 rating in the Play Store. It seems like it has a lot of proprietary pieces versus Vmlite's server using free VNC clients for almost any platform, including Android, so the features and performance would have to be a lot better for me to consider a switch. It also requires root for the Android sender, which is not a problem for me, but Vmlite VNC server does provide a method to operate without root.

Would you provide a link to the dongle you are using? I've looked at them on Aliexpress and eBay before but it's always good to know that someone has used a specific model successfully with a Note device.

How's the latency on this one? Heard some dongles can be as slow as 1 sec delay. I'm concern as I do not want my pen stroke to appear on screen 1 sec after I write.
Also, is the dongle able to use for a few hours without overheating and malfunctioning?

Mine is a year old and has been tested to stay below 60ms on delays. I Mirrorcast a lot with it, so side by side and the TV is a blink of eye faster but not like many I have seen gamers complain about.
I have played 2 movies back to back for 4 hours without heat and lockup issues. The device is worth the $17.00 or so I paid for it.
The only drawback is that it has no apps like Chromecast, but I got my Wii U to stream videos just fine if needed.
There are many more now with external antenna... there was a company that had a dual antenna version which is nice for lectures and large rooms. But I was not in need for such a device, plus it was 2x the price I was paying for mine.

Classic PC gaming on the Oneplus 5

Hello all,
Have been a PC gamer for many years now and a gamer all my life (Spectrum 48k, 1982) , few games have hooked me in recent years like two of the three game i'm listing here and the fact that we've moved on so much with technology that I've gone from upgrading my whole system to play one of these games and upgrading the operating system to play another vs being able to play them same great games with the same performance on our mobile phones?? is quite odd isn't in it
Anyway, some of you may know about these, some of you may not, so i'll write up a quick tutorial on exactly how to install these games on your Oneplus 5 and what not to do
NOTE** You must own the original game in order to legally play these, I will not link the game / torrent / files or whatever, you can do what you will but I will not discuss this any further so please don't ask! XDA does not condone piracy
The games in question are as follows:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Doom 3
Quake 3 (with Arena)
The games come in two parts:
The apk which is a front end which can read the pak files which form the bulk of the games
The pak files which are installed when installed on your computer, usually within C:\Program Files\RTCW etc or wherever you installed it.
All of the front end's are freely available on the play store, I personally could not find RTCW on the play store, but as it is free I simply downloaded it, if they offered a premium version I'd certainly pop them a beer or two for their work
Return to castle wolfenstein
APK: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0a3dy8tvt2wpro/1_return_to_castle_wolfenstein.apk?dl=0
Once installed you will need to copy the folder from your PC called main, the normal path is C:/Program Files/ID Software/Return to Castle Wolfenstein/main
Copy the "main" folder to your phone, then place it into a folder in the root of your internal memory in a newly created folder called rtcw4a, then open the app (rtcw4a)
*Note, you can change the resolution and graphics options to whatever you want, but AA will crash the game if altered, you can also change settings within game as you would on PC, multiplayer doesn't work afaik but the game runs at a nice solid 60fps at least.
Doom 3
App link in play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n0n3m4.DIII4A&hl=en
Again once installed you'll need to copy the folder from your PC called base from your PC installation of Doom 3, again it should be within the Program files/Doom 3 folder, you'll want to copy it to a newly created folder in the root of your internal memory called diii4a.
Note* again you can only change certain settings, the ones i've found to be best are as follows:
Disable lighting - Off
Use DXT Textures - On
Use ETC1 compression - On
Use ETC1 cache - On
Graphics:
Resolution: Normal
MSAA: None
Multiplayer does load on this but there wasn't anyone present, perhaps a LAN party would be possible
Quake 3 and Arena
This for me is the best of the bunch, not because it's the best game, because it just isn't but because you CAN play multiplayer, it's absolutely superb, you can host a LAN party between phones and the framerate is ridiculously high so massively enjoyable, just pray that no one is using a KB and Mouse if you aren't yourself cos you will lose

In regards to graphics I set my resolution to 1080p, left MSAA alone as it broke the game (force close) graphics within the game can be changed same as PC, multiplayer works for me as I do own all these games, even if you don't own them, because they're so old, you can buy them for pennies these days so personally I'd say avoid the pirate route, you'll only end up with a crappy version and bad karma
Final notes
All of the games have on screen buttons and have been absolutely rock solid for me,
You will need to be rooted to use a mouse? Not sure why but it requires it?
You will need to use the latest pak files to play these games, if you've already got them say through steam then you'll be set.
PS: I did not make these apps, this is simply a share and how to, props go to the talented bunch who made this possible (who afaik is Proger10 according to the Play Store)
Hope to see you in the arena
PS: Bare in mind, the Oneplus 5 does not allow TV Out via a cable, which is just wrong really, no idea why they've cut that out, suppose it's something to do with Googles decision to pull it even though they actually sell a USB-C to HDMI cable? Who knows.
You should maybe do a YouTube video showing these in action?

Might do, have been quite busy of late, have put up two of these today, one of Zelda the windwaker and this.
@dladz, have you tried getting it to work on a custom rom based on lineage?
Getting tv display out?
You said in another thread all the hardware was there, but maybe it's just something they've disabled in oos. Hopefully so.. Or... To less of an immediate fix. Might be firmware they can update later?

Not personally however on the HTC 10 (same android level) CM / Lin roms currently crash the phone forcing you to hard reset and the performance is sub par in comparison, it simply isn't optimised enough.
I fear TV out is a lost cause, Google started it on the pixel, Samsung have followed suit, OnePlus, the only other I'm not sure of is Sony, HTC and LG. HTC 10 definitely could do it but not sure about the 11.
Just a real shame.

You're very welcome mate.....
Bare in mind that you can actually own a copy of a game for 24 hours for "evaluation purposes"
That is actually legal

No worries mate, not my app, just a share. Works incredibly well on most phones.
I think wolf is still going isn't it? Have vivid memories of a 64 player game, complete chaos.
They've not done a multiplayer game since.
Maybe the new one ? Who knows.
Also the psp and GameCube emulators are 100% on this phone, so powerful.

MP Market Garden!
Madness and pure fun. Indeed no mp got the same fast pace gaming, together with a large community.
We held every week the European Forum Games, planetwolfenstein.
Yeah, awesome period.

Display link adapters work, I had one working today. Just need to find one, cheap enough which is portable enough to be practical
My one at work besides costing over £100 easily, it's too big and needs auxillary power. I'll keep looking.

Maybe?
Needs to have displaylink technology. States this one does. Cheapest one I've found.
More info, looks like this would work..

Just clocked, it's not standard USB. It's bloody that USB 3 with the extra port over micro USB. Didn't see it first, shame. Might still be possible but an extra cable would be needed.
This may do the job: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-G...97465&sr=8-6&keywords=usb+to+hdmi+displaylink
But £47 ?? Crazy expensive, for cheap plastic.

bleutooth xbox one s controler: does it work

What are good bluetoothcontrolers that work?
Xbox One Wireless Controller works over bluetooth
I can second that, my Xbox One S controller works perfectly via Bluetooth.
Yes. It works flawlessly. I also used mine to test some psp games through ppsspp emulator with vulkan api. And its really awesome. Now we just need a good phone holding clip that we can attach to the Xbox one s Controller to put our phone in since our phone sadly doesnt support any slimport hdmi output
Sent from my ZTE A2017G running V1.2.0B08 using XDA Labs
Mine dosent work
I tried to connect with my Axon 7 but it dosent show up iduring refreshing
I tried it on lg v20 too..but same, no device.
@teji007: Works for me on AOSP Extended Nougat, I don't use ZTE's stock ROMs. Make sure you have your XBox One S controller in pairing mode (the light will blink rapidly). If it still doesn't work then you might need to try a Magisk module, there is one for this controller, just search for it in the Downloads section of Magisk app. I haven't been able to get the controller working in most games, but it does seem to work fine in Minecraft, Survivalcraft, and Survivalcraft 2.

Thanks for replying but now i have updated my phone A2017U to Oreo and i dont know how to unlock bootloader and root.
If you know please do tell me .
Thanks
@teji007: I no longer own the Axon 7 as of a month ago, so I can be of no help. I have moved on to the Galaxy Note 9 N9600 international Hong Kong model. But there are plenty of guides on the A7 XDA subforum, just start reading a few topics in different categories, you'll get it figured out.
A "wireless" controller doesn't necessarily mean bluetooth.
My daughter's XBOX one controller didn't work. My Axon 7 couldn't "see" it.
I just got the new XBOX one controller which specifies bluetooth on the box. The Axon 7 sees it and it works properly on stock Oreo.
Google about it and see there is an obvious cosmetic difference between the controllers so you can tell which are the right ones.
Ebay has clip on phone holders too. I'm going to order one.
If we had official Android 10 I would try a Nintendo Switch controller as 10 got native support for that. They're $20 cheaper.
