I have had it for a week. It truly is a great tab. And I agree, once we get Custom recovery and Custom Roms, this will be hard to beat.

Is the hardware known by other brands so it is easier to develop for?

I've ordered one as well an hope to have it delivered next week

I am presently in Brussels, Belgium but when I return home late Sunday night (Denmark) there is one of these baby's waiting for me. So I can not tell anything about my first impressions but I am up for a custom ROM for sure....
I have flashed every phone and tablet for me or my kids regardless of the brand Chinese or a branded for as long as I can remember...
A version of Cyanogenmod 11 on this with NovaHD over it seems like a very nice deal
So I am excited about ROM development on this as well.... Keep up the good work.

How to root?

I've found that manual http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/root-onda-v812-onda-v972-and-allwinner-a31-based-tablets/. I don't have tablet, though. Going to order after end of Chinese holiday. So, I could not check whether it works for 975M

I received mine today and I must say I'm impressed. Looks solid with a good finished quality.

Does SwiftKey runs smoothly at your end? And youtube?
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Find 5 met Tapatalk

OK, but i think that isn't normal behaviour...with v1.0.5 app YouTube dont work, work fine tubemate o youtube in stock browser. I dont know about swiftkey, because i dont have it installed now...
Edit.update about swiftkey, that not run smoothly...

I have now played with my new Onda V975M for a couple of days and like others I am quite impressed about the build quality, screen and the feel in general.
Speakers is mediocre at best not even close to an IPAD, screen is bright and crisp, charging port is also a full micro USB (finally on a Chinese tablet), Micro HDMI as well (have not tested that yet) and I have stuck a 32Gb MicroSD in the slot for video and media only as the internal memory also is 32GB again nice with a cheap Chinese Tablet with plenty of storage.. Do not seems to get hot even with extended heavy use.
Cant really give a clear picture on battery because I have charged it every night last couple of days but even with heavy use during a full day the lowest I have had it is around 27%.
It does however feel like like there is a lot of lost/hidden potential in this tablet. I am absolutely sure if anybody where to make a CM11 for this it would be a hole new beast. Better drivers for both processor and GPU is needed.
I am experiencing stuttering both with YouTube and streaming video from other video streaming sites. It does shut WiFi AND memory card off when in sleep but both fires up really quick when woken up. It also seems to get slow'ish if a lot of APP's is open at a time, again with the processor speed and GPU it should be a real powerhouse. If you look at the specs only it do NOT perform as expected. I can't emphasise how much I am looking forward to some clever bloke is launching a custom performance ROM for this...
Please Please get to work...
Still I would recommend this to a friend... best bang for the buck right now I think??
Robert

I agree, this could be a great Nexus device if we could get a custom rom.

I am really satisfied with the tablet overall. If Onda releases KitKat, this tab will be a killer regarding the price. The predecessor, the normal 975 has already official 4.4 update from onda. I think it is only a matter of time before they bring it to our device.

Wifi off when screen off is bug of the latest Fw,like youtube bug, because in v1.0.4 there arent.
For fix WiFi off we van just replace the "module" /system/lib/dhd.Ko with the one present in the Fw 1.0.4

My 64GB card works fine but the 32GB one unmounts whenever I lock my screen. I've read that the solution is to reformat the card in the tablet. I'll try it out later after I backup the card.
***Update***
Had to format my 32GB card in my Galaxy Note 3 as there no option to do it in the V975m.
Tested my newly formatted card in the Tablet, but the problem still persists.

Thread for those who are interested in Archos 97 Titanium HD.
Got my device about two weeks ago and I'm really impressed with this Archos tablet. It's probably the first on the market to offer iPad like Retina screen and first Archos tablet that's is pretty pleasant to use, because Android 4.1 at lats runs pretty decent, fast and smooth.
Hi i have the same tablet, i look at the video and there are running a game like gta, in my google play, they aren't this app because it is uncompatible with it, there is a way to play it?....i saw windows rt in the video, what can i do this? Thank you
Yes, Google likes to disable some apps by country or tablet model.. though you can always download apps on PC and install them from SD card anyway..
Do you know if can i root this tablet?
Just thought I'd add a little feedback here as our family has just bought a new Archos tablet and this 97 Titanium HD was on our shortlist but we discovered at the last moment that it didn't have a mini HDMI socket like the rest of the Titanium range. It also seems some people are not too impressed with the 97 Titanium HD specs to cope with the higher retina display resolution. Therefore just thought I'd mention if you want the higher resolution and the mini HDMI you'd be better off spending a little extra to get the 97 Platinum HD which has quad core CPU and 8 core graphics, opposed to dual core CPU and 4 core graphics on the Titanium.
The Platinum range is currently only on pre-order so we went for the 101 Titanium as it has the mini HDMI and means we can also use it with a non smart flat screen TV to add BBC iPlayer etc.
Going well so far but a few apps we wanted aren't available for 4.1, such as, ITV Player, thetrainline, UK Bus Times Live, Rightmove.
Hopefully Android 4.2 will be available soon.

Haven't found any guides on rooting and custom ROMs yet.
Though there are info for 97 Carbon, maybe it suits for Titanium too. Haven't tried.
No the carbon way doesnot work try the 80xs way

The ARCHOS 97 Titanium HD looks the same as my VIEWPIA TB-310 and has the same specs.
Mine plays 1080p movies from a 1TB NTFS USB HD connected via the OTG cable to the host USB connector.
It is also ideal for reading PDF documents with the RADAee PDF reader.
Minor drawbacks are the 12V/2A power supply and the lack of an HDMI output; it also allows only one USB storage device.
I bought the 8GB version for 225 Euro in the Netherlands (this includes a 3 Euro copy tax).
Googling for "9.7 Retina IPS, Dual Core 1,6GHz, 1GB RAM" yields at least three different labels and several sellers offer the same machine without mentioning a brand.
Does someone knows the originator of this tablet?
Archos 97 titanium retails for 255 euros in Lithuania and you get 2 year warranty. Guess Android updates from Archos too.
Some games on Archos 97 Titanium HD.

Fast band smooth... you gotta be kidding, try HD mode and you better male yourself a coffee while waiting for e-mail to open...

Yes, try it more often if whole point is just to complain.
I've tried both normal and HD modes, haven't even noticed a difference in picture quality, so normal mode is a lot faster, smoother and saves battery. Haven't used HD since then at all.
Let's remember that Archos 97 Titanium is even cheaper than previous G8, G9 models, but offers incomparable screen quality, speed has dramatically improved as battery life too.
Even then compared to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Archos 97 has way better screen, runs a lot faster and retails for less.
And if speed is the most important thing, buy iPad, Windows device, but never Android. There is no Android device yet that runs smoothly and probably won't be anytime soon. So Archos is smooth only compared by Android standards, that you don't have to make a coffee every single time then clicking next link or turning magazine page (because you had with 101 G9 or Tab 10.1)... So Android Jelly has made a dramatic improvement in speed, but still even a budget WP phone will run smoother then any premium Android device, because is just the way Android is..

I think I have to agree with you. I am surprised a cheap WP tablet to be perfectly smooth when even nexus 10 have some lags... I like android but this thing is SIMPLY WRONG design. There are no possible excuses. I am so pissed off about this I am seriously thinking to switch to other systems.

I've got second super cheap chinese tablet for ~$121, same chipset 1.6Ghz and Android 4.1, the only difference is 8 screen with 1024x768 resolution. It seems like games and OS runs a bit smoother than on Archos 97, though this is not something unexpected, because lower resolution puts less load on CPU and GPU.
Think maybe the link is wrong? It seems to be the A86 not A85. How's the wifi away from router?

Title and description doesn't match real item. Though link is correct and real name with specs are like shown on the box.
The price went up to $144.99 last week too. Guess because it's clear now that $120 was a crazy good deal for device like this.
some thoughts
I think when you do some gaming, the battery drains really fast, within a few hours totally flat. Watching youtube is 4 hours max.
Somebody knows how to root it ? I hate the ads, and want to put a hosts file to block'em, and put other tweaks for JB (build.prop and init.d scripts)

Just to let you guys know, and warn you not to get the Archos 97 Titanium HD, it's that bad, i don't know what to do with it. i will try to sell it as a second hand and loose money on it. i bought it 5 days ago....
the problems with this device:
1. WIFI is very very slow and reception almost doesn't exists ! you will not be able to get a signal farther than 3m from the router.
2. HD ? Retina ? are you kidding me the device is on Normal mode (half of retina res.) and works sort of OK but still not as fast as expected from a dual core 1.6GHZ CPU with quad core GPU !- SHAME on you Archos.
Putting the device in HD mode, Forget about it, your device will flicker like hell and the lags becomes epic !
IMHO, the worst is the Archos knows about this and doesn't issue a recall or a solution to their customers. this is definitely the last time i will buy Archos for me they are a bunch of thieves because they know about their defective product and they keep selling it.
I feel like it's my obligation to post this message in all the relevant forums, to warn other suckers from falling in Archos trap.
Let me know what you think about this device, i'm going to the store tomorrow and will try to give it back.
"IPAD killer" really ?

Elephone P8 MTK6592 1.7GHz Octa Core 5.7 Inch FHD 1920x1080

Hello.....
This thread is about the The ELEPHONE P8 MTK6592 1.7GHz Octa Core 5.7 inch with FHD 1920x1080.
Will be updating this thread with relevant info!
WRITTEN REVIEW:
I have now used the phone for some days, and I already have a good impression of this phone. The Elephone is high quality compared to my older HDC Galaxy Note 3 N9006 (with only Quad Core). You really can feel and see that the Elephone P8 is of the newer Octa-core generation. Almost everything is better on this phone than on older Quad Cores.
The screen is really nice, sharp & clear and have some real vivid colours. Almost everyone that I have showed the device, have told me that the screen is very nice. So the FHD 1920x1080 must do a difference.
The camera in the Elephone P8 is also of the "good" type. It has some few extras like object focus, voice capture etc, but especially photos indoor are much better than on my older HDC. I think it is pretty equal to the Jiake X3S (also Octa Core). My wife tried the camera, and the first she said to me is, "wow this one, actually has a good camera".
The Dual Sim and 3G works perfect! The speed of the phone is what you can expect from an Octa-core. And scores close to 27000 in Antutu. Games and apps runs very good on the phone. The backspeaker is loud, even maybe too loud sometimes (there is a setting to boost the volume in the phones options). But especially the earspeaker and the quality is 10 times better than on my HDC. That is really a big plus for me. You hear people really clear when you speak with them.
The phone is really big (even bigger than the normal Note 3) so it is only for people with big hands But the overall build quality of the phone is very good, almost as good as the real brands like Samsung, HTC etc. I have noticed that it is very solid, and it doesn't feel cheap at all.
If I shall say something bad, then it must be the light in the hardware buttons, it could be stronger. But at least there is some light. And there is no options to set the sensitivity of the screen. I would like it to be a little bit more sensitive if possible, but still it is good. Another thing is that I haven't found a way to change to a custom wallpaper on the stock lockscreen, it only allowes me to use the builtin wallpapers.
The battery life is good, I would say 1 1/2 day with normal usage. But it also has a pretty big battery, but on the other hand also a very big screen, which uses a lot of power - so it evens out. I will recommend this phone if you want a phone with good quality, it is not a 1:1 clone of the Note 3. But it has much better build quality than the clones have. The problem with the 1:1 clones are that they often are cheap made, because they are sold as clones and not have their own brand/name.

Hi there, loved your review! very detailed and informative about the phone.
Influenced me to buy it.
I've got the phone now and was just wondering will there ever be an option to improve screen sensitivity? because in some games the screen is not responsive enough, which is disappointing because it is fast enough to handle them well
I was also wondering if new roms or updated firmware will improve battery life? and where would you be able to download them?
thanks, I shall await your reply !

I think ROMs will come on www.needrom.com when available, but so far I have not tried any other ROM yet.
Have not found a way yet to alter the screen sensitivity in games.

Xiaomi Bluetooth Gamepad

Has anyone bought it? I saw it on http://www.gearbest.com/video-game/pp_167775.html
I was thinking of buying it for my Android device but can't really find any information on it in English. So maybe somewhere here has used one?
I managed to to google translate some spanish review on it which praises the build quality but didn't say anything about input lag (which is what I'm most worried about).
Cheers
Got one and it's great. Buy it from banggood for about 20€...
I have no problems with the gamepad just R1,R2/L1,L2 (like on the Playstation) it's very "deep".
Note 4 with CM 12.1/Xperia Z2 Tablet also with CM 12.1 and a Chromecast to bring anything on my TV. I play the old games with the gamepad like Tomb Raider. Best gamepad and much better than Tronsmart gamespads.

So no input lag? Because I saw a few videos on Youtube where it seemed to be lagging while playing some sort of racing game. Have you got a Console which you can compare it to? I have a OnePlus One and Xperia Z2 Tab aswell but I just ordered my Nvidia Shield Android TV so thats mainly what I'll be using it for.
No, nothing! Anything works great, without lags. I have a PS3, PS4 and 360. it's 90% a 360 gamepad. Maybe they got a fake product?

Anyone else's Nexus 7 slow?

Since the lollipop update my 2 year old Nexus 7 2013 has become quite slow so is there any way I could speed it up? If not could someone recommend me a decent android tablet?
I just wiped mine clean and put on SlimKat 4.4.4. Rooted and running great with solid battery life.
No one else's running slow? I've bought a Lg G pad 7.0 to use instead but that means I can root my Nexus 7 and install roms without worrying about bricking my main device . Amy recommendations in terms of roms that are light on the battery and the processor?
Theandroidfan: My Nexus 7 2013 has run very smoothly and has had great battery life on Broken OS Marshmallow. See https://plus.google.com/communities/116521990967962635243
Android 4.4.4 is best. LP and MM are broken for N7 2013. Mahdi 2.9 Final with ElementalX 2.15 . Perfect combination for me as I play resource hungry games.

are you rooted with a custom recovery?
If you are it is the same as flashing any other ROM. I went from stock 6.0.1 rooted to Slimkat 4.4.4 thru TWRP. Just need the ROM and the proper GAPPS.
If you are going to go thru all that or if you aren't rooted etc you may just want to wipe cache or factory reset. That usually fixes any of the slowdowns and funkiness. A factory reset will wipe everything though so be prepared to start over from scratch. Same as going from L to 4.4.4 will do. That is why I said you may want to try the wipe or factory first.

What?
I bought my nexus 7 on launch day and never was fully satisfied with it's performance. I tried some roms and such and was never fully happy with the balance of: bugs/performance/battery life (and I usually run every phone with CM).
After fixing my flex cables (auto rotation problems) I factory reset and flashed Android M. In my opinion that is the smoothest rom that ever ran on this tablet. They finally fixed some underlying kernel stuff (music stuttering when rotating the tablet to adjust the stereo speakers, streaming music suddenly stops when playing in the background while the tablet is in sleep mode). The only minor annoyance I found is that soundcloud sometimes lags, while hitting the multitasking button. And the system does not really want to use all of the available ram. Chrome likes to reload when multitasking for example.
But other than that it runs nice on Marshmallow. Try a clean install.
I agree Marshmallow runs very well on my Nexus 7. This is my second unit the first one was horrible with any version of android due to hardware issues I don't think any version of android is "broken" for the Nexus 7 2013. The difference between this and the old one is like night and day.
In my opionen Marshmallow runs very smooth on the flo, especially with pure nexus Rom. Multitasking, switching apps, surfing and navigate through für menus are best in MM. The big downside is that near all games run like **** on MM, that's fact. The same games are well playable on 4.4.4 is ridiclous. Even some games run like **** on my nexus 5 with MM but are playable on flo with 4.4.4 Dalvik. Of course it could be the games not optimized but nearly all games were updated often in the past without a change. The big downside of 4.4.4 is that it is not smooth like MM when navigate and multitasking.

I game on my Nexus 7 and when lollipop first came out I noticed some lag but all the games I play eventually updated and now I don't notice any difference in performance. Marshmallow runs awesome on this thing. Whether it's stock or a custom rom everything is smooth as silk.
@mydian which games? I will test it .
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
Off the top of my head the only games I had big lag problems or low fps were Dead Trigger 2 and GTA Vice City, there were probably more though but those 2 run fine now. I've also played a lot of NFS Most Wanted, Plants Vs Zombies 2, Tetris, and Shooty Skies which have always ran fine. Lately I've been playing around mainly with NES and SNES emulators which have always ran fine. I'd be happy to try some for you as well if you want.
@mydian I remember dead trigger 2 still a lagfest on Marshmallow. Can you test these games in your flo, they must be a lagfest but are well playable on 4.4.4. Hearthstone, Legion of Heroes, Guild of Honor, Minion Rush, N.O.V.A. 3 freedom edition, Sword of Chaos. Report me if you test those games.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
I regularly play Nova 3, Modern Combat 3+5, Real Racing 3, Need for Speed most Wanted, Asphalt 7, Galaxy on Fire 2 with no lags.
Although I do get better Quadrant benchmark scores from my 2012 Nexus 7 GPU with Trickstermod kernel (60fps vs 24 fps) when testing?
Running MMB29Q 6.0.1 on my 2013 N7
@Tmzdroid Sorry but i don't believe you . I tested it myself and Nova 3 is well playable at 4.4.4 with 30fps(tested with fps Meter). On MM it is 2 seconds smooth and one second it's stuttering like **** and this goes through the hole gameplay. Modern combat 5 is not smooth on 4.4.4 or MM ever, it's like 25fps. Asphalt 7, most Wanted and Galaxy in Fire are quiete smooth on both 4.4.4 and MM you're right. But Real Racing 3... honestly this **** is a lagparty in 4.4.4 and MM like >20 fps. Even on my nexus 5 with adreno 330 it's lagging with 20fps, it cannot run smooth on the nexus 7 2013!

Chuwi HiBook is one of the most cost-effective 2-in-1 tablet. Chuwi official price about this tablet is $239, but now the Amazon sale price is only $209. Compared to other 10.1 inch 2-in-1 tablets, I think it's very reasonable and affordable.
Is there an optional color?
Is there only gray Chuwi HiBook? I am interested in this tablet, but i perfer gold tablet. Is there an optional color?
I consider buying this to replace my old onda v919
I just received my new Chuwi HiBook from a well known Chinese seller. I've been playing with it for the last few hours. Firstly Chinese bloatware uninstalled without any hassle.... And stayed uninstalled. Physically the tablet is quality, the metal backplate is particularly pleasing although it does warm up significantly when performing multiple tasks. I noticed this particularly when mass installing my favorite apps. The screen is crisp and clear, blemish free. So far very little lag, but it's early days. Most of the games I play are strategy so I can't really tell. Only one annoyance, the speakers are right where your hands are when holding the tablet so although Chuwi have considerably improved the speaker performance, it's wasted when they're often covered by your hands when gaming.
Hopefully this thread will grow as more people receive their tablets.

In order to watch movies, surf in the internet, read and office is this enough ? Is this fluid ? I think it should have 4G technology!
The CHUWI HiBook is WiFi only, there is no 3g or 4g version. I've been streaming films and watching downloaded video via Wi-Fi with smooth results. My comment about the speakers earlier is less important when watching video as you don't tend to be holding the device. As with ask new hardware I'm still getting to grips with it, I've found a few games which wrong run properly which is disappointing, but they weren't problems connected to processor speed.
I accept the fact that this is a budget tablet which is trying to be a pc as well, there are frustrations, but short of paying twice the price I don't think you'll find anything much better. It's early days, I could eat my words but there's already been a m OTA update pushed from Chuwi so they're obviously attending to issues.
It would be good to see some developers playing with one of these, the potential is good.

Maybe you misread that, The first HiBook has just been launched but now you're saying they're launching a successor this quickly?
Anyway I got mine too and I'm loving the metal back. Charging via Type-C is fast too, even faster than my Hi8. I can't root Android using the existing guides on the internet, but the good news is the bootloader can be unlocked (I used the fastboot command instead of developer options, that doesn't work). I think this needs a custom TWRP to flash SuperSU properly, but no builds for the HiBook are available.
Hopefully a kindly dev will invest in a HiBook and get some ROMS started. From my point of view I'm not going to root it until I see a firmware listing. I've asked Chuwi to post it on their site and they seemed willing. They opened a forum for me so they seem quite helpful.
I'm really enjoying my new book, a few frustrations but on the whole it's a good machine. Kodi runs super smoothly with the "lateralus" build from the "easy kodi setup" app. Let's keep this thread active and share any additional links and information we find.

I'm interested in this tablet, my previous experience with the ASUS T100 was that those rubber nips on the keyboard kept on falling off 2 weeks into using it and the screen wouldn't shut off properly, are you experiencing the same thing?

Hi, I'm very intrested in this tablet but I got some questions.
Is it charging on USB Type-C?
What about the micro-USB port? Does it support OTG? Is it possible to connect a external 2,5" HDD?
On my Teclast X98 Plus this is not posdible, the tsb does not deliver enough current! I also have really great problems with sd card on windows so I will send it back and hopefully get my money back to buy a Chuwi HiBook.
Kind regards

Hello,
Chuwi HiBook has micro-USB port and USB Type-C port ( Power interface). It also support OTG function. I think it is a good tablet.
So you can connect a 2,5" hard disk drive with a OTG cable without extra power for the hatd disk?
Does the tablet deliver enough power? Is the tablet recognizing the hard disk?
If it does, I will get one too.
Kind regards

Sorry, I haven't try to connect a external 2,5" HDD So i can't give you a definite answer right now. But the most tablets need extra power for the hard disk. Thanks.
I want to buy one that doesn't need extra power like the asus transfomer pad tf300 or Acer Iconia I had before .....
It's an important spec for me.
Could you try this for me if you got the time? Would be very nice from you.

Hi avalanche99, you're talking about the keyboard? Because if it comes down to it you could plug it directly into the tablet USB port itself. Also any reports on battery life?
This has just been posted on the Chuwi website.

It is possible to re-install android without losing windows. You need Intel's Flash Tool Lite. I used 64bit win 10.
1) Power on the HiBook while holding volume up and volume down. You should get the Chuwi logo and the words "DNX FASTBOOT MODE.."
2) Windows on my machine didn't use the right driver. I had to manually change the "Intel Android AD" device driver to "Android Composite ADB Interface"
3) Once the driver was changed, the intel flash tool recognized the HiBook
4) Browse to where you extracted the HiBook Android.rar file. 7zip works great for extraction
5) Choose "update" in the configuration drop box.
6) Start the flash. For me, it got do 25% and stopped. The HiBook rebooted to the normal android recovery
7) Windows again got the driver wrong. The HiBook shows up as a different device, so I had to again manually select the "Android Composite ADB Interface"
8) I power cycled the HiBook, entering DNX boot and restarted the flash. This time it worked.
My HiBook now boots both windows and android.
Some other tidbits:
1) Press ESC or DEL to enter the BIOS at the CHUWI splash screen
2) Press F7 to get a boot device selection menu
3) The left and right arrows, followed by enter can select windows or android instead of the volume rocker
