Problems with camera button? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning!
After the first days with the new z1 compact i´m a bit confused about the camera button.
when the device is in deep sleep the camera button does nothing - after using the power button to bring up display, everything is fine.
For me, this is a major software bug - what do you think?

If you enable camera in the stamina mode settings it should work as expected.

Yes, i´ve read information about that. But why is camera button not working when STAMINA is NOT enabled?

Have you pressed it deep enough? It is kinda stiff button.

This annoys me too. Usually works if you press twice quickly.

We could only hope that this issue remains to SW...
The led flash issues on night shots are bad enough... :crying:

Hold it down until phone vibrates. It should bring the camera up. I use stamina and dont have camera enabled in it.

Yes it works but you have to press two times.press first time then leave it and quickly press second time but don't leave.keep on pressing.it will open camera direct

I dont need to press it twice. Just once Press all the way down and hold. the phone will vibrate and wake up with camera app opened.

I have no problem yet. but those comment are important and helpful us.

i miss the action of camera button

there is nothing action when i press my camera button.
i press the camera button, and the camera function doesn't work.
but it still has the carema function in the ROM which i cooked in my X1.
how do i fix my camera button ?
THANKS ~!
Did you break the connector off the board or got it disabled through software?
NO~, just cook the Energy rom.
i can't press the camera button to start up the xperia camera.
But i can start up the xperia camera through ".\Start Menu\Programe\Multimedia\xperia camera".
Also, i notice that, when i start up the xperia camera, i still have the "focus" function....,but just missing "shutter" funtion.
HAHA,can you understand what i taliking about?
please help me.~
i think thats a hardware problem, i believe pressing the camera key on energyroms still opens up xperiacam
and since you have no shutter function that shows its a hardware problem
I can fully understand you, I have same problem. Probably its a HW problem, but after flashing camera button sudenly has been worked. Now problem is back and I have to push at button with power. maybe it will be a feature Not a bug
I have the same problem and its not a hardware thing, i got a new phone for diffrent reasons and it worked till i copy my old system over. I dont really care that much since the camera is crap anyway..but it would be nice to know how to fix it..
you can use the app(button hook)

it would be more satisfying to have it back as it should be, but i really dont remember if i messed up the camerabutton setting in the registy or if some additional software is missing from autostart that checked this button..

[Q] ICS Beta, How to capture a screen?

Is there anyway to take a screen shot without loading any other apps.
(I'd try power btn + vol down but seems like it doesn't work.)
Power Button and Vol. Down
works for me
try again, begin with power button first

Thank you very much, but when i press(hold) the power btn, then the menu pop up and when I press more on the volume down, the sound level still opened!
Is there any response or any notice when the screen was taken?
You have to press and hold both buttons at the same time.
Power + vol down
It makes cam noise ,gives preview and notification in notification bar
Good luck

Power Shutter toggle in camera?

Anyone has any idea what this power shutter toggle does?
Initially i though it meant i could use my power button to take pictures, but nope.
That's exactly what it means.

Am i missing something?
Even with it enabled, when i press the power button, the screen just turns off.
I dont even have that setting in my camera options?.

Its ICS Camera+ that has this option I believe.
I have the ICS+ Camera (paid version) and that option is not there. I am also wondering what app is OP using.
This option is in the regular camera app in the rom that I am running. AOKP Milestone #4. ICS 4.0.3 last time I checked.
You first hit the settings button (the sliders button next to the zoom) then you hit the three little squares icon that is on the left. There you will find that setting.
That function works well on my phone. I set it to ON, and now my phones power button is the shutter button when my camera is open of course.
Thanks for letting me know about this feature =)

I just tried it and it works perfectly! Nice!!
Yeap, i am using AOKP m4
Doesn't work for me though.
tried it on stock kernel and franco's m1 but it still isn't working. it just switches of the screen.
Edit: you'll have to close the camera app and run it again and it'll work fine =)
Turn it on reboot your phone and then it should work.

I found you need to hold the power button down for a few seconds, then it takes the picture. Simply pressing it quickly does indeed turn the screen off. It would have made a lot more sense to use one of the volume buttons.
It doesn't turn the screen off for me. It works fine. I can press it quickly, or hold it down and release. Both snap the pic normally for me.

Yep I agree with the poster above. I can also do it as quick as possible, or hold down for 5+ seconds and let go, and both times it will take the pic normally (focused and everything).

on aosp i can't find this option... i can find it on AOKP (rulez)
Lol
tnx for the info. Secretly picturing od the girls on the beach just got to whole new level:laugh:
Bump. Has anyone found or figured out how to create a cwm flashable file to mod the stock jellybean camera to do this?

Lumia 900 Camera Button not waking phone

I'm not new to windows phone, but the Camera Button is not waking up the device on my new Lumia 900. I double checked and have the exact same settings set up on my HTC Surround, which is working correctly.
Anyone else have this problem or solution?
Thanks,
Mine doesn't do it either. I just assumed it was designed that way.

It should most definitely. How long do you hold down the camera button for?

No, it is not. Microsoft is very pround of the fact that press the camera button can wake up any WP7 phone in any state (other than shutdown) and launch camera app automatically. Try hold the camera button for a few seconds.

this worked for me, i think people are just stoping halfway when they hit the focus click
EDIT: mine only works sometimes
I've tried holding it down for a few seconds, longer than my Surround. I think it's a hardware issue. However, it does work with the lock screen in place. Just not at full sleep.

You got a point. Holding the camera button down does not work for me. Press, release and press again does. I wonder if theres a setting for that
I can also confirm that it does not work every time. I have to unlock and re-lock, shut off for it to work again. Hope this is fixable in a firmware update.

If the phone has been asleep for a while, it does not work. No matter how many times I depress the camera button and no matter how long it's depressed, it does not work.
It only works if the phone has recently gone to sleep and even then I have to hit it twice sometimes. IDGAF really, doesn't matter to me....

Ok tried rebooting, changing camera button settings and it still doesn't work. Plus with others having the same issue I'm pretty sure it's a defect. Just giving up on the issue isn't a solution so I'll contact Nokia (God knows ATT won't help) and get back here with the results.
Keep in mind this was a selling point - "Smoked by Windows"
Guys... try pressing the button all the way in with some force. It should work. Seems they designed it so it will not accidently get turned on by mistake.

already tried and it wasn't designed for too much force

Ummmm... I feel like "EPIC FAIL!!!", but that worked . Just wasn't use to that with my Surround.
I figured it out
If you press, release, press, release, then press and hold for 2-3 seconds, the camera will start up from a fully closed state.
Mine works every time. No matter how long its been asleep.
I don't have one lol

trick with that camera button wake up: push it fast and hard.
from playing with two wp phones i've owned, i think it's because of the difference between focus press (no wake) and shutter press (wake). problem is they are two stages of the same button. the phone tells the user intent apart by measuring the time from passing first stage of button press (focus) to arriving at bottom of the press (shutter). if it's shorter than a particular value, it wakes the phone. that means you have to press it firm enough to get to the bottom of the press, and fast enough to beat that timer.
if you just press it lightly, it either doesn't get to the shutter stage at all, or doesn't get there fast enough.
it's a bit dumb, because you kinda have to slam that button hard. on the other hand, you don't want to accidentally wake the phone.
Quick press seems to work. Hopefully they fix the timing so it's easier. The Samsung Focus timing was good, and worked every time.

Photos with phone off

Just switched to lineage and it's great so far. One feature I am missing is in stock Miui you had the option to set the volume down photo to take photos even when the phone is off. So essentially just hold down the volume button and it starts snapping, no need to turn on, open camera app etc This is great for capturing a moment very quickly, but I don't see this option in lineage. Any ideas how I can re enable it?

Thanks but that's different to the Miui functionality.
In Miui you hust hold the volume button down and it starts shooting, regardless of focus etc. No screen on, no opening of app
I found the functionality is called Quick Snap in Miui. Is it available via xposed or something similar?
