NTFS (USB Stick) Mounting - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hi,
has anyone been able to mount and access a NTFS-formatted stick or hard drive? I hav a rooted 8.4, tried Paragon (which is working on my Note 10.1) and some other tools like NTFS Mount (crashes), but no success. Paragon sees the stick/drive but cannot mount it ...
thanks for any suggestions ...

Same here, would really love to get this sorted out!

Give USB OTG Helper (see playstore) a try. It installs the necessary NTFS RW drivers and indicates whether NTFS access will work with your ROM when the appellant is open. You can always uninstall it.

dito here ... SE Linux is in Enforcing mode and will not allow any (kermel) drivers to be installed, so we will need a new kernel before this is going to happen imho ...
Marcher

What about using Stickmount app plus putting "ntfs-3g" module in /sdcard?

What about installing SE Linux mode changer from the play store? As the play store description says Knox may block it but may be worth a try for rooted devices.

Did you try Stickmount + the module, or didn't you??

Does stickmount work without root? Please ignore, I see the tab in question is rooted. I've got tab pro 12.2 on my brain!

The reason that the module doesn't load is not related to SELinux.
The kernel is built with strict MOD_VERSION support which means that it will only load modules that are built with a kernel that has exactly the same version. If the version on the module is not an exact match, it will fail and report an error in /proc/kmsg. Yoiu can see the error by running dmesg from adb as root.
The only way to fix that is with a custom kernel.

Yes, looking at the work done on the note3, what is needed is a custom kernel with AT LEAST a permissive SELinux for using paragon, but it can be offering NTFS directly too.
The Good news is that we have to look at tools for nexus: YOU CAN READ NTFS WITHOUT ROOT USING TOTAL COMMANDER AND HIS PAID USB PLUGIN

This is true I was able to read my NTFS formatted external hard drive with Total Commander without root. And guess what.. The 8.4's battery is strong enough to handle the hard drive so you don't even need external power source.

If anyone is still interested, ES File Explorer has just got built in NTFS support. I tested it on my portable HDD and it works like a charm !

Can't transfer data via USB on CM9 or CM10 on Mac OSX

So I've tried flashing both CM9 and CM10 roms but no matter what I do I can't get it to recognize my sdcard or my internal storage on my Mac. I've even tried formatting the card to fat32 and still nothing. Any ideas what I should do to get this to work? How is it working for you guys? I would post this in the CM threads but I rather not clutter it with questions. Thanks in advance
What do you mean it won't recognize your sdcard? The recovery won't read it? If so, which recovery do you have?

When connected, you should get a notification telling you that your phone is connected via USB.
Select it, and make sure that it's connected as PTP.
MTP does not work on Macs.

Sounds like you should just invest in an external SD card reader. Or look into wireless file transfer even though I don't trust that when it comes to transferring roms... I don't use macs so I'm little help lol.

Thats exactly what I use when Im on FREE GS3 rom, but whenever I switch to a CM9 or CM10 rom it just doesnt mount. Im starting to think maybe its the kernel CM based roms are using
PTP currently does not work on Cm9/10 roms, which is why your having problems it is the main reason keeping me away from using either one as a daily driver for now
Any updates on this? I'm using the latest CM10 nightly - it would sure be nice to be able to connect to my Mac.

Being a Mac user I know the issue you are talking about. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Boot Camp partition. In finder open Applications-Utilities-Boot Camp. There will be a printable tutorial. The Boot Camp application literally walks you through the process. I have found this method far better than running a V.M.
still no fix?
Hi

1. Install Kies.
2. In kies go to tools and use the option to reinstall drivers.
3. Install Android File transfer
4. Reboot mac
5. Connect your GS3 and run Android File transfer
Works for me.

Root without PC?

Is it possible to root the Nexus without a computer?
There was a way to install adb and fastboot an Android tablet or another phone a while back. Although I am not sure if it is still possible (the sdk updated, and I am not sure if they updated). Edit for clarification: Which if it is, you could use a tablet and an OTG cable to achieve root. Which technically would mean you don't need a PC.
Though, to actually answer your question, no you need a computer.

Solve that problem then. Try different cables, different USB ports (if on desktop try one on the back of the PC). Try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Try another PC.
If all of that fails, it may be a hardware issue with the phone.

[TOOL]adb_pusher(for windows)

I've made this simple and small tool seeing some people have bricked their devices BUT are able to access TWRP.
For some reasons they don't use the usb_otg, might it be they don't have the otg cable or something other, doesn't matter.
Maybe they aren't familiar with command prompt(command line), adb etc.
Q) What does this tool do ?
A) It let's you choose the desired rom, then checks if the device is connected and finally pushes the rom.zip to your internal storage.
Q) What does this tool NOT do ?
A) It doesn't install the rom.
You may add comments, questions, requests or graphic_design_help since my gui sucks badly.
Some prerequisites have to be met, adb driver should be installed. If you have ever rooted successfully that should be covered then

Hmm. Depends on which version you had installed. I think TWRP supports OTG since 2.6.3.x (not sure which version)
Hmmm maybe... I had twrp 2.6.3 and as I was worried about the device I didn't know what am I doing. I downloaded all the rooms requiring latest twrp and those didn't flash... Then I thought about adb sideload which I had totally forgotten... Then I first updated recovery via sideload then flashed paranoid Android xD

or
just enter twrp recovery(you don't need to select adb sideload), just connect it while in twrp.

Question about Xposed Framework.

I just rooted my HTC 10 and installed Xposed and got the Youtube Adaway Module. My previous phone was a Z3 where I had used GravityBox which ran fine. Since this is my first HTC device will the GravityBox MM work for this device or is there an alternative besides GravityBox.
Thanks Again.
As I remember GravityBox is programmed to run on and with AOSP based ROMs. Now when it comes to HTC, stock ROMs aren't AOSP based. I never used it myself though and I'm a long time HTC user. If you want you can try it if course, but should perform a backup prior to doing so.

Just tried and it works, only needed GravityBox to show the AM/PM and change the battery icons. Can't say about the other features on it as I only needed these two functions. Also got Xposed working with greenify, and Youtube Adblock. Looks like I am good to go for a while!
Sounds as if. Have fun with your new 10!

first off, I mean this the best way possible. You need to be both more clear and more complete in your posts and questions. I could (and many would) very much give you a hard time but will try to help you.
1. If I'm not mistaken, that is a TWRP error. You can do a forum or google search and you'll find many threads about it with options.
2. Post the TWRP log so we can see what happend, or take a screenshot so we can see exactly what the output text on the screen was before the error.
3. Are you using TWRP? I assume so if you're on an HTC 10.
4. I simply flashed the proper exposed module in TWRP.
Long story short way too many variables to simply answer your question. You could wipe the cache and reboot into recovery, re copy the .zip to your SD or adb push it over. and reflash

If you look at the screenshot it tells you exactly what the problem is. Did you even read it?
Tell us what it says directly before the error?
"system mounted as read only file system" - you didn't mount as read/write. You have to mount R/W for SU and anything like this you're going to flash.
Try again, this time set the system to mount as R/W and be sure to read and watch what you're doing.
People are here to help but the trade-off is you must make efforts and not solely rely on others to solve your problems.
