I loved that, too. It looks like Google disabled the functionality for devices that didn't get a factory KitKat ROM as of April 14th. I would post a link to the Google support page about it, but I'm too new to XDA to post links.
I started getting notices in the app over the last month, then the functionality disappeared on April 14th, just as it described. I'm not sure what the technical reason was, if any.

So they removed this for everyone? I thought i just screwed something up when i re set up after wiping and putting on a new ROM.
That blows. Loved being able to use GWallet.

that's ridiculous is there any sort of workaround in the works?

I've moved on to the Nexus 5 a few months ago but I don't remember that being an issue when I had the Galaxy Nexus. I was on Verizon and used Google Wallet just fine. I don't know if they updated something that broke it though.

Maybe the gnex doesn't have the host emulation thing?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

As I understand it, and I could very well be wrong, but I thought Host card emulation was a completely software driven system. No more need for the secure element on the Gnex anymore.

You are correct. If were lucky it might work again when they get the 3.4 kernel working.

Most likely there is a new revision of the hardware with a new power management chip and it will have to run 4.1.2 or later.

I had some real bad flickering a few day back, maybe i'll send it in for RMA after the new grouper hardware comes out.
As others have said and JBQ confirmed 4.1.2 is a minor update on top of 4.1.1 the new revision of hardware deals exclusively with future revisions of the Nexus 7 (grouper), not maguro or toro (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) devices. Apparently these new revisions are shipping with a new power management chip that is completely incompatible with 4.1.1 as new driver/bootloader tweaks are necessary. https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/android-building/2rkEoKMnhzU
As per the update notification on the Nexus 7, Android 4.1.2 "improves performance and stability and fixes bugs." Not too helpful, but it's a start.

I smell a whole bunch of roms updating to this even though it does nothing for the gnex. Oh well...4.2 is coming so i'm happy.

The notification also says the stock launcher now supports supports landscape mode. Whether or not we see that on the GN is anyone's guess.

I doubt that a 31 MB update just fixed the launcher rotation and Google waited 4 months after it was released to fix it. As stated I'm sure there are some bug fixes and other misc fixes.
not excited untill a complete changelog shows some awesome changes, but I won't expect too much of such a minor update. Anyways, updates are a good thing (most of the times)
edit: I was going to add that I hope the LG Nexus will bring some more changes with it's OS, but Android Police seems to know better :
It's also a good time to bring up the fact that the LG Nexus prototype that we saw yesterday was also running 4.1.2. Today's announcement seems to add further credibility to that story.

The update is required for the new Nexus 7 hardware since previous versions aren't compatible. So if they are shipping them soon, then they need to have a proper build. Also new drivers and a new bootloader is included.

Since the device is most likely already in the manufacturing stage, it makes sense they would ship a stable build on it. Most likely Google employees are dogfooding a newer version however that will probably be available on launch day or soon after.

Jelly Bean 4.2 Seems Buggy: Worth the effort?

I think OP might be referring to how something like December is missing in some stock apps.
Yeah, Google probably won't patch it or anything. Let's just write the whole thing off.

Ya who cares about December anyways, not like there is a major Holiday associated to it!
Not!!
I am positive Google will patch it, they already stated they were going to.
quoting KenEsq at provided link
4.2 has been a disaster here on our Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7s. If there were any easy way to go back we would in a second. Google should be ashamed of releasing this mess.
1. We had more app crashes in the past three days then we had in the previous 6 months.
2. Battery life is about 75% of what it was on the Galaxy Nexus.
3. There's something wrong with the way the touchscreen on the GNexus is calibrated now. Touch an icon near the edge will initiate a page turn/slide rather than launch an app.
4. Numerous slowdowns, lagging.
5. Missing month of December.
6. Time on the GNex is bizarre. Other apps that also report time aren't in sync with the system time and that seems to be off a great deal.
7. The new lock screen on the Nex7 is a mess. It's slow/laggy. It can take multiple entries of the pin code for it to work and then you may be greeted with a black page. If you have one widget page selected (time) every power on will greet you with a partial view of the blank widget page.
8. Many apps including the Amazon Appstore (they patched it yesterday) lost their ability to have persistent login.
Should you not believe my reports head over to XDA you'll find a slew of additional information. Suffice it to say if you haven't "upgraded to 4.2" yet...DON'T!
End quoting
But whatever. Maybe it's all made up.
I love Android too, don't get me wrong.
Nobody is saying that its made up. We're saying that Google is working on the problem and a bugfix is in the works

But this isn't just a "missing December", fixing everything should take some time, and for what? What’s so new and shiny about 4.2? I only heard of the photos combination thing, which is nice, but that’s it.
I didn't say it doesn´t have a fix, I was only wondering if it's worth waiting for it/solving it instead of focusing on a nice, complete 4.1, which is already half done.
@Aquethys
I was under the impression Dman had stopped developing his 4.1 ROM to focus on 4.2 (now I realize it’s for The Collective, not the Glide). Since it is not 100% clear whether he will continue working on 4.1 or start a new 4.2 project (for the Glide) when he finishes, I don´t think it is a total waste of time to exchange opinions on this subject beforehand (not that we were his bosses anyway, he may as well take some well-deserved holidays). We are tech guys, “counting our chickens before they hatch” is what we like the most
Ps: I’m not an expert, but the fixes you mentioned sounded more like bypassing rather than solving.
All the stuff mentioned above can be fixed.
1. Calendar. Use another apk.
2. Battery Life. Custom ROMs can take care of this. Lots of ways to manipulate this. Also, it's only been released to source in a matter of days. Give it a couple weeks. C'mon..
3. Calibration. Again, custom ROMs. Some even have calibration options.
4. Lag. Overclock, underclock.
I could go on and on...
This is really pointless arguing over whether or not we should build 4.2. It's like counting our chickens before they hatch.

MultiBoot?

Is there anyway to have like two roms installed for dual boot on this variant?
Have you checked the play store there's an app called I think boot manager, not sure if the phone is supported though.

I, personally, would love this feature.
I hate all the down time and uncertainty in testing out new roms.

There was Boot Manager in the play store but it hasn't been updated since April of 2012. Says they've started working on a update (November 7th) don't know if its last year or this year though.
There has not yet been a kernel and recovery made for our variant to do this.
When/if this does happen, I don't advise using it as a test bed for Roms to be quite honest.
It may have a select number of Rom combinations it would even work with.
Definitely isn't gonna just work with them all in a 100% reliable nature, as the Rom would under normal installation.
But I do see this becoming a possibility in the not too far off future.
As for Boot Manager.....great concept, but I'd rather have my 15 bucks back.

Ohh I didn't realize that a feature like that could be handled through an app, I assumed it would need lower level development outside the operating system. but I'm still new to this

OTA Update 6/22/16

I am currently downloading the new set OTA. I saw someone else said it's just a security update, but the file I'm currently downloading is 1.6GB. Seem rather large for a security update?

None yet. But there's nothing else it could plausibly be. It's 1.4GB, the same size as our MM sideloads. Security updates have been under 100MB.

The combination of an OEM known for being slow with updates (Samsung) and a carrier that's even worse, sad to say. A shame, really. The Note5 is an excellent phone all around. In truth AT&T is worse to deal with than the the the manufacturers themselves.

Well that takes all the fun out of things in my opinion. You're gonna watch some knucklehead have at it like a drunk girl at a frat party. Half the fun is gaining the experience hacking away at an ADB shell and figuring things out on your own. Damn kids these days.... Get off my lawn.

You are not understanding, I would all day but my phone is a free phone, I cannot modify the phone being in the Insights program, I cannot side load the program. I have a Nexus 6 for real fun, this phone is just my meh phone compared to the Nexus 6.
Also, the guy I deal with at the Samsung Experience probably knows more about android phones than 95% of the users on here, he is an awesome dude. He actually helped me root my first free Note 3 from the Insights program and was able to keep Samsung from seeing it so I would not lose the phone. Samsung has got smart though with the program and can tell now.

All good, buddy. I only recently - as in, since the start of this year - started seriously following Android (lack of) security. It's pretty scary once you start keeping up with it. Basically the entire Android ecosystem is where Windows was pre-XP SP2.
