HTC Desire won't mount as a drive?

Hi guys, I'm obviously new here, but I did have a look and couldn't seem to find this answer anywhere else.
I'm trying to hook my HTC Desire to my PC, but every time I connect it via USB cable it says that device drivers are not found and that Windows cannot rectify the problem.
I've tried installing HTC Sync, but the PC won't even recognise that there's a phone or mass storage device hooked up, so it just stays at "disconnected".
I've selected the phone to appear as a mass storage device when I plug it int the PC (I even select this on the phone's display as I connect it via USB so the phone realises that it's being plugged into a PC).
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I've struggled with a problem like this before (though, a flash drive, not a phone).
There were two solutions that helped mi on two different occasions.
1) Removing all usb devices from the computer. Shut the computer down, take out the power cord and wait for 20-30 min to settle all capacitors. Then turn it on and plug the devices back in.
2) Put the device in the computer as Mass Storage. Go to device manager and see where is the device. Right click on it (should be unknown or stuff), choose update driver. If it doesn't find anything try updating windows with latest patches and try again.
3) I was solving a non-detectable usb webcam, but removing ALL usb devices from the device manager (Under USB choose device, delete, choose device, delete.) Then click Scan for changes on the top to refresh the devices and install the drivers of the usb root hubs, etc. This would probably fix the problem if the above fails.
---- edit ----
Quick note: if your keyboard/mouse are USB, you could hang without keyboard or mouse until you restart your computer, so keep in mind if you can detect them, delete them last

If you still can't get it to work, please provide results from another computer (if it works there as mass storage), or better if you have some Linux Live CD you could try there if it gets recognised.
Where you try to plug usb cable into PC - front panel or rear? Because a lot of PCs have an issue with front panel usb. Try rear panel

Thanks to both of you for the swift replies
I actually figured I'd check this short fix before trying the more detailed ones and it seems like it was just a matter of plugging it into the rear usb!
I'm definitely putting this solution to my personal FAQ. Thanks, jankos.
HTC EVO won't mount as a drive
verified that issue was with the front USB port. I plugged my EvO in to a usb hub I had plugged into back usb port and it worked like it was supposed to.

[Q] LG G3 USB Not working on PC

Hey Guys
Being in IT I always tell people it's a bad Idea unplugging a USB device while you are transferring data to or from it. Should have followed my own advise. I was uploading to my G3 while plugged into my PC when the phone wrung. So Mr Smart guy unplugged it to answer it. After that it was just a no show. It connects and show up in my folder manager, but when I click the device, there are no directories or files. I know if you do that with a USB drive, you need to format it to get it working again.
I'm hoping for an easier solution on how to possibly reset the USB on the phone.
PS. After restarting the phone and PC - still no show - Doesn't work on any USB ports on my PC (USB 2 or 3). PC USB port working as I can plug other devices into it and it connects.

Problem in connecting phone to pc and connecting usb device via otg cabl

Hi
I have a Sony Xperia Z 5 Premium dual e6833 model. a few days ago after about one month when i try to connect a usb flash via otg cable the usb not detected. I think after update to Android 6.0 (ota update) this problem has occured.then I download the 6.0 stock rom to flash via flash tools that i found phone can't connect to pc. Flash tools and Xperia companion can't recognize the phone however driver's installed.but Flash tools can detect phone in flashmode and fastbootmode. I flashed the 6.0 buildnumber 185 whit full wipe. But the problem not solved. Then 6.0 buildnumber 163. Then 6.0.1 buildnumber 224. Then 5.0 buildnumber 170 and all these fladhed whit full wipe. But the problem still not solved.
By the way... When I try to connect the phone to pc via usb cable it's not detecte by pc and no reaction in pc and phone. But when i turned off the phone and connect the phone to pc via usb cable and then turn on the phone Xperia companion and flash tools can recognize the phone and the pop up notification for selecting connection mode is shown in notification bar. But flash tools recognize the phone whit usb debugging off however the usb debugging is on and unknown source is active in setting.
In this situation if disconnect the phone and try to reconnect it the same problem is occured.
I tried to change the settings usb connection from setting - developer options- select usb configuration but the problem still not solved.
Please help me
Did you select the type of usb but connection on the phone? In 6.0 it gives you the various options such as charge only or mtp connection.

Hi, for the otg connection there is a quick setting. I think sony found this solution to avoid problems with the open micro usb port and the IP67 certification. Try to connect a USB key to the phone and press the search usb quick setting, worked for me!

XA1 and USB connection (to PC and pendrive)

Hello.
I have Sony Xperia XA1 with latest official Android and I have difficulties connection it to either PC or pendrive.
I tried the original Sony cable which usually is used for charging - nothing, PC doesn't see the phone, phone only charges, no option to choose between charging/file transfer.
USB options in Android settings are grayed out.
I tried a Sandisk pendrive with USB type-C and phone can see something in the USB, gives me an option to choose whether to charge or transfer files and other two options. I choose file transfer but phone doesn't see this pendrive, kind of resets the options and let's me choose charge/file transfer over and over again. Pendrive is perfectly ok, works well on two other phones and PC.
What do I have to try / change in the settings to force it to work?
I've never had this kind of issue on any of my Samsung phones...
Do you use the original cable?

Question I need some help please!

Hi , my Poco F3 arrived today and i was very hyped to use it but i've come into a problem.
Neither my win10 laptop or my F3 can identify each other when i connect them via USB, i can't even find it on the device manager, on my sister's laptop it connects and identifies weirdly enough but that's an older laptop is really slow and unreliable for anything specially since its not mine.
My laptop is a new one 2020 model and it connects well to any other device ...
I've tried replugging 100 times and i've made sure USB debbuging was toggled on my poco, also made sure the usb config was on file transfer, i've tried installing various ADB drivers too but it didn't help.
Can anyone please help me out with this , the poco f3 is my first android device and i really wanted to put other roms and use the ADB fastboot tools to debloat it but without connecting it with my laptop its gonna be very hard ...
Use official USB cable. Don't use a USB hub. Connect directly to the laptop. Change a USB port.
Plug your phone USB cable to laptop, switch file transfer mode on phone drop down menu, then reboot your laptop without disconnecting your phone from laptop.
Right click on the windows button on the task bar. Click on device manager. Does any device appear on their when the F3 is plugged in. Also as said above directly connect to a PC usb port rather than through a hub (maybe use a Usb c to usb c cable if your laptop only has usb c ports)
