Which one should i Buy? - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends,
I need your suggestion to buy a best smart phone for my daily usage from this model Galaxy Note 3 Neo or Desire 816 or Xperia T2 Ultra.
I was really excited to buy Note 3 Neo (SM N750), but there is no any firmware update, No any custom rom & no any development so far.
My daily usage:
Exchange Mail, G-mail, Yahoo mail, Whats app, Facebook, Web Browsing, Watching Videos 3hrs a day, Listen to Music daily, Playing Games Hay Day Asphalt 8 & etc...
I'm really expecting for your suggestion
Thank you

You won't need anything special as per your requirements. And development is not very active in any of the models u mentioned. So I would suggest you to pick the phone you feel good and happy in your hands.
T2.. Bigger screen, bigger battery, loudspeaker is feeble, getting kitkat in Aug Sept
Desire 816.. Overall good package, glossy scratch prone back, kitkat out of the box. Better front cam n sound. More ram (very, imp)
Samsung.. Not much idea since I stay away from it, but you know enough to compare since you following it and will be easy for you to compare with the lot.

T2 Ultra - Dual Sim, Big Screen, Inferior Screen, less RAM, avg processor
Desire 816 - Dual Sim, Above Avg screen, average RAM,avg processor, less memory
Note 3 Neo - Single Sim. Super Screen, enough RAM, avg processor, enough memory
Looking at ur usage, I would suggest u should go for Note 3 Neo if u have that much of budget because it is having Amoled screen, 16 GB memory.

[Q] Xperia S or Xperia Sola or suggest my something else

Please refer to my earlier thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991092
I'd like to move on from my X10i to another phone that'll be good for another 2 years.
Which one would you guys suggest?
Please understand me, I'd like save as many money as possible, but I also want a phone that will last for at least 2 years.
Xperia ion  just bought it 4 hours ago, pretty impressive...
Sent from my LT28h using xda premium
Xperia J is cheap, 1ghz single core, a bit laggy, no face detection.
Xperia S is lagless, 1.5ghz may be too much, battery consuming.
Xperia sola, cheap, but screensmall, dualcore seldom lag.
Xperia acro S, same as S, but got water resistant, less battery life bcuz of display(dont know what it is)
ion, large screen others same as S.
V is the best at the moment.
@zhuhang, so the J is almost like the X10i. I'm definitely trying to avoid that.
So, I talked to a few people, and now the S seems to be the best option for me.
It has a LED-display, hasn't it? Isn't that supposed to be less heating/power demanding?
The dual core 1.5GHz CPU will surely last for years.
I'm reading that the S has no extensible storage, but the built-in 32GB memory makes up for that. How does this affect the Android's /data capacity? Will I be able to use link2sd, i.e. partition that memory?
If getting the S won't be an option anymore, then I think I'll just go with the Sola. At least I won't have to cut my SIM to micro size then
Xperia s has around 2 gb for apps on the device and 26 gb internal sd card for the user. I never had to move a single app to sd card and I have around 120 apps installed. I don't really think the storage is something to worry about on the xs. I also have the sola and it's really weak and laggy compared to the xs but a nice phone otherwise.
Battery life on both phones is amazing, sola lasting a few days longer then the s of course because of the smaller screen, but I am not a heavy user anyways.
For a primary device that should last 2 years I'll definitely get the s.

Arc s is not too shabby to be honest. Compared to 2012 phones, it obviously doesn't perform as well with noticeably more lag. However it's performance can be boosted to a very large extent if you install a custom rom (either based on stock ICS or MIUI or something else not sure) and to a larger extent with custom kernels. The Arc s compared to 2011 phones is actually pretty good. Regarding the ones you mentioned, it's a lot better than Defy and it's not as fast as S2 and photon because of the number of cores, but in other terms such as Screen quality and camera quality, it's a lot better.
I'm sure threre's more to add
If you want a better phone it's not hard to find but you should be able these days to find an arc s at an affordable price maybe on EBay or something and it's still a good phone but I wouldn't pay much over 300 for one if I was you I would say 250 sounds about right, (250Canadian Dollars).

I'm usin Arc lt15i(not Arc S),but i'm very pleased with it,Arc S has a better processor and i think you will like this phone, well i'm using GB,gaming,multi-tasking,recording and other stuffs works perfect,no lag at all,ICS on the other hand sucks with most games,recording,multi-tasking but hey you can use custom ROM's,it will run just fine.
Xperia Arc S looks very nice it fits very good on your hand.

I think Arc S is a good choice for new Android users.
Except the gaming experience, it is enough for whatsapp and facebook etc.
I am from India too. I think 17k is lit bit high. Why don't you think about HTC Desire V
arc s is a bad phone, in my country galaxy nexus is only about 50 euro more expensive but it's incomparably better... If I could make my choice again, I'd definitely go for a dual core, 1gb ram phone.
also, build quality is one of the worst I've ever seen. the housing is really squeaky, damn this phone is bad.

you made my day.
Don't buy this phone! I am the developer, I know what I'm saying! Arc and whole 2011 line is slow, badly-crafted and support from Sony is horrible. Don't buy anything what's not at least dual core and don't even think about Xperia T! It's good phone, but camera is laggy and materials used to produce the device are simply awful! If you want something cheaper - think of Samsung Galaxy SII. If you have some more money to spend, buy HTC One S or Desire X! Those phones have future, not like crap Xperia's.
I will never buy a phone of Sony anymore! Even if it's high-end beast.
This phone is the bad thing that could happen to me..because is a very slow device...only 512 mb ram, but only 350 available, single core, and ~400 mb internal memory, crapy cracks on sensor, low battery life....only good thing is just the sexy look, but hei this should be a smartphone not a girl.....
Overall is my mistake because I buy this, but for sure will be the last Sony phone...and believe me, I'm not a young ..but from a smartphone I want to have at least 1 gb ram and also dual-core processor...maybe Samsung Galaxy S ll...will be my choice, because I don't want a huge phone like S lll...
All the best ...
Why would you even consider purchasing this phone? Budget wouldnt even be reason enough as there are quite a number phones out there, in this price range, which are way better than the arcs. And more importantly, they'd be newer models.
Several months ago it would have been a decent buy. But right now? Why buy a dated phone with terrible specs? Imagine where you'd be in 6 months, or a year. By that time you'd be calling it Grampa Arc S.
It would no longer be worth it anymore. Get something else
Cheers

I'm very pleased with my ARC S - In Sweden one of the best phones in its price range. Great camera, with camera button and swift system. It has good battery, 44hours~ with moderate use. But if you tweak it a little it'll last a full day and be a little bit faster. It works great, But it's not an S3, It's good, you don't actually need better. really.
the Sony Xperia GO has same CPU specs, water proof, and is cheaper. Aswell with better ROM etc (lolroot). All games I've tried games work great, subway surfer etc works flawlesly on both phones - using ICS.
(owner of both GO and ARC)
You don't need the best of the best systems for a phone. But if you really feel like it, go for an S3. You can now switch games twice as fast!
When looking for phones, I look for durability, Camera , RAM and internet speed. I personally dont have the need to have 1 million widgets, and 10's of apps open at the same time, I usually just do the same things, then close them.

Nonsense, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Arc S, infact its the 3rd best phone of 2011, which is why i bought it, it might not be an amazing phone when compared to the current market, but its constantly changing, the Galaxy S2 is out of date now, even if it is / was good. But your opinions just seem anti-sony.
Support from Sony is horrible? In what respect? Sony were the first 3rd party phone developers to deliver ICS to their phones outside of Googles own, they do a pretty good job of adding their own style to the OS with their own apps, and theres not much bloatware.
Granted there are some design floors with Ram and Space on the actual phone, but the whole core thing isn't much of an argument, as the phone was a september 2011 update of the original, they only updated the speed of the processor, but its not like Dual Core phones were on every phone back then, only a handful had them, and they were much more expensive.
Just because a phone is quad core doesnt make it better than a dual core, it's all relative, a lot of people are impressed by the Xperia T, and from what people said months before it was released, its dual core was faster than the Galaxy S3s Quad Core.
The benchmark for smartphones isn't high, you can achieve most of what one person needs with the cheapest of smartphones, its when you get into the realm of chasing the best games and multitasking 50 apps at a time that you need the boost, everything from 2012 on-wards is just constant polish and raising bars that don't need to be raised, to make out that somehow they need more cores n ram, till when? When somehow quad core and 2gb of ram isnt enough, then we have 6 core processors and 8gb of ram in one phone? Where do we draw the line in what is actually needed in a device thats just supposed to connect us to people. I guess Google Project Glass is the answer, as its pointless to keep adding constant power to a device that doesnt need it.
I bought my Xperia Arc S a month ago. I wouldn`t do it again. For less more money (relatively) you can get a Galaxy S2 which is a much more capable device.

Very well said My thoughts exactly. Smartphones are not just about the abundance of cores the phone has. Only a very select few of knobheads care about such novelty. As long as it can perform the tasks you need to do, it is subjectively good.

I'll buy a phone only if it has 4 ghz hexa-core processor,12 gb of ram,10TB internal storage,5000 mAh battery,7 inches display, adreno 999 graphic driver, and 60 mpx camera....Come on peoples, what the hell is with this insanity "don't buy it if it doesn't have at least dual core and 1gb of ram"? Like someone else said, the basic function of a phone is to use it for talk, not for gaming, photoshop or programming. Can't you see that the phone evolved but the batteries are more and more weaker? Why do you need a quad-core which is last only half a day? For the OP: if you don't want a phone for gaming, but for multimedia,Arc S is a wise choice,if you want it for multitasking and games, get a Galaxy S2 or a Galaxy Nexus. PS: i have a Neo,and i'm planning to upgrade it to Xperia V.
The speed was never an issue but the lack of ram and internal storage totally ruined the arc S experience for me and it's put me off Sony devices. My wife has an Xperia S and it sucks too. Never again.
If it wasn't for the Nexus 4 I'd of bought an Acer S500 next. Unique design, amazing display, pretty much stock ICS, SD slot, removable battery, etc. For about £280. Easily rooted as well apparently.
But I got lucky and bagged a Nexus 4.

[Q] Which one's better? Galaxy grand or note 1?

Hi, I searched the internet to find that there are two phones I can buy which are in my range: Galaxy grand and galaxy note. I have to choose one of them. Please tell me which one I should buy and why.. some points like larger screen, s pen, 1.4 GHz processor are making me want to buy the note. The websites on first page of google also tell that note is better, but I want to know what you guys think?
I will buy used phone, as prices of new ones are almost double.
What is the average battery life of these mobiles? Not the standby time which they say on the features list, but the average usage time as experienced by the users. Are there any hardware related problems which many users generally face? Should the fact that note is one year older bother me?
If anyone is reading from Pakistan, I would love to take a look if you suggest me another phone with second-hand price around 23,000 to 29,000 PKR, having more than 4.3 inch screen, at least 8 mp camera, jelly bean and at least 1.2 GHz processor?
I currently have HTC sensation so I don't want to switch to an HTC device.
Thanks.
(@mods: this has been posted in two places because it is needed to be posted twice in order to reach the users who can answer this.)
I have both phones. Note 1 = single sim but with spen and higher resolution + usb otg. Grand= dual sim. If dual sim is not important to you then as a 2nd hand you should get the note 1 for a better value at price you mentioned.

Note 1 has better display along with exenos chipset and mali gpu ... so much better development in xda ... and mali gpu along with exenos will play most of the games ... and 1.4gh dual core cpu will be good for day to day use ...
GRAND has some advantages like dual sim capability ... official 4.2.2 update ... better battery life than Note 1 ... good for one handed operation screen ... for day to day use this will also not gonna disappoint you .

Help HTC Desire 816!

Good night,
I wonder who has this mobile phone if it pleased him?
Because I wanted to buy one but with dual sim.
Sorry for my english but I'm Portugal
Obrigado
I'm quite pleased with it, but everyone has different requirements. You should look at some of the online reviews, or let us know what specifically you are looking for.
Also keep in mind the dual SIM version is 3G only,it does not support 4G. (AFAIK)
This may or may not matter to you ofcourse.
I have'nt got this phone yet but as I said in another post I do plan on getting it through my carrier.Just waiting for them to get the grey color version in.Prefer it over white.
Reviews overall Ive read and watched on yt are very favourable. Its marketed as a mid class phone from its specs which it may be these days but a few years ago those specs would be a high end phone.
Im currently still using Galaxy S3 as my main phone but the HTC 816 should still be a slight upgrade.
And I do like the 5.5" screen and boom sound stereo speakers.
It may only 720P while high end phones now are 1080P but coming from an S3 which is also 720P the display from the HTC 816 still looks great to me when I had a play with it in store.
The main let down of this phone is the 8GB internal of which apparently only around 4GB is available to the user.
Still it should be enough for the average person and at least it also has a micro SD card slot which is good.

After using the HTC DESIRE 816 dual sim mobile (UAE edition) phone for about a month, I would rate as follows. Hit the thanks button, if you liked the post.
1. Look and feel - 4.5 out of 5
Cant use the phone completely with one hand and sometimes the glossy finish at the back is quite slippery.
2. Sound System - 4 out of 5
Even on the highest sound level, some videos and songs appear to be running on low voice. Boom sound is great and is almost alike the Beats sound. People argue on that though, but I am quite satisfied.
3. Operating system - 3.5 out of 5.
There is not much to say about Android kit Kat 4.4.2 and the way it looks on this phone, however the only problem is 4.4.2 versions comes with SD-card write protect, which means some apps cannot download the data into the external sd-cards but instead download into the internal memory, which is already very low. So if you are a hardcore gamer, then you should use link2SD app working on your mobile, which requires you to root, unlock the bootloader, partition the sd-card etc etc, that voids all your warranties on this phone.
4. Battery - 4.5 out of 5
With the power saver and xtreme power saver modes, you can almost get the mobile for 1.5 to 2 days on moderate usage.
5. Responsiveness - 4 out of 5.
In most cases (99%) it is good.
6. Data Connectivity - 3.5 out 5.
Although you could get a max of 3g speeds in the dual sim mobile, you would only see H or H+ on one sim and G on the second sims most of the times. However, I am ok with the H speeds in Desire 816, which are almost equivalent to 3G speeds in my Sony Xperia Z and Samsung S4. So I am impressed. However, with the second sim, the speeds are unusually slow because of the G speed that you get.
On the contrary, I the single sim variety in this is model has got better speeds because it has 4G capability.
7. Body - 2.0 out of 5
I would rate it badly because I dropped my mobile once on a tar road and found not only the scratches on the body but also the chipped out surfaces at some places. I was quite frustrated and annoyed as this was the first mobile ever I found the external body chipping out when dropped on ground. It is like a chip out from a porcelain dinner plate.
8. Extra features - 3.5 out of 5
Some phones come with fast download mode, which make the downloads faster using wifi and network connection at the same time. This is quite a new feature to me coming from the samsung and sony phones.
Kids mode, parental control, Zoe makes your mobile even more valuer provided if you have kids
On the flipside, it does not have an inbuilt option to set up your voip accounts. Lame. You must download an external app called c-sip or droidsip or whatever. Also, it does not have an inbuilt security app to locate your device when lost. You would have to download an extra apk for that.
9. Camera - 4 out 5
Camera quality is good though, but at nights, the quality is not that great. But the features usability is very user friendly though.
10. Overall - 4 out 5.
Weighing the price vs features and capabilities, I would rate 4 for this piece.
I am sure there would be other good features and some ok and not so good features in this mobile that I might have forgotten to rate here but they are not many though.
Anyways, I am interested to know how the other users would rate this mobile ??
Very nice summary vbrsekhar.
Havent got mine yet, still waiting for my carrier to get the grey one in.But it will the 4G single SIM model, however I dont think I have 4G in my area to test speed. Will see.
thank you so much information

Note 3 Neo or Xperia ZR ?

Usage is going to be 95% web browsing, 5% Emails and Texting.
Or any other device in the same price range? (Don't want non-removable battery devices please.)
Xperia ZR internal memory of just 8GB seems an issue to me while in Note 3 Neo's case its screen being prone to scratches, poor processor chip, and a price difference of about 10k more than xperia zr doesn't see to be worth (18k v/s 27k). No updates, no kitkat for it yet either.
Any suggestion would be a great help. Thanks.
Poor chip? Dude , the performance is very close to snapdragon 800! You will get kk with note 3 neo , it's just a matter of time. Performance is better than zr. If you can afford note 3 go for it( difference in price should be small enough )
I bought it because of note features and samoled screen.
