LG G3 851 Supports Wireless Charging - T-Mobile LG G3

So my back cover has two electrical contacts, I swear wireless charging works.... hehe JK. You definitely need the right cover but the phone DOES support QI charging.
After I pre-ordered the G3 I ordered an OEM slim case from Korea, not realizing it had different electrical contacts than the US version. I read the Anandtech review, they had the 855, figured the US versions had it built in... Sadly, we know the story. So I pulled the wireless charging coil from the OEM slim case and moved it into my original back. It took me two tries to get it lined up but QI wireless charging does work. I have pics but I've only been a lurker on the forum so I can't upload pics. With the placement right now NFC doesn't work... but I mainly just wanted to confirm that QI worked.
I tested with two different QI chargers, both older that were designed with the Nexus 4. The nexus 4 orb wcp-400 and the flat wcp-700. Both were able to charge the G3. However, as others have reported the G3 is very picky about placement on the charger. On both chargers I get 'charging slowly' messages on most placements on the charger. It takes perfect placement for them to display a 'normal' charging message. However, I'm skeptical of these messages, because it does say that the phone IS charging and it didn't matter what charger I had connected, (1.8A, 2.4A, QI,good/bad placement) the estimated battery recharge time was exactly the same.... I'll do some tests and see how long it takes to charge from ~50%, with perfect placement and the non perfect placement too vs the cable.
So TLDR any of the US carriers QI back covers should enable wireless charging with the Tmobile 851. Maybe once I have enough posts I can upload pics. :cyclops:

I can also confirm that this back works for Qi wireless charging one the d851 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/151340368484?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I am thinking of moving the coil to my Quickcircle- then I will have what they should of delivered...

My backplate will be here early next week. No carrier branding on it so win win

All of G3 varients support wireless charging...just matter of finding the right cover or grabbing the circle case

I ordered the white one but there are links to Grey and Gold if needed on that page. Same seller. Just a heads up though, AT&T has locked theirs down so that it only supports powermat chargers not qi. The other 3 "should" be fine with this backplate.
Edit: suppose the link would help lol

personally looking for a stock back plate that'll work. the Quick Cover is nice and all, but I'd probably trash it like throwing money into the toilet.

That's what I just linked

Sorry I don't trust ebay at all. The first 5 times is my last 5 times

Not all, support Qi. AT&T's does PMA for some retarded reason.

They have a deal with PMA so of course they are going to request and push that standard.
Personally I think PMA and Qi need to be locked into a room and come up with a single standard.

PMA can suck it

charging through a case
anyone tried wireless charging through a slim case?

Um are the prices going to get lower than $40? I thought the back would be a cheap purchase.

Well got my cover today. Can confirm that it does work with QI charging . Unbranded is a double win. It's an actual LG cover intended for these units just before they stamp the carrier logo on it. Win win.

Grey keeps selling out rather fast as that color seems to be more popular. The listing for this one was http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=151340368484. All the ~$20 backplates I've seen are just replacements and don't have the charging coil, just NFC.
If you keep an eye on that seller they'll probably come back. When I ordered mine, all 3 colors were available.

[Review] RnD charging dock w/spare battery charger

Hey everybody. I'm reviewing the RnD charging dock that charges a spare battery. It isn't the 3 pin charger, its a micro USB charger. I've had one of these for my thunderbolt and I liked it.

On Amazon, it didn't specify if it was for the LTE or GSM version. Its for the GSM version. Although the LTE version fits with both the standard and extended battery (which is what I got), the spare battery slot on the back will only fit the standard GSM battery which is smaller than the LTE so no guys, the spare slot does not charged any extended battery nor the LTE standard battery as I've tried
The dock has a micro USB port in the back and it comes with a USB wall adapter which is like and I think it charges the phone pretty damn quit
There is a blue light in they front that tells you its charging. It only stays blue. I wish it would turn red to tell you its fully charged but it only stays blue. Not much of a big deal but its just something I wished it would do
On Amazon it says it fits without taking the case off your phone. Obviously for us LTE users, its a no go. But for GSM users, I'm sure it will take a really thin case to fit into the cradle. I'm not sure if you can notice very small spaces in the pictures before but those are supposed to be for the case to fit
I do not recommend this but I do have a thin case on my LTE GNex that I got from Best Buy when I bought it and I managed to get it to fit into the dock with some force but I do not recommend it lol
Okay guys for $20, this isn't a bad option to have til we wait for the 3 pin dock to come out. I enjoyed RnD in the past and I expect to enjoy it again. Hope someone I some how helped someone out there with this little review. Any questions just ask

Thanks for the review. I wonder if it will fit the GSM version with a casemate barely there case. I may just buy it.. lol
I just bought this too
I just purchased this dock and i agree. good quality and fits like a glove. nice weight to it too, so you can use the touchscreen without it feeling like its going to fall over.
on top of that. i just got the 2100mah extended battery with the larger battery cover... and it fits! a bit tighter... but not a problem at all.
---------- Post added at 09:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 AM ----------
I noticed in your pics that there was no insert/adapter. Mine came with an additonal plastic insert that snapped into the dock. I dont use a case, and this made it fit snugly.

Have tried to find it on other sites, but without luck :S - If you know another site selling this - please let me know..
If anyone here at XDA would buy this one for me and sent it to Denmark, I would appriciate that and and I will of course pay all costs..
Edit.. found it on another site

Lol I never got that insert
Came home from work to find mine chilling in the door and my first thought was a "meh". It fits my LTE GN with the official extended battery well (snug, but I'm not fighting to dock it) and it's balanced enough that I feel secure that it's not about to tip over in use. As said before, the second battery charger isn't big enough for the LTE battery, but I wasn't planning on using that anyhow.
Overall, it's a good deal better than the *nothing* I was using, but I'm a little annoyed that the listing on Amazon didn't indicate which version of the device was for. Given what I know now, I don't regret picking it up, but doing it over again, I would have likely kept shopping around.

Silicone case for Note 10.1

I see Amazon has few from some seller named "Exact Deal". This one here http://amzn.com/B008ZSD1RS has one bad review:
The buyer with the bad review claimed that the thing was for a Tab and not for the Note. He didn't give any follow up. Has anybody else bought this one or any other Silicone case? Although I have a leather case already, I prefer simple set up and not having to turn any cover to start touching my tablet.

I did seethe comments to the review but the buyer didn't get back. The second comment is mine, but he hasn't answered yet, I even emailed the seller. I'll let you guys know what I find out. I really want something I don't have to flip to start using my tablet.

Found this one. Looks like the other one, but not released yet. Around the same price, but more photos. Looks good to me. Think I'll order it.
http://www.amazon.com/MiniSuit-Gala...76&sr=1-200&keywords=Samsung+Galaxy+Note+10.1
Yep I saw that one too. But concentrated on the one that had hope to be for the Note. I found several silicone cases (even of different colors) but they all showing the Galaxy Tab. There are no visible holes for the IR and SD port. And they don't show the bottom area to see if there is a hole for the pen.
GumDrop has one already, BestBuy has it, I didn't check if Amazon had it. I'm not ready in paying 50 bucks for a piece of rubber. At least the one you pointed out only costs 4 bones, so it will not hurt to be wrong. But it will still suck cause according to the dude from the first case I posted the Tab case didn't fit the Note.
Ron

The one I posted is for the Note. The photos are of the Note, unlike the photo for the one you posted, which doesn't show the front of the tab.
---------- Post added at 09:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 PM ----------
Are you looking for a specific color?
I think all Silicone case like the one in the first post will have top and bottom problems, see in the picture how its loose. You will have better luck getting the following even though it is more expensive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlGl_vu5uz0 ...it's for the Galaxy 10.1, but same company so the one for the Note 10.1 should be fairly the same.

It's the same as the original post.
Secondly, look at this pic:
There is no hole for the IR port which is between the volume bottons and the audio jack. I can't really tell whether the big slot is just for volume or whether it encompasses the SD Card as well. If you look at the far left end, that is where the pen is, there should a protrusion in that corner that should be visible even at that angle. And well, the third pic, well that's dead give-away; it says Galaxy Tab and it does not have a hole for the pen.
The link that the other poster provided, I agree with you. the lighter the better for me and would prefer if the bezel is not covered (I don't want to feel that I'm writing in a hole). It's out of stock by the way and btw I didn't see that one in my research and thought I saw them all...
Ron
They are all over Ebay at the moment for import, only issues would be shipping times.
From the pictures some do have the cutout for the IR sensor.

Tab 2 looks just like our note. The only difference is the pen slot and IR blaster (structural difference); the guts are different too but that's irrelevant for this discussion. Two persons holding 1 of each would look no different to the common viewer.
Apparently the dimensions are a bit different from the buyer review I posted. He states that he had force the tablet into the case suggesting that the Tab 2 was a bit smaller.
Ron
Dang. I was counting on the one from MiniSuits.

I took the plunge and got a clear one and black one. That should arrive to me here in Belize on the 1st of Oct. I'll let you guys know as well. I also ordered this. Seems like a nice concept if you travel alot. I'm an avid motorcycle rider and at times I take one of my tablets with me and with this case I can simply dash my tablet in one of my saddle bags and don't worry about it being knocked around for the whole trip.
Great news. thanks.

qi wireless request

hi just received my long awaited qi wireless pad from china only to find it does not include the receiver part that fits over battery, bahh!!!
does anyone know where i can purchase one from in the UK ,Dont want to wait all that time again ,your help would be greatly appreciated .
sorry, but that seems to be the only choice unless you can find an ebay seller who sells in the UK.
You might want to contact that seller to get them to ship the receiver pad to you.
I would've suggested against getting the transmitter from them to begin with though. apparently the 2nd gen ones are picky and unreliable.

Something you don't want to hear, is these receiver are becoming unreliable just like the transmitter, with cases reported to either DOA or stop working after a while with some of the new batches, there are some good new, it's only a small %.
Apparently it's all related to rushed production with bad QC due to great demand.
Mostly with the name 'Charmlink' printed on the front label, so it's best to ask if there is warranty for them.
Another option for Canada and USA buyers, this guarantees no bulky look because it replaces a new cover for you.:good:

that's pretty slick. Should have been stock from Samsung so cases were built off those specs. I would imagine any case that fits well won't work with that cover. Still pretty sweet setup.
that back piece will not fit with any case whatsoever. It's a different size and you'll either have to mod the case or the battery cover.
The receiver pad by itself would add a slight bump that can be circumvented with a more "restricting" case like the otterbox or the ballistic sg

Fits under OEM cover. Small Hump, barely noticeable. (< 1/16 inch hump)
Diztronic TPU Matte Black Case fits great
Charges about 10% in 30 Minutes. Similar to plug.
NFC works fine. Zero issues.
for Reference, I am running DarthStalker X, Stock Kernel.
yup. the Qi receiver pad seems the be the best choice in terms of getting to put your own case of choice as well as not losing NFC at the same time.
I believe the charging speed is a little faster than usb but slower than AC (according to the receiver pad).
the more flexible cases seem to be the ones that can cope with the bump.
Could anyone recommend a trusted website or seller to by the charging pad from?

I only know of ebay or directly contacting the manufacturer... both aren't 100% trustworthy.. but it seem to have worked with other members here.

Thanks for the replies since those are my only options, do either of you or any one else recommend a brand of the charging pads? I know there's the palm touch stone, duracel, powermat and so on. But what would you guys recommend?

Tylt Wireless Charger for LG G3

After messing with some cheap wireless chargers on Ebay and getting the slow charging I said screw that and bought two Tylt wireless chargers for $35 each at a T-Mobile store. Not all stores have them and it took the manager some time to even find the SKU to check inventory at stores. The SKU is SUPM39575. Happy with the Tylt since it's made well and you just place it on and it charges fast enough. Some chargers are picky with the G3 but the Tylt doesn't require any sweet spot to charge. Amazon and Micro center carry the Tylt but it probably cost more.
Tylt probably works with most cases. It does with my Nillkin. I haven't tried with my Insignia case yet.
You need a sticker for wireless charging. I got mine from this thread (thanks iazybandit). Not sure if he has anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/accessories/feeler-buy-qi-nfc-sticker-t2827738
Also you can get them from this place in China. Not sure if Ebay has any yet.
Tylt has a light at the bottom and turns green when charging. If it turns red pull it off and put back on.

Picked up one today. Called 3 different T-Mobile stores. The one I happened upon that I didn't call had them. Only bought one since I already have a Nokia one.
I used the Tylt Vue with my Nexus 5 and absolutely loved it. It's just been sitting on my nightstand the past month until I could figure out how to get wireless charging to work with my G3.
I finally ordered THIS BACKPLATE that finally arrived and after installing it wireless charging is working great!
Tmobile have it for $35? I called two stores and they say it's $70.

Price shows up at checkout.
Thanks for this tip. I had to call around about 5 locations but found one with two in stock. They also had a buy two get one free on accessories so I ended up with a external battery pack for free.
Damn. I wonder why the manager didn't tell me about the buy two accessories get one free. I don't really need another accessory though. Lol
I got them at 35.00 in Chicago 2 days ago.
Using the Tylt Vu with my D851, works flawlessly and charges at full speed. Very happy.

I think that promo is over, just tried and they showed up as 69.99 each. 52.70 after the 25% off back to school promo code. I ended up buying two from Amazon for 59 each (no tax, free 2-day shipping).

I just bought from a place near Chicago and they actually have discount stickers on them, with $34.99 on the front (the original price sticker on the back).
What sort of speed are you getting with charging? It seems to me that it charges a fair bit slower than I was getting with my USB charger.
That said, I have never used the LG charger. I've been using the 2A charger from my Note 2 and the 1.8 blackberry charger that was spoken of highly by a member here.

You should see about 20-25% an hour. This is what I get with mine.
I saw it for $70 I had no idea they were marked down looks like I'll pick one up tomorrow then!
I just ordered a gold battery cover whoop whoop.

Can't find them for $35 here in NYC at all. Nor on T-Mobile's website.
It charges as fast as the wired charger for me.

I think that's about what I'm getting.. but I'm sure I was getting much quicker speeds with the wired charger. I'm going to do some tests over the next few days to see for sure.

Wow, you just missed it. These were on sale for 50% off direct from Tylt. They were selling them for $35. Site now show all sold out, sorry. Alternatively you can get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Wireless-Charging--Shipping-Distributed/dp/B00LE6X5VU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1417572633&sr=8-11&keywords=qi+charger
Its a Vu clone but works just as well. I also own this version and really they work the same. Highly recommend it as well.
Did you guys get the sticker or a complete new back cover? Wondering which would be the better route (price aside).

I bought a back replacement from Korea total cost was $26 from eBay. Best investment so far. At the time all sellers for the stickers did not have any in stock would have loved to save some money but I'm content and know this is LG made. Get yourself a quality qi charger too. I was lucky and walked into a T-Mobile store in Edison NJ while I was working and they had 2 Tylt Vue chargers on sale for $35. Works flawlessly. At another T-Mobile store in Astoria NY they had on display the new Samsung qi charger for their S6 and it was only able to slow charge my G3. Same thing at a bestbuy too only slow charging on the S6 qi charger.
I ended up getting a complete back cover. Also bought a red Tylt off Amazon's Warehouse Deals. Pretty excited! Just got my phone in today, rooted, put in krowley3's "cleanrom". Loving the phone so far.

USB C Charging Stand for Car with Screen Open

I'd like to find a mount/dock/stand of some kind that would have a USB 3 cable that I could mount somewhere in my car where the Fold 2 could be open -- or closed and sitting tightly and not move around. The only ones I found so far would only work if it was closed. I even looked for ones for tablets but it doesn't look like there is much to choose from.
For my Note 8, I had two devices strapped together that locked into one of my cup holders about 10" high in the center area between the front seats. I could just sit the phone into for charging and Android Auto and easily view the screen if I needed to.
Go to www.Proclip.com. Get the tablet holder for up to 7.6 inches.
I saw this video looked decent ...https://youtu.be/1MBJkZR758Q
Edit I see it not in stock on Amazon

This One Charges Wirelessly
This one should charge the Fold wirelessly when open. I have not gotten my Custom Fold 2 yet, but I bought this in anticipation.
It fits my current Note 10+ with a case so it should work with the Fold 2. Won't let me post an actual link.

YES!
It was the only way I could aford to do it. Money is tight, but I just had to have this phone. It is the first phone that I have been really excited about in years.
This one works for me with the phone opened or closed:

I'm using this one. Works great while it's fully open. The motorised clamp holds it in place.
We'll see if this can last long in terms of durability.
Thank you for sharing really excited to try this out! Do you have a link to this haven't been able to find it?

I love that, but wish it had a USB C plug instead of Qi charging for Android Auto.

Sweet. Thanks for the pics and the link!
I've been using this mount for years and years and it has lasted through lots of phones. Works great for the Z fold 2 also. I use it as a vent mount, but there are so many possibilities and so easy to change quickly. It takes a bit of working with to get it right, but I have used it for over 5 years in my current car and never have taken it out of the vent, just changed it a bit for each phone. Works perfect with it in open position. Not fancy or anything, just a holder. https://www.breffo.com/products/breffo-spiderpodium

I have it already, and I agree. It also has to go in "Buttons Down", which isn't terrible, but I'll live w/it and cut a slot in the left grab arm so I can Qi and USB, or flip it and use only USB. (Which is exactly what you want!)

I guess I wasn't quite clear enough? Buttons down = Qi charging works, but no button access.

Oh OK, thanks for the clarification and thanks for the link. The one from Amazon looks a little different. But at least I can get it much sooner than Aliexpress.

I'm pretty sure it's the same one. Aliexpress is likely selling a Chinese clone.
