[Q] Installing Chrome or any APK's - Amazon Fire Phone

Looks like ES File Explorer isn't available in the Amazon app store for the Fire Phone. I've tried downloading .apk's from elsewhere via silk to no avail (it looks like it is specifically not allowing *.apk's to download). There is the option to allow installing 3rd party apps, but not sure how to get the apk on the device. Anyone found a way yet?

Mine is still sitting on a UPS truck somewhere here in town, will have it soon. I sure hope we can at least get gMail and Chrome working otherwise I may return mine shortly after getting it.
Edit: oh crap, didn't realize YouTube will not work either.

adb sideloading works...
I was able to enable USB debugging by going into Settings > Device > Get Info About Your Fire and tapping the device name 5 times.
After that I following this guide ( https://developer.amazon.com/post/T...p-the-ADB-driver-for-Kindle-Fire-Devices.html ) to get the right Kindle adb driver installed.
From there I used the chrome apk found here ( http://www.thinkcomputers.org/how-to-install-google-chrome-on-the-amazon-kindle-fire-hd/ ) and did a "adb install chrome.apk"
So far, so good...

Awesome, wondering if google maps would work the the same.

gmail, youtube, etc have also been installed following this guide... http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hd-hdx/30736/
Not sure about the stability yet, but I will report my findings...

Awesome, mine just arrived. I may leave it shrink wrapped for a couple more hours though.

I've been having difficulties getting my Windows 7 computer to detect the Fire Phone as a valid USB device. Windows tries to install drivers for it but always says drivers are not available. I just installed the android SDK and tried the Kindle drivers and the Google drivers, neither worked as well. I'm very frustrated at this point.

Ok, Windows 7 now sees my phone. I run the "N edition" and had to install many of the packages "N" excludes by default so it was an OS/Microsoft issue.

I just installed the basic four but the google framework crashes frequently while using google apps. The apps work but the framework crashing messages are annoying.

ES File Explorer
I had no issues with downloading this straight to my firephone then installing it. I did have to do some Google.fu to find the apk from a reliable source initialy but once on it is working as normal. If I can find the apk I used ill either upload it to my Google Drive and link or link straight to it if possible.

Es File Explorer
ES Fire Explorer is available for Fire phone. All you need to do is go to Amazon Appstore in your Fire and search for "ES File Explorer" and it will be there.

Yes, ES File Explorer is now on the Amazon App Store
I have installed it, along with many other apks I found on Google, such as Chrome, Instagram, uTorrent, Pandora and a bunch of games like Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Nova, GTA San Andreas and others.
So far everything is working fine. Ive had my Fire Phone for about a month now and it's really not a bad phone. It does everything I need it to.
The only issue I have noticed is that after I have been playing a high definition game for longer than 45 mins or so, the phone does start to get hot. But I just stop playing for a bit and it's fine.
Back to the original question though, yes ES File Explorer is now on the App store and working properly, and you can install just about any apk you can find.

Kindle Fire: Install Apps outside US

Hello there everybody
Nice to meet you all
I come before you with a grave problem: Is there another way to install apps on a rooted kindle outside the US? For sideloading, you need a free app from the Amazon App Store, which, I had to find out, was not available outside the US.
In retrospect, it was quite a stupid thing to buy the device. Lesson learned.
But maybe you might know a way? (I can't install the google market without a file explorer)
Thank you.
I contacted Unblock-Us and they told me they are working on supporting the Amazon App Store. If they do, then it's just a matter of setting your router's DNS according to what they give you and it'll be possible. They have a week of free trial which is enough to download the file explorer you want.
Outside of that, I'm in the same problem. The second option would be to have someone in America register a dummy Amazon account onto his Kindle Fire, click "buy" on the free file explorer app, then de-register, and when you register your own Kindle Fire to the same account, you could sync the app with your kindle. As far as I know, Amazon still allows syncing your bought content into the device even outside the US (I never tested this though).
If anyone can please volunteer to try the second option that would be awesome. Till then we need to wait for Unblock-Us.

I don't really see anywhere in that thread where you can sideload apps without the ES Explorer or some other sort of app.. we can't download apps at all.
Another thread on that site says that you can install apps as long as you have a US account on Amazon.. which is not true. I have an account with a US address, US credit card and US location for the kindle and it says my location is not the US on the Fire, meaning it tracks IP.
Could adb be used, So download ES to the PC and use adb install ? That should work fine
or get the ES apk file from google, upload to dropbox, access dropbox from fire, it will automatically install it for u.

Wait.. you can just download APK files and install it? Is it really that easy?
All the guides said you need ES Explorer which is what was so misleading. There's no issue here at all and you don't need an explorer for anything, just Google.
Side loading
Hi, did you try side loading the ES file explorer?

Just a little detail on what got my file explorer working in the UK:
Downloaded the needed apk file (don't ask - probably a really dodgy source). I copied it into my Program Files\Androidzandroid-sdk\platform-tools folder (for ease of install).
Then installing was as easy as "adb install *****.apk" (enter your filename).
Complete success, and now with my root file manager I can now do all the other things.
I'm one who has an american amazon account with bank account and everything. Seems as if some geo-ip mapping is stopping purchases from outside america, even on US devices.
Hope this helps.
You don't need additional apps to install APK files
Hey bikkou, that's right, you don't need additional apps to install APK files on your Kindle Fire. I agree, all threads out there seem misleading in this point.
I emailed myself an APK file, accessed my email account with the built in browser, downloaded the file, and then, when I tapped the file (which was listed in the downloads section) the device offered me the option to install the application.

Trio 4.3 Root and Google Play Store

Hi,
Like everyone else I have to say"Follow these instructions at your own risk" I do not take any responsibility for any thing that happens. It worked for me so it may work for you!
Trio 4.3 Internet Tablet M4302 Model Trio 4.3MID 4.0C by Mach Speed Technologies
I just picked this tablet up. I have successfully rooted it and have installed a working Play Store. I now have access to all my apps that I use on my Galaxy Note 10.1.
To root I used the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Once I had root I wanted to get Google Play Store on the tab. I found a couple of places that had information concerning adding Play Store to other devices and kind of pieced the info together to come up with this solution.
1. Download gapps for ICS. http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
2. Unzip file
3. Navigate to the " System/app " folder and find "phonesky.apk and setupwizard.apk"
(You will need to copy these two files to your tablet)
4. Once files are on tablet use something like "Root Explorer" to copy both to the "system/app" folder of the tablet.
(The folders will need to be mounted as "R/W" so they can be written to )
5. After the files are copied to the proper folder, you need to edit the permissions for both.
6. In "Root Explorer" long press on each file and choose "permissions"
7. Edit permissions to read "Owner: Read, Write" "Group: Read" "Others: Read"
8. Reboot and launch Play Store
Frys has this for $49...thinking I might need to order it as a music player for my 2 month old!
I used this method to get Google Play Store to work, But its not rooted. At least you can download the files.

works great thanks successfully rooted and installed google play on my trio stealth lite 4.3" internet tablet m4302 runing android 4.0.4 :victory:
Mine came rooted
Thank you for this post!
Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone who finds this thread through Google or whatever, like I did, that it's possible your device is already rooted.
I bought mine today from Big Lots - branded as a: Trio 4.3" Touch Screen Media Player for Android by Mach Speed Technologies - on the box (well blister plastic wrap thing that is Hades to open...). The instruction user's manual, however just calls it a Trio 4.3" Internet Tablet.
(Specs from the box.)
Android OS 4.0
4.3" Capacitive Touch Screen
4GB Internal Memory with Micro SD Slt (Up to 32GB)
Built-in WiFi
Speaker
Auto Rotate for Portrait & Landscape Viewing
1.2GHz Processor
Rechargable Li-on Battery
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you, and let everyone know to check your device first. There may be better ways to check, but there are a couple of apps in the Amazon App Store called "Root Checker" - don't get the "My Root Checker" - it has crazy pop-up ads - I deleted it in seconds. But just check to see if your device is rooted. It could save you some time, and potential headaches.
Well, jsut confirming that this guide works. In the root post, I used the stadard root method...if you are like me and got this for a little one, they wanted apps. Of course I couldnt open until today...but it really works. I just dowloaded the root explorer apk (a quick google search worked) and installed it...i can upload a screen shot if necessary

This. I picked up two of these devices and both were already rooted.
Dude, does anybody have the factory rom? I don't even have custom recovery but, I fukt up and tried to install cm9 and it says to reset the phone but, the touchscreen wont work. I dunno if I'm gonna be able to fix this or not. I've hard bricked a lot of android phones and still fixed em somehow so maybe I can. Any help?

Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
My Trio also had root access right out of the box. Followed the instructions right down to obtaining the "root explorer" apk. Worked like a charm, no issues at all. Now I just need to find a custom rom that will perform better than stock. Thanks for all the info.
Hulu Plus
Since this is the best thread for this tablet I've found. I wanted to ask if anyone has gotten Hulu to work? I have installed many different versions including the latest and all of them will play the ads just fine, but once it gets the episode it just sits there and buffers and buffers and buffers. Devices on the same WIFI have no issues. I am even talking with Hulu suppor about it and of course they are playing dumb about it and just giving me standard troubleshooting. Is this tablet blocked by Hulu somehow because it's chinese made? I don't get a region error, which I can force with proxies and such. I just get buffering and buffering and buffering. Any help would be much appreciated.
I need firmware or update.zip im stuck on boot screen.

Rooted successfully, have play store app but won't open...help

I properly rooted my Kindle fire HD. I then tried to install the play store app. I went to about 5 or 6 different website with similar but different instructions how to get the play store app working. For the life of me I can't get it to work. I have all the files installed and it shows the play store app on the device but when I click on it nothing happens. It will let me install the program but when I click open it does nothing. I've restarted it, tried different tips from different websites and am completely at a loss for what my next trouble shooting tip needs to be.
Also, I saw where you can remove the ads by changing the extension name of a file to .bat or go in and uncheck some boxes, both in the super user ES3 folders and neither one will accept the changes.
Please help my sanity.

Uninstall the Play Store in whatever way you can (such as using ES File Explorer), then use the KF Fist Aide tool to install the Play Store again. It also has an option to remove the Amazon ads too.

DT2 ? Is it possible to sideload?

Hi Chaps....
Honestly didn't know where else to go for help on this one...
First off.... I've been happily playing DT2 with my amazon controller since I first got my Firetv box (non rooted) v 51.1.6.3,.... right up until today,... when i was met with "Please update your application with a new version" and I was quickly kicked back to the fire os screen. I tried contacting madfinger games but it seems they have dropped windows and Amazon support. Ages ago I had moved a lot of my apps to an sd card,... but due to DT2 writing to the card a lot it became corrupted... so i reinstalled it to the firetv box then moved it to the sd card, backed it up to my pc and then put it back on to the firetv. (hope your still with me).
I just wanted to know if it would be possible to sideload the latest version 2-1.2.0 onto the firetv box.
I really don't understand why they dropped support for amazon because it ran like a dream on my box. (also lost 2400 in gold as well).
I noticed that the original DT2 that i backed up was an apk that was just over 488mb in size,... but the new apk that i've downloaded is only 25mb. (I'm still in the process of downloading the OBB data files, although I don't know if they will be of much use.
Is this just a waste of time chaps or does anyone know if i can get this to work.
I'm okay with adb push pull, ect... so just need to know if it'll work.
really appreciate any help as playing a game on a tv is a hell of a lot better than burning my eye sockets out on a monitor.... lol
I have absolutely no idea how i done this, but i'll explain as best i can.
I uninstalled DT2,... luckily its still in the cloud if it all goes belly up. I then installed apps2fire on my phone and downloaded DT2.
I then sent the main apk to my firetv. (probably went wrong here) but i ran the apk.... DT2 started to run but then said that it needed to download some files (around 250mb) but failed with an error code of "Download Failed Because The Resources Could Not Be Found".
Unaware of what this meant i then managed to locate the obb files on my file and wrote down the name of the folder they were in.
using es file explorer i created the same named folder in the same place on the firetv.
I then created another folder called dt2 on the phone and moved the obb file into it. I then used apps2fire and located to obb file and sent it to the firetv. so far so good. next problem was "where was the obb file". I managed to locate it, but only after i changed the folder view in es file explorer. I then copied and pasted the obb into the folder i created ealier within the obb folder.
I then ran DT2 again, but this time is said that it required files from the google playstore. I had a choice for the software to download what it needed and I let it do it's thing.
This time when I ran DT2 it started playing the intro... I skipped all the first parts so that i could log back in with my own details.
This time the game ran but the images look different to the original firetv version. Don't get me wrong, they look great. plus the amazon controller works perfectly.
I then closed the game.
when I went to go back to play it, the icon said that there was an update available.... (I had already gone through this once before, and it never worked).. but this time it did. and the xmas version is now installed.
This was a rough way of doing things, but i did some google searches and used details from these sites... (hope i can post these)....
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/2g7cgy/how_would_i_go_about_sideloading_a_game_that_has/
http://www.aftvnews.com/sideload/
http://filehex.com/dead-trigger-2/
http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?8829-obb-files-and-dead-trigger-2
all of this was done legally using programs available on firetv and an android phone. no other apk's or obbs were used.
Hope this helps in some way,....
seems I was a little too quick to say it was working...... as soon as i went to play in a tournament the start button had become greyed out.
but the firetv game controller still worked and by pressing "B" i was about to back out of the locked screen.
Also the "there is an update available" has returned to the main dt2 icon, but it always fails right at the very end of the loading bar.
I managed to play the game for about an hour and then tried the tournament since then its been very buggy.
Would it be anything to do with google play services chaps?

Help Needed - Restore Amazon app store

Hi all,
So I thought I was being smart and tried to install the fireos app store to try skygo on my fire stick 4k.. also stupidly installed on my fire tv (the old box one) as I was using apps2fire and had the wrong ip set!
The problem I've got now is I can't open any apps or the app menu. And to make it worse the app store I installed doesn't work either!!
Could anyone extract the FireTV version so I can reinstall it properly?
If that doesn't work, does anyone know how I can restore without having to reinstall and setup all my apps?
Cheers
Ok after a lot of troubleshooting I've managed to solve this.
For anyone who might ever manage to end up making the same stupid mistake.. I installed ES file explorer on my phone, pushed it to the fire stick (Amazon appstore version wouldn't open with busted app store). Navigate to system apps and find com.amazon.venezia, that's the appstore. Delete it!
Once I removed it, it was magically replaced with the normal one and all is good.
