[Q] Any ROM's for the G Pad 10.1 LTE - G Pad 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i just picked up a G Pad 10.1 on Verizon LTE. I love it. Great bang for the buck. But I never satisfied with stock. Is there anyone out there making ROM's for this device.
Will safestrap work as well?

No Roms yet it can be rooted with towel root but recoveries are still being worked on.

Were you able to get it rooted? I just picked mine up too, it's awesome but definitely want it rooted. I didn't realize it just came out on Verizon earlier this month, so I think there will be a lot more people on here soon looking for rooting and ROMs!

I tried it, but unfortunately it failed on gpad vzw vk700 8.3, probably because I'm using a VM(don't have an "actual" Windows box). The size difference wouldn't matter ...or would it?
Thought it bricked for a second there, it took a full minute holding 'power' to exit the download screen, no brick, but no root either. So here's the dilemma, the script is looking for a serial port (COM1-2-3-4) I mapped COM1 in the VM to tty0 on the host and I'm guessing that's the wrong port, if I do
$dmesg | grep tty
I get
[ 0.000000] console [tty0] enabled
[10552.838890] cdc_acm 1-2:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
and that's not it, it gives me that whether the tablet's plugged in or not,
if I do $lsusb the tablet is listed as mass storage (where as e.g. the keyboard is listed as serial).
If anyone's got experience in guest to host device mapping on virtual machines, I'd appreciate the input, or any clues as to what I could be doing wrong, I'll provide any other info as necessary if anyone's feeling magnanimous, I'm kind of out of ideas at this point.
I get the feeling that if I do a hard install of Win7 it'll work, but I'd really rather not install an entire os on a 'maybe'.

I've had nothing but problems on 2 different Galaxy Note 2 phones since I installed the drivers from the SPH-L900 toolbox.
I have trouble believing that this is normal. Mine was fine until I rooted it with the toolbox. Now, I don't want to take anything away from the developers that created the toolbox...If it wasn't for them and their immense generosity, then I wouldn't have a rooted phone. I just fail to see what has happened between having the phone stock without root and it having zero issues with hardware id missing and being able to be recognized by my pc, to the quick toolbox root and the same troubles with 2 different phones in 2 weeks.
I don't say for certain, but it looks like they use the same software: USB GS3: ver 1.5.14 versus GN2 USB ver 1.5.14. Thus, you'll probably be ok.
Are you using the usb cord that came with the phone? If you are throw it away, its worthless. Had that problem with my s1

Actually no. I'm using the cheapy i keep always attached to my pc. I have to use the one that came with the phone with the mhl adapter because the cheapy cord has too much resistance and not enough power goes through which causes excessive battery drain

Not without unlock currently. Which, if you were unlocked i would assume you'd have already rooted. Sad to say there isn't anything for those that didn't get the unlock while it was available on day 1.

and I totally understand. But there are like 8 threads about root, and they all have the same answer right now, and theres even a donations thread and someone who you can pay to s-off your phone.
It's getting a little nuts with these new root threads when the answer is - no, you can't root (well, bootloader unlock) right now. I mean it's literally on the front pages of the forum for this device.

SIM unlock yet?

Is there almost after 6 months of release simple and free way to sim unlock the phone? Same question about rooting (I mean SIMPLE and HUMAN way without risking to brick the phone of screwing up the warranty)?
If I remember correct Infuse 4G took a few months to be rooted/unlocked.
I used region lock away app and it did it for me. You also need to pay the phone off as well.

Yeah it worked I paid my device off like a month ago and it's usually 40 days and then you have to ask tmpbile to unlock it. But yesterday I went into an att store and had them put the sim in, and it didn't ask for a code so I knew that the app worked. After I put the sim in and registered everything I had to put the correct APN in and all was well.

I also did Region Lock Away and it worked fine for me. It's been out for a while too.
As for the risk, i've found that if you do the research and RTFM (read the f*(king manual), i.e. read the instructions carefully, there is very little chance that you will brick your phone. I rooted mine via auto root (also by Chainfire I believe), which has also been out for a while.
Also, if you're unsure, just ask. That's what XDA is for. People won't flame you for being a nub, unless...well...never mind.
Thanks to all!

How to remove ads

I like the retail note 4. The screen is fabulous and its fast. However I cannot get by being inundated by the advertisments. Some are full page when I open aps and others flash at the top or bottom of the screen. Very distracting.
Is there an ap or a way to eliminate or at least remove most of the ads. Please be specific. I have gone back to my rooted, unlocked note 2. Will return the 4 if I cannot resolve this issue on the retail 4.
Unfortunitly I do not want to spend 700 for a DE note4. Thanks

I have a 180 day free trial code for the Pro version that I haven't activated yet so if someone wants it let me know.
until there is Root, there's not much you can do about it. Adblock Plus works if you're on wifi, but I noticed that it sucks more battery power and makes the phone run hotter than usual.
My solution was to sell my Retail note 4 (since with all the rebates, I only paid $100 for it), and buy a DE Note 4.

A cheaper (temporary) solution would be to use your apps in 'Airplane Mode,' assuming it is not too much of an inconvenience :good:
I usually do this when there is no paid version for an app/game :3
In hindsight I guess that it's pretty obvious lol but I'm going to leave it here anyways

I posted a link to it up a few posts, I was using it before I got my DE and it works, I did not notice any increase in battery usage either.
I still have a 180 day trial code for the Pro version if someone wants it.
I made thread covering adguard and works great. Developer even jumped in thread to explain. It creates it's own vpn.Only way to block ads on a unrooted device. Adblock will only work on WiFi without root. AdGuard works on both WiFi & Cellular!

Got to admit it, Adgaurd is working awesome. I activated the the pro trial version and it's blocking everything MOAAB or Jrummys ad blocker did. Ads and themes are the main reasons I root. Root discussion(Think tank)

It's still early and I have a feeling it will take a while until we have some form of root (if at all), but where should we start? I personally do not know the first place to start, but if anyone out there has any ideas, feel free to discuss them here.
I would like to make a bounty, but it seems like the trend has been a purchase is required to get root.

Again, mobile hotspot doesn't work if you have unlimited data. Since it took about 6 months for the original Turbo to get mofo root, I have a feeling it's gonna take just as long, if ever. They still haven't found a way to write to the system within an image.
It's a shame, they got you good with getting you on a tiered line, and of course they're gonna give free mobile hotspot to tiered users for that exact reason that it eats up data. It gives you a greater chance of going over your data cap, therefore, putting more money into Verizon's greedy little pockets.
I usually average around 75GB a month, so there's no way I will EVER voluntarily give up my unlimited data. They're gonna have to pry it from my cold, dead hands before I ever give up my unlimited data.
