Yes you did read correctly.
The htc hermes does have a GPS
chip it's circuits, however
the chip on all release platforms have had the chip deliberately disabled in the following manor.
1.drivers removed from the roms
2. crucial pins left unconnected
3. a few support components left out
4. antenna pins and support connections for both an internal and external antenna left nonexistent .
It's very unfortunate as I spent the better part of a month looking between the thread here and on 4winmobile only to find that the best of the best hardware hackers had failed to come up with a resolve due to usually lack of tools required, components difficult at times to obtain, and the almost 98% chance of unrepairably damaging the main pcb or the surrounding components in which you would then be left with the preverbial brick of which there is no safty net or special bootloader to save you. thusly I gave up and finally just did what most get when they buy or get the hermes withco pilot. I bought a good bluetooth gps receiver and loaded software for it to be used by. in this case it was tom tom 6.
I feel for you in this one as it would have been nice if the hermes was like the artimas [ie: o2 orbit, t-mobile mda compact]
and had it built in. But alas the is no technical resolve that can be achieved as of now for this other then to go bluetooth external receiver.
*hehe chalk one up for the noobs referring to the senior vs new members to the board which I find funny as I may not post as much as others but I know more then what the rating suggests heheh*
my question is why would high paid asian techs leave some gps chip that would not be used
that is not business like at all
just like carriers leaving ot the front video camera, and still charing ridiculous prices for the unit !!!!!!!!

4 gig cards - will they defo work?

Will this work for sure with my hermes (a tmobile UK version running a recent WM6 flashed rom - whichever variant).

Just to make sure, before i buy it !
ta
Oh my God, please stop asking this question! Yes, buy it. Don't you think there would be lots of threads with people complaining about how they don't work rather than all the ones around here with people talking about how they work fine if that were the case? Come on.
ok, well ta for the confirmation. Sometimes it's a bit tricky to find a clear answer. But this did it. Thanks. bb
No problem.

64MB to 128MB upgrading - question

Hi,
I have two Universals, one which works perfect and the other with the display cracked. So, is there any way that i can extract 64megs from the one uni to make the other device run on 128?
Whats the most updated and easiest procedure to do this....any links? Thanks so much...
cheers
UPDATE:
Never mind guys...just realized the unis come with 2 32meg ram chips....and there arent 4 slots i guess. Man, got to stick with the 64.
Are there any online stores i can buy 64megs ram chips? Also, anyone who does this upgrade as a service (In the US or in Singapore?)

Yes
Have a search on Universal section there is a thread where a Hong Kong store sells tha 2 X 64Mb to convert Uni to 128mb!
Then you can sold them to main board and 128Mb!!!
Good luck and tell us how all went!,
It seems like the store which offers ram upgrade in hong kong is "Octomobile.com" but their site seems to be down
I wonder if they've wound up...or are just temporarily down at the moment.
Any other place i can do this? Maybe someplace in Singapore...?
thanks!

NFC bus tickets

So the country I'm visiting has these nfc bus fare tickets and they're pretty cheap and I'd like to use them after they're useless as nfc tags. Problem is they seem to be write protected. Does that mean there's no way to write to them or can they be overwritten? I'm a total noob at this whole nfc thing but I did manage to figure out that it's mifare ultralight. Any program I could use on Win7? And if there is can I use my phone (S4) as some usb nfc reader?
Write protected means you can't override them. However, you can use your phone and NFC Retag to do some cool stuff
you can't overwrite them, but there's already something written on them that you can use to identify that tag. so you could still use it to let your phone do something when you put it near it

How do you know they are write protected ?
Ive used an android app to read nfc tags which also claims to be able to write to them... I dont remember its name, but there's a few that do.
They have introduced NFC bus cards here in Australia over the past 12-18 months and ive become curious.
Stores have the ability to 'add credit' to them via some device they posses so I doubt they are (at least the ones here) write protected... just probably encrypted.
I only have a galaxy S2 which has no NFC so I havent had much chance to investigate, but I did have a quick look at a few cards with my friends S5, which reads the cards fine.
I would be curious what happens if you 'cash up' a card... read and store the nfc data, then write it back to the same card once the card runs low. Though in all honesty I doubt it is that easy... but who knows... maybe it is
We've had these cards in England... Since... Forever?
Shops can top them up, but I think that it doesn't actually write anything to them. Instead, it gets the cards ID then looks it up on the bus companies database, tops it up. And probably charges something from the guy in the shop.
I don't know for sure, but I think this is what is going on. Or someone would have cracked the encryption on these already.
there are different versions of cards, and also different security settings.
there is a soft protection, a permanent protection and it is also possible to password protect some cards
Re-Tagging the tags should do the trick, i guess

Anyone?
Hi friend,
I'm in the same ditch as you are.
I don't trust those videos one bit.
I really love those Wiko Lenny 3 phones. They are cheap (40 dollars) and are really something nice. But I don't want to brick my phone just yet.
Is there a safe way to root these phones?
I'm actually surprised this hasn't come any further. The phone is pretty awesome for the price but the SIM lock is annoying as hell. Speaking about it, it actually has 2 SIM card slots which is pretty awesome.
I bought some nice games so far for my account and I love to use the device. But I wish I could root it and use the full potential of this device
Has anybody rooted this device successfully?
It's being sold in Switzerland in the post stores for CHF 40 / about 40 dollars with 2 years of SIM lock to Swisscom.
It's a great deal, but I wish I could **** up the SIM lock.
Any success stories and manuals would be highly appreciated!
Regards,
Pix
