[Q] S6 Samsung and apps (Facebook & instagram) lag issue - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I got the new Samsung s6 phone. I'm having a problem with lag issues using data and not wifi.
What it does is this, when I click on Facebook or Instagram it takes a long time for it to load the new incoming information. if I am on wifi then it loads right away. I went to the Sprint store and they said it has to do with the 4G and the new Samsung phone s6.
I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I actually tested it out on a different phone at the Sprint store and I have the same results.
I'd love to hear some feedback before my 14 days is up.
I'll try to explain it a little bit more, when I click on Facebook and then I pull down on the screen to refresh Facebook I'll get the wheel of death it will last a long time then when I click on someones picture or video it'll take a long time to load it finally loads.
But compared to my s5 it just loads right away. Newport
I'll give me another example I click on Instagram then I click on me the screen and pull down so it can refresh my Instagram. again I get the wheel of death and it takes a long time to load. another example if I click on the search button for photos it takes a long time to load everyone's photos there's some type of lag issue.
When scrolling through my pictures and information on Instagram or Facebook takes time to load everyone's stuff that's why I'm thinking it's some type of lag issue and it only happens when its on data it does not happen when I'm on wifi Thanks

I think there will be a update soon I read here that others have the same issue 14 days go by quick, don't think Samsung wants a **** ton of phones back.

Dumb question but did u update instagram and Facebook in the app store. My instagram was actin weird also and i went to the app store and it had an update that it never notifyed me about.

i have this same issue. i live next to a tower and can get 20mb down with a ping around 45ms while on LTE. i open facebook/instagram and it takes forever for new content to be shown. i switch over to wifi and boom, nearly an instant load of content.
if i open the interwebs and go to facebook.com/instagram.com, the sites load with no problems.
I see an issue with notifications while on LTE/3g/cell network. when i get back on my home wifi, notifications start pouring in.
i have uninstalled the updates, reinstalled the updates. I removed myself from facebook beta program, all with no change. facebook/instagram are in system apps and cant be removed - thanks sprint, hello root.

I have the same issue, however not limited to Facebook and Instagram. Basically its from within any application other than the web browser. Google Music, Tapatalk ...all the same. Basically anything that is in a self contained app will not load in a timely manner.
Several people over at AC have reported having the same issue. Sprint is saying that it is not a known issue and is not currently being addressed. Seems like this phone will have to be returned in the next few days. Having a smart phone that cannot run any apps seems a little pointless.

In the same boat (ugh)
On my S6 I can barely do anything on specific social apps outside of the house. Web browsing is OK, Twitter is OK, can even get decent speed tests, but Facebook? Good god, I can NOT get the Facebook app to reliably refresh when on LTE. App works flawlessly on WiFi mind you. As it sits there forever the phone just gets hotter and hotter as it tries in vain to refresh. Oddly enough I have no issue getting to the Facebook web site. It is only the app itself that seems to be blocked or extremely throttled. Is there some sort of proxy Sprint is trying to send FB data through? I'm trying to figure out what the issue here is as it is very frustrating! Tried nuking the app data and setting up from scratch to no avail.

the only thing i can think of is that facebook, instagram, and the other problem apps all can not be uninstalled meaning they are in the system apps area.
if someone with root access could move the apps over or delete and reinstall the apps in to the regular app area and check if it gets better.

You might be on to something. The built in "stubs" for these particular apps shouldn't have any affect on downloaded updates but maybe, just maybe, they are somehow? Mine isn't rooted but god I hope someone out there is willing to try removing them!

Changing my post now. Facebook and instagram are being a pos after reboot. Same issues as described above. With stub removed and newest updates for both. I think its a radio issue. Nothing really loads on data.

Unfortunately, I am having the same issues on the Sprint Network. I'm currently on my 2nd S6 since last Friday. Both phones are having the same issue...extremely slow on the sprint network... works great on wifi only. When not on wifi, I can't open facebook (just hangs) or linkedin (force shuts down everytime) and in general, my spark wheel is constantly spinning and zero to 1 bar at LTE. I never had this kind of problem with my S3. Best Buy looked at it, Samsung rep looked at it (couldn't connect to it via usb because it wasn't showing a buyers code?) and I've talked to Sprint twice. Everyone tells me there's no known issue with the phone. Sprint is telling me to take the phone back again.
I only have 6 days before my 14 days are up. For the first time ever, I'm thinking iPhone 6, which sucks because I've always been on Android and love the camera on this phone. How long could it take for this to get figured out? What to do....

I don't think it a radio issue. I can get 20mb down on speed test but facebook wont work then immediately swap to WiFi and it loads fast plus the other apps work OK while on cell data.
Also, I have seen threads in att about this same issue

I actually had already tried that before I made my first post in this thread. Have had my MSL since the day I got it thankfully. And no, your cell network settings have nothing to do with Knox and will never trip it.

hmm, i set my phone to use CDMA only and it appears that facebook/instagram loads faster versus LTE

Possible Solution with LTE
I think I found a temp solution for this issue that works. You will need to disable the LTE Band 41. You will need you MSL from Sprint to do this.
Make sure you have the LTE access on in the mobile networks settings
dial ##data#
click on EDIT
enter MSL
find LTE section
find Band41 Enabled
click to disable - green checkbox goes away
restart phone
enjoy
I am still getting 20mb down (i also live next to a tower) at -65dBm
my method after i got the MSL was to turn off b26 and 41. restart phone. still the same issue. turn on b26, restart phone, wooh! it works. turned on b41, restart, damn. turn back of b41, restart and back in business. i did a few restarts already and seems to be holding.

Anyone have a real fix? Band 41 being enabled/disabled has zero effect on it.

sprint has a thread concerning the same issues with HTC M9

[Q] T-Mobile was in my phone and I caught them!!!!

This is going to be a long one so bare with me...
So I was using my phone tonight surfing web sites that I frequent, checking facebook, watching YouTube videos, streaming audio and the like. While watching a flash video stream from a link that was posted to a friends FB page I get a text. Didn't check the text immediately as I would normally do deciding to finish the video stream instead. When the stream was done hitting the back button did nothing as if my phone froze up so I pushed the home button to get back and then check to see who was texting me. Low and behold it's a text from T-Mobile stating "to prevent future Smartphone Mobile HotSpot (Tethering) access bla bla bla" crap. The thing is I was NOT tethering when I received this text. I very rarely tether if at all.
For what ever reason I decided to look at my data usage to see how much data I've used so far this month ~5.6GB. I thought to myself seems slightly above average for me at this point in my billing cycle, so I started to scroll down to see what was using my data. To my surprise I see apps in the list that I know for a fact are NOT on my device. So I started to take screen shots as proof (screen shots below).
While in the process of all this activity, from the time of ending my video stream to taking screen shots, my phone is being very sluggish, something its hasn't done since I got the phone??? Anyways as I'm trying to take the last screen shots my phone flickered and put me back to the top of the data usage page, again something my phone has never done.
So I start back down the list again to finish taking screen shots and notice the apps that I know are NOT on my phone are now NOT in the list of app that used data, everything thing else that's normally there was still there??? (screen shots below).
I have since turned off my mobile data until there's a way to keep "them" out of my phone (I don't know if this is the avenue "they" took to enter into my phone but it makes me feel better).
Maybe I'm being paranoid, I know I'm a little freaked out by this, look at the screen shots and determine that for yourself.
The first 9 pics are from before the flickering, the last 6 pics are after the flickering.
My question goes out to our developers here, is there anyway that this invasion/intrusion into our privacy and our device be stopped? If at all?

Honestly, I'm suspecting malware or something otherwise gone wrong way more than T-Mobile personally being in your phone or something.
Looks like Carrier IQ. Nothing new. The numbers you see listed are likely the ports it is communicating over.
If you ever see it happen again, tap on one of the 'unknown' apps and see what it tells you.
Remove the following apks from /system/app and I bet you will never see that again.
IQ-tmobile-release-unsigned.signed_TMO.apk
IQ_OOB_TMO.apk
IQToggle.signed_TMO.apk
/system/lib/libiq_service_tmobile_2.2.so
I suggest you take a look at TrevE's CarrierIQ Thread and his Logging Test App
Anyway, I wouldn't worry so much about it to no longer use my data service. They have been doing this all along and at this point most likely have long since got most of the info they wanted from your device. Chances are, their systems detected heavier than usual usage and automatically triggered the system to send its current reports and logs back to Tmobile. Doubt there was an actual person on the other side 'hacking' into your phone!
This type of stuff has been going on for quite a while now. The first step you need to take is removing CarrierIQ from your phone! This should ALWAYS be one of the very FIRST things you do when you flash or update your system! Next is to check out TrevE's offerings and knowledge I linked to above.
And remember, even without CarrierIQ, everything you do over your data connection gets sent straight through Tmobile's systems first. Whether or not they are actually capturing anything, I dont know. But they do have the ability if they so choose, or are requested to by law enforcement.....
Not trying to make you overly paranoid, but just the right amount can be a healthy thing!
Hope that helps clear things up a little for you.
The second data report is 11/20-11/27.... the first is 11/14-11/27.........
Did you download the Avengers movie?

Thanks doc for your response. Those files you've mentioned were removed immediately after flashing this rom on its release day JLA.
This is why I got freaked out I know for a fact they are not there.
I will check out trev's threads when I got home.
Thanks again...
Interesting...just for sh!ts and giggles, I wonder what a rep on the higher tiers would say if you called them up

I had a feeling this would come up. I use LP as a means to block the ads in some games like WWF and WF that adfree or adaway don't. If I knew more about linux I wouldn't need an app to do that for me.

I hope the camera did not catch you with your shorts around your ankles. The reverse camera Tmo hid in the code will haunt you.
I'm sorry, wasn't going to reply, but had to show my appreciation for the above reply. Epic my friend.
On another note, have you seen the extreme throttling that goes on after you exhaust your data allotment? (I'm on Monthly 4G, Unl/5GB) Screeny below... the last 2 test or before I hit 5GB, the lowest test in the middle is when throttling began and the top results are after I called and b!tched them out.

carrier IQ.....
also, getting caught for tethering can happen as long as there is a record of your data usage on their end, and all somebody needs to do is take a peek at it.
also, don't use wireless tether apps.

Ty, I've been hunting for a solution for some time now, and I didn't think of something like that.... It is true, when I disabled AdBlock Plus, I didn't see the error again.
Guess I either need a replacement for Adblock Plus, or something in it's settings to change?? hmmmm.
Again though, thanks again!!!!
:good::good::good::good::good::laugh:
wow thanks for this. It's been driving me insane. I removed Adblock Plus and it worked. So I installed AdAway and rebooted. Seems to still work fine also. So try that ad blocking app out. So far so good.
Solved ! ( apparently not related to AdBlockPlus)
To make a long story short, I don't have AdBlockPlus but i DO have DroidWall installed.
just forgot I had to allow "MediaServer" to access the internet (as well as YouTube of course) - problem solved.
This has been happening to me. I fixed it by going to manage apps. YouTube, Delete cache, delete data, uninstall updates and I clicked the turn off button. Ran cleanmaster app and removed junk files. Then I rebooted and turned youtube back on and now videos will play. I'm on the Galaxy S4 stock.
Hopefully this helps someone
By the way Facebook wouldn't play any videos it would say "can't play video" and now Facebook is playing the same videos that it couldn't before.

No AdBlock, Firewall, root or custom ROM
I have stock device 4.3 android (not Samsung btw.). As i said, no adblock/firewall/custom rom etc.
When I updated YouTube app, I got that connection problem.
I've tryed reinstalling, changing DNS1 and 2, clearing data... Nothing helped...

It's happening to me now too. But since mine's installed as a User App and not a System App, I can't just uninstall the updates, although I did try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling. No joy.
I've tried a dozen different things. You should know that lots of people post lots of "solutions", but for 95% of the users, none of them work.
I'm hurting especially bad, because it happens to me on both types of connections (4G & WiFi). I even tried a 3rd party YouTube app and that wouldn't work either.
All this since today's (or last night's?) v10.25.57 YouTube update!
I am running a Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy (SGH-M819N) Mega
KitKat 4.4.4 (Stock), Rooted
Thank You.

Hi,
I tried disabling AdAway and reverting back to the original Hosts file, but no joy.
This time, it's affecting both my 4G & WiFi connections. When this happened before, I could at least watch it on 4G.
The weird thing is, that if I'm not signed in, I can watch videos. But once I sign in, EVEN WHEN USING A 3RD PARTY YOUTUBE APP, I have the problem!
Yes, eventually a YouTube update will come through that will fix it (could be 6 months or so), but I'm thinking that something "underneath" it all got updated/changed at the same time, because otherwise;
Why would it affect me only when I sign in?
And if it was limited to only the YouTube app being updated and there isn't anything else being changed at the same time in the background where you don't see it, then how could 3rd party YouTube apps be affected when you sign in to them with your Google (Gmail) account?
See what I mean? Something else, "under the hood" simply must be going on, amen?
TTYL

Is there some kind of internet filter turned on our devices...?

Because it sure seems like it... I can get on most major websites (XDA, Google, youtube, Facebook, etc) just fine on my phone, but when I go to (nsfw alert!) xvideos.com and load a video there, or even on serebii.net it turns up as http error 504. However if I use wi-fi I can view these sites just fine.
Did T-mobile end up shafting us with this filter, or is this something I can correct? I've tried disabling everything related to knox (all six of the apps that appear when you search Titanium Backup for knox) and restarting, no dice.
EDIT: I've just tried wi-fi tethering with my note 3, and going to serebii.net still gives a error 504 timeout.
EDIT #2. Oh yeah, forgot to mention this is a stock firmware with root, knox warranty 0x1, with TWRP recovery installed. justin case there is or isn't an update released since Oct. 2nd to now, my baseband version is N900TUVUBMI7
Serebii probably isn't working cause even on wifi and 4G lte, it won't load. X videos works fine either way for me.

If you have AdAway or some other ad blocking system on your phone, I've seen some sites blocked when they are prefaced with an ad site, but other than that I've not seen any blocking.
I have the same concern I cannot seem to load any flash videos from no sites ?? Did you find a fix

Flash? What browser are you using. Flash is not supported by most now and you have to add flash to those that support it.
I meant to say the player the browser uses not sure if its flash but it just wont play any internet videos at all like before

Ahhh, big screen bieng used for noble purposes!
Theres no filter... I would delete Ad Away if you have it and install AdFree, then give it a go. It can also be due to all those sights bieng chock full of advertisements the TMO signal in your area just isnt good enough. Its going to try to load more then the other sights, and thats where 504 timeout errors can occur if page does not load in time properly.
run a traceroute on the phone on and off wifi to sites with the issue and see where it falters. You can also check ping, but check routing first. Use the apps on playstore with same name its TraceRoute & TracePing.
Okay. I'll be sure to give it a go tomorrow, for I have to work soon.. and yeah nowadays serebii.net is working again. Also my ad blocker is simply called AdBlock.

Didn't work for me. AdAway does though. Has trouble sometimes updating but eventually gets it. Don't need to update often.
Any idea what is the cause of this ? How do I get ad away ? I just dont understand why all of a suddent it stopped being able to play online videos .

All I know is, its working just dandy on jedi rom & I havent had any issues with it. It replaced AdAway which Im sure theres a good reason for... west have you done the ping and trace tests yet? 504 is generally a time out issue so, give it a shot on wifi & also on tmos network. and how many bars do you have in area your trying it in?
No I have not tried those yet but I can assure that when I do try to load any sort of video on the stock browser or chrome or any browser I download I get the error timeout which is unusual . I'm on stock non rooted so don't know what the issue is I will run those test . By the way are you all having the prevention information notification, for some reason I believe it's that what is triggering the whole filtering

[Q] Problems with Google Music on M8 and Wifi

For some reason I can't get Google Music to actually download anything to my phone. I'm trying to do an offline playlist for when I'm travelling and don't want to use 4g. This has worked on multiple devices I've had in the past, so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. What's odd is, it won't stream music either unless I allow it to use 4G. I've reset my router and modem, restarted the phone, cleared the app data and cache and signed in again. Nothing I seem to do works and I'm getting irritated. These are songs I uploaded to and/or purchased from Google Music. Also, I do have data connectivity to everything else I can think of, work email, gmail, facebook and the internet as a whole are all working on the phone. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!
Continuing my research, I found a review in the play store of someone with an HTC One (doesn't say if it's M7 or M8) that has the same problem. No reply to it though.

I have this EXACT same issue. I can mark my playlists or radio stations for offline download, but if the checkbox for 'download on wifi only' is ticked, it never downloads.
The same thing happens with google photos and auto upload. If I have it set to upload on wifi only, it never happens. So the problem is very similar, but only with this device. My nexus 5, and Nexus 7 don't have this issue. So it's likely software, but I just can't figure out what it would be. I really don't want to do a factory reset and have to set everything up again. Maybe there's some HTC software messing it up?
Summary of issue:
ONLY happens in google music and google photos
only happens when set to 'download(or upload) on wifi only'
Only happens on the htc one m8
Issue does not occur on nexus 5, or nexus 7.
Thank goodness it's not just me, I just realized it's happening for me on google photos auto backup as well yesterday. I concur it's got to be something software based but I'm not sure what it could be, the photo backups did work for me without issue for a while, I ended up turning it off for a couple days for some reason I can't recall, and never noticed after turning it back on that it wasn't actually uploading.

Mine worked well when I first set everything up, but that was because it defaulted to uploading over mobile networks. I usually set it to upload on wifi only when charging, and google music downloads over wifi only. Ever since I set them to wifi, they don't sync properly. If I switch them back to use the mobile network, everything works fine. I'm so annoyed with this. I tried running a logcat and it didn't seem to offer too much info that I could notice. I switched back to the dalvik runtime from art with no change. The next step is a factory reset, but I'm not sure that's going to help me.
I'm pretty sure I had mine on wifi only as well, but I could be wrong. I'm not going to have time to mess around with it anymore until later tonight (US Eastern Time Zone), have you tried calling support at all? I haven't yet, but may give it a go. If not, I'll let you know when I'm going to try a factory reset and whichever of us can first should post if it resolved the issue or not hehe.
Oh, one thing I just thought of, are you using Lookout Mobile Security?

I'm fairly certain support isn't going to be useful. They're going to suggest a handful of unrelated things to try, then they're going to have you do a factory reset. I'm NOT using lookout security. That was the first thing I disabled. I don't need that crap on my phone lol. I could technically do a factory reset now, I just don't want to spend my free time at work today reinstalling and setting up all my apps and settings.
Yeah, I don't really think support would be useful either. I thought about tweeting at @HTC or @HTCUSA about it, but they'd probably do the same thing as support. I do have Lookout turned on, figured it was worth a thought if you did as well. I would take the time to do the factory reset today while at work but am prepping for a major DR test so I'm just flat out not going to have the time, plus I don't want to mess up my exchange account etc lol
Do you have any corporate applications on? We use Airwatch for MDM at my office, and even though it's not *supposed* to have any impact on personal devices other than requiring a PIN lock, I'm wondering if something else is causing me connectivity issues of some sort.

Factory reset didn't fix it. Ugh. This is a deal breaker for me! I've only had the phone for 3 days, but I don't want to return it...
I contacted HTC to see what they can offer as far as extra help...I'll keep you posted.
Thanks, I called the T-Mobile store I got mine from to see if they'd heard of anyone having this issue, they hadn't and want me to stop in so they can take a look. I've been using Android since the G1 and also have had my usual crew of fellow Android geeks here at the office take a look and everyone came back to factory reset. I don't really feel like going to the store to have them suggest that as well and find out, like you, that it doesn't work. I'll let you know if I find anything else out also. Thanks man!

Well I'll clear that up by saying a factory reset isn't going to fix it. It's a software issue.
Exactly what I said, I'm tempted to root and try another ROM as I've had mine for over a month now. I'm wondering if you're up for it if you'd try another M8 to see if it happens there too? I've been trying to figure this out since June 1st and haven't really found anyone else dealing with the issue, kinda wonder if it's a glitch with the Wifi as I'd think if it was a pure software issue it would be more prevalent. :-\

I highly doubt it's an issue with wifi because it works fine. I could surf the internet all day and it would just work. Yet, auto upload, and downloading songs in play music doesn't work. Super annoying. I'll probably give it a try tonight/tomorrow and see how it goes though.
I just figure since you just got yours they may give you less of a hard time about exchanging. I'll go fight with them either way, but I have to probably wait another week as i'm on call starting Friday for a week and can't go without my phone at all :-\

I'll swing by there when I get a chance. If I can get a replacement, I'll take it. But I really don't think the device is the issue. Something is amiss here.

Please test RCB 2 for me

Hi guys. Could someone please test my app root call blocker 2 on the trltetmo?
Ive had reports of issues, cant check as im in europe. On our side of the pond everything up to and including BOB7 works fine.
Any ROM will do. Ideally would like a test on lollipop too if anyone has it installed.
You can use this link or go to the main thread in my signature:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Thanks in advance!
I have had issues where RCB has broken my wifi calling. I will give this a shot and see how it works. This is bar none the best call blocking app I've ever used and have tried almost everything on the market. While unrelated, I wanted to be sure to drop props your way.
---------- Post added at 07:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:03 AM ----------
Side note, I have RCB Pro installed and it says there is a version conflict. I am fine with helping out, but will there be reduced functionality?

Stock deodex has issues right away. Did everything from clearing caches to trying to wipe data from app and still same thing. Enabled debug log but froze my phone. Upon reading other review the guy was right it shuts off the radio on off just by watching the phone. Funny thing is what ever it changes now I have the issue even when app is uninstalled. Will report back what fix is for that.
Random signal/data drop on KK TW Rom with stock kernel.

Could you elaborate please? Does random mean once at first run/every boot, or is it literally random as in it happens all day? Also did you make any test any calls?

Also seeking some elaboration here - what are "issues right away" please? What actually happens? Have you waited until you get the RCB service started notification?
Its supposed to restart the radio at first run and at every subsequent boot. Also it is not possible to uninstall it without rebooting - to remove the daemon, a reboot is necessary.
