ONECLICK tool: SIM-unlock, Network manual selection, HotSpot & Bluetooth modem unlock
Hello guys!
I have a nice news for any people, who using LS980
Several days i was in meditation about using Sprint LS980 in GSM network with native Android features, like Wi-Fi and bluetooth Internet sharing, and ability to chosing preferred GSM network by hand.
So, i did some research and made small tool, which will help you to get things, we have told about in simple steps
Requirement:
You should be on clean ZVG
You should be rooted
You should enable USB debugging
Lets make a freedom!
1. Plug you smartphone to PC
2. Install latest USB drivers
3. Be sure that
Code:
adb devices
command will return you device id
4. Download simfree.7z and unpack it. exe-file absolutely free from any viruses - i made it via BAT2EXE converter
5. Install Insecure adbd http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590 and enable insecure adbd daemon
6. Run simfree.exe and allow root-right for adbd on your smartphone screen
7. Your phone will reboot
Enjoy!

PS: i've done features available for me and made dump from my phone and share it for people.
Credits:
Me for idea, for over 100 hours thinking and testing
@Chainfire for insecure adbd and supersu app's
 @jcase for root-exploit
And all people who was investigated in LS980 hacking development.
Donations are welcomed and accepted in paypal: [email protected]

It works, and contains numerous apn settings to I got data right away.
Unfortunately, it doesn't disable hands free activation, that step must be done manually.
Thanks!

does it let you change apn settings so you can add in new apns?

Awesome!!

You mean ##3282# (##DATA#), yes?

simfreefree
Before running the SIMFREE.EXE you should backup:
- /system/etc/apns-conf.xml -- (stock LS980 ZVG here)
- /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
- /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/carrier (/dev/block/mmcblk0p27) -- (stock LS980 ZVG here)
That is if you want to be able to easily undo the changes.
---
If you are wary of MS-DOS batch files wrapped in EXE files performing mysterious actions and want to handle this yourself:
Install these files:
- apns-conf.xml
- carrier.img
Remove this file:
- /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
---
I wonder if the carrier.img packaged with simfree.exe is copy of the carrier partition of a GSM ZVG G2? For some reason the props patch inside of it has the Sprint props file from the stock carrier.img converted to filenames in their own directory. What is *that* about? Odd.
I'm a bit peeved that someone tosses up an EXE without providing any breakdown of what it actually *does*. At close examination it looks innocuous though, but you do never know.

Worked Great!! Cheers!

Does it require root? Could you provide a brief summary on how you did that? Renaming Apps caused a lot or fc`s.

I don't think so, 'cause i don't have LG Flex

Perfect tool, works flawless and can see the much needed tethering options can you shed some light as to how to enable the data roaming onto the stock ZVG ROM as the option is missing...

Unlocked a LS980 Bad ESN with this method, doesn't seems to work. Don't know is Bad ESN device block from all carriers in US or Just for Sprint?
After unlocked, put a T-mobile sim in, but no signal bar.

Yataaaa!!!! It Worked, It Worked
wowowow LG G2 LS980 32GB Sprint, after several nights digging and digging on how to unlock on lollipop update, finally u saved my ass. But network bar keeps dropping, it's on and off but at least calls work, and it's not affected.
Those looking for how to configure APN, Just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.appando.app.changeApn. to get APN settings for data. this will unveil your hidden apn and allow you to configure data settings.
However i can't change Network Type eg. 2G/3G anytime i try to do that via the radio switcher app, it says 'This Application Does Not Work ON This Device. Please does anyone knows how to fix this?

Looking for any information anyone may have for rooting this device.

**BUMP** on this. This is an inexpensive decent Android phone. The camera is the only drawback but everything else is fairly decent. I am going to start looking into this, because being able to root and mod a cheap phone to have as a ready back up is essential.

Can anyone tell me where to find stock rom for avail 2 and how to flash it...
I rooted the phone but changing font made phone un-bootable...
I was wondering how to recover it ... I can access FTE mode and stock recovery but no ADB....
So far i had no luck finding stock firmware or any means on how to flash the phone
Bought this great little phone as backup to my attic which I will never part with. Have found that it is wonderful for the price. I don't use camera on any phone so that's never an issue. This phone is a quiet little secret. But impaired as more are sold its secrets will be released.

How by using Cydia Impactor helped you root the Z992? I have it as well, but have no idea how to root from start to finish in DOS(?) Then, after that, Is there a basic custom ROM that is easily attainable for use with detailed instructions?
I am fairly new to all this but been trying for about 2 years. I just never knew how to add a custom ROM or have a reliable RECOVERY after rooting, I am still unsure why I try to begin with, I guess to have a cooler phone, but its complicated, I read the threads, and there are so many terms not being throughly put to instruction decriptions. Bare with me, I am very articulate....
Can someone help me understand, even with some links to basic knowledge and full detail on what rooting, roming, and recoverying or maybe even unlocking a phone - Z992 to be in particular at the moment. thanks - helping words help others learn. Peace til next time..
Anyone know of any other rom besides the z993 for this budget phone?

THIS IS FOR WINDOWS AS I ONLY USE WINDOWS.
Cydia impactor works like a charm I have had success in rooting my z992, my fiance's z992 and my alps momo 9 3G tablet (Chinese tablet). Details on how to root using Cudi's impactor:
Download cydia impactor (just google it)
Enable USB debugging and connect to PC as media device
Plug in phone now on and unlocked
Open cydia impactor (it should say "# Drop SU.... ")
Press start or go
Wait for it to go back to where it says "# Drop SU...."
Unplug your phone (no longer need pc)
Then download superuser
Open app and scroll left to right and update su binary by clicking where it says SUPERSU 1.6.1... THEN CLICK update
Download busybox by stericson
Open busybox click install at bottom left
After completion manage apps in your phones settings menu and delete busybox. You now have root access! Enjoy.
Information on rooting, unlocking, roming, and recovering... :
Rooting will give you access to system files and functions that basic users cannot access. Like deleting apps that came preinstalled with the phone and take up a bunch of space.
Unlocking: allows you to use a different carriers service on your phone for example using straight talk in att or T-Mobile phones using their byop program sum card service.
Roming: means you can install a different Android based operating system on your phone. For example Android 2.3.4 of a att Samsung galaxy s2 on your phone instead of Android 4.1.1 or Android 4.1.2 on att avail 2.
Recovery means you have access to install any type of zip file to your phone through clockworkmod, twrp, or cynagen mod recovery to make system changes on your phone.
Did I answer all of your questions or do you need more understanding of the terms? Glad to help you!!!

There is not another rom that works on this phone because ZTE put a block on the system CPU and I recommend not trying to find another rom as you will most likely end up not having a working phone
i did all of this with no errors and everything on my phone is still normal. all i really need is the network unlock code but im sure of how to get it without waiting on at&t for 3-5 days. god i hope im in the right thread.

there is only one way of unlocking this device and unfortunately that is to call att or use the device unlock portal on their website...neither of them helped me because we are required to wait for 6 months after purchasing this device...and for this phone the manufacturer and att have a strict agreement not to allow an unlock of this phone weather you call att or use the website it will give you the same error: "The information provided does not match the information on the account." if you do manage to get it unlocked please make another post as i need mine unlocked also. i have 2 of these that need to be unlocked. Hi, I am using this phone until I get my Blu Dash 4.5 back from repair. It is still locked to at&t and I am using it on Straight Talk with all updated apn settings. Does anyone know if there is a way to tether the data to other phones and/or computers? This would be really helpful. I am fully rooted but i do not have a custom recovery installed as it will not allow me to view/edit my files on my pc via data cable and that is something I need. Also if someone has a custom recovery (i.e.: cwm, twrp, cm...) that works flawlessly with this phone (at least allow me to connect to pc) or knows where i can get one it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I got it to work with "WiFi Tether For Root Users"
Its free on the play store
by Müller, Lemons, Buxton Corporation
In WiFi Settings
Set "Change Device-Profile" to Gerneric ICS/JB(wlan0)
Set "Change Setup-Method" to Netd-Ndc(master)
Scroll down to LAN Settings
Enable MSS clamping
and
Enable Routing fix
That will enable tethering to work.

[ROOT] Root your G2 [ATT|VZW|TMO|KT|RGS|BELL|TELUS|OPEN] [Yay!]

Howdy everyone!
Here's another neat root!
What is this?
This is a very simply and easy to use root package for the LG G2.
For now I'm calling it IORoot, despite the fact that it's not really all that deserving of a name.
Which phones does this support?
Currently the following phones are supported by this root package:
AT&T G2 (D800) - D80010d
Verizon G2 (VS980) - VS98010B (Shipping ROM)
Verizon G2 (VS980) - VS98011A (OTA)
T-Mobile G2 (Shipping ROM)
KT F320k (Shipping ROM)
Rogers D803 (Shipping ROM)
Bell D803 (Shipping ROM)
Telus D803 (Shipping ROM)
OPEN D802 (Shipping ROM)
How do I use this?
Here's a video!
Or, in List Form:
Ensure you have the proper USB drivers installed, and your phone is in the proper mode (For Verizon, use Ethernet mode on the PC settings menu)
Enable Developer Mode on your phone and enable USB Debugging
Extract this zip file somewhere on your PC
Run root.bat
The phone will ask you to disconnect USB, disable USB debugging, then re-enable it and plug the phone back in, do so when prompted
You will then be asked if you would like to have a superuser package installed, which you can accept or decline
Why is it asking if I want to 'trip rootchecker'?
LG's phones come with some software loaded that detects the presence of root on a phone, and invalidates your warranty.
Rooting the phone, by nature, voids your warranty. You can put your phone in a special mode where ADB shell has root permissions, however your phone is not technically 'rooted' by app standards.
You will not be able to use 'root required' apps on your phone if you do not let the root script install Superuser.
Okay, where do I get this?

This is confirmed to work for the ATT and Verizon variants, I'll add support for T-Mobile as soon as I get someone in #lg-g2 in Freenode who owns one.
Simple:
Ensure you have ADB drivers installed and USB Debugging enabled
Extract this .zip file somewhere
Run the root.bat file, and read the instructions
During the installation, you'll have to disable USB Debugging and re-enable it, then the app will ask you if you care about rootcheckerd (rctd).
If you don't want your phone to show "rooted" in download mode, or in settings, hit CTRL-C when prompted and you'll just have a root shell through ADB.
Personally, this is enough for me, but if you want full root, press continue and it'll install superuser and a superuser binary for you.
PLEASE do not mirror this! It makes my life easy if I can just edit the file on my server if need be instead of contacting all the mirrors.

First!!! Thanks IO and all the devs responsible :highfive:
Can you explain the difference between root shell (leaving it to say unrooted) and "full" root? Will this affect once we get a way to unlock the bootloader or get a recovery for roms? And is there a way to unroot? Thanks for this!!

Root shell allows you to have root only through ADB. Apps on the phone will not be able to use the root functions of the device if you don't let my script install superuser.

How can I unroot so that I can use this?

Howdy everyone!
Here's another neat root!
http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lg_g2/root/ioroot2.zip

The other thread contained a link to a root that could possibly compromise your phone's security (and your desktop too, since there's all sorts of other stuff in those exe files).
If someone pops into the #lg-g2 chan with a TMO phone I'll gladly support TMO as well!
If you did happen to use the old root, I'd recommend restoring your phone back to stock with the TOT / KDZ files before applying this root.

You need to have the android sdk installed on your computer. I find it easier to use a distro of linux but windows is fine too. Find android sdk install and make sure adb is in the /platform-tools folder. Then run this adb devices cmd with your phone attached via usb and if it works you should have an rsa security pop up on your phone you have to allow. Then your phone is connected via adb.

how does one "pop into the #lg-g2 chan" ? i have a tmo g2 and i'm no dev or hacker but i'm clever and have been rooting and customizing since 4.0.
all i really want at this point is the ability to remove the bloatware and then possibly unroot

You will need to go back to stock, and then reroot with this rooter.

Wi-Fi Hotspot/ Tethering For Sprint Non-Activated LG G2 LS980 ZV7/ZV8/ZVA

here is the the Way Enable / Visible the Tethering Option in LG G2 Sprint Non-Activated Device...
Mandatory Steps
1). Root Required
2). Root Explorer or Rom Tool Lite installed (with root Permissions)
Before Proceeding Please Unlock your phone with the Thread given below...

After that
Just Download the rar file named 'Carrier'.
Unzip / unrar it to Your Notebook/System. You wil get a Folder named Carrier.
Copy it(Carrier Folder) with the Original 'Carrier' Folder that Present in the Device. if asks for Overwrite, Please Proceed with Pleasure.
& Here you can see the Option Enabled, without booting the phone... if not seen then Please Reboot, so as to Function Properly.
Pros: It works on LG G2 LS980 ZV7/ZV8/ZVA, &
Cons:Nothing...
"No Hope that all Works, but for SURE that ALL Works"
Sprint LS980 G2 phone does not have wifi hotspot out of the box.
its somehow enabled when the phone is activated in Sprint network.
Now i know this because in India i have a G2 by Sprint. its a not activated ever
on any network.
To enable the MOD jus extract the folder from the OP and use root explorer
to replace the stock carrier folder with the extracted one.
Your Wi-Fi Hotspot should be under Settings/More.
This mod also enables Bluetooth and USB tethering.
Very Important:
You have to replace the folder and not just its content, just replace the folder by copying from the download and pasting on top of the stock, when prompted to overwrite the folder, select yes.
RoM Toollite Box root explorer does not work, for some reason it makes a copy of the carrier folder in root instead of replacing it. use only Root Explorer
It works?

Hi, doesn't work for me out of the box. ZV8
Do we need to set permissions for the new folders/files?
I tried rw-r-r for the files, but still no thetering options.

Kinda confused as to what this does.
I already have the Wifi Hotspot 'unlock' that was posted here a while ago for the ZV8/ZVA.
But I am soon to be unlocking for either MetroPCS of T-Mobile, would this work for that, or am I way off base?
\What exactly does this do?
This is for NON ACTIVATED SPRINT G2, brand new G2 won't have tethering in it. Only Sprint Activated phones have Wi-Fi Hotspot enabled in them. I'm from India, bought G2 Sprint LS980 brandnew which had never been activated on Sprint network. Did not have Wi-Fi Hotspot in the menu. This MOD enabled it.

HOW TO
Extract the folder from the download and replace the stock carrier folder with the one you have extracted, use only Root Explorer

The activation also configures Chameleon for the brand/carrier you're activating this under. By doing it this way Sprint was able to reduce the number of builds they were doing for MVNOs and just having customization made under this feature. One of the big things this sets are animations screens.

Yes sir, Did not want to get into Chameleon thing, to be frank we just compared files of Sprint Activated phone which had working Wi-Fi tethering, fiddled around and got this working. Till date nobody has been able to do that with SPRINT galaxy S4 SPH-L720, I have asked many to help here. Nobody could figure it out till date. With the G2 we, in fact it was only [email protected] who did it with his R&D, I only tested it. All credit goes to him.

So, has anyone tried this on the ls980? If so, does it work better than the hotspot mod we had?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk
This is not something that improves already working hotspot. Brand-new G2 by Sprint does not have Wi-Fi Hotspot. This MOD is for those phones which a are activated or flashed to a different carrier out of the box. The Wi-Fi Hotspot is enabled only if the phone is activated on Sprint network. So this MOD is for those who do not I
Have Wi-Fi Hotspot enabled in their phones.

Hi, i am on stock ZVC in india using GSM. non-activated sprint device which is not having hotspot option. Replaced the carrier folder with the one in your post using root explorer. hotspot option did not come up in settings/more or anywhere else in settings. any idea what else needs to be done?
Well when you extract the carrier folder, it goes like this carrier/carrier/files you have to replace the second carrier folder, not the whole folder.

Hey, I actually just discovered this yesterday after months of wondering how to achieve this. I'm on cricket (subsidiary of AT&T) so i assume this should work. Unfortunately, I can't link you directly to where I got this information because I have no clue at this point But this is what I did. Download some app that can edit your build.prop. I use Root Essentials, which you can find on XDA Labs or the Play Store. At the end of your build.prop, add the line:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save, reboot and I think you should be good, because that's all I did.

Did not work for my, are you on android 6 or 7? because I have seen this method done on 6 but heard there were issues on 7 with this method
I'm on 7.1.1 the latest PixelROM. I remember reading about an additional step after the one I told you, but there were a few comments from people saying that what I told you was all they needed for tethering to work. And that's all I did as well. I'll edit this post to add in the additional step in a bit.

Okay so same ROM as me.
Are these the additional step?
Didn't work for me though, but I also can't tell if the adb commands executed properly, screenshot attached.
. Enable developer mode (Go to Settings -> About phone, and click on the build number until the developer mode is enabled).
2. Enable USB debugging under Settings -> Developer options
3. Connect the device with a USB cable to a computer with the Android SDK platform tools installed
4. Start an adb shell: adb shell
5. In the adb shell, run these commands one by one:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
settings put system tether_entitlement_check_state 0
reboot
I think those were it, I'm guessing it didn't work after you rebooted right?

yeah it did not, still getting the "To enable, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611" But I know I can't just enable it because I have a grandfathered unlimited plan and they won't let you
Yea even though I'm with cricket I got the exact same message. I changed to their unlimited everything plan a few months ago and was disappointed to find out that the plan made me lose tethering But like I said I just found this fix yesterday, no idea why it isn't working for you
I had a similar problem with a dutch provider. I solved this problem by adding ,dun at the apn type.
So APN type was default,dun.
I could not turn on hotspot tethering by the quick access tiles however by settings --> more --> tethering and hotspot --> wifi hotspot it works.
Disabling hotspot mode with the quick access works well.
Try it
Unlock carrier tether permanently, No root required on all ROM types.

No. The latest OTA update remove the ability to use a custom ROM to use it on a different network
Not try to use different networks want to stay on boost but when if flash from stock to a custom rom there's no data or signal i was hoping that dome one had a working custom rom on boost that could do a back up and send it to me to flash.

Having root does not bring up the APN settings menu. You have to actually find the file in the system and edit it manually.

I can bring up the ##3282# menu. You mean the lock code for Edit APN? It is a 6 digits number. I wonder if there is a limit on number of attempts? 6-digits is not a terribly large combination.
