[Q] Holy crap! Is this battery usage normal? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All I have running is Facebook in the background and chrome browsing XDA. My battery drops 1% every 3 minutes.
Is this normal for you guys too? I turned off sync to save battery but its still eating it up.
I really wish a root come out soon. My rooted HTC One last so much longer

What brightness? I got like 5 hours at 50% when I did Futuremarks Peacekeeper test, but that is pretty heavy test for browsing, so reading posts should result in better.

Did you just receive the phone? If so, it may take a day or two for the battery to become fully optimised.
I had this issue with my G3 - the first couple of days I had horrid battery life. But after a few days of use, I couldn't kill the battery.

Oh Really? I got the phone a day ago. I'll continue to test it and benchmark it again after a week and see if the battery will last better.
Btw does anyone know where i can buy spare batteries ?

Yeah, my G3 was getting atrocious battery life for about the first few days, then it got better a lot quicker. I can't say this is absolutely the case with the G4, but I'm guessing so.
If you live in the U.S., you can get free stuff from LG by simply showing them a picture of your IMEI# and receipt. Here's a link: http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/g4/battery Follow the steps accordingly.
I've supplied a link from the main LG website rather than the direct page where you fill out your information, just in case anyone is a bit suspicious since the address changes in the URL when you get to the step where you fill in your info.
If you do not live in the U.S., you'll have to wait to get reasonably priced spare batteries/backs. Once the market gets flooded with them, the prices will drop. It's pretty atrocious how eBay sellers are currently asking for $60-$70 for the leather back right now. This will not be the case in a matter of a month or two.

I filled out the free 128gb promo and the free battery with 32gb sd. Entered imei and screenshot of online receipt. Hope they take the screenshot as "proof of purchase". Anybody else know if the screenshot of receipt is good?

Exact same problem here. I turned off smart settings and my places location and it helped a lot. Still could be better but it's not falling like that anymore. I want to use those features though and shouldn't have to compromise new features to save battery on a $600 phone. I really hope root becomes available faster than I anticipate..
Oh I also uninstalled greenify til root too.

Not sure wither they really "secured large quantity" or "not alot of people ordered from them" but mehh...
So if you still did not order and you want to get your device from the first batch, go here
When I spoke to them earlier in the week, having consulted the sales director, they told me they had about 400 orders. At that time, they did not know for sure how many they would get in the first batch although they had ordered, if I remember right, about 4,000.

Wow 4000, thats a fortune, ... but it would not be a problem, it will sell like anything. The most important thing though, is that when people get their first Desires the devices should (and hopefully will) be flawless, and doesnt have any major bugs, or else it will effect the sales of the device forever.

I think others may beat me to it. Unfortunately, I still keep to the rule of charging a new battery for 12 to 14 hours before first use. I know many people say this is not necessary for these batteries but others say it still is - so better safe than sorry! Mind you, the cost of spare batteries seems extremely reasonable at Handtec.

You should be aware that over charging Lithium Polymer batteries, especially on the first charge, is very bad for them, as is completely flattening them. that's why, with modern devices, once they have died you cant get them to come back on by waiting a while and trying to power up again, it a protection feature!
I know this seems counter intuitive given 20 years of using NiCad batteries but none the less, it is true!
How did I let this thread get by me

OEM battery available through t-mobile tech support!?

i see that there's a thread for the oem charger kit, but not for the battery itself. so anyway, i just called tmo tech support and told them that i have been having very inconsistent battery life. say today i unplugged after reaching 100%, then 6-7hrs later after waking up-i only have 69% left. it's been happening every other day now, and i purposely exit all active apps and clear the ram before unplugging, but still the same problem.
anyway, tmo is sending me a new battery for the sgs2 for free because i am still under the 90 battery warranty period. i do have to pay $11.99 for ups express shipping though, $7.99 for usps. AND i get to keep the current battery as well, so not bad for $11.99 and a new battery.
also, i'm on 2.3.6, rooted with some bloats removed/freezed, stock rom, with juice defender running, email sync is only at 4hrs. anybody have any idea on why my phone is acting like this? i know i'm not the only one with the problem, but any tips or comments are welcome. TIA.
i've checked tmo's website, but couldn't find the battery for sale, so this is fyi only.
Tmo does this when you call about the battery for just about every phone they sell. They're pretty good about sending of replacements.

The battery works just fine. Not a single problem and it lasts just about the same as the OEM battery if not better (maybe I’m just a lucky one) I have absolutely no issue with it beside it being labeled aftermarket I alternate it daily with my OEM to help prolong both.
IMHO, everyone should have at least one spare/backup battery for his/her phone.
I called them several times and none of the reps was willing to give me a free battery.
I told them about bad/inconsistent battery life. They told me I needed to call from a separate phone so they check my battery or something on my phone. They also said there would be a $20 service fee even if im under my 90 warranty period...
They also told me to just go back to the store and get a replacement phone...but no car so that's a no go.
So what EXACTLY do you guys say to get the free battery?! or did they just change the rules on that.

If you're within the 14 day period they will make you exchange the device. If you call asking for a "free" anything they're gonna deny you.
#1 always say you're calling from a different phone, even if you're not.
#2 always be courteous, appear to be calm yet bothered.
#3 keep reiterating how "unacceptable" the battery life is.
#4 anything posted here like this thread is YMMV and may not always work for every call for every caller.

You won't get denied. It depends on the reason. If it's past the 14 days and it's a legitimate battery issue... you "kind of" get a free battery... Above post stating USPS and UPS is what you will be responsible for. The correct thing to do is they will have to at least on a minimum do a full reset. If it's still having the issue go back and they can more than likely just put the battery order through for you. Some reps may even do the battery as the first step. Depends on who you get.

You could get away with it. They may ask you to do a hard reset. I recommend taking the time and just visiting the store. Store reps are easier to deal with.

This can be read like a book. Being polite will get you further. Stay calm. It's not Care or the Reps fault you may have received a faulty battery. I'm sure most of "us" as in Smart Phone users know that battery life was never that great. The more you use it the faster it dies. You "know" what you got yourself into. Don't yell at them because the phone doesn't have the battery life of a Samsung T139.

This really gets annoying. See above. You know what you got yourself into. If you are legitimately having issues... yes. It is unacceptable... But just because you want a spare. You may be caught and denied. The reps are here to keep you as a customer and keep you satisfied. Don't try to be deceiving... it's counter productive.

It really depends on who you talk to and how knowledgeable they are. It's not some mathematical system that you keep repeating the word unacceptable and appear to be bothered that you get a battery.
So there is no right way. The best thing is just be honest. It's really if you need it or not and who you talk to.
After 14 days... if you are having issues, just go to the store. Bad battery? Just let the rep know. They should be able to figure it out. You'll be responsible for shipping.
Thanks for the protips.
I agree with chrischoi (weren't you on the amaze?)
The best way is to be friendly, every rep has to go through a protocol to troubleshoot the device, after checking off what needs to be done, they are then allowed to offer what can be done. But during all the wait, it doesn't hurt to be energetic and make small talk. Imagine this is their job and they have to deal with assholes all day, so it would be nice if you are nice to them. They are more than willing to send you replacement accessories, if you put them in a good mood.
1. You can say you spoke to a rep and they told you that accessories are under warranty, and you can just ask how does that work? "Do i send back my old battery etc"
2. Try to direct it more as a battery problem not a phone problem.
"i tested my phone with my sister/friends battery and hers definitely last longer, whereas my battery dies quickly in her phone."
3. Might as well request for a charger.
"could it be my charger, or cable? Do you think it might have fried the battery by being faulty? Am i able to replace that also?" "i heard having a bad charger will eventually kill the phone"

Release Date?

Does anyone know when this watch is going to be released? I read somewhere that it might get released at the end of September, but on here it's showing November 2014.

It depends if you mean the US or Europe. Based on this video taken by CNET France, it looks like it's set for early to mid December, but the video said nothing about differing prices overseas, so based on the fact that most watches are being globally released at the same time, it's safe to assume that the date in the video is for both regions.
Also, the video lists the complete specifications which were on display. (Link to specific time here).
Apparently it has a 369 mAh battery. Not the top of the line, but not nearly the lowest, either. considering it has an AMOLED display, the battery life will be severely determined by how much of the screen is covered with completely black pixels. A proper watch face theme to compliment this will greatly increase battery life, as AMOLED means that all black pixels are actually not being powered. The results in the dark are also quite stunningly delicious to look at, by the way. (I own a Moto X that has a AMOLED display. The max hours I've had it running with a set of 400+ apps installed (including system) was 41 hours.
This, of course, took a bit of tweaking with some root apps... but considering the smartwatches don't have much running on them and the feature set on them are dependent on what apps are installed on your phone, rooting will most likely never be necessary for them.
I was speaking in terms of North American release date. Being that I'm in Canada, I'll probably get screwed on the launch date here, usually happens that way.
I heard for release date was to try before Christmas. As they have said try may end up being 2015. Hope it soon this is the one watch I'm looking forward to

I have a Pebble currently, and it's really nice, love the 5-7 day battery life on it. But I want something a little classier, and for a little more than the Pebble Steel I can get this watch.
I think it's really stupid that Samsung and Apple released watches that only work with their phones. Completely cuts off a lot of potential users. Glad Asus didn't do that.

I purchased a water damaged Nexus 5x, took the time to tear it down, clean the board and connections. It's back to life! The problem is, as with most any water damaged phones, the battery is in need of replacement. Looking around my usual channels (ebay, google) I'm not able to find any. The exception at the moment is one listing in the US for an absurd $90, and another in Spain for a slightly reasonable $35, but with $15 shipping. Anybody around here know where a more affordable replacement can be procured?
If you haven't one yet then here you go. http://www.repairsuniverse.com/lg-nexus-5x-battery-replacement.html I use them and this alot. http://www.etradesupply.com/

I appreciate the link, but that battery is the BL-T9 for the Nexus 5 haha. I probably did come across those places during my intense googlin'. I'd be interested in knowing if the battery is interchangeable in some relatively easy way. But that, too, is hard information to come by.

In my opinion it is relatively easy in a sense that it's possible without too much effort. However it is not easy to the point where it's something that you're going to be able to do on the fly. I would plan on 5-10 minutes to change the battery. See the ifixit teardown of the Nexus 5X, you should be able to figure it out that way.

Search for'LG Nexus 5X Battery' at fixez.com (with a 'z' at the end) for $25.00
Also search for 'Nexus 5X Water Test 'on youtube first though.
What did you pay for your water damaged phone?

"Holy crap..." I uttered to myself as I looked it up, hahaha. U.S. based, reasonably priced, AND in stock! You are my hero :3 Thank you so much!
I haven't ordered from them, and there is no picture, so hopefully it works out for you.

I did a quick lookup. While they've got a few negative reviews on the BBB website, the people are complaining about poor customer service in the event of issues with the parts. So at least people are getting parts from them. Everything else seems legitimate enough. They accept paypal, so I'm confident enough to try. Thanks again, I looked and looked for hours and couldn't find anything in the US, let alone under $40 after shipping.
What did you pay for your water damaged phone? I had an opportunity to buy a previously submerged 5x for $120, but that seemed a lot for a potential paperweight.

I'm sorry, I just now saw you already asked that. I lucked out and got mine for $80. Complete gamble, but I had a good feeling about it. Wouldn't power up, but after cleaning off a few corrosion spots it fired up. Now behavior points to the battery needing replaced and I'll be good to go.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but fixez is bull**** for that battery right now. I saw your post and had to recover my password to reply to you but I am so annoyed by that company that I had to reply. So I watered my 5x a couple weeks ago and dried it out but it would not charge. So I figure it's the battery. Looked online, ebay has one from spain, one US guy has a used one for 60 bucks, fixez has them, and then some sites in the UK and Germany. I put an order in with fixez, and then a day later got my shipping confirmation yay!! on my way to getting back in business!! Then the next day I get a call and email saying that the item is backordered and should be in stock in a bout a week. I emailed back and told them that their site still has it shown as in stock and I asked them if they ever had the item in stock, and if they have ever actually shipped this item before. They ignored my questions and said we should have it in 7 days. 8 days later I emailed them and asked what is up and reminded them again that their website still lists it as in stock. They said they would let the tech guys know about the website error, but that the item should be available in a couple days.
Well I emailed them again with the same thing: that their site still has it shown as in stock and I asked them if they ever had the item in stock, and if they have ever actually shipped this item before. And I also asked for a "real" time estimate. I then got the same email and phone call that said that the item is back ordered and that they expect it in stock in about a week. So it went from "in stock", to "about 7 days", to a "couple days", back to "7 days" and the website still says it's in stock. So I ordered from rounded.com (total plus shipping came out to $35.24) and canceled my order with fixez, and now I wait to see if that works out. Rounded has emailed me to let me know that my order has been completed, but I was given no tracking number. If I had just ordered from rounded.com instead of fixez, I would already have my new battery by now. The refund from fixez came through right away.
Hope this helps.

The bubble was already popped for me, haha. When did this happen to you? The exact same thing happened with me. I made the order that day, got a tracking number within an hour, then yesterday got a call saying the exact thing. I missed the call, but the guy left a thorough message stating it was out of stock and they were expecting stock within seven days. Weird thing was I got an email a few minutes after the call from a different company quoting a different order number saying the exact same thing. When I returned the call at the number it came from, I got yet another different company name. I get that they could all be run by the same group of people, but it's far from confidence inspiring despite the good communication. I'll have to look into the site you mentioned.
And YES, the lack of battery on eBay is crazy. I'd have been better off ordering it from Spain, at least I'd have it by the weekend if I ordered when I very first saw it. The dude in the US that has the USED battery originally wanted $90 for it. I messaged him asking to make the price more reasonable for a pulled unit, and he did incremental drops over the next two hours to where it's sitting now. I told him about pricing other places have for it and offered 35 for it, and he said he couldn't go that low. Dickhead is trying to take advantage of the lack of availability. For his used ass battery... I ordered an extra unit from ifixez just to sell it for half his asking price just to spite him haha.
I put in my order with rounded.com yesterday and canceled my order with fixez today. I still don't think they ever had the battery in stock, or shipped one to a customer. I just don't understand why the would go through all the effort replying to me, calling me, misleading me, just to keep a $35 order active. Oh well. Hopefully rounded.com comes through. Good luck!!

Thanks, hopefully it's just an issue with supply. I honestly don't think they're trying to be misleading, I think it's just a bunch of young people that don't really know what's going on haha. I'll wait it out another week and see what happens. Keep me posted on your order from rounded, I found them in my initial search, but was holding out for a US-based merchant for impatience. Looks like the joke's on me haha.

Hey, that was me! I actually saw this thread when researching options for the replacement battery. I took the PCB from the original dead battery and it fit perfectly with the G2.
I have excellent battery life with the G2 battery so far, the only issue I have is my phone wont give out any battery percentage. But it lasts all day easily and I just charge it overnight so no issues at the moment.
I got the phone dead from Swappa so I'm also waiting to hear if that rounded.com battery works out.

Info regarding its battery performance and youtube flickering

I'm planning to buy Honor 7x (India). Heard good reviews about this phone, also on youtube channels. But the Amazon (India) reviews say otherwise. They state problem regarding fast battery drainage and youtube flickering and auto-restart after sometime. Please help!
Battery is pretty good. similar to my OnePlus 3T.
No issues found in my week of usage.

I'm in the same boat and currently using Zenfone 2 Laser. I'm currently getting 2-3 days of uptime with daily use of around 1 hour of whatsapp/facebook, listening to music for couple of hours, wifi/data on for 1-2 hours. Can I expect around the same from Honor 7x? I really like the phone and would've bought it if it had 4000mah battery, but confused now.

I Understand You Would Like Guaranteed Sure Fire Answer..
But what you ask, is impossible to judge.
No one knows what type of possible battery draining apps you have running in the background. Or for that matter,
Live Wallpapers..
Bright Wallpapers..
Your Enviroment... Hot ? Cold? etc...
The answer is Impossible for anyone to give but yourself. Can you get more than a day? YES :good:
Two to Three days ?
You have 15 days to return the device in the United States through Huawei.
You have 30 days to return the item through Amazon.
Give it a whirl.. and see what you think.

Just checked Amazon India return policy for mobiles and sadly you cannot return mobiles anymore. They'll only replace defective ones, that too within 10 days.
Thanks man! What you suggest makes sense, I just hope it doesn't breaks my heart to return the phone after reading great reviews about it's screen!
Battery life on this phone is the best I've ever had... Better than my Samsung Note 5, Note 3 and Galaxy S4 active. On days of light use, I take off the charger at 7:30 AM and when I leave work around 5 PM I am on 89%...days with moderate use, I'm at 70% at the end of the day. All of my other phones would be at 40%-50% from day one. This phone is unbelievably customizable. I have most apps set to sleep when screen is closed and some other items to save battery life. Also, I have a ASUS smartwatch with Android wear connected all day. Amazing battery life...
The only concern is texting is a bit wonky even with 3rd party applications. Scrolling through group texts is not smooth and tends to loop at times. Other than that---great phone.

Usually 1.2 hours of Bluetooth connection on my round trip to work and lunch with streaming music and about 25-40 minutes of phone calls. Connection to my smartwatch all day, checking Notes traveler email every 15 minutes (refreshes). Also, I probably take 10-15 photos for work each day and email to customers (20 MB), probably 15-50 texts during that period, calendar, Outlook and about 30-40 minutes SOT.

The battery is quite nice in this phone. I've jumped ship from Redmi Note 4 which had a massive 4100 MaH battery which usually lasted for around 10-12 hours (screen on time) depending upon screen brightness.
This one doesn't disappoint too. It lasts me for about 7-8 hours (screen on time). I've about 44 apps installed including the battery enemy messenger and Facebook apps too. I do think this phone is well optimised.
Screen on time depends on usage and number of active apps with screen brightness.
In ultra power mode, I left the phone at 25% charge at 10 pm and it was 25% at 6 am. So that's a big advantage again.
Here's a screenshot for you.
Battery life is really good on this phone...actually too good for my taste, as I found it killing Tasker, even though I had it whitelisted on their list of apps to kill when then phone goes to sleep. This was quite frustrating but I think I've found a fix in Tasker settings. I unchecked "Run In Foreground" and now I haven't seen it killed since, but it's only been 1 day. This seems backward to me but it seems better so far.

But you can see enough to see that I recveived a Full Refund... No Questions Asked.
I hope this settles this issue for Amazon U.S.A.
