UPDATESSS - Verizon HTC One (M9)

http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/06/11/htc-one-m9-gets-big-camera-update/
Did anyone see this? Looks promising, i hope a dev can make a stock rooted version!

To be honest, id probably flash that update. Im in Israel and i have yet to find someone with a Java card here. Stock isnt horribleeeee but i miss Cyanogen/AOSP

Stock isn't bad at all if you disable all the crap. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact we're not getting root.

I have root. Dottat is only an inbox message and a shipping charge+donation away.

Ok, a hundred people or so will have root. Which means there's not a whole lot of development that will be happening, so I'll just live with stock.

I disagree, it takes time to get things going. Most the Developers (that I know of anyway) that are on Verizon have gotten their phones S-OFF, and are working hard to bring us the goodies. It will only get better from here, and those who are patient enough or don't feel like shipping their devices, will have all the goodies waiting for them, as we are working hard getting the ball rolling. It will only keep getting better and better. Even if SunShine NEVER brings support to Verizon, their any many amazing people with Java Cards who are 100% trustworthy and depending how you ship your device it can be back the same week. (I personally sent my phone out with $400 insurance on a Monday, and the phone was back in my hands by Wednesday - It was on it's way back to me with a tracking # before I even had time to see if the phone had made it!) 100% worth it, and thank you again @dottat!

i appreciate the encouragement. ive considering learning how to.compile, but i dont know programming and id assume id need to know that. if its a situation of placing files in this directory and that directory, and changing paths in this code and that....i can probably do that.

Anybody knows of camera update ..is it only firmware or software for it to work. Example is the international builds we are running latest build but not firmware. Somebody told me we need firmware to see change on camera, but a really can see a difference in camera quality without the firmware

Probably never.
I bet by the end of this week. Root will be easy, bootloader will not be broken though. I just want my Titanium Backup and Root Explorer so root is all need.
I called a few att stores in my area and each of them said they have them in stock, but cannot sell them... How'd you pull this off?

I just walked in and asked? Ha. And would we not be able to flash custom ROMS? I need my CM11!
You'll never have CM11 on it. Never. But you can use exposed and do other mods. Just no ROMS.

I was surprised when it happened because samsung phones were always so open. Nexus 6 looks good but it's just a big phone with no feature that I know of at least to take advantage if that screen. At least they finally went above 32gb now. But I don't think I'll ever buy an AT&T phone ever again.
I did the same. Walked into an AT&T near me during lunch and got a white Note 4. I wasn't expecting to be able to get one but they are selling them here in Milwaukee.
Much like some of you here, I don't need anything more than root to run titanium and a couple other things. I never understood the idea of getting a note device to throw an AOSP rom on it that negates the S Pen functionality and other Note qualities. Why not just get any other big phone?

Why do you say that? Root and bootloader are two completely different things.
Root should be easy and we should get it. Custom recovery on the other hand, probably not.
I'm in Pa and just called my local store, they have them in as well and the guy said I can come get one now. I'M on my way to pick up note 4 also. I'm with u guys just want root for titanium backup and xposed , I really don't flash roms to often anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these custom ROMS don't support the S Pen. If that is true, what use is the ROMS if you can't use the S Pen. That is one major point of the whole note.

The S Pen was never a real selling point for me. HTCs have bad cameras, LGs have have horrible reliability from mine/my buddies experience with the G2 and the Note is still the spec king. I could definitely get behind a Nexus though.

Which store did you go to? I tried at the Greenfield store on 76th and Layton but they said they will start selling it on the 17th.
I don't mind touchwiz myself and if you haven't played with a note 4 in store you might be pretty happy with touchwiz this time around, its snappy and actually doesn't look nearly as bad as it used to. Can just install nova or google now launcher if it is that bothersome though from a UI perspective. Setting wise I think Samsung offers more a better features than aosp.

I got the Note 4 in Pasadena, they had 5 white and 2 black. They are technically not suppose to sell them until Friday, but all the corp stores got them. It took a bit of effort to get them to admit they had them, and I pulled the corporate partner card on them so they went ahead with it.
Now what sucks is I can't transfer any of my data with titanium backup, I am wondering when root will be available.
I also agree with others here, if you don't need or care for the S-Pen the Nexus 6 is probably the device you want...
So who will be first to release a root?
Hopefully we can get root for now... Maybe we should check out the G3 forum as they got root with the bootloader locked...

Boot Loader

Hello all,
Given that Amazon has just slashed the price on what is in reality a powerful phone, what is the likelihood that we could see an unlocked bootloader (from the community) in the near future. CM would really make this phone fly.
I got the Fire Phone, as it was a $100 for me (i consider the 99$ amazon prime that comes with it, like renewing my existing one that expires on Jan 1st anyway).
As an excited developer, I actually am planning to devote time to trying to flash Custom Recoveries (or at least boot them), and getting Android Lollipop on it. Those are my 2 goals. I have no clue if I will achieve them, as this is my first strong attempt at making something custom, but I will try. I have android 5.0 and fireos sources downloaded. I will try to pull all the system level stuff on my phone from it (incase I need drivers or something), and take a stab. If I can get Lollipop stock working, I will then move to CM 12 and do that.
My goal is for 5.x support. If I can pull it off, I don't want to foray into anything less than Android 5.0.
Wish me luck.
As for bootloader unlock, I haven't checked, but it might be as simple as fastboot oem unlock. Here's to hoping.
Great to hear! Thank you for dedicating your time, I am hopping after end of this semester I will be able to join in this endeavor.
Best of luck!

Just a heads up, the bootloader is locked down pretty tight. Unlocking it will require finding and using an exploit. there is a guy on the HDX forum that found an exploit for that Tablet that would work for the Fire Phone, but he decided for legal reasons to not release it anywhere, so both devices are in limbo. Wish i knew even at which exploit to look into and I would do the rest myself.
if it is locked so tight, what is the point of giving away as open source

If it was as simple as a 'fastboot oem unlock' we wouldn't be here half a year later discussing this to begin with. All I'm saying, of course that wasn't going to work.
Glad you're attempting this. If I can help, please let me know. Unless people smarter than me can unlock the bootloader, you might be creating one great virtual machine that won't make it to this nice piece of hardware.
I bought this phone to learn more about the same things you plan to do. I dislike the fireos (and the glitches in the use of the side-loaded gapps) enough to return the phone, but the cheap price, dreaming of a decent OTA update in January, and folks like you working on it makes me think I'll hang on to it as a backup.
I just got a fire phone as well. Hope this forum will get more traction as Amazon release its FireOS source...
"My name is 4.1chan, I will hack this device because I am great developer. Trust me, I took a Jawa class in Kindergarten and passed."
Seriously though, can't see this happening any time soon. You need experienced people, not someone who says they can do it even though they don't even know the boot loader is locked like Ford Knox. Big talk has always led to big disappointment in my experience on xda-developers. Don't get your hopes up, the phone is basically rubbish as it is (even more with simlock), so don't just buy because it is cheap.
Agreed, I am not expecting much on the unlocking front. If it happens great, if not oh well. But I would not call this phone rubbish, it's fast cheap and runs everything I need perfectly. Sure it doesn't have that perfect Android feel, but who cares. Plus the auto scroll feature is pretty handy.
The phone's spec is great for the $200 unlocked price but NO ROM, NO BUY MAN.

[Q] Might be getting a little obsessive...

This is my first android phone on verizon before this i had the iPhone 5 for 2 years and before that i was on sprint with the evo 3d which was rooted... i didn't know it was a mission to get verizon phones rooted. Now im checking the forums everyday like 3 or 4 times a day to see if anything new has come up for root. Im getting desperate lol. People that have had previous note devices on verizon, did it usually take this long?
Lol you sound just like me! Ive looked everywhere. And now just sticking to xda hopen for some good news! I had a s2 rooted then went to ip4 to ip5s both jb. now im back to android with n4. N4 is a bad ass just waiting for this root to make it even meaner! I feel your pain bud!
Don't count on this phone being rooted on Verizon. If it's that important, you may need to switch phones/carriers. It's unfortunate.
It'll be rooted, just have patience. People are SMART around here, and they'll figure it out. It's still a fantastic phone as it is.

I don't doubt that the N4 will eventually have root.
I think the issues as stated is that CF needs an unlocked bootloader, which means either we get an unlocked bootloader (which I really doubt) or someone finds an alternative method. So yeah, nobody can predict the future, but this isn't like other phones like say on Tmob. There are more obstacles people with AT&T/VZW need to overcome. Saying otherwise at this point is very misleading to potential buyers and retail owners.

I think the note 3 just got root this past summer, and it was released Sept 2013, so that would be 8-10 months after release.

Well if we've learned anything about Samsung this year its that they don't know how to properly plan their phone supplies. At this point I'll just wait for an M9 instead of dealing with Samsung's DE circus.

s-off and bootloader unlock question

Hi all!
Just picked up an M9 this week... Had an M8 prior to that. I've been reading through the forums and spent some time on the M8 forums flashing, testing, and customizing the phone with Roms. I've been reading about the M9 and have noticed some mention that Verizon is firm about a locked bootloader and all. I was curious how on the M8, S-off and unlocking the bootloader was achieved if Verizon is so strict about keeping the phone locked down? Thanks for any responses in advance Looking forward to customizing this beast of a phone. Thank you to all the Devs that make all of this possible!
Cheers,
Ren

The M8 was like this when it first came out. Yes Verizon is strict. From what I have been told they are trying to find a Temporary Root Exploit to be able to S-Off and all that goodness. We just have to be patient like the First Model M8 people were. Luckily when I first got my M8 it was rootable and stuff. So just be patient, or feel free to donate to jcase and beaups to help buy them energy drinks.
Everything @Balian67 said an also one tip. Don't do any updates till you are s-off as updates could cause exploit not to work if there is a exploit released.

Totally agree with this!! Oh my lord is there a difference between Touchwiz and Sense. The way Samsung complicates settings drives me bonkers. It just doesn't need to be that complicated.
I'm in S6 trial week. Lol. So far not impressed. The so called super snappy touchwiz has a laggy keyboard whether stock or google. Also don't get me started on Chrome browser lag. Little things here and there that are non existent on even the m8. Overall its snappy but it still has annoying hicups here and there. Gonna take a miracle for me not to exchange for an m9 next weekend.
I had an M7 but not an M8 and had put AOSP on it because Sense just didn't feel right to me.
I bought an M9 because of the retail employee deal of no-contract for $300 and trading in for the new one every year. Ditched my G3 and haven't looked back. I love Sense 7. Not only is the UI smooth and really easy to use, the whole design language flows so well with the physical design of the phone. I don't think I'll be putting a custom ROM on this but I would love root for an ad blocker. I forgot how many ads there were on phones until I had to use this M9 without root.
Is anyone planning on making a bounty thread?

No need really. Bounty threads are worthless distractions too.
For example, one of the last ones claimed only netted the receiver 30% of all promised funds.
Sunshine will likely include vzw some time in the near future...you probably didn't use it on your m7 but it's a standalone app and costs $25.

For example, one of the last ones claimed only netted the receiver 30% of all promised funds.
Sunshine will likely include vzw some time in the near future...you probably didn't use it on your m7 but it's a standalone app and costs $25.

Worth every $0.01 (2500 pennies).

Well, it worked on the S5, that's for sure. Leading to the most prolific exploit in android history with Towelroot, so I wouldn't say pointless. I'm not sure the exact % that paid their pledges, but I paid mine. The ads in apps and webpages are really starting to bug me honestly, and I miss my battery-saving apps and xposed modules. I jumped to HTC from the S5 specially to restore bootloader access and ultimately CM-based ROM's to my phone experience. I guess leaving Verizon would have been a more thoughtful choice, but oh well. If anyone starts a bounty thread (and yes I know almost everyone thinks its a bad idea), I'm in.
That being said, much respect to the people working on a root method for us currently. You guys make my little phone hacking hobby possible, so thank you.

I don't know exactly how true it was, but when I first got my M8 and found out that I had to pay $25 to get S-OFF, at first I was hesitant...But I kept reading WHY and immediately understood and paid right away. It separates guys like us who pay their pledge from people who DON'T. As I am sure you would EASILY pay the $25 to get S-OFF. I know I would. I almost prefer it this way, because im pretty much sure it comes with tech support for those who need it. If only more americans stood by their word instead of promising things they would never fulfill. I know that this community has always been about contributing and free things to make all of our experiences better. I get that, but all too often, people take the work and claim it to be theirs. I remember a few devs (that I talked to a lot) had this problem with users of the Samsung Moment and HTC Evo 4G. So between all of the devs hard work not being appreciated (especially when they do this stuff for THEIR phone and they release it to us to enjoy and some people are always complaining or demanding features, yet they don't contribute by donating to the dev so they can buy energy drinks to keep their mind going, or beer to help relax them after they finished a massive update that fixed all the bugs and added features and stuff. Then people wonder why they have to pay $25. Well I have been a member of XDA for years, contributed a lot here or on irc chat, and I will gladly pay $25 to get S-OFF, Root, and Custom Recovery. Why? Because since the DAWN of xda, everyones phone has been made far better then what ANY manufacturer gives us. I mean seriously...I would have Android Lollipop on devices that Samsung or whoever has long gone moved on from. Why? Because of XDA, and the devs. I swear if everyone paid $25 these devs would be able to buy all sorts of devices to root for us. I know I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro, and an HTC. So I appreciate it, and you know what? I consider that $25 a donation to have root on devices period. Why? Because without the people who know what they're doing, I wouldn't be able to install xposed, make entire backups of my phone (so if the device fails while on warranty), I can EASILY restore my phone. I had that happen with my old HTC Evo 4G LTE. That phone broke 3 times on me and each replacement bestbuy gave me (2), all I had to do was get S-OFF flash a custom recovery, and do a "Restore" then all my texts were there, apps were there (with data), call logs were there. I can go on. That $25 is security for me. So saying all that, I will sit here as patient as I can be to get S-OFF and when the time comes to hit the pay button, there wont be a second thought. No regrets. No more stress. Any more Andybones roms to flash.
BOOM (pardon all the grammatical errors, yall get my point.............right?)

Root And Root Tools

I was able to root my Droid Razr M easily using KingoRoot. Thankfully with KingoRoot it is pretty easy to switch over to SuperSu.
Thanks for the info. It works perfectly.
Yes...if you know how to update the binaries. I spent a good week and a half researching and testing before I decided to root. I've never done anything like this before. I've never coded commands into a phone, much less knew what half of the tools were that did it. I'm really bad with anything above basic math, but my number organization skills are off the chart. Add to that a photographic memory, and this was a lot easier than I thought. I didn't run into any 'problems,' at lleast not in the terms of bricking my phone and what not. I was blown away to be honest. I'm having a great time even though I can't flash a custom ROM to mine The only problem I had was with the binaries and it was extremely difficult to find any information on how to install them. I came across a few websites here and there, but nothing worked and I was still stuck with that god awful KingRoot. Don't get me wrong...I'm thankful for it's existence, but it really is an annoyance with a horrible UI. But without an update to the binaries, you couldn't switch out KingRoot with SuperSU.
After nearly three days of searching, I finally came across this small, three paged thread, here on this very site. It was in fact the reason why I made an account here in the first place, to write a reply and thank the OP for his easy to follow instructions. Follow the procedure and you'll get those binaries into the right place and SuperSU properly installed and running in no time.

Same here. Can't unlock the bootloader since I'm running the most recent OTA makes me mad.

Apparently SunShine can unlock bootloaders on certain devices...for US$25.00. Mine is compatible. I'm debating on getting it done. Not entirely sure yet.
Don't really want to waste $25, gotta be a way to do it by yourself.

As of the moment, there isn't, unless you have the codes. I've been looking and looking. So far nothing has worked.
However, there is this: I emailed Motorola on April 3rd. I was pretty straight forward and told them what I wanted. The bootloader unlocked. They replied today. They didn't say no, but they did direct me to a page, which I had already been to a few times, and the RAZR M is not listed.
Hi Jason,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We actually do not recommend unlocking bootloader. It is beyond our support, but what we can do is to provide you the link: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/87215.
We want to let you know that we value your business with us. If you have other questions regarding Motorola devices and services.
Best Regards,

So I wrote them back again saying this:
My phone is not listed and I've already done the steps here: https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth and my phone doesn't qualify for an unlock. I have a Droid Razr M. It's no longer scheduled for any software updates or patches. NOT allowing my bootloader to be unlocked serves no real purpose anymore. I can totally understand the aggravation it might have caused Motorola at the time, when the exploit was popular and worked on many phones, but my phone is now ancient in terms of technology of today. 2014, 3 years, nearly 4+, is a long time ago for technology, especially phones. Thank you for ypour continued time.

True. If it helps you decide, i used sunshine and it worked. This phone is aging though and to be honest its nearing its end of life. Running out of space due to increased app sizes and struggling to keep a smooth experience. Best android i've ever had though. Best of luck to you

I agree. Best version of Android was KitKat. It had everything. I love my XT907. I don't really have any performance issues with it as I am constantly optimizing it in some form. But you are right: It's aging and if it is to be of any real use in the near future, unlocking the bootloader is what you should do.
