TWRP recovery work on rooted LG G4? (Locked Bootloader) - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have flashed twarp recovery through flashify. But i cant get into recovery mode. Im on H815-10b-SEA.
Please help

Same, I have it installed and Flashed it using Flashify but doing the button combo still goes to LG's recovery

What I did was when already in TWRP (using Flashify/fastboot command) simply install TWRP again, from there.
Choose install, image, recovery and select the TWRP image file. Flash. Now a button-reboot should work :good:

So TWRP now works for locked BL?

Have you attempted to do anything in TWRP such as making/restoring a backup, or flashing something besides TWRP? This is very interesting to me!

Can someone confirm if flashing TWRP is possible with a locked bootloader with root as hinted above by the means of Flashify etc?
Thanks

A few people seem to have had success and I suspect this question is going to get more important with Marshmallow being quite tricky to root without an unlocked bootloader.

interesting... i might give it a try. might backup with LG bridge first

It's not possible to flash TWRP on a locked bootloader because until it's unlocked, the recovery partition is write protected. So TWRP can't be written to the device.

I have flashed twrp on several devices with a locked boot loader. It depends on if the version of twrp has been patched where the boot loader detects it as official lg recovery. .that's what I've heard it was but I have several lg devices with twrp and locked bl

Very much doubt this is possible on the g4. Unless anyone has proof, I don't think it's possible.

I tried.
Flash recovery and reboot.
Reboot to recovery through app gives secure boot error but it boots normally.
Rebooting with button combination takes me to stock recovery, so don't know if it flashed it or not.
Doesn't work even going into recover manually by saying yes when on stock recovery.
Just broke stock recovery but boots fine.

Oh I bet it ain't happening on this g4 lol I'm having that same fastboot/****ed up stock recovery with my gpad 10.1 and it still boots into Android... I just wish I had the same look as everyone else who had success flashing recovery with a locked bootloader on that tablet

Im trying to flash TWRP on my v50020b but cannot seem to do it. Its currently on the stock 4.4.2 GB rom. Please can someone advise me how to do this.
Thank You.
You can use dd to write the aboot.img of 4.2.2 back. This will allow the old Loki flash method.

I had the same problem until I ran across this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698267 {Acually the same you quoted}
If you'll go down to the download Step #3 and copy that zip file to your computer and unzip it and run the bat file it will install TWRP v2.7. Of course you'll have to install the LG USB drivers and install from your computer. (Won't work otherwise) Also be sure and use the second down connection for USB on your tablet - M-something, but not the charging one.
Also - get a good reboot app so you won't have to hold the buttons.

You're quoting an old post (way back in April 2014).
1st - Do you have a recovery installed?
2nd - If so, you should update to at least TWRP 2.800
I may be confused about exactly what you are doing...now if you're only booting with the buttons (power-sound down, sound up) that is the message you get and you have to push 'power' 2 times to enter recovery. Are you doing that when you see the display of android recovery after using the cold boot, then the volume and power buttons?? And you are expecting to see TWRP opening, but instead of going straight to TWRP recovery - you're getting what you say 'Android Recovery', or Factory Reset?
Post back so we will understand please. Hope I'm not being confusing in my answers...

I know that is an old post. I was trying to flash the TWRP recovery without any downgrade of the software, since this method was suposed to work with the software version V50020b.
I simply want to flash TWRP recovery, the tablet is all stock with root (TowelRoot), but I just realised that I have to downgrade the software (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58198471&postcount=44), and wanted to avoid this! I already softbricked the tablet with only 3h of usage, and now I'm a little afraid! lol
Do you now any method that works without the downgrade trick?
Thanks.
Flash TWRP with flashify (root) - (from Play Store).
This *should* work & if not I think no harm will come ... Flashify.app just won't 'work' if things are not correct.
Good luck!

I would shut the tablet completely down.
You should be able to use the 'buttons' to get to 'Factory Reset'. Do what you know: Power/+down then all 3. If you can't get to TWRP, it must not be installed.
Check with a command window. Be sure & use 'su'. Ask a guru 'how'...I may not be 'expert' enough!

Hi, i had the same problem as yours with v50020d 4.4.2
first i rooted with ioroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776198
second install step 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2698267
you have to run "runme.bat" from the zip. If did not install here is a post that helped me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54027265&postcount=9
then flash witch recovery you want with flashify or twrp app
if you have any questions message me.
good luck

I think I need to be already rooted to use this method, dp I not ?
I need to root and install twrp.
When i had my G2, the forums was buzzing with new Roms, it was pretty much a bullet proof phone, i was hoping for the same with the G4, pretty gutted that its so quiet in these forums for this phone.

Hope your TWRP sticks, I'm new to this and it took me 3 attempts to get it to stick.
To get into recovery
Hold both power button and volume down button pressed
At first sight of LG logo release power button 1 second, Still holding volume down, then repress power button.
You should now get white screen with just 2 options, select "Reset" , Select with Power button, scroll with volume up/down
Again get white screen and confirm reset
If TWRP is on phone it should now appear.
If its not you are in for a Factory Reset
:
Now do a default backup in TWRP (very handy this)
Then move systemless root zip to phone.
In twrp select install find your "systemless root zip " flash , then reboot using "System" DO not accept option to root your phone offered after selecting- reboot>system.
Hope its goes well

I am on the same boat as OP. I unlocked the bootloader after updating to Marshmallow, so I didn't have TWRP from Lollipop. Now, even though it says that the flashing went okay, there is no recovery to boot into. Using "adb reboot recovery" it shows the android logo with the exclamation mark. If I do it using the hardware buttons, I get the LG's menu to wipe everything or exit.

If you have root there are many apps on play store such as : quick boot, simple boot, quick reboot. Install one of these and and they all all have options for reboot, hotboot, boot to recovery, etc. etc.
I have TWRP on my phone and if I use the standard way to enter recovery , power+volume down, then I will get the standard LG recovery screen but when I accept the recovery options there, it takes me to TWRP

@ Dante897 No, if you don't have TWRP then don't. don't say yes to LG Recovery or you'll loose everything . You can also run TWRP on your PC and install systemless root zip that way. That maybe what I did, I can't exactly remember now.
I'm off to bed now, last night was a late night too.
I figured it out. You aren't supposed to flash the recovery., you are supposed to boot to it, flash SuperSU and then use Flashify to install TWRP. I did that, but I flashed the wrong SuperSU (I am an idiot I know) and my phone won't boot now. Currently I am in download mode and downloading the rom with LG Bridge . You can follow the guide here if you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-t3128241 but whatever you do DO NOT flash SuperSU 2.46, grab the newest from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
I cannot say that it will work, all I can tell you is that 2.46 certainly doesn't work.
EDIT: Alright, I let LG Bridge install the update, no wipe happened. I did the process again, this time I flashed SuperSU v2.62-3 and everything went well and my phone is now rooted.

-1 installs, but two issues if you're encrypted:
1) TWRP doesn't stick. After a restart, you won't be able to get back into TWRP and need to reflash it.
2) Installing SU via TWRP doesn't work. It runs into an error if you read the responses during the flash in TWRP.
We'll just have to be patient until the devs do their magic on the encrypted version.

If you root using phh's superuser and magisk, TWRP will stick. His solution also allows you to use Android Pay with root, albeit with a little hoop-jumping

I had the twrp not sticking issue in the past. What has worked is to boot twrp, not flash it, then flash SU. Then boot back into the bootloader and flash twrp.

LG G3 Secure boot error (flashing blue and red LED) but can enter TWRP. Help!!

Hi All
I've searched as much as i can but can't find a solution to my problem. I flashed SuperSU over the official Lineage 14.1 install and now it won't boot, just flashes red and blue with a secure boot error. I've tried extracting boot.img from the ROM and flashing that but no luck.
Does anyone know/have the files I need to flash to cure this?
Thanks in advance
P.S. Just notice the menu bar in TWRP is red. Don;t know if that means anything
P.S. P.S If anyone knows the correct file I need to flash over a Lineage install for root that would also helpful

The only thing that you needed to do was install Mr.Bump.

Secondly,When you get Secure Booting Error, you can't boot into your ROM.(But you can access TWRP)
So the fastest fix is flashing Mr.bump via TWRP and then you'll be able to Boot into your ROM.
On the other hand,If after secure booting someone can't access TWRP.(Normally you can access TWRP after secure booting, but if you are unlucky)Then reflashing Stock ROM is the best choice (and the only one)
Greetings.

Hi All
I've searched as much as i can but can't find a solution to my problem.

Well i had Secure Booting Error while trying Dual Booting.
Just flashed MR.Bump and everything worked.
When you get Secure Booting it doesn't mean that you have Soft/hardBRICKED your LG G3.
Your device only gets to bootloop.Nothing else.
If you had secure boot error and couldn't access TWRP then you should have been at the unlucky road.
That's why..We ask if he can access TWRP or not.
If he can,flash Mr. Bump.
If he can't,reflash stock ROM.

[ROM] H932 Oreo v20k - stock - keeps TWRP

This is ONLY for the H932. There are no ASSERT checks, so you better pay attention. If you flash this on any other model, you will brick your phone.
Also, I was in a hurry so there is no progress indicator. Just let it flash, you will know when it is done -- it doesn't take THAT long.
So you have used lafsploit and would like to have Oreo back -- got ya covered.
Flash this zip: link in TWRP.
Code:
SHA256: [B]931f3b424c8d5af3bb6b88863fc8659fa9c4ffef87f53b3eb3f33d4670debd58[/B]
You can dirty flash it over 10d.
It is 100% stock. The only change I made was removing recovery-from-boot.p, but it appears that isnt enough to keep recovery from getting wiped if you dont flash Magisk.
After flashing this, you MUST flash Magisk again or you will lose TWRP and root, and have to use lafsploit all over again.

Ignore
I downloaded the zip went to twrp tried to flash got error 6 trying to flash so I wiped all partitions including system now I lost twrp and can't even get to download mode only getting fastboot mode with 2 options restart or power off I'm assuming I lost download mode. Lol any suggestions on how to get download mode @ Brian or anyone who can help? Haha thanks appreciate the help and support!?
Fix uploaded.

Excellent work good sir. Now just have to hope some ROM devs start supporting the H932 variant.

Have you tried both options to get into DL mode? With hardware keys and power off vol up and plug in?

Sooo I flashed the zip, now trying to get back into recovery mode and it just says "No Command" on the screen when doing adb reboot recovery.

When you download the file, what's the file name? Is a bunch of random letters and in bin format? I may have issues going on here

H93220k.zip
But I think Brian uploaded a fix for it
Fixed

Thanks for that. Hmm I definitely have something going on then. This is my file name after it downloads
1XAfpo2cZvdZrPICeYg_UIvA0oeE0V1ux.bin but it has a meta folder so it's a zip for sure but I bet it's getting corrupted on the download.

Have you tried a different browser? I had an issue similar a bit ago(not related to this file), where the file was downloading as a bin. I tried a different browser and no cognito mode and it fixed it for me.
Cleaned
Well, I did it to myself. I was in a hurry and wiped everything and installed the Oreo zip, booted up without flashing magisk zip and stock recovery came back and I haven't had time to start from step 1.
Don't do what I did, FLASH MAGISK after the oreo :doh
I just re-read the OP and I don't know what I did that caused TWRP to go bye bye but stock recovery absolutely came back.
Thanks for doing all this for us. I literally have nothing right now to give, but I will be donating in the next week or so.
@Josh McGrath Weird. I wasnt able to test the zip since i boxed up the V30 that i was loaned to make this happen. I have double checked that i removed recovery-from-boot.p .. there must be another mechanism in place that restores stock recovery. I will update the first post so people know that flashing Magisk is NOT optional.
Sorry you have to go through the process all over again.

Believe I nuked LAF, download mode acts like it is booting up, freezes with the little logo then reboots to system, not able to use LG up at all due to not going in to download mode, tried using lg bridge to fix recovery(refreshing latest firmware thinking it would maybe help rejuvenate LAF)
Couldn't get fastboot to work at the beginning, but ended up being able to relock the bootloader
were the mess up was I believe, thinking h933 LAF was still installed and rerooting.
Anyway to flash LAF thru FWUL?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news too. But I don't have a download mode anymore either.. can't even boot into it. Tried it with just plugging it in as well. Doesn't exist.
Also don't have TWRP because I didn't flash Magisck after.

If I remember correctly I flashed majisk after flashing 20k.zip, wish I would of waited to update but at least others will be aware.
Still great job @runningnak3d, might wanna pull the 20k.zip for now, seems there is another check for lafbak to overwrite LAF corrupting the partition
