Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ UK owners thread - Galaxy S6 Edge+ General

So just kicking this off the the UK folk.
What are your thoughts. Which network to consider. UK specific experiences. Best price hunt for launch date.

Order mine 64gb in gold, carphonewarehouse, coming next week at some point. Just hoping the battery life is as good as my 6 Plus or it will be going back and I'll get the 6S Plus instead.

Ordered a 64Gb Gold one from Carphonewarehouse too, I just hope it doesn't get screwed up like previous phone launch dates and shoddy parcel company deliveries I have experienced in the past. I never get why a launch date is always a Friday with Samsung, if it doesn't arrive on a Friday it usually means a LONG wait until Monday or Tuesday.
Very excited to get this phone.

When is it due to hit UK shops?

mine says 4 september from 3 ..64gb gold
blisspop 3.7.arter97 kernel 7.1. xposed framwork

I reluctantly ordered mine on EE in gold (32GB is all EE offer at present) with 10GB of data which supposedly should arrive on Friday 4th Sept. I currently have the Note3 and was holding out for the Note5 until Samsung dropped the bomb shell on us. I also have a Samsung Gear S which I love so I guess I've sort of bought into the whole Samsung Eco system.
I know I'm going to struggle with 32GB but I'm really hoping to be pleasantly surprised with the S6 Edge+

Seems like the gold version is the hot favourite. I wouldn't touch a gold one with a barge pole haha.
From some of the YouTube videos, the silver one looks the best. Going from past experiences fones4u or someone similar will get it exclusively in that colour. I don't get why all the colours can't be released at the same time. Early adopters will miss out regret and cuss Samsung.
Such an expensive phone though. Thinking about keeping an eye out on some European amazon sites for the silver one. Should be cheaper

I am certain the silver one is not for the European markets. The UK (afaik) is black or gold. All the YouTube reviews I have watched really praise how stunning the gold looks in particular. It's why I ordered one
Oh and Phones4U went bust a long time ago.

Same here mate. Went through EE and ordered the black version. The silver one is the one I wanted so gutted it isn't coming to the UK. My wife has just got the S6 Edge in gold and even though it looks nice, it isn;t the colour for myself. She got the clear view case in the same colour so it comes in handy as another compact mirror for when she does her makeup
I'd have liked to get the Note 5 as I too have a Note 3 at the minute. Had to order the S6 Edge+ as I can't go back to smaller screens. I've had a go on the S6 Edge and it seems like a great phone so I thought why not get the big screen version.

RIP Phones4U. The customer service was usually crap but they gave great deals and generally threw the kitchen sink in as well.

I'm not forum UK but im in Europe, Portugal.
I ordered mine today 32GB Gold. Hopefully it will be available on friday.

Is there a source where it says the silver is not coming to the UK?

Think they had to close because the networks didn't want their products sold by idiots who told any lie needed to get a sale.

Guys I live in portugal and I just got my phone, it is so amazing +--+
It was supposed to be released only on 4 sept, but it was available today xd

When I was in the EE store I saw the silver version, which is the one I wanted. When I pre-ordered it they asked what colour I wanted between black or gold. I said silver, as it's on the stand and they said that it was a Samsung supplied unit and no indication of what the store could offer. On the 3 website, the only options are gold and black too. I want the phone sooner rather than later but I bet it works it's way into the country at a later stage from one of the providers.

I heard that they would do anything for a sale which normally meant the customer got some great monthly deals as well as freebies. In the end, it was their downfall.
I thought about getting the 64gb version but I'm tied to EE and they only do the 32....for now. I've checked what I have on my Note 3 from the internal 32 and the 16gb SD card and I think I can get away with the 32gb version. The biggest thing I have on my Note 3 is a Clockwork backup which is about 9gig. If rooting/ROMS do eventually come out for the Edge+ I'll just backup to my laptop.

@PAULO76 I ended up pre ordering the 64gb gold. Have a look at this mate. I have one and they totally rock

I've heard of them before but I never looked into them as I never needed one. I will be ordering one now haha.
On another note, I'm considering the gold version over the black now. Shame it's a finger print magnet. Guess I'll be comparing the 2 colours at the end of the week.

[Q] Where to buy replacement housing/rear frame?

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Today I dropped my phone for the first time ever! The only problem is that the phone was my brand new N7100. Anyone know where to get a quality replacement housing? Screen and battery cover are okay. Only chrome was scratched.

Galaxy Note II Owners & XDA Members:
I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. I've found several places claiming to sell that for which I'm looking. I've posted some below.

What I need, is a reliable seller that has a quality rear housing. My problem is that I've never heard of any of these sellers and I have no idea how well the housings they're selling were made.
Could someone please point me in the right direction? Have any of you ever ordered from one of these sellers? I'm really short on options here. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Edward (Mister_Mxyzptlk)

I would say check out www.cnn.cn I have used that site in the past to get parts for various smartphones of mine especially BB stuff way back in the day. I know they have GN2 N7100 dummy phones for sale, so you may be able to use the parts on one of those.

Ya', cnn.cn carries the housing. It's actually one of the links I included in my previous post. I appreciate you letting me know that they're a straight-forward business though. That was my main worry. However, location is also another big worry for me. Are you aware of any suppliers in the United States or Europe? Communication, shipping times, and reliability are just so much better when you're not dealing with potential scammers in China; and for some reason, it's always China.
I've worked with businesses and eBay sellers in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Australia, the U.K., Germany, and China, and it's always China. I've had a chinese business try to scam me. I've had a chinese business ship me shawdy replacement parts and claim that they're original. If it's not one thing, it's another. Then on the flipside, all of the best stuff comes from China. I have a supplier in China that gets me all of my replacement iPhone parts for my business, and they're fantastic; so is his customer service! It's just so difficult to determine which sellers are good and which sellers are total crap.
Anyway, I should wrap this up. If I don't, it'll turn into a neverending rant. So, if you say that cnn.cn is a good, reliable seller, I guess I'll go ahead and give them a shot. I appreciate your post, and hope you have a pleasant day. Take care and have a good one!
Thank you,
Ed

Sorry Ed, I am not aware of any other suppliers to recommend. I live here in the US as well and have purchased from them many times all without any issue. Still it can be concerning when ordering something from overseas and waiting and waiting and waiting some more for it to arrive.
if it's only scratched chrome, it won't bother me with the protective cover on, hehe

Getting it in the UK

Hi all,
From all that I have seen it doesn't look like the ZL will be officially available in the UK. As such the options for buying a C6503 model are:
Import from Europe
It's quite expensive at the moment, and the retailer which should have no problems shipping abroad (Amazon) had the highest price of them all last time I checked. I can definitely see this working fine, with the German version having en_GB locale support and playing nicely with the operators.
Import from Asia (ie HK)
From Expansys (http://www.expansys.com.hk/sony-xperia-zl-lte-c6503-unlocked-16gb-black-247249) the total works out cheaper by about £60, with the shipping not being much slower. The other positives are that in HK they use the same power plugs as in the UK (no need to mess with power adaptors), and en_GB would definitely come preloaded as a locale. The only worry is that the manufacturer model quoted is 'AP_C6503_BLK', where the 'AP' stands for the Asia-Pacific version. I'm wondering whether this could have any implications on the hardware and software. I suppose as software goes it should always be possible to reflash it to a German firmware, but I can't help but think that something could be different.
Also found this: http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=21943
Despite coming up on Google Shopping with good reviews, I found other review websites which seemed to suggest the opposite. They also claimed to have had it in stock two or three weeks ago (I've been following this page for a while), when it wasn't even released in Europe. Both of these make me think that this website is a bit dodgy, and make me wonder where the device originally comes from (HK, Germany, Russia?).
I'm seriously inclining towards the second option, but I'm wondering whether anyone around here has previous experience or some information that might be able to help make the best choice.
Thanks.
Amazon Germany and Amazon Italy now have it for circa €560.
Nooo!! do not buy from simply electronics! I had an awful experience and a quick Google will give you the same feedback.
I am in the UK. Love the phone.
I bought mine from eBay from a seller in HK. Took 2 days to arrive via FedEx $599
Seller: jetcodigital
Expect to pay import tax although they did send as a gift with value of $100 so you might be lucky.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured about Simply Electronics.
So presumably the device you have is an Asia-Pacific version. Did you notice any differences or oddities when it came to the software/hardware?
Thanks for the feedback, I haven't actually checked eBay yet but will give it a quick look.
Hi I haven't noticed anything strange yet. Seems like the right version for me. No odd software or anything. I'm using it on three UK. Everything has worked great right out of the box. Very pleased.

Another 3 uk user here, got my 6503 for ~£500 after shipping and tax from the states seller: never-msrp.
Even works on 3's secret LTE
Only issue is the US AC adapter.
I am gonna buy a white 6503 version from the German site; Cyberport.de
They can send it to several countries and the prices for that aren't that high.
The phone itself will cost you €550,00 and the shipping to the Netherlands (where I live) are only €13,00.
They've got the black version in stock, and the white version (that I want) is gonna be there in several days.
If you want to check out other stores in Germany:
Geizhals.de: black Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: white Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: red Sony Xperia ZL
Well, I ended up buying it from Amazon.de, which worked out to pretty much £500 after shipping and currency conversion. While Expansys.com.hk would have been cheaper, I felt that the European warranty was worth the additional price.
The funny thing is that I ordered yesterday and I should get it tomorrow. Ordering a device which isn't available in the UK, from Amazon.de, and guess what? The device was in the Milton Keynes distribution centre! Seems almost ridiculous, really.
Let us know how you get on.

Yeah it will be white for me, only little thing is that the notification led is better to see on the black one I think...
But I don't like the shiny sides of the black one, and when I first saw the white version I fell in love, so that's why.
And I think the notificationbar and bar with the buttons will look better on the white, on the black ZL it looks so greyish.
I got mine today, and man... it sure looks good and feels nice. It feels a bit heavy, compared to my S3, but I'll get used to that. The screen also looks good when looking at it directly, but gets worse as soon as the viewing angle increases. Although I suppose this is a good thing, as other people trying to look at my device shouldn't see as much as on my S3! The bezel on the side looks a bit bigger than on the pictures, but it's not a big deal. Overall when looking at video or pictures fullscreen it looks stunning, since there is so little bezel.
Now, since I'm a power user, I'm wondering whether I want to unlock the bootloader or just root. I actually don't mind Sony's customisations that much (barring Chrome instead of the stock browser, and the standard Gallery app), however if CM becomes stable enough I might put it on. Perhaps just the root for locked bootloaders will be good enough for now.
Nice to know some others in the uk have one. It's an exclusive club!)
Great phone so far for me. No regrets and no disappointment. I feel the same about the viewing angles. I'm stock all the way for once so will enjoy the factory experience.
I'm trialing the battery saving features at the moment. So far today I have had some good results. I'm not one for these features normally but I thought a the phone has had them I would give it a go.

Mate I've been wanting the exact info, I called up Samsung today, the useless farts, they said to call curry's so instead of arguing since I really couldn't be bothered I decided to call curry's and the guy on the other line (who did his best) said at the minute they have no orders for the 32GB but he couldn't say for sure if they would/wouldn't ever be getting them in.
I have been waiting but at times I think I'm waiting for nothing but a 16gb (about 9GB usable) just doesn't seem enough for me. I might call up Samsung again soon because surely they should know if they are going to sell it in the UK or not. Really getting annoyed at Samsung but the Note 10.1 is just too good not to get LOL.

Hopefully this means other shops like Currys will be getting them soon, Would rather buy it from a shop I can go back to if I need it exchanged or some other service which is the main reason I am hesitant getting it from America.

32GB is available to be purchased from ValueBasket and Simply Electrinics However stay away from them since both companies have reviews for being dodgey. I personally haven't used them and definitely don't intend on using them either but I thought I would let others know incase yous get excited when yous see it online.
Handtec also have the 32GB version in now - no idea how reputable they are though. I'm waiting for Currys to get them in stock with their £50 cashback...

That is very frustrating. So it's a choice between the 16GB at £400 from Currys and the 32GB at £510 from elsewhere... £110 for and extra 16GB doesn't seem worth it but if I go for the 16GB version will I be kicking myself in a few months?

I have used them in the past they are very reliable. They tend to get stuff from the continent because sometimes you receive the equipment with an additional UK power adaptor.

You bought one yet or undecided still on what route to take?
I think I'm going to have to just buy a 16GB from Currys, I wanted a 32GB from America but just thinking of the extra cost and also if I get a faulty product I wont be able to give it back for an exchange but would have to get Samsung to fix it (If they can).
One of the main reasons I was skeptical of 16GB was because my 16GB S3 had just 2GB free of internal storage and I didn't think I had much on it. However looking closer I noticed I had loads of Apps that I literally never used, also had some random videos I saved on there like a year ago that I never watched and I also moved a few things about (wierdly "Tiger Woods 12"game which is 900MB, 893MB of that game was stored on my external SD card mmmm - I installed it ages ago but I'm sure it gave me the option to store it on external so other games should be able to do this also), anyways back on track so after cleaning all the rubbish up and tidying up my phone I now have exactly 5.87GB free (Thats not including about 1GB worth of whatsapp videos and Images I don't care about). And tbh I still have a few Apps that I could easily delete aswell.
Sods law - Now currys dont seem to have any 16GB in stock at the minute
Update: Just seen 16GB on Tescos so bought it
No 32GB in the UK
I have been looking for the 32GB version for a while. I called the Samsung shop in Westfield Stratford in London. They confirmed that their are no time frame for the 32GB version to come to the UK. They said they were hoping to get the 4G version for the 16GB near Christmas.
I finally bought a 32GB us version for £460 on Ebay, the seller was american but the tablet was already in the UK so no extra import duty on top
The only issue I had so far is that it seem watch on refuse any UK post code to be set up as it seems it wants a US post code. Otherwise I had no other issues.

I use Folder Mount on my 16GB Galaxy S4 (9GB free to begin with) and it works pretty well. I have more games installed than what you could fit on a 32GB Galaxy S4. Redirecting that /obb/ folder really helps a lot with big games.
I also use Folder Mount on my 32GB Note 10.1 (2014). I have 20GB free space with quite a few games installed. I would probably be almost out of space if I wasn't using Folder Mount.
Folder Mount + $50 64gb mem card = winning
On a side note (no pun intended), my 32GB Note shows total capacity as 32.00GB (like a true 32GB's actually) and 6GB is reserved for system memory, compared to the reported 4GB reserved on the 16GB Note.

So what does Folder Mount let you do? Move games onto SD card?
I'm not able to download or test the app yet but will download and test it tomorrow.

Screen Protection for Canadians

I live in Canada and many of the screen protectors that are being reviewed online are not available for purchase since they do not ship here. Anyone from Canada have any good recommendations? Considering Spigen's Neo Flex but it's out of stock at the moment. Thanks

G Color is pretty good. However I ended up switching it out for the NeoFlex because I screwed up the installation of the G Color one lol.
Also G Color came with a free clear case. Not the best quality, but still it was nice of them to throw that in.

I got the Whitestone Dome one and it's amazing. But not shipping to Canada just yet. I got it because I live on the border and had it shipped to a US address I can use. You guys will love it when you can get it.

Exactly. I had the ClearPlex one from Best Buy but took it off because it felt terrible.
I picked up a glass screen protector from a store in Hamilton as I needed something as I was going out that night paid 40 and it was crap lol I thought it was ok at first but it felt almost like that plastic screen on an OtterBox defender case. I switched cases today and it just came off the phone and I'm glad it did lol. I think I will just go with a case and no screen protector and hope for the best as it seems there are no good curved glass screen protectors for the s8+

haha I agree with you there, but with such limited selection to choose from, it makes it difficult.. especially since pretty much all of the ones I've seen have horrible reviews.
But I NEED a screen protector on my phone! I usually upgrade my phone every 6 months - 8 months and I always sell my previous device.

It's not terribly bad and it is nice and clear. But it doesn't feel as good as glass. If your interested in it you can probably go to Best Buy and I'm sure one of the workers would have a phone with it on that they'd let you look at and touch.

US Pre-order Thread

I pre-ordered the OnePlus 8 Pro with 12 GB RAM + 256 GB Storage in UltraMarine Blue. Along with my pre-order I got OnePlus Bullets Wireless Earbuds and a OnePlus Warp Charge 30 WireLess Charger, both free. Apparently I was lucky to get my pre-order in early because I read that they sold out within 10 minutes. If the phone is as good as I expect it to be, I'll be selling my S20 Plus 5G on Swappa.
I couldn't get my order in the ridiculous OnePlus 2 minute online out of stock window...

The preorder was a disgrace! I had one in my cart and then it wasnt available. It was 9:02am PST - Oneplus probably lost my business over this, especially without mmwave...

It wasn't a pre-order, it was a limited launch with extras, don't be mad you weren't quick enough

So far the phone is blazing fast. That wireless charger is absolutely amazing. You can see a huge difference in the screen compared to the OP7 Pro, as well as overall speed. My phone was delivered yesterday (April 17th).
Well here's my launch day story...... After watching the launch day event, counting down the minutes, then seconds, on launch day, I ordered my first OnePlus device! This is, IMHO, the best, fastest, most advanced device ever created. I got the Ultramarine 12/256, wireless charger and ear buds and even included the 24 month extended warranty. Wow, was I excited! Unfortunately, it has turned into a nightmare. The order still shows "Transaction in Processing" after I was told by my bank the payment was canceled by OnePlus! Not only am I being told that I missed out on the launch day promotion, but I am not able to pay for the order still processing! I am really disappointed in the whole process and really hope OnePlus can fix this. I am sure items may be out of stock, but I am willing to wait as long as it takes to get this device. Please help! The op called it a pre-order so I went with it and i was on top of it, actual stock must have been really low...
Pre-ordered UltraMarine Blue 12/256. Excited as much as I was for the 6, 6T, 7Pro. A bit more pricey than usual (of course) but hopefully it's a justified increase.

Stay on them with this. If it were me I'd be arguing that I deserve the launch box (items at least) when this is worked out. No way would I rest until I got what I felt I deserved or they just flat out denied it continuously. Wish you the best here.
I managed to get mine yesterday, now I just have to be patient for development ?
I'm interested in buying a one plus 8 pro. I enjoy a crisp screen and a good camera. I like my pixel 4 xl but the screen seems dull.
Is anyone coming from a pixel 4 xl to the 8 pro? How are the camera images

Hey sorry for a bit off topic, but I've read different things regarding screen protector..... Is there a pre applied protector? Some people said there was a protector included in the paperwork, but not applied.
Thanks!

I'm debating doing the same thing. I think I'll need to see how good GCam is before I either order locally or get it shipped over here.

Scratch that, the 2 in the box aren't screen protectors. I'm talking to OP support and they said unless you add one to your order you only get a pre-applied one. Lucky for me, I also don't have a pre-applied one.

Oh wow that's a shame. With the pre applied one, we at least get time to find a good one like Whitestone dome, etc.
There wasn't one to order anyway. I get mine tomorrow so we'll see. Thanks for the update

You should all appreciate being abke to order and receive you 8 P outside of the US. Not only are we later without anything free stuff, we are having to deal with idiots working for OnePlus who don't know their A__ from a whole in the ground.
I tried both the chat online and calling on a phone. The latter didn't really know enough where and how to purchase over here, but the online people were total idiots.
A lot of it is beaning able to speak English - but not understand it. If they are going to sell now overpriced phones, I think it is reasonable to expect competent service. Compared to Samsung and others - they live on a different planet.
Sale date changed from 8 days away, to 2 days away!!
Exactly what version of the 8 Pro will we be getting - the global ?
Gotta love it. I love in NY. Shipped from NJ yesterday. For some reason it's in Tennessee now. WTF? Still says I'm supposed to get it tomorrow
