How's the fingerprint sensor working for you? - Elephone P8000

Mine rarely gets it from start, and the usual ratio is 60/40 or even worse.
Which made me ask myself: while setting up the fingerprint, is it better to slightly move around the finger (the unorthodox way), or to keep it as fixed as possible (as per instructions)?
I only have the device for two days, but I will test this and report back the results. For now, the fingerprint system seems crappy and on its way to be declared next to useless.

What ROM version are you on, apparently the latest ROM is better.
I haven't tested it yet, I will do later today and report back

You are blessed. As I write this, I have six concurrent ”profiles” on the same finger. It still doesn't work from the first try.

strange, for me it really works without Problems.
maybe you do not have finger, hehe

on 8/10 it work's by the first try..
Rom is P8000_20150815
best regards

When a new fingerprint is set you need to touch the sensor ten times more or less. You just need to press the sensor in ten slightly different ways trying to record the full surface of your finger. As soon as I set my fingerprint this way I noticed that the smartphone unlock system performance was much better.
Hope it helps.

Thank you guys for the input and tips.
I have tried everything you suggested (and more), but to no avail.
Either my device has a crappy sensor, or I simply have some impossible fingerprints.

You could try flashing eragon, the fingerprint scanner works almost flawlessly for me after I switched roms.

I'm not glad with the sensor. But this can also be an effect of my really dry skin.
Only 25% success. :crying:

Until Eragon 4.0,I didn't use the fingerprint sensor.
It simply does refused to work most of the time. But since I flashed Eragon 4.0, it's make fun to use the fingeprint feature:
It works for me 3 out of 4.
We all have to be thankfull and cheer to skeleton1911, for his great work.
Cheers
P.S.: I heard rumours about, that he is not against donations.

For me I'd say it get my finger 70% of the time, in the first try. It used to be worse at about 50/50, but the latest update has made the situation better. But still it can be frustrating at times so I ended up disabling the fingerprint unlock.
I'd say that the problem is the small detection area. Elephone had so much space in the back yet they chose a very small scanner

Before I moved to the Eragon roms my sensor was very hit and miss and slow to unlock even if it read the print. Since moving to Eragon v3 (and now up to v4) it is almost 100% reliable and quick to unlock.

I have found the the fingerprint sensor works better in Eragon 3.5+, than in the stock ROM. However it is still mostly worthless. A couple of my fingers it gets first try around 80% of the time. The others can take many attempts before the phone will unlock.
Ergonomically, the sensor is not in a position that your finger naturally falls to. Getting your finger in to a position to achieve a good reading takes a bit of contortion, and as the phone doesn't have the safest of grip at the best of times, there is a good chance you could drop it whilst trying to unlock with your finger print!
I have a pebble watch, and use the android smart lock feature, so I rarely need to use the finger sensor.

My fingerprint works better than ever with iPhone 5s.
So for me very good, thanks for eragon ROM

Mine always works unless my finger is wet
i am on eragon 4.0 (based on stock rom)

on the Stock ROM 20151014 also worked without problems

[Q] Proximity sensor ruining my life

Hello everyone! I have been having literally the worst two weeks trying to get the proximity sensor on my Note II to behave consistently. The sensor does not provide any feedback to the system. Using Android Sensor Box just returns the "No change detected yet" message. I am seriously at wit's end with this. I tried starting over and flashing stock using Odin but it doesn't seem like the kernel is at all affected through that and does not provide reliable results. Sometimes I can flash a stock kernel and the sensor works, but as soon as I either flash a different ROM or flash a different kernel, I am not able to use the sensor. I do not believe it to be the hardware because I have tried two different assemblies with the sensor on it to no avail. Is there anyone that could help? (And yes, I have searched high and low for any kind of guidance on this) I really like this phone, but this is definitely a deal breaker.
Firstly what are you trying to do with the proximity sensor, that is not working for you? Auto brightness, or one of the samsung touchless features?
Thank you for replying. What queued me into the fact that it wasn't working was that my screen does not turn off when I put the phone up to my face during a call. But it doesn't work for any purpose. If it's of any help, the light sensor also does not work, so I'm not able to use things like auto-brightness either.

What type of Rom/kernels are you flashing that makes it stop working? AOSP or touchwiz?
Have you tried several, all with the same result?
You're saying that it does work when you run stock as well?

Both, I've tried using Perseus, Neak, SOAPKernel and of course stock. The ROM does not matter either, I really intend to use PAC-man RC1 Milestone, but right now I am using the Stock ROM and it is still not working.

I have definitely flipped the flash counter, but there's always Triangle Away right? I'm actually totally screwed because I busted my screen a while back and replaced it and the one I got was for an International phone. I guess I could try a third sensor? This is bad news

You may have damaged it during the screen swap, or it could maybe just be loose or shorting, which is why occasionally it will work.

Okay so my mind is officially blown. Replaced the sensor with a new one and still not getting any feedback from either sensor. I really still do think it's something about the kernel, but because I have limited knowledge of these things, I am probably not the best person to diagnose the issue
The issue is definitely that the sensor just does not turn on, which is odd because the camera works. I found a thread with some proximity sensor calibration stuff but it is a bit over my head.

I find that strange though if you have tried several, all with the same issue
i am having the same issue, except tha also notification led will not work on stock roms but it will work on cm roms.
So, just a conclusion on this issue. I decided to just transplant the sticker from the original screen I had and exchange this phone using its warranty. When I was preparing the phone to return to the device support center, when I flashed back to stock and had already Triangle Away'd, the sensor did turn on and was recognized in the *#0*# diagnostic screen, but it still did not turn the screen off during calls and Motions were still not functioning. So, ultimately, no real solution in my case.
:good:
Easy FIX!!!!!
I took a can of compressed air and blew it through the top earpiece grill a few times and Voila, it works great now!!
I actually used a Old perfume can which perfume was over and it was only pressing Gas OFF!! :good::good::good:

Problem with fingerprint scanner

Hi all,
It seems there is some issue with my OP3's fingerprint scanner. When I register a finger, it works fine for 2-3 days and after that it stops recognizing it. When I re-register my fingers, all works good for 2-3 days and then same problem. It was working fine earlier, facing this from around a month. Can anybody suggest what is causing this ?
PS: I'm on OxygenOS 3.2.8 rooted with systemless xposed. I've tried clean flash of firmware, still same.
Exactly the same
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs
Haven't had that issue, but it sounds like a software problem, so relax, its fixeable, you could try Nougat beta or wait for OTA (it should be here before december ends), it might work fine there
No issues here. Had same fingerprints on it since OB7 came out. Currently on OB7 with systemless root and no Xposed.
If you live in cold climate it's obvious to have that phenomenon. Wait for the summers to come and it'll work perfect again.
Reason: due to our skin changes in summer
A help: don't keep your fingers dry for long. Use some cream or oil to maintain the skin health (especially of the thumb)
It may seem silly but do you clean your fps often? I clean lt many times per day because of weather or just because of dirty hands

Fingerprint sensor is unsecure??? Sister got into my phone

I'm actually ok with its performance but my sister was able to get into my phone with her thumb... We compared our thumbs and while the general shape is the same there are clear noticeable differences between them. Anyone else had this kind of problem before and Is there a way to fix this?
What rom are you using?
I suggest you try with other peoples' fingers to see if this is just a coincidence.
Other people's fingers don't work and out of 10 tries she can get in about twice and that's only if she uses the top half of her finger. I'm going to try it on other phones to see of its just a coincidence but I mean it should be able to tell the difference surely?

Clean the fingerprint sensor. Remove any fingers you've stored in it, and add them again and then see if it unlocks.
I've had cases of this happening with my OnePlus 3 and my old Galaxy S6.

Is the fingerprint scanner better than on the Mi5s?

I picked up a secondhand Mi5s recently and the fingerprint scanner is terrible. I've read dozens of threads that suggest various fixes, but nothing consistently helps. It only unlocks the phone one in five attempts, at best. Sometimes I'll try a dozen times and still have to use the PIN.
Can someone advise whether the Mi6's scanner is an improvement? I've heard it's not as fast as others, but does it unlock every time?

Touch screen issues

I've had Honor 7x for about a week now and I love the phone. I experience no lags or any other issues except one. Touch screen sometimes acts up and is not responsive and sometimes I have to touch the same spot like two or three times to get it to work and it's so frustrating.
The only way that I'm able to make it work well as it should again is by restarting the phone, and then it's all good until next day or so.
Have you guys noticed the same symptom?

Short Answer For Me.. No.
Are you still within your return period ? Swap it out for a new one.. and see if it's any better.
If Not... Sell It.
Didnt have any issue as such..
Get it checked..
I am having the same issue now I believe. Phone worked great for about two weeks then started having screen issues. I have to push a little harder and slower than normal or touches don't want to register. The buttons along the bottom and the pull down menu at the top of the screen seem especially bad. A reboot clears it right up for a time. I'm past the return period so I have to send it in for a warranty repair. Were you able to get the issue resolved with your phone? I'm a little worried with it being a sort of intermittent issue they won't be able to reproduce the issue and won't fix it.
Yes it is buggy !

Hi,
Yes, I'm also facing the same issue and thinking that removing the tempered glass may help.
Also, there are lags and lack of responsiveness in this device time to time and I don't feel it as a Hardware issue. Its just that if you are not used to clearing out apps from recents, unlike 90 percent of the other users and if you ever felt the phone's hardware/software competent enough to handle those by itself and at the same time, maintaining the performance, then you are wrong.
Now after a good 2 months of usage, I can say that we will have to wait for a slim pure AOSP rom for this device to please us. Its not at all a balanced device and indeed its a total flop. I feel no joy( and sometimes want to throw it on the wall also) in using it now because of these 3 issues :
1. Time to time lag/hanging - due to not clearing recents frequently - Since I do not believe it is really required for a phone with 4GB ram and Kirin, equal to SD 652 processor. My OP2/ Mi Max and all others used to be much much better than this piece of sh**.
2. Touch not snappy and feels like less responsive for a fast user. May be perfectly fine for the one's using it in a relaxed way.
3. Notification quick reply screen timeout because of not recognising it as an active function.
- From a quite unhappy first time honor user !
I got in touch with customer service and they advised me to factory reset it.
After that phone actually felt better with no issues.
However, I was still within the 15 day return window and I didn't want to take the chance, I sent it back and bought another one.
With the new phone all I can say is that I love the phone. No touch screen issues, no lag what so ever, it is extremely fast and even after I cranked it up with apps it didn't get any slower. I can say that it's faster than my broken Nexus 6p.
Love it
Glad you got a new one sadly I missed my return window. I tried a factory reset and only installed a podcast app different from the one I normally use and actually Uninstaller a few factory apps like Facebook, Instagram and couple Google apps docs and sheets. Still had the issue after some use. Always seems to happen after 20-30 minutes of phone calls. I have contacted support and will most likely be sending it in. I'm getting the b140 update as I type this and the change log says "Performance optimization changes has been included in the current software" so maybe that will fix it. What are the odds. Is it hardware is it software I don't know but I would think if it were hardware a reboot wouldn't make the issue go away for a while but that's probably flawed logic. Also I'm using the US variant (L24) 32gb/3gb.

This seems to have resolved my issue also. Thanks for the tip!
Since it seems software related, and I imagine this 'feature' is to detect whether you 'meant' to touch the screen or not, it would make sense that this is potentially the problem. In my case especially, I would describe the issue as it seems like my screen falls asleep if I take too long between interactions.
Edit: this actually didn't resolve the issue

Unfortunately after further testing the issue persists. Most noticeable in clash of clans, Facebook, Snapchat, other slightly higher resource usage apps.

got my phone more than 15 days ago, issue started becoming more prevalent this past week. notably when i'm playing rhythm games (lol). thought ir was the tempered glass screen protector but its now happening with a film/wet application protector. i can't replicate it consistently either. would be interested in updates, this is really frustrating.

I still haven't received an email response, however if you go to the site via mobile you are presented with a live chat option during their business hours (listed on the site https://www.hihonor.com/us/support/index.html). I used that to arrange the repair return for the phone. They don't simply replace it which is kind of frustrating, so I guess it's back to my trusty nexus 5 for a week or two. ?

i've done some looking around -- i know this thread is much older than the recent UI update, but it looks like the most recent update has messed up the touch sensitivity completely. loads of people are complaining on the hihonor forum. hoping this'll be something they can fix with a patch.
really hoping that i won't have to send it in, this is a replacement for my old phone since the charge port was completely shot. so i'd have to buy a new phone anyway...
thanks for the update, hope this all gets fixed soon!
This appears to be related to the most recent update. That is when it started becoming more of an obvious issue.
Oreo will fix this surely... I had same but now its fixed ?
Touch sensitivity
I'm having the same issue, my screen touch is not sensitive I used to have moto g4 it's been a couple of yrs since I bought it even that screen touch sensitivity is better than this. But overall features camera screen everything is good except the touch sensitivity, I need to click everything a couple of times to respond and even while texting I'm missing out some letters. BTW I won't use any screen guard or tampered glass and it's been a week since I'm using honor 7x.Apart from the screen sensitivity issue I'm damn satisfied with the product.
Thanks,
Aditya

I can also confirm that this is a software issue and is resolved by the Oreo update (currently beta, link below), at least for my case of ghost taps registering on different parts of the screen than what I am actually touching. I've been running Oreo for a week now and this is definitely the phone I was hoping for when I bought it :good: I've been emailing details regarding this issue with a member of their beta support team and it has been relayed to development. Hopefully they can/will release a hotfix for nougat in the meantime.
Oreo is currently in beta. The forum post regarding beta enrollment :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/how-to-beta-test-emui-8-0-oreo-based-t3757323
I used to have similar problems, particularly when I try to scroll by sliding it would actually open the link if there is one where I first touched. Also writing was difficult on SwiftKey, it would jump over and behaved as if I hit enter.
I joined oreo beta and upgraded yesterday, all these problems seem to have disappeared. Fingers crossed, will wait and see a few more days.
