Amazon Fire controller 2 with Nvidia Shield TV? - Shield Android TV Accessories

Is this possible? Seems it was previously but I have had no luck so far. Its a Bluetooth controller and should in theory, have no problems, yet its not.
Could this be something resolved in Marshmallow? Or is it a non starter altogether?
Just want some multiplayer action, have a shield controller already and had a fire TV 4k with pad as well.
Thanks in advance

Well that was easy. Turns out the fire controller 2 is WiFi and not Bluetooth. It connects like a charm as a Shield accessory and plays games as it should.
So if anyone, like me reads this and has been struggling like a fool (that was me the past hour) to connect it, its WIFI not Bluetooth. Connect this and a FireTV 2 remote as a shield accessory and away you go.
Edit - voice search also works, which I had seen people stating you most it, or couldn't pair the AFTV voice remote with the Shield TV because of it. Just press and hold and works as it does on the fire box.

Thats actually pretty dope to learn! i havent played with a fire tv controller 2 yet but just seeing the images online it looks like a high quality, sturdy controller. Would be interesting to see how well it performs, and the fact that it works natively with the shield is even more interesting and better. wonder if nvidia just updated the firmware to allow it to work or if they just so happen to use the same protocols?
couple of questions: is the button layout the same? does headphone jack work as well?

The headphone jack doesn't work. Just tried with Borderlands and it works, though with some lag on the Shield controller but not the Fire 2 controller.
Every other button functions perfectly though, including clicking in the anologues. As a second player pad, and with the useful voice search function, its pretty cool that I got it connected. Could not find any help online at all.

Thats awesome man. Thanks for the heads up! Would love to see anyone else chime in to confirm before i consider the plunge on a controller, but its always nice to have another type of gamepad available. Wonder if latency is the same, but I assume since its wifi, it shoudl be at least as good as the shield controller.
Do you know if this works with a pc as well? (via usb of course)

Won't work on PC, not with USB anyway as its not there lol. Surprised me too.
Latency seems on par with stock controller. Been playing Fifa 16 UT for a while and won every game, so no issues with the pad.
I too would like others to test this as I couldn't get any help online and cane across it by chance.

has anyone tried the new apple r emoe does it work?
how do you past the settings menu on the fifq 16 android on the shiled. do you need mouse input?

My problem is that once it connects I lose all audio.
The headphone Jack not working is a real bummer too.

Fifa 16 UT does this game even work? i cant get past main menu

Has anyone tested it on the new 6.0 Marshmallow build?

I managed to connect the Fire TV game controller on StockRestyle Marshmallow, but I cannot get the Fire TV 4K remote to work.
Which version of the Shield TV firmware are you using?
Do you need to press a specific button on the Fire TV remote? I tried Home and the OK buttons (I indeed tried all of them), removing the batteries without any success.
EDIT: I tried a second Fire TV 4K, first try: press Home -> success Thanks

If that would be working, including the voice search function, that would be great because shield game controllers aren't working wireless on full Android.

I'm having major problems connecting my Amazon Controller 2 to my Shield K1 Tablet.
I go to the app and open it up. The 3 or 4 lights flash on the controller and then solidify. At which point the mouse cursor appears and I can move it around and - if I press home, the app closes.
But at that stage the controller starts searching again, the lights flash.
I've tried holding down the home button, I've tried putting the batteries in only once the apps open. No luck.
The controller works beautfully with my amazon fire tv box.
Anyone want to give me step by step instructions?

[Q] Amazon Fire TV + XBMC -> CEC functionality in detail ?

Hey guys,
I just pre-ordered an Amazon Fire TV here in Germany and I have a specific question for which I didn't find an answer yet. Everybody is saying that the AFTV has basic CEC functionality. I just wanted to know what this means in detail? Which keys are working and which are not? I heard that the arrow keys and the OK/select key are working. But what about the back, the home and the multimedia buttons (play/pause etc.)? I would be very glad if someone could answer this question (espacially with a Sony Bravia TV).
Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward for an answer.

I would like to know that too. I have a Samsung tv and the only cec function I can see fire tv performing is when I wake the device up from sleep it automatically shifts my tv from cable to fire tv screen and turns on the sound system if its off. But nothing on the TV remote works.

I'm pretty sure play/pause worked for me. But I just got a FLIRC. Much better and more flexible.
Not working for me. Panasonic TV.
with pi it works perfectly...
actually the TV DO recognize there's a hdmi CEC supported device but none of the buttons do something
Tested on Sanyo TV designed for use with roku.
Directions and media buttons work.
Back works (but brings up roku qr overlay)
the Exit button also functions as Back.
Hey,
My FireTV is connected to my Onkyo TX-NR626 amp and from there to my LG TV, I can control the FireTV with the remote of the Onkyo and everything is working, select, back, directions, play, pause, and skip
But you have to enter a code for a RIHD (CEC) enabled device on the remote, the code is 31612 if I'am not wrong
The only thing that is not working is you can't wake up the FireTV out of the standby
Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
Sony Bravia Sync
Tested on an old KDL55-W4000!
Sony calls its CEC compatibility "Bravia Sync". With "Bravia Sync" activated, the following commands work via my TV's remote: Play, Stop, Back-Button, Forward, Rewind, Direction-Keys and Enter ...
With the Sony-Command "Sync Menu", the TV checks for connected devices at HDMI ports and even activates the FireTV from sleep-mode ... If the FireTV is activated, the same button "Sync Menu" opens the Options in FireTV (e.g. skipping to next episode or language selection)
Unfortunately, the only button not yet found by now via CEC, is the "HOME" button. By that button missing, you might get stucked, e. g. in the youtube app for FireTV, because the Back-Button does not go back to main menu of FireTV but stays in the YouTube-App and shows the Search-Site ...
If anyone has a Sony-TV, sending a "HOME"-command via CEC, please contact me, so I can properly set up my Harmony to send the command on my Sony-TV, too (sometimes, not all commands the tv is capable of, are buttons on the remote ... let's give it a try).
Hope, that has helped someone ... Please get back to me, if "Home" is available. Otherwise, I will not use YouTube-App
I don't know anything about CEC on other platforms. I just got a Fire TV two days ago.
I was very happily surprised when my TV's remote (Sony Bravia 47") worked on the Fire. My Girlfriend grabbed the TV remote as we were setting the fire up, and many of the commands were mapped to Sony remote buttons. Since I had cloned the remote to my Universal Remote URC20, it also works. I can create macros and treat the Fire TV like it has an IR remote. Very handy functionality.
All I have done is navigation, backward, forward, select, etc. Of course, you need the Fire remote for voice control.
Someone in another thread said that Samsung TVs didn't run commands back through HDMI. So, obviously ot depends on TV manufacturer.
On my LG TV, CEC is not working. In fact when Fire TV is connected CEC is not working for any device connected to the TV.
I had no problem with a rasberry PI used before I got the Fire TV.

Hmm. What year is the TV? My 2013 LG remote has no problem with the Fire TV.
Cec is a pita for me and my lg 55ub8500, it works fine if you have the TV on and then power the firetv on.. But if you have the firetv on and power on the TV.. It's a no go until you restart the ftv. Would be ok I'd the ftv would turn off but mine stays on like 24/7.
If your lg TV is new (2014) turn on simplink in the menus and setup your hdmi port to be a denon Avr(or any device that supports cec, not all do) and it should work

Same on my 2013 Sony TV, the remote's HOME button functions as Android's MENU button, whilst the remote's OPTIONS button does nothing. Shame, so close to being perfect. Still hoping the Fire TV will get a working root and that we can change the HDMI-CEC options that way.
I just bought a Noname 40" TV (Hisense LTDN40D36SEU) and was really surprised that it supports CEC quite well!
Nav, OK, Play, Pause, < Skip > and even Stop (! Not even on the Fire TV Remote itself) are working perfectly.
Just hoping to find a way to get Home and Context working. As theres a way to go to a Developer-Page on the TV, even with dumping firmware Option, im optimistic to get it fixed one day. Or, even better as Spence1115 said, hopefully Someday Root on the FireTV and a way to change it over here.
i had conflict on my samsung smart tv 2014 when connecting the AFTV it also played havoc with my receiver so i have decided to use a cec less adaptor and it worked a treat just in case anyone wanted to know and if they get conflicts (mine was connecting and disconnecting all my devices randomly)
Hi.
I just got a LG 42lb5600 and I can't even see the simplink option.
No buttons work on the fire.
Is there a firmware update or something I can do?
I hope that one day we will get the ability to program certain key presses through CEC on the Fire TV. Works great with sideloaded Kodi on my fireTV Stick but sadly no context or home functionality.

[Q] Voice commands on Fire TV?

I'm thinking about buying the Fire TV as the hardware is amazing for the money.
Now I don't often watch movies and such, so my plan is to turn the device into a home automation center, using the mic in the remote and maybe a combination of utter! and Tasker to do different things like turning on a remote control outlet using ssh and a raspberry pi or just turning on and off a Phillips Hue.
Will those things be doable in the near future?

In theory anything is *possible*. But as of now, no one has hooked in to the microphone handling. I wonder how the remote presents itself if paired to a normal Linux computer as far as bluetooth capabilities.
Is it then possible to connect the fire TV with another mic, in case the builtin one is not usable for my goal? Also, are Tasker and utter! running fine on the fire TV?

If we are talking about using AOSP, whatever is possible on a regular Android device would be possible here. No clue about Tasker.
Yes, if it was running pure AOSP, I would not have had to ask. I've seen that you are the one trying to get AOSP run on the Fire TV, so I would like to know how the chances are that we get functional AOSP on the Fire TV before March next year. Either way, thanks for working on that.

I just set up my Amazon Fire TV this past weekend. Unfortunately, the Nyko BluWave IR remote for PS3 does not work. I plugged it into the USB port on my Fire TV and went into settings - the dongle does not even show up as a connected device. I also mashed some of the buttons on the remote itself to see if anything would happen. Unfortunately, nothing happened when I tried any of the buttons for the Nyko.
I actually got a chance to try it with mine (found it in a box in the basement that wasn't unpacked since we moved)
Pressing the directional parts of the ring, and center worked for me, but nothing else.

read this a few weeks ago and just found the dongle for mine in drawer. the only buttons that worked for me were the directional buttons . the center button did not work. maybe my button is broken. or perhaps I'm on a different firmware version. if it mimics the buttons of a playstation controller perhaps they can be remapped? not sure how to go about doing that.
I also found a generic usb to infarad adapter.
I plugged it into the firetv and when I use certain remotes the receiving light on the device lights up.

[Q] Input lag with SNES emulator?

Hey all,
So I got SNES9x EX+ sideloaded and booting up just fine. Loaded up some games and was playing away. Something felt off and I noticed that there is just a tiny bit of input lag from button press to game. Has anyone else experienced this?
I am using the Amazon game controller or whatever it's called, if that matters. Wasn't sure if this was a known issue, or do I need to edit/change anything?

Excellent news, I'll give that a shot, thank you for the reply.
I've had inconsistent lag with a MOGA Bluetooth controller, both on my phone and on my FireTV stick. Sometimes it's spot on, but then other times the lag will get me killed. Old school gaming does not work well with any input lag. I'm glad I read this before buying the Amazon controller.
Now I wonder if I'll find a way to get the XBOX controller to work on the FireTV stick...

Yah it's kind of strange... Other games seem to work just fine with the controller (and I kind of like the controller). Mostly have played the Sev Zero seems to work just fine with no input lag, felt like just playing any other system, but SNES 9x EX+ or whatever just didn't work well with it.
Hoping to try out the Receiver + 360 controllers today and verify no input lag as someone had suggested.

I have an xbox360 controller with usb receiver and am getting about 1-2 second lag on keypress. I use the same controller and receiver on my pc and there's no lag. Both are official MS products. I found this thread because I was looking to see if the amazon controller showed similar lag with an snes emulator (Snes9x Ex+). Looks like OP is having the same issue I have with the FireTV controller, but it looks like you aren't having the problem with my same setup, unless you're using 3rd party.
Did you do anything special, or just plugged it in and all was well?
I have both the Nyko playpad and the Xbox 360 wireless receiever. I have noticed lag using both controllers (on most emulators). Playing around with the refresh rate settings in the emulator seemed to help some. Changing the refresh rate to 60 worked the best. Disabling any TV motion effect (120hz or greater) for your Fire TV input also helps, but I don' think the lag is completely eliminated. I'm interested to see if anyone else has ideas/input. It doesn't seem like a controller issue.

The 360 controller + receiver definitely improved for me over the Amazon game controller, but there is still a tiny bit.. I'll try messing around with some settings as well that were mentioned in this thread.
Super Mario World was way more playable though, with the 360 controller + receiver.

Interesting. My controller and dongle are both official microsoft products, but I don't have a hub. Is your hub powered? Also, what emulator? I'm mainly interested in SNES at the moment and am using SNES9x EX+
With my DS4 controller it will work beautifully for about 5 minutes then I would get massive input lag .. like minute delays making it absolutely useless .. it also makes my firetv remote useless .. as if the Bluetooth reciever is absolutely jammed up. I have to restart or disconnect controller and wait 5-10 minutes before I can use any bluetooth devices ... soo uhh if you have input lag maybe try a non bluetooth controller
Has anyone else experienced this?
Yep definitely lagging the system with the Xbox 360 dongle. I have to unplug the dongle to make the system stable again.
i have the same probleme here on Fire TV Stick with Bluetooth controller! Is there a workaround or any news??
Perhaps we could write a bugreport to amazon?
I also agree with esdouble, but the thinking of my way the RetroArch emulator is one of the best emulator.
I only came to this thread researching if the Amazon Fire TV controller was any better than my Stratus XL which constantly has input lag issues when playing SNES 9X on my Fire TV 3 Gen which I see is no better.

I was gonna make the same post a few days ago, but then I realized my TV remote does everything the other way through CEC. Arrows, OK, Play, Pause, Next, Skip, Exit all work through CEC on the Fire Stick in all apps. Just no voice.
Still interested in this too tho, just in case.

My fire remote is way more responsive. This way would be preferable for me
I understand. I was just trying to give you the best response I could. If I could use the FireTV remote like this, I would do it too. (makes an ok controller for SNES RPGS)
There is the sideclick which I think amazon makes too. Attaches to you remote and gives you ir tv control
