Will I lose any lte band support if I convert to tmobile?

Yes, flashing T-Mob US (I assume you mean US, since you are talking AT&T) firmware or RUU will change band support, and you will lose some LTE bands.
According to the specs on GSMarena, with the T-Mob firmware, you will have support for LTE bands 4 and 17; and will lose support for 2, 5, and 7.
What bands do you need, and what carrier are you using?

Just flashing the ROM, you won't change the band support.
But again, I'm curious what carrier you are actually using the phone on?

Should work fine.
Being on T-Mob US, and using AT&T radio baseband (part of the firmware that determines band support) should be fine for the most part. Reason I say this is:
1) ATT radio supports the same LTE bands as the T-Mob radio (4 and 17), and then some.
2) ATT radio is missing HSPA (3G) Band 4 (AWS). This used to be the band most widely used by T-Mob for 3G. But my understanding, is that they are well underway in migrating 3G service to 1900 MHz (Band 2) which is supported by the ATT radio.
3) The only "negative" to staying on the ATT radio, that I can see, is that if you happen to be in area where T-Mob is still using AWS for 3G , and you don't have LTE service in that area, either. In that instance, your data will drop down to EDGE (2G). I don't really have an idea of how widespread this situation may be; but I have a feeling its relatively small.

Yea thats why I got an unlocked ATT m8 instead of a tmobile one for the extra lte bands. I have yet to run into band 2 lte and all the aws hspa has been reused for lte. Luckily.

Will LTE 1700Mhz work on HSDPA+ 1700MhZ

So I heard LTE is backwards compatible with GSM and HSDPA + My carrier supports AWS band 4. Will this work? Has anyone tried it?
So you're basically asking if the AT&T Optimus G will work with T-mobile's 4G Network, right? The answer is NO. Or at least not by default. That's because, even though the phone has the correct band (1700/2100), you would still need the correct radio to be able to use that specific frequency (again 1700/2100) with your carrier. Much like the AT&T Galaxy Note I717. It supports the 1700 frequency, but in order to have that working band with Tmobile, we had to flash a Tmobile specific baseband/radio from the Galaxy s2, Galaxy S Blaze 4G and/or Tmobile Galaxy Note to be able to use the phone on the 1700 freq. So in this case, Unfortunately, Tmobile won't be releasing the LG Optimus G, so there won't be any radios available to use. But, the LG NExus 4 actually has the exact hardware specs or SOC as the LG Optimus G, so a radio/baseband port might be possible.

Actually the two networks don't share the same GSM freq. Yes the AT&T LG Optimus G does have the AWS 1700 band in the hardware, but it is not enabled by default in the software. In order to enable the AWS 1700 freq, you'll need to use/flash the correct radio that carries the AWS 1700 freq. Like i said in the earlier post, one might be able to possibly port the a radio/baseband from the LG Nexus 4. Since it supports all pentaband frequencies.
So why would they disable it if the carrier uses 1700/2100 for LTE? I'm still not understanding its limitation

It's not that the 1700/2100 bands are disabled. They are very much enabled but the radio is set to use them for LTE.
So you are saying even though LTE is backward compatible the band installed is software limiting the hardware to only allow LTE 1700/2100?

LTE phones are backwards compatible because they support other bands for HSPA and GSM. For example, a carrier using 1700 MHz for LTE may use 850 and 1900 for HSPA but the 1700 will only work with LTE.

You somewhat got it. It is the same problem with AT&T's HTC ONE X. The phone as the 1700 band for LTE, but when used with Tmo it only picks up 2G using the 1900 GSM. But with Tmo merging with Metro PCS, and partnering with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Network, the H+ 1900 Spectrum will be available everywhere very soon. I read an article on tmonews.com that it should be done by the end of this year.
maybe the Canadian Telus version would work with T-Mo's AWS

Can't you flash an AT&T firmware on a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2 handset to get the necessary AT&T LTE Frequencies since the LTE radios on both AT&T's and T-Mobile's Note 2's are the exact same? Or is unlocking the Note 2 via T-Mobile more than enough to take advantage of AT&T's LTE Network?
Tread carefully, I'm currently trying to get my phone out of a rather nasty bootloop/corrupt IMEI situation after trying just that earlier today.
But I did get it to work, even pulled 35 Mbps on a speedtest.
Things went to hell after trying to revert back to the T889V modem. (In case I needed the AWS HSPA, for proof of concept and also warranty purposes).
so our phone's LTE modem is compatible with AT&T LTE bands? sweet.

Virgin Mobile Canada LTE SIM (previously confirmed working in an Galaxy S III), and yes the LTE icon showed up immediately, Speedtest says LTE too, and the speeds are way beyond what I had with HSPA in the same location.
Doesn't AT&T's LTE run on different frequencies; so will T-Mobile's Note 2 match with AT&T LTE Frequencies after flashing to AT&T's Firmware?

Tmobile's T889 supports LTE on AWS and 700 (band 17).
AT&T's i317 supports LTE on AWS, 700 (band 17) and also on 850 and 1900 (band 2).
So yes, our phone has the ability to work on SOME of AT&T's LTE network, but not all of it; it will just depend on which frequencies they're using in your area. I believe AWS and 700 are new for AT&T, so they're probably fewer and more between at the moment, whereas their current network is mostly 1900 and 850. Not sure what kind of upgrade they have to do to switch their old HSPA 1900 towers to LTE support.
Silly question, so is a tmobile note 2 capable of handling AT&T's LTE network on the 850 and 1900 bands; is this something controlled by software, or a hardware limitation, I thought the Qualcomm radios on the AT&T variant and tmobile variant were the same.

T-Mobile bands...

I'm VERY concerned about buying this phone now. T-Mobile have only listed LTE bands 4 & 17 on their site.

This is the perfect T-Mobile phone.
So the T-Mobile version does not have 1700, and is therefore identical to the other models? Do we know if it includes wifi-calling, or if we would be able to flash the T-Mobile ROM onto the unlocked dev version?

It does have 1700! That's Band 4, and for both LTE and HSPA.
The T-Mobile version also supports WiFi calling and texting. I have no idea if the T-Mobile firmware can be flashed to the unlocked version, but I don't see why it wouldn't be feasible.

T-Mobile (Des) confirmed: 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, and 17
AT&T lists: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, and 29 (adds +5 and +29)
HTC Dev & Unlocked versions (per HTC on Twitter): 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 29, 30 (adds +5, +13, +29, +30)
Maybe the T-Mo phone supports more that could be unlocked, who knows. The extra bands aren't useful to me.

HTC has done this on the past couple of phones. Only the T-Mobile phone will do their specific bands (HSPA+). On past models I don't recall anyone getting the ATT/DEV models to work with those T-Mobile bands. I don't believe we ever found out why. Some speculated it was due to cost to license all the bands, or that it is actually different hardware. The M7 and M8 were both like that.
If you are on T-Mobile, I'd get the model specifically for them.

Oh yeah I remember my Dev version being like that. Fortunately, I live in an area that has been upgraded to mostly lte. This was actually beneficial for me and maybe others in the same situation because it actually saves battery life when the phone isn't constantly switching between edge, 3g/+, and lte. I'm sure many others have been in an area that's barely out of lte but still within h+ range and it's still slow as edge or even slower.

Yes, it is OK if you live in a major area that has lots of LTE. Here just north of LA, I get into the other bands pretty frequently.
I am not sure this was answered? Do all versions of the HTC one m 9 support band 4 UMTS? Many ATT carrier unlocked models are for sale and no one seems to know if they will pick up the UMTS 1700 band 4 on T- Mo?

They will not pick up the T-Mobile specific bands, which use 1900/2100 for 41bps speed. They will work with the T-Mobile LTE band.
Wow, still a mystery. I have the AT&T SIM Unlocked One M9 and I have a TMobile prepaid SIM and get Edge, 3G, 4G, LTE Band 2,4,12...I cannot find an app that shows the actual WCDMA (4G) Bands ? But, it notates 42 MBPS when it says HSPA+ 4G using Network Signal Info-Pro App..and also shows 384 Kbps when it says 3G....
So, seems Des is correct unless the Network Signal Info Pro app is wrong?
I turned off everything except WCDMA, and this is what I get being reported by LTE Discovery. HSPA+ @ -113. I have a ATT unlocked M9. I do have the T-Mobile 2.11.531.19 firmware installed as well as the T-Mobile rom.

Thanks but as I mentioned I cannot find an App that shows the WCDMA Bands to confirm. As you can see even LTE Discovery says N/A for DL and UL Freq...when on WCDMA...
The only App I can see that helps is Network Signal Info Pro...and unfortunately it is limited and shows me the below in my market;
HSPA+ 42.2 MBPS
HSDPA 7.2 MBPS
UMTS 386 KBPS
But, does not indicate which Band or Frequency ?
Anyone know of an App or Command that will show WCDMA Bands???

Looking for a radio to get LTE band 2 on T-Mobile US

I have a T-Mobile branded M8 rooted, unlocked bootloader, and S-Off. I live out in the sticks and can only get 1900mhz LTE band 2 on my wife's S4 however, my M8 doesn't see band 2 because of the radio firmware.
Is there a radio firmware from another GSM M8 variant that I could flash to my T-Mobile branded M8 that would get me the 1900mhz LTE band 2?
Are you using the phone on a different carrier besides T-Mobile? If so, which carrier?
Also, Band 2 looks like its 1900 MHz, and band 4 corresponds to 1700 MHz (also known as AWS). So not clear which band you are looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks

That's really odd that the T-Mobile US variant doesn't include a band that T-Mob uses. But based on specs listed online, this is the case (doesn't support 1900 MHz Band 2 for LTE): http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_(m8)-6074.php
AT&T or Developer's Edition radios may be your best bet (AT&T uses 1900 for LTE).

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I was dumfounded when I found out a LTE capable phone I purchased from T-Mobile is not able to get LTE due to an unsupported band.

One guy mentions the AT&T radio would probably work but I would lose 3G connectivity in some areas. I'm going to have to look into that a little deeper.

That's right. It occurred to me that the AT&T version lacks the AWS band (Band 4, or 1700/2100MHz), which T-Mob uses for HSPA+ (3G) in many areas. Its somewhat of an oddball band, meaning its not used in many places aside from T-Mob US, so its pretty rare to have this built into any radio that is not specifically T-Mob.

What a PITA. Why didn't TMO just go ahead and put LTE Band 2 in the phone in the first place. They knew they were pushing LTE in that band so why handcuff their customers. You can't make this stuff up!
Thanks for the information you have provided. It really is eye-opening. I'm still in the buyers remorse period as far as this phone is concerned and could return it. The problem is I don't know what phone to get without spending twice the money at this point. That is unless I want to move of an iPhone (Boo!!).

I don't know for sure but there is a 2014 article on Phandroid that states the Developer Edition is basically an unbranded version of the AT&T phone. So logic would say that if the AT&T version doesn't support it then the Developer Edition wouldn't either.

That was my original understanding as well, and for the most part true. However, its been pointed out on XDA (and specs online agree) that the Dev Edition is missing LTE Band 7, which the AT&T version does support. A minor difference that won't affect most folks (AT&T doesn't use that band), but a difference nonetheless.

Switching Providers

I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and wondering if I need to flash the T-Mobile radio/firmware to get better signal. The phone is originally from AT&T so currently has their radio and firmware installed. Now that I'm on T-Mobile, do those need to be changed as well?

If you search around (I think the AT&T M8 section) its been discussed a couple times.
My takeaway, is that it isn't necessary to change the radio baseband in your case:
For LTE, the T-Mob version supports bands 4 and 17; both of which are already supported by your current AT&T radio (and then some).
For 3G, T-Mob uses 850 and 1900, again both of which are already supported by your current AT&T radio. The T-Mob version M8 also supports 3G on the AWS band (1700/2100). At one time, AWS was the predominant band T-Mob used for 3G, but not longer. My understanding, T-Mob refarmed all their AWS to use for LTE (Band 4); so 3G AWS support is no longer needed or useful.
Now all of the above is just my understanding from the comments on the forums; namely from an owner of the AT&T version M8 that is using his phone on T-Mob (plus device specs, carrier info online, etc.). I don't personally use T-Mob as my carrier.
