Can Le Pro 3 survive water test? =D - LeEco Le Pro3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your phone by doing this demonstration.
I am half-crazy/half-scared today and thought what kind of protection does my phone have? What if it rains and I want take a picture or video of a wonderful scene or event? What if I accidentally drop my phone on a puddle or in a sink filled with water? So without further ado, please watch this very short video that demonstrates the level of protection in the Le Pro 3.

IMHO, the phone may survive rainfall or quick dip in the water. The phone case may have helped as well. It feels good that our phone has this kind of protection when you need it. Again, I am not encouraging you to perform this test but just providing you some confidence that Le Pro 3 may survive accidental drop in or splash of the water.
P.S. The phone still works and I am still using it right after the test. No issue so far. =D

damn, that's to much of a risk.
I think for a sealed phone like this the most risk is the speakers.... I hope your speakers are functioning properly. I recommend doing a rice treatment just to be safe. Even if it looks okay for now, the moisture can sip in over time.

Or do an intensive benchmark so that heat will dissipate the moisture? I might do the rice trick later when I get home.

Quick update:
Phone still works 100%, even the speaker is as loud as before. And I did not do the rice trick yet. ^_^

You are great!!

I guess the Le Pro 3 has a typical IP53 certification but just not advertised.
P.S Phone still works 100%, now I am tempted to take it to the next level. =D

I would like to caution you one more time.
Most phones include a water damage sticker inside them, I think LP3 should also have one or two. Even if your phone works just fine, you might lose your warranty for future purposes, if those stickers get in touch of water.

Let's be realistic here, do you use your phone without a case at all? I don't, because it needs to be protected from scratches, bumps and fall (my daughter dropped it already 3.5 feet face down on cement floor).
The case was never designed to protect Le Pro 3 from water test like this but may have helped somehow because water will pass through case holes first before going into the phone itself.
I maybe crazy or careless but not wealthy LoL.

This is my first most-expensive phone I have bought. (I know some of you American/European guys might be laughing at me but living in a country where an 'honors post-grad' earns average 600$/month and being married, it is hard to actually dedicate half of my monthly salary for buying a phone). I don't regret buying it but I agree with your every bit.
Thank you for testing this phone's resilience and reliability for rainy weather. Although camera isn't top notch but it will work for a carry-around instant snapshot purpose. (My G3 still beats this phone in camera quality but I care less, I don't even use camera at all )

No problem, have you tried Google Camera App? It will bring the IQ to few notches up up to level of Galaxy S6 or iPhone 7. Yes iPhone 7 IQ is horrendous by comparison even with Nexus 5X.

Hey guys,
today I dropped some beer over my Le Pro 3 and I instantly cleaned it (sucked out the liquid out of the charging port and speakers etc.)
But then I got a reboot from my phone, it says I'm out of battery (it got 40% at this moment)..
After reboot, my home button doesn't work anymore, no vibration, no interaction or something else..
I tried to dry it through put it in a bag of rice, but after 3 hours it doesn't changed the situation.
I'm now very desperately about this, do you guys got any tips for me?
Or should I just send it back through my reseller to LeEco for a retail?
Thank you for reading and replying to me!
Greetz

You could try the old trick of leaving your phone in a bag of rice over night to pull out all the moisture.

You can try to clean the usb c port, patiently and with care, with something very moist that can melt the sugars and absorb/remove all the beer residues on the contacts. Then dry out the area with the help of an hairdryer and try to turn on or reset your phone from recovery, if it starts! Good luck!

How much water has your watch seen?

Curious to see how many people are taking their watches into pools, the shower, etc. I have yet to expose mine to water, but interested to do so because hey, that's one of the big perks of our watch compared to many of the other android wear watches, water proofing(as far as the limit allows). So what water has your smartwatch seen? If any.
I never take it off except to charge it really, so that includes daily showers and baths, swimming, jacuzzi at the gym and rain when out jogging. Cracking watch, I even dumped it in a pint down the pub to demonstrate its waterproofing to my mates, washed it off under the tap afterwards and all good

Dang holding up to all that pretty well huh? I'm surprised especially with the jacuzzi. How hot is that? Wondering if I would be okay in my hot tub.

Mine accidentally ended up in the Gulf of Mexico due to a little boating accident! It was not my intention to submerge it in salt water, but I dunked it in fresh water shortly after to get the salt off, all while powered on, and so far so good. Kind of surreal having a touch screen computer like this under water while powered on...very cool. I don't take it swimming, but being here on the Florida coast, it is definitely exposed to plenty of water, and no issues so far. I would be most concerned about chlorine/salt/etc damaging the charging port or rubber cover, so I always make sure I wash it well in clean fresh water after it's exposed at the pool or beach.
NOTE: It is NOT RATED FOR SALT WATER, so please don't try this with yours!
I've given my kids a bath with it on and it gets fully submerged. No issues so far. I've also wore it on a few very sweaty runs. I had to turn Theater mode on though since the screen would act strangely with all of the water hitting it. I have no doubt this thing could handle a swim like a champ.

[Q] Is the waterproof thing good ?

Hi guys,
Firstly, I am sorry if my english is bad, I will make grammatical error please excuse me for that
Secondly, here's my question : About the waterproof. Is it good ? I mean I read on other thread that it was not the greatest thing but I want to know more about that, should I avoid full immersion for example ? Or for too much time ? If I can immerse it in water, what should I do to keep it safe ?
Thanks in advance for your answer !

I've had my phone for a year now and it is still water proof. first thing I did when I bought it was put it in the sink and run water on it to test if it's really waterproof. then I took it to the beach and went swimming/snorkeling with it. took it to the pool, under the rain, basically any wet, low pressure water. so I'd say it's pretty water proof. just remember to wash/rinse in with fresh water if you submerge it to anything but fresh water(say sea water) to avoid corrosion.

Well, for my own experience I'd say that waterproof is one the worst thing ever on phones. At least in this one.
First of all, audio isn't loud enough, and mic is affected as well. Other than that, it's easier the overheat for the phone.
Then I want to say what happened to me. Basically my phone after not more than a month wasn't waterproof anymore. It was clearly a factory problem so I sent the phone in warranty. What they said is pathetic: they can't fix your phone or change it if it's water damaged, even if it wasn't your fault!
And since Sony's behaviour is unacceptable, if you really care, don't test if it's actually waterproof.
Sorry for my English, hope u understood what I was trying to say.
I would not count on it. There are a lot of reports where people lost their phone to water.
If you really need it to be water proof you should test it right away when you dont have a lot of personal stuff on it!
In the end it is always electricity and water. Never a good combination
My one was waterproof to the point i could go diving and take it out to sea but then after months of use and the many times ive dropped it i rinsed it under a tap and my screen had water damage. The metal exterior doesnt help things. Otherwise it was fun while the waterproof lasted, its still alive but one more dive will drown it.
Sent from my D5503 using XDA Free mobile app
I have rinsed mine under the tap lots of times to get sand off of it.
It has survived being dropped in the bath on several occasions.
It should be able to cope with the day to day usage that involves getting wet, ie by a swimming pool, knocking your coffee over on it, dropping it down the loo etc etc.
I'm not sure about taking it diving.
Looking at the replys here, I'd say that you're ok to assume that it will withstand the odd dunking without any problems.
NO.
Quite simply, no. Carried mine around in the outer pocket of a non-waterproof jacket, in the rain. Phone dead with water damage. Sony told me water damage is not covered through warranty. So, no more Sony devices for me, given the record of other Sony devices in this household, and associated responses from Sony customer "service".

Put it in a bag of rice, it might work.
I heard putting it in destilled water does help ro wash out the minerals from regular water. And after that let it dry some time.
But better google that again yourself before im telling bull**** here.
i just wanted to give my experience with electronics in water.
If you submerge your device in water the first few hours are critical. First you must power down the device and if so remove the battery doing so might prevent a short and kill the device. If you can, rise the phone with distilled water. (Its not the liquid that kills electronics its the minerals in water that will cause the short. ) Shake any water you can out of the device. If you have access to desiccant packs, like the ones you find in beef jerky or new shoes. place them in a sealed container. if you dont have access to them, you can use rice but this will not be as effective as actual desiccant. Allow a lot of time for the moisture to evaporate. its going to take a while because the phone is semi sealed and its hard for water vapor to escape.
Enjoy your Oneplus 5!
Guysss! My Drowned Oneplus 3 Is Back to life... But the issue is rear camera and capacitive buttons are unfunctional.

Keep it in there a little longer I would say... Distilled water might safe your camera.. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the contact points.
A lil longer is not two hours btw. We talk about 2-3 days of waiting.
Buddiess... Finally My phone recovered only thing , the recent capacitive button ain't working .. other than that no issues with it... thanks for your help guys!
Seems like waiting and not risking the phone to die completely is impossible here... Good luck then.

Question Waterresistant?

Hi,
Got my F3 almost a week ago, but comming from a Sony XZ1c I'm used to a waterresistant phone. I know this isn't in the specs, but some things just keep me wondering....
see 2m30s: Jerry takes out the simtray of the F1 and there's no rubber sealing. The F3 clearly has one:
see 0m12s or look at your own if you're as lucky as I am Also the outside of the USB port seems to have some rubber around it (see 1m16s) but I can't see the inside.
Also GSMarena was curious (https://www.gsmarena.com/poco_f3-review-2248p2.php)
"We can say two things for sure - the Poco F3 has fewer ports than the X3 Pro - hence fewer potential water entries - and it seems the F3 has similar SIM and USB port insulations as the ones on the Poco X3 Pro. Long story short - we do believe the F3 is protected against splashes, but for some reason, the maker isn't advertising it as such."
In the Poco teardown video I can't get a clear look at the speaker ports and even using a magnifier I'm unable to see if there any kind os sealing on the inner end of the holes in de phone.
What is your opinion? Who's maybe more adventurous or experienced to see if the holes have been waterproofed?
Have a great weekend!

Personally I think it's water resistant but they've decided to not get it officially tested to lower costs so they could instead spend on an amoled and snap 870 5g. So my opinion is it is water resistant however we'll never know for sure

I agree, I have the same feeling as well.
Looking at the rubber sealing they for sure thought about water ingress protection, but did not go for official certification to safe cost.

Reminds me of the OnePlus One if i remember correctly they did the same.
It seems it will be like POCO F1 - unofficialy annouced to be splash resistant after some time of release. Personally I have no knowlage about it. I used poco f1 in the light rain or spilled some drops on it and I had never face an issue.
Thank you all!
I'never actually made made my old phone really wet, but knowing it can handle it gives a peace of mind
Too bad I don't know how they made the lower speaker holes....
I'd say most phones these days are splash resistant with a tempered glass screen protector and TPU case.
I bought my Mi Pad 4 in 2018 when there was little to no IP rating phones on the market and I've used it under snowy and rainy conditions during bus stops, it's still working perfectly with 94% battery charge.

Funny it can handle a splash after all after Jerry finds that "they made no effort to make it water resistant at all" or something like that. And a reassuring thought also

True, chances of it ever getting wet without any case at all are very very small. Using it without a case it'll probably slip right out of my hand in a day or 2
Sorry for obsessing guys
Finally managed to make a pic of the bottom speaker holes. They're not completely open after all but there seems to be a small grid of somekind.
Seems the holes in the grid are too small for water.
Now I'll try to leave the topic alone until it actually drops in the water
Ok, probably it really is since the K40 pro has what seems to be the exact same design and is IP53. I really don't beleive that internally there's something different with the ports so guess you're right:"they saved costs for and official rating and can use it now as a ksp for the pro
Well, I can say that I've already accidentally tested this myself. The other night I accidentally knocked over half a glass of water right on top of the screen, and left it for a minute or two before I noticed. I just wiped it off and haven't had a single problem.

ok that is good to know. So aparently the very tiny speaker grill on the top left front of the display (barely visible to the naked eye) has been protected too.
Thanks for testing
Xiaomi doesn't was to pay for certification to keep the prices low for consumers, but I'm pretty sure the phone has splash/dust proof equivalent to IP53 rating.
Someone was kind enough to try

All those dunk tests... don't try it.
Failure is always the last result
Thanks, i won't, unlocking a new phone is tense enough
fyi, I forgot to remove my phone from my pocket when I went in the swimming pool. For around 10min under maybe 50cm of water.
I press on/off button and worked great. But for 2min.
I made noob mistakes (trying to unlock it, pressing buttons, and blowing through holes) and after 2min, it died. Reboot and screen slowly turned off. I think the buttons are the worst part of the phone, I could literally drink the water that went into the phone from them. Crazy.
Anyway, my adventure with the F3 ends here Gonna make a last attempt in few days again (after drying it for 3 days into rice). Going back on my S10e.. which is waterproof ^^

Rice doesn't work! NO!
Pull the rear cover and disconnect the battery asap!!!
Place in a warm dry room with a fan on it. Allow to completely dry, more is better than less. At least 2 days.
For better water removal:
If it doesn't have a LCD display, you can flush with anhydrous (96-99% only!) isopropyl alcohol to absorb the water. Be careful if it can get in between the glass and display, avoid this as it may leave a water mark. Get as much as the isopropyl off then by using centrifugal force and gravity*. Proceed to the drying procedure above.
Isopropyl is flammable so don't get stupid with it.
Never use it or any solvent around a LCD display; it will poison the display.
Use your best judgement. If you are successful the device will function normally.
If not it's likely because you delayed in removing the battery.
If it was salt water... it's already dead.
*Dry, oil free low pressure (5-15 psi) compressed air can be used to more efficiently displace/dry the isopropyl alcohol. Get under the BGA chipsets on the mobo with it. Connectors and switches. Don't go too nuts but blowout as much as possible without driving it in between the display/glass.

General Put the case in the freezer to avoid heat and improve performance?

Greetings, I know this post may sound absurd for some people, however, I play sometimes with my Pixel 6 Pro, and I experience some heat, I'm talking about 43-46° battery temp, what I do to avoid this is putting my case in the freezer for like 10-15m, and then put it back on for 5-10 minutes, then back to the freezer and so, with this I avoid heating and any thermal throttling at all, that's only less than a minute break every 15 or so mins.
Some results are:
41.9 degrees before doing it (without any case)
34.6 degrees after 2 minutes with the freezing cold case on, gaming, did not stop using the device
Buying a fan for the device is an option, but this is free, for some time this has been my way to cool down this and other devices.

might as well just put the phone in the fridge lmao

Li batteries should never be charged below 40F.
Temperature extremes aren't good for the mobo and solder especially no lead solders get brittle when cold. The freezer treatment sounds like a bad plan...
Otherwise...
If the air is dry cradling it a damp microfiber cloth does the trick... desert survival.
A reusable gel ice pack?
I hold mine in front of the AC in the car if I have been using and it's hot.
Otherwise I just put it down a few minutes and walk away

it may be bad for some fridges to do so, at least on some cheap ones, this way also allows you to continue playing and there is no need to stop

Do you think the case in the freezer thing is a bad one? I've been doing that for years and worked well, had devices for like 2-3 years and they worked fine, however I don't want to expose my device to bad things, if there is any risk I'll stop doing that.

true, i was thinking that would be useful for benchmarks where u dont have to touch the phone after starting it

Yeah, that should work well, but if you have the phone at good temp and you do the case thing you will end the benchmark with a lower temp than before starting it, but yeah, it works

Those low temperature extremes probably aren't needed to effectively cool the device. Phone manufacturers are exempt from the leaded solder ban but may comply if they wish to. More temperature extremes mean more component expansion and contraction, in time it could cause a solder joint failure. Not an issue unless it fails...
Another potential problem could be the case it's self. My case's inner liner is stiff at room temperature and more so if cooled. As a result I'm careful taking on and off even warming it up to do so, and don't do it excessively. As best I can tell it doesn't flex the phone doing this as that could end badly.
Moisture condensation is another potential issue. Always assume a IP68 rated phone will leak, keep them dry. Including using a damp microfiber cloth... make sure it's damp not wet.
Forced air cooling is the safest. I try not to expose my phone to excessive temperatures as that's something somewhat within my control. I protect it in the winter and try to keep it at least 60F whenever possible.

Oh yeah, that's the safe and how should it be done way, at least here for me it doesn't get wet or so, it comes out cold to the touch, but yep humidity and so can really mess things up, you really know a lot and explained it well, it's nice to see comments like this, thanks for your time and explanation
Me that was thinking it was cool...

You're welcome.
A gel cold pack with a cotton shop cloth in between might be easier and work better.
A continuous cold supply with 2 or more rotating.
Everything in life is temporary and we like everything around us are just passing through. Use what works best for you in that allotted time frame. It's fked up... use whatever comes in handy.

I can try that, I have something like that here to try, the next time I experience strong heat I will do it, thanks!
