Coming from Iphone to Android again - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I've been out of the android world for a while and I'm tired of the strict policy of iphone to change stuff and do stuff, and ... So I'm looking at different options, I heard that the note 7 has issues getting very hot, with the speaker, etc... I'm a note guy but I'm afraid to spend so much money in a defective device, so... Is it still defective? When is the note 8 coming out? Should I buy another phone?
Thanks :good::good:

The phone runs extremely cool. Running hot is not a problem. Although I suspect you are trolling, I will answer anyway. Looking to buy a recalled phone is not a smart choice. Wait for the S8 or Note 8 if you are going to switch.

lol did it really seems like I was trolling? hahahah sorry lol. No, I'm serious, I have a charging problem on my iPhone and besides what I said I want to switch. I was looking now at some videos on youtube and they are saying that the note 8 is coming up BUT I'm assuming it'll be for September or so, I can't wait that long, this charging problem pisses me off, so... what alternatives would you guys suggest to the note 7, I really like the note series...
EDIT: I think I'll go with the 7s edge...

The new S8 will be coming in a couple of months, why would you want to buy an S7 now?

Well I didn't know that but I just bought it right now!! and I love it!!! Honestly I'm the type of guy that can stay with a phone until 2 more come out, unless you are rich or you do it for bussiness it's a real waste of money to change so often, but thanks for the heads up, now... time to root it!!! Damn I'm so lost right now ahaha I haven't been in the android world for a while

Note 7 is so awesome, I love/d it. For me I never had problems of hot battery, not on first gen, nor on second gen. Im not a gamer tho. Highest i went to was 34c.
Obviously i cannot recommend N7, one is due to recall (which is bogus) and two is because most are deactivated via IMEI + some other sh1t. My 1st gen is still working on rogers tho and my gf having a "blast" lol
Kinda envy her. So for now im playing with my N7 on wifi and for everything else using LG G3 which i like but it does feel light years behind.
If you love the stylist phone then you have no choice but to wait for N8, unless we could figure out how to unblock N7 but for now most are unsuccessful, specially Canadian versions.
From what i've heard S8 should be great, so there is another good choice for you and by that time Im sure LG G6 is going to come out as well which looks good design wise. Not sure how it will stack up vs S8.
The Note 7 pretty much has it all. All great sammy tweaks like always on display, button camera lunch - S.Pen, Curved screen, Best quality display, water proof, almost no bezels, usb type C, FAST wireless charging. Type C i never used since i had wireless everywhere, even my cars but now with this LG G3 I sure wish I had it. Feels like Ill break the damn thing off lol.

Ps If I was in your shoes Id keep whatever you have now, struggle with it and wait for S8, N8. Worth the wait.

Moving away from Galaxy Nexus. Recommendations?

So heres the thing. My father lives in Pakistan. I came to Pakistan from England for my summer holidays and I was thinking of gifting my Galaxy Nexus (running JB) to my father as he really needs a good, capable business phone. Hes not particularly happy using his combo of the Nokia E5, the galaxy tab and Xperia X10.
So I was wondering what i should get next. I was initially planning to wait for Nokia's latest offering and the new iPhone. I'm not particularly uptight about the OS I use, as long as I am happy with the phone. With the Galaxy Nexus, I was extremely happy with its performance, and i cannot for the life of me live with a phone with a screen less than 4.3 inches anymore (its spoilt me). But Galaxy S3 or the One X just don't look as big of an upgrade compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
And I'm not too hard on apps either. Kik, Fifa 12, and Flipboard are the only ones i use.
Would it be wise for me to get WP8? Its not that android hasnt kept me happy, but WP8 has me really intrigued, what with the idea of Pureview integrated into an ecosystem thats useable. And are there any unique phones on the market right now? Other than the obvious heavyweights.
Any help would be really really appreciated. :cyclops:

I would go for the S3,since it's the best out there for the moment.
I have never been a fan of Windows on cellphones (guess I'm disappointed by the old WM on the old phones).
As for iPhony... I boycott them simply because they are a big corporation with evil business practices.
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
Hey man!
Thats a nice thing to do for your dad, its hard to beat a Gnex atm, and having played about with my friends HTC one and s3, i still prefer my Gnex and the softkeys, i cant imagine an actual button on the front of my phone!
WP8 looks good to me too, but Jellybean is a new level of smooth, and Gnex's are getting the OTA already, so maybe just get another one? lol the new iphone and possibly a new nexus are planned for the fourth quarter, so if you could wait im sure they would be equally awesome (although coming from an iPhone to the Gnex I don't wanna go back lol maybe ios6 is different though, their making a lot of noise about it anyways). out of the HTC and s3, the HTC was nicer to use and more fluid, the touchwiz on the s3 really got on my nerves, and im sure it bogs the phone down (still superfast though). but sense on the htc was really intuitive. but thats just my opinion. im sure a custom rom on the s3 would sway my opinion though the nexus is just great and your right, this community is awesome. the asus padphones pretty unique, but its something u either like or hate. or dont know what to think of like me
maybe go to a few phone stores and test the phones on offer, some unusual suspects might catch your eye :fingers-crossed:
id say stick with andriod but at the end of the day, its up to you!

you might want to try the lumia 900. I've actually used it for a while (more liek a couple of hours) and i really felt that it was something i could use. Plus it felt so good in my hands. And yes i do understand why some people would not like the iphone.
But i really do not see myself getting the S3. I'll be really honest, it feels cheap. The One X looks and feels better. But as I said none of these two phones offers anything quite different from the galaxy nexus. Why pay 100 quid more for very incremental differences in user experience. The galaxy nexus right now is a much better package for the amount of money you pay. But I want something different.

HAHA! I was thinking the same thing! and the same can be said about Microsoft IMO.
You have contradictions in your thoughts... though you say s3 or one x will be expensive and g nexus is best bet, you say you want something different.

I know right. The keys on the galaxy nexus are brilliant.
The thing is, windows phone has really got my eye right now. I mean someone was talking about it having directX support and that porting games form windows 8 would be quite easy for developers. If something along those lines could happen, it could change the mobile gaming landscape. But yes i do realise how right now its more a fight between the One X and the S3. I still dont fancy these two phones. Maybe an android offering in the future might get me, but I just cant buy a device i dont love. You know. Like with the Galaxy nexus, it was love at first sight. The curve at the back and the whole feel of the damn thing lol. Loved the experience. I want something of that sort with my next device lol.
Getting win phone 7 before win phone 8 which is near corner is stupid
Getting iPhone 4s now when new 4" iPhone cones in few months is stupid.
Getting new iPhone than on same old OS would be even more stupid.
LOL.

I dont say theyre expensive. I just think theyre not different enough from a Gnex to be at their price points. The Gnex is really good value for money is what i meant. And I still think that stock Jelly Bean offers a better experience than touchwiz or Sense. Wp8 on the other hand might rival the whole UX thing.

I thought the same about the s3, but the screens great and it is pretty solid (watched it drop from a desk onto a hard floor, once we took a breath and checked it was ok) touchwiz was the killer but that can be fixed with a custom rom.
The lumia 900 wont be getting WP8 as far as i know, so if something different is what your after, maybe waiting for the new one is a good idea.
and atifsh, hes already had a nexus and said the One X and S3 arent a big leap ahead of it. And he fancies something different now, wheres the contradictions dude? TROLL.

Lol. That's why I'll probably wait for WP8. I dunno about the iPhone. The only reason anyone would get the iPhone over the S3, One X or Gnex is its gaming prowess. I mean the interface is kind of..well crap. but with a 4.7 inch screen, gaming on the iphone could really be something. I know that will never happen but I mean. Hoping for something of that sort. Browsing on a tiny 3.5 inch screen is a pain in any case.
Btw i do know that gaming on android doesnt suck. But i just feel we dont get developers giving it the same amount of love as the iOS equivalents. Wouldnt you agree. FIFA12 on iOS is comparable to the 3ds version. But the same version on android feels like a half hearted effort and its even costlier.

Do you think with a clean JB ROM, I could get noticeably better performance out of the S3? Compared to the GNex that is? And I have seen the S3 screen. It doesnt have this sort of banding that I'v got on my GNex but the banding has never bothered me at all. Otherwise the screens feel identical to my eyes.

Yeah Ive heard about that too, and your right it could change everything! but windows has failed royally in the past, i guess ill believe it when i see it!
aw dude I know, I was so close to going with an s2, the guy at O2 was pushing but I tried the nexus and knew i wanted it! gonna keep it until a new nexus or something that catches my eye like the Gnex did to start with haha Happy Hunting anyway and be patient if you can, Im sure there's some cracking phones on the way.
and as for gaming, Androids starting to get the attention it deserves. EA and Gameloft have some great games already and more are on the way. i was super impressed with the dark knight rises game from gameloft, people have been having problems with it but it runs like a dream for me and its ambitious. things can only get better!

I cant say for certain as my friend wont do it lol despite my peer pressure. but the touchwiz is bloaty and it cant harm anything to get rid of it. compared to the Gnex? it depends, hardware wise theoretically it should, but there are rom and kernel combos on the Gnex that make it lightning so i'll be honest and say the difference probably wont be huge. U cant get much faster than lightening fast haha maybe someone in the s3 forum has an answer to that who previously had a Gnex.

Yes. I might wait til the new nexus devices come out. Rumors about 3 or 4 of them coming out at the same time are interesting as well.
And yes I'll be keeping my eye out for all those devices from Japan as well. Some of the androids there are really something (design wise).
And yes i know. Gaming on these 4.5+ inch screens is really what portable gaming will be after a couple of years. With the amount effort most devs are putting into mobile gaming, we might see the 3ds and vita fizzling out.
I will also be looking around in the S3 forums. I think it really wont be that much of a difference. Your'e right Gnex really is quick. Dunno how much quicker you can get lol.

Well, you know for sure you like the gnex, so why not just get another one? When the new Nexus comes out you can take a look at it and maybe sell the gnex. As for the S3, it has significantly better hardware... screen, camera, processor etc... but it doesn't have the Nexus software advantages.
Can't argue on games on iPhone vs android cause I'm not a gamer.
But I would differ on this that s3 or even one x doesn't have more to it than nexus.
Yes nexus gets OS updates fast but when both phones are on same level of OS, which they will in month or so, it will be different.
Example the leaked new build of one x is notably faster than previous, everyone noted that who uses it. And that's 4.04.
Also on s3 you put apex, nova and you get stock look.
Talking about quad s3 here, US users may don't agree.

What troll? Where's the troll?
He likes nexus true
He likes but wont buy S3 or One X for his reasons, which are only good phones apart nexus in my opinion at the moment.
He likes win phone 8 and want to buy when it comes... and than there's iPhone somewhere in between.
Well the screen of my previous Nexus look better than my S3 so it depends on each device and the batch it came from. My Nexus screen didn't have banding problems. I like the higher dpi too.
S3 has a much more powerful quadcore GPU so its one of the best phone for gaming now. Playing psx games it was over 500fps. And the camera is excellent, but I don't think its any better than the S2 or Note.
I trading my S3 to go back to the Nexus, made a big mistake buying any phone but a Nexus. Now that I realized that fact, my phone hobby will become more affordable, especially with Google pricing.
i don't like my gnex
My gnex was dropping the signal all the time.
My wife's Droid x has a much better signal reception. My gnex is much faster on the wifi. I got Verizon to send me a replacement and the second one has same problem. But the second one has powered down on me a couple of times now for no reason. The phone was in a case on my side when it happened the few times that it did. I am frustrated now. Verizon said we could talk about a different model
But what do you replace this with. What is most bug free without losing ground?
You sound like you're into gaming, so right off the bat I'd recommend waiting for the Note II. It sounds like samsung will pack in a lot of power, and once you go bigger you generally can't go back.
Waiting (a bit longer) for the next Nexus is also another possibility. Hopefully it'll come with an OMAP 5 or another A15 chipset. (As a strong soft-key advocate, it's also not likely I could get anything besides a Nexus anytime soon either.)
While I too find WP intriguing, I cannot in good conscience recommend it or iOS due to the limitations they built into the platform. I'm not even talking about limited custom modding (though that's also a big deal to me), but even more basic limitations: no custom launcher, no custom keyboard (no swiftkey or swipe? They must really think their stuff is the end-all-be-all or something), no file manager, no sideloading of apps. Some of this might be mitigated by jailbreaking, but only at a stability cost.
This problem is even worse in WP due to its further limitations; not even WP8, to my knowledge, will allow custom backgrounds in its launcher - my Launcher 7 is practically more advanced than their bloody default start screen. Still, if you do decide on WP, you should definitely wait until the 8 devices come out, or you'd just be buying into a dead end.
Right now the S3 or One X are the obvious choices, but I would recommend waiting. It feels like better stuff is right around the corner (whether the Note, Nexus, or One X+). Unfortunately, I don't think England has the Nexus for $350 deal, or I would definitely recommend that for your father.

[Q] opinion needed thinking of selling it already..

Need help guys these niggles are starting to bother me...
1.the heat problem when playing games for longer than 5 mins is stupid its even worse when you turn off the auto turn down brightness restriction off..super gets hot...if you dont play games its fine general browsing etc
2.the warm colour effects are not right colours look washed out at times..
3.battery barely lasts a day which i think is linked to heat problem..cpu working at 1 million miles per hour lol.
4.qhd tech makes either games look horrible or look ok or dont exists on the playstore (device not compatible) or some games simply crash
I love the looks, the feel, and operation
Im an occasional user, dont play games for long, great phone
But my question is will firmwares fix these problems?? Or is it the fact if we dont play games. And put up with rest its fine??
It's a new device so in my opinion you should wait for firmware updates rather than selling it now.

I know but 801 chip i feel isnt really designed for qhd..where the rumored prime has 805..so lg had to make sacrifices to make it all work how it should.
It puzzles me how LG allowed a phone to come out with issues that in many cases isnt minor the heat issue especially..and compensate they turn the brightness down turning tge restriction off on the hidden simply fries when you are playing any games
I hope LG has magic up there sleeves i do..
Sell it... to me for $10.
If you don't like it, sell it
Personally I don't have any of the issues you're mentioning, extra heat is no big deal in my opinion, and I play games a lot.... Battery time is good for me, around 4h to 4h30 screen-on time, better than my tweaked S4 was.
In fact the only issue I have with the phone currently is the size, I still find it a little too big for my hands, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually
For your question, firmware fixes will probably make a little bit of a difference for battery / heating, but you're likely to have better results with custom kernel, when they become available (I'd say we still have a couple of weeks to wait before we see some serious development happening on the G3).

I must admit, I'm contemplating selling mine too though I don't really have any of the problems you mention. Just not feeling it for some reason. I have backlight bleed all the way round but, again, it doesn't bother me much.
I'm thinking about the galaxy prime (or F). Ideally something with a 5.2inch amoled screen (1080p would do) with slim bezel and metal back, removable battery, sd-card slot...
The Xiaomi mi3 looks nice if the spec was upped a bit

Yep same here you expect to have god in the palm of your hands and you don't I'm thinking about the prime as well funnily enough,,,,that excites me more than what I have and the thing isn't confirmed if its real yet and plus it will have a smaller screen...I like the lg g3 size its nice...
Yes a few more weeks...hopefully devs we pick up the pace with custom roms etc,,,
I have always had the reasoning, soon as you doubt something and want to sell it. Do so, otherwise you'll be looking for niggles and you'll find them and then it'll just annoy you until you sell it on.
Ultimately only you can decide, but if you're already doubting it. Get shot now while you can and won't lose any money.

Hi Guys...
Well its on ebay now...I just wasn't feeling it...
Good luck guys, hope all works out LG fix the kinks and the devs flood the gates with custom roms etc..
I am in the same boat as you. Think about selling or returning it everyday but the issue is I am on AT&T. If I return it then I don't see any other viable option. Not interested in S5 ( no more Samsung), can't stand the black bar on M8 and obviously a big no for microscopic iPhone. So I would have to sell it. So for the time being I am just using it carefully and if I don't see any unlocking for bootloader I will sell it in a month and go back to using my N5.
Returning mine to cpw for a refund even tho I've had for a month there willing to refund me
just sell it and get an iphone
no one listened to me :silly: lg g3 not ready for prime time :silly: but i guess i am just crazy returned mine the 2nd day

lol funny that's what people said about the LG G Pad too,,, until roms and firmware came out for it....My only gripe with the G3 is I'm not rooted yet as there is not one for the sprint version, but I know its coming

well here's my logic. the moment you need Roms and root to fix a out of the box experience its going back. :good: sometimes its nice to buy a phone and just use it. but yes this is XDA so go ahead throw rocks at me
I played with one at a store the other day and was not impressed. It definitely looks and feels nicer than the G2 (I owned) but I saw so much lag I couldn't believe it.
If LG sold that as a Nexus I'd sell my Nexus 5 in a split second. They've come much farther with their UI than the G2 (hated that UI with a passion) but it's still clunky.
There is NO reason lag should be present on a 2014 flagship phone with 3GB of RAM. No excuse other than pooey software.

Has Note 7 lost some of its glam?

Saw the N7 for the first time in a CPW shop recently and I was surprised by how fragile it seems, the sort of thing you might keep in a little pouch for safekeeping. I've used a N4 for two years now. Take it everywhere with me, using Osmand GPS maps, the camera and pen most of all. Have it in an ordinary Labato fold-stand. By comparison, the N7 looks more like a pretty toy. Can't imagine it roughing it on land or sea.
I'm not against the N7. I ordered one mid-Aug but cancelled when delivery of non-Sim version was held back till end Sept. The bursting battery saga means I probably wouldn't get one until mid/late Oct. I know now that there are some dev restrictions that might not be overcome; I believe it is still impossible for apps to write to Sd cards with Marshmallow. The fact that the battery is locked away doesn't help either: pulling the batt is the best way out of a soft brick.
It's frustrating. Had looked forward to the N7 as a real practical advance on the N4, but I feel now that it was a vanity project that went badly wrong for Sammy. What's the point of a glass back, for goodness sake? Let's hope they have better sense when it comes to designing the N8.

The glass back is hardly new to the Note 7. It's also on the S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, S7, and S7 Edge.
Well, what drove them to this is all the complaints of Plastic. Plastiky feel...yucky plastic...etc...etc...
I drove off with my note 7 on the back of my truck. Later found it face down on asphalt. Has one tiny scratch on the screen. I'm running a ringke slim case with no screen protector. I do have some Samsung screen protectors for when tje new phones come out.
To answer the question in the title "Has Note 7 lost some of its glam?": No.
If anything it has become more desirable in my eyes since the iPhone 7 is such a lack luster update. Best looking smartphone available by a large margin.

Ironically you sound like my brother from another mother. I had pre-ordered the Note 7 from CPW only to cancel and am waiting on the new stock. Current owner of a 2 year young Note 4.
Walked into CPW and picked up a display model of the Note 7 for the 1st time yesterday. She's a beaut! No scratches although there were some on the S7. (Off topic, but wasn't even aware of the S6 Edge Plus, a bigger phone!)
What really has me suspicious is this locked in battery. OK, the phone is waterproof, but the safest way in emergencies such as soft brick (bootloop, recovery hard freeze) is the ability to pull the battery out.
I am still eagerly awaiting the Note 7, but some of the rumors for next year's phones are mind blowing! S8 with bendable screen, 4k, etc, etc. And not being an iPhone user ever, but theirs is the 10th anniversary edition all glass casing. Maybe it is wise to be patient here...

Wait for next year's 10th anniversary of iPhone, apparently this is when we will really see them let loose on the hype. And no I am not an iPhone fanatic, been a Samsung Galaxy owner for the past 6 years, but wait and see…

Steve Jobs would never have allowed that.
That's the problem with these iconic CEO 's passing away. Their new replacements have a name to make for themselves and with their ego there's no holding back.
By the way, as a Graphic Designer, I grew up on Apple Mac, but no see through the glitz and glamour. I'd rather run an affordable machine on Linux that fork out (bi-)yearly for something that's constantly purposely holding back on features that are used to sell the next year's upgrade model.
Personally, I find the SGN7 more appealing than ever. I look forward to be able to buy the phone as soon as it arrives to Colombia. I managed to buy an international version in the US that I returned unopened and got a full refund.
I placed a Pre-order with Samsung Colombia in late August, but a week ago they called me saying that my order was cancelled. They said that they were going to ship my gift (gear fit 2) at no cost to me and it would arrive by September 19th. At least I got a free watch. Well actually we got two because I had ordered a phone for my wife too.
It's heartbreaking what is happening to such a beautiful phone. What a shame.
I've been using it for about a week and it's great. The only issue with the appearance is finger prints but I literally couldn't care. The edge screen makes the phone for me, now whenever I use another phone, it feels cramped and the bezels look huge. The screen hasn't scratched at all by the way, it's just as durable as any another phone...
Also you said "Can't imagine it roughing it on land or sea.", well no? A phone is a mini computer, not a ball. Yes, it's considered a little fragile but as long as you use the phone as a phone, it's fine.
So to answer your question, yes it still has it's glam + it feels great to have something that looks unique and a phone that people ask you about.
I had ordered a G935F from a large US Retailer - it was supposed to be released in September and then this whole Battery thing happened. Today, I got an email from the Retailer saying the order had been cancelled and the reason given was that the Note 7 had been discontinued.
I have a feeling that this is the final word - Samsung will be annoucing that the Note 7 is discontinued and anyone that has one will be encouarged to return it for an exchange or a refund. (or course they could try to simply replace the existing notes that are out there with a replacement that has a new battery, but I don't think they will want to risk the Liability. If anything happens with a new NOTE 7 released after the problems the first one had, it would put Samsung out of business. Their best bet (and what I think has happened based on the email I got today) is that the Note 7 will be killed off and we will have to wait for the NOTE 8 (which would probably - hopefully - be released simultaneously with the S8 next year.
of course this is mostly conjecture founded on the wording of the email I received from that Retailer - too bad, I had really wanted to get a Note 7
It would make no sense to put out Note 8 along with S8...the sales will just divide among those 2. The question here is not if Note 7 will sell (it already lost the battle), the question is who else, appart from Samsung fans, will buy S8 and/or Note 8. And yes maybe they should discontinue Note 7...but they won't...it would mean they admit defeat (this year). They could though do something for the fans (discount or..something). Lets just wait until first numbers coming from Apple hit the media...I am hoping their increase in number of phones sold is under 20%...I wouldn't be able to stand the grin on my friends owning crapples

Yes, I noticed that the N7 is often described as a phone. It's not; it's a tablet/phone. I'm not a phone person (keep it short!) so the Note4 is for me an outdoor device (hence my question re N7's - a phablet - glass back). And a really good one at that.
mocsab: you might well be right. Goodness knows what that will do for Sammy's rep. It would be a huge let down for so many people.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7
:fingers-crossed:
I'm old, people my age don't consider phones glam, any phone. For me they're tools and the Note 7 is still the best tool on the shelf until the next thing comes. The price of course is supported by nothing more than the vanity of people who think some hardware in a glass/meta/ (insert alleged premium material) shell that they neither see nor touch in its cheap TPU case is somehow better than the exact same hardware wrapped in a plastic shell and then covered with a cheap TPU case. But whatever, being old I can afford the best, that would be the Note 7 in the phablet space. It was yesterday before batterygate, it will be tomorrow after batterygate. It appears right now it will remain so until the spring since the Nexus/Pixel looks to be a little weak this year.
I used my Note 7 for a couple weeks before it started running warm and stuttering. Up until that point it was nearly flawless, easily the best phone I've ever seen. I dropped it the first day (caseless of course) about 18" straight onto concrete and it didn't even get a scratch. I can't wait to get another one, as much as I liked my Note 4 I'm not particularly happy to be back on it. The 7 is just so much faster and more responsive.
I say nearly flawless because I don't like the non-removable battery. Also I'm not a huge fan of the edge screen, but the sharp angle they used really was an improvement on previous edge phones. I'd prefer if the bootloader wasn't locked, but my reasons for rooting and custom ROM's have really diminished as the phones get faster and more polished.

I love being right..

After being the first person in Florida at a TMO location to report issues with my phone (not explosions) but lag, heat, etc... It's now finally being brought to fruition how bad this phone is. After being flamed by fanboys and people who just couldn't get past a brand name, you're now finally seeing even people like the central slam the phone. I will add, that they also were upset by my posts, videos of the phone(s) all 4 of them, failing.
So, with the Note 7 pretty much done, no matter what they do - what out there does what the Note 7 does? There really isn't anything out there that I can see (That if the note 7 worked as promised) would do what the Note 7 was supposed to do in a fluid nature. And while I want to go back to the iPhone, since they just work, I am trying to give Android's a fair shake. I just can't find anything out there screen size wise, security wise, speed wise, screen quality wise, resolution wise*, that really is 100% (not 99%) to the note 7.
Any idea's on a replacement? Whether I have to buy it overseas or not. I really am trying to give android OS and the companies who use it a fair shake.. Just not impressed from what I have seen out there as of now.

Samsung wants the phone back directly, not through the vendor. They have told me they would replace it as of last Wed. However, they told me in an email today that they will not send me a replacement phone. They said both versions are on hold and to return the phone to THEM but request a refund through TMO. This is really garbage in my opinion.
TMO will probably refund, that isn't the issue. The issue now is finding a suitable phone. One that, as I said " is 100% to the note 7 in specs".. I know performance wise, there is nothing that will touch the apple. I will take a "little bit of a hit" if I can find something with a 2k screen and has all of the other specs. Resolution on a screen is key for me and also to be able to do some other things like penetration testing and what not. Which is why I am avoiding the Apple platform for the first time since the inception.

Can't do penetration testing with it. I have my 6plus and it's amazing how much faster and more fluid it is over the N7 grenade. Unfortunately I do need to test in the field and the iPhone 7 plus can't do it. And now with the jailbreak all but gone, it really doesn't leave much to be desired. IF the iPhone had a 2k screen, it would probably happen, but as of now, looking to see whats available overseas.. =/

I do like the S-Pen.. but really don't want to go backwards in technology. Then again, the N5 just works lol.. bah!
S7e is the note7 minus stylus and eye scanner. The charging port technology ...while USBC is nice, doesn't affect anything charging rate or transfer wise as far as I can tell. Been using the s7e for a few weeks as a replacement .... no issues. Even looks / feels the same.
The screen is a hair smaller but I can't tell the difference in hand and my s7e fit almost perfectly into the case I had for my note 7.

Lag/Heat has nothing to do with the fires. I'm tired of repeating myself so go view my post history.

I can't do it ...

So ...
For the last few weeks, I've done nothing but scour the internet, reading articles, comparing specs, watching videos etc. and haven't found anything remotely close the the beauty of the Note 7, Samsung just has a way of designing phones to be elegant and appealing while making it functional in and out. I didn't really appreciate the little gimmicky features us Samsung "Fanboys" get until this recall, left me forced to look for a replacement phone. Being loyal to Samsung came pretty easy, not because of the name or anything, there just isn't another phone maker on the market that appeals to me aesthetically or on the tech front, Samsung stays ahead of the pack and always has some new reason to upgrade, at least for me.
What's making it hard to switch even temporarily to a different brand?
I've grown accustom to the curved screen that i once chocked up as a gimmick for its functionality, I now appreciate for it's feel and look, for example making the Note 7 look bezel-less and feel so comfortable in the hand. So while searching for a replacement I see other phones with curved screens and thing "Ok, here we go ..." then look how that companies curved screen functionality just pales in comparisons to Samsung's elegant, refined, clean UI and layout, even though I fully admit, I rarely ever use the edge function, but the thought of losing it makes me a bit sad. The same can be said for the s-pen, even as a graphic designer and digital illustrator, I don't use the s-pen as much as one would think, granted I do rough out sketches on my Note 10.1 2014 before going to my desktop and Wacom Cintiq almost every time I do client work, but the s-pen on my Note 7 stays in its silo unless I jot a quick memo or feel like playing with the functions ... but its there when I want it.
Wireless Charging & Fast charging isn't as accessible as you would think these days, considering Samsung users have it for years, I don't remember the last time i used a cord on my phone. I have an Official Samsung charging puck (non Fast-Charge) in my office at work, and an Official Samsung Wireless Fast-Charge Stand on my nightstand at home, again both functional and both beautiful looking with and without the phone on it.
Official Cases. Nobody does it like Samsung on Official cases, with every new Flagship purchase I grab all the Official Cases, beautiful, premium, function and overall are deigned to enhance the look and feel of the phone.
Build Material and Quality. Just top-notch.
Button Placement. After only using Samsung phones for so many years, the button placement is 2nd Nature. Laid out perfectly.
Camera, Don't even really need to go into details on that. Some of the best in the business. I use the camera daily, I take product photos for work in our portfolios online as well as print, and I use my Samsung's cameras to record our business videos. Everyone here uses the newest iPhones and still call me to take quick product photos for the clients, because as they say "Your phone takes way better pictures." And I agree lol.
Fingerprint scanner. Use it. It works and is refined to work great.
Samsung Pay. It works, haven't had it fail on me yet. And everywhere. Another reason why Samsung is the best in the business.
Iris scanner, new feature, call it a gimmick, I thought it was too at first, but damn ... it works, like every time, at least for me. And it's an awesome feature, Samsung gives you things like this to show you they are leading in innovation and tech, you don't have to use it, but you can if you want that extra gadget.
S-Health? I use it. I LOVE wearables, and once again Samsung leads the pack, I own the Gear s2 and Fit2 currently, and have owned every Gear since the 1st, I can't wait to dish out the money for the Gear S3 in a month either lol. And while the watch may connect to non-Samsung phones, the integration isn't the same. And I like everything cohesive.
Gear VR, Again, have had once since the Innovators Edition, and bought a shiny new one back in August for my Note 7, Use it maybe every 2-weeks to watch some Hulu or Netflix and explore some content, But again, even though I don't power use it, it's there when and if I want to, adding another cool function and layer to own a Samsung flagship.
Some people hate Touch-wiz, I've owned no other brand of phone since the Note 1, can't say I've ever had an abnormal lag issue that people say they've experienced, snag here and there, but name a device or OS that doesn't snag every once in a while. Touch-wiz, like it or not, is clean, smooth, functional, easy to navigate and customize, modern and elegant. I never have any issue with it and I power use with heavy media use pretty much daily.
That said, Samsung nailed it with the Note 7. They did and I know I'm not alone is saying that. This phone aesthetically, is perfect. symmetrical, minimal but still flashy with the glass and reflection, the shape of the phone is exactly how I always wanted a phone to look, rectangle, thin, flat and the edges only slightly rounded, unlike Samsung's S-Series that are very rounded and almost look like a toy or feminine in my opinion, very round and bubbly, the Note series, seems to look more masculine and business like with harder corners and a sharper less-gimmicky aesthetic. And the Blacked-out understated Black Onyx Note 7? ... c'mon. So freaking sleek.
Inside, Touch-wiz is clean, granted I also use the "Black Edition" Theme and an app that create custom rounded Google Paper-esque Icons for each App icon, making my home-screen so great looking. * App I use is called "Materialize" I highly recommend it.
So I guess to keep ALMOST everything i stated above, the smart and easy solution is to just grab an S7 and maybe I will, but VERY VERY reluctantly, and without a choice, because as I stated above, they're just ugly, the shape of the phone I just cant digest. Spec-wise the phone is a parallel phone, ascetically and feel-wise, it's not even in the same ball-park. My little brother owns and loves his S7 Edge, I purchased an S7 Edge Pink Gold for my mom when i grabbed my Note 7 in August, she loves it, Says shes never owned anything so pretty. But for me, after holding a Note 7, there's no going back, it may not be a downgrade on paper, but in hand and visually, anything but the Note 7 is a downgrade.
After reading article after article and comment after comment of people bashing Samsung and of people trying to bully people or talk them into just exchanging the phone, I figured I'd write this post up as a little bit of insight into why I at least haven't yet, and maybe I'm alone in feeling like this, don't really care.
Overall, I feel safe with the phone. I don't fly often (haven't in years and don't plan to anytime soon) so the FAA Ban doesn't affect me. I own my home, my wife doesn't feel threatened by the Note 7 (also a Samsung user) and I know if my phone does "explode" that it's on me, I take responsibility for holding onto the phone after the recall. I will not sue or go to the media.
But I can't for the life of me, turn this phone in. I can't. lol I want to, so i cant move on and pout this recall fiasco behind me and enjoy my phone and my Gear VR, but after weeks of researching and physically holding different phone options, they all pale in comparison. In my eyes, Samsung finally made the perfect phone aesthetically, at least for me. And now I just gotta give it back?! lol nah. Not yet at least.
I'm on the next plan through AT&T, turned my S6 Edge + into upgrade, so without the Note 7 I'm phone-less, I've looked into just buying a temp phone until the S8, granted that the S8 appeals to me. And even with buying a temp phone, it has to be up to spec and allow me to have the functions I've grown used to with Samsung's latest Flag-ships. So again, an S7 Edge is my only option, and paying $800 for a phone that I originally passed on almost a year, is a hard pill to swallow. To think the S8 is just gonna be another S7 looking phone with only a 5.5" screen and maybe an added iris scanner, isn't really getting me excited, but I can at least hope they took a page from the Note 7's looks for it.
And then to wonder if the Note series in general is dead ... man. lol That sucks. The Note series wasn't built off trend like the iPhone, it was built of merit, its earned its reputation and earns my business. The Note 7 having it's issues is so unfortunate, especially when in my opinion, its THE BEST Samsung phone to ever hit the market.
So while I still weigh my options for a replacement phone, not knowing if I will wake up to that dreaded only 60% charge or even worse a blocked IMEI or bricked phone. I don't do it lightly. This post and my feelings may seem excessive, but Aug/Sept is like my Superbowl, I wait yearly for new tech announcements and I really enjoy it, my phone is on me daily, everywhere. It get used a lot, i have to hold it and use it a lot. I have to enjoy using it and trust my information on it, it has to be an all in one, and for me ... it also has to look good doing it. So that's why I love this Note 7. It nails my criteria and kicks it up 100 more notches.
I'm sure this post will get trolls throwing the "fanboy" crap around or the know-it-all's blowing it up with "just turn it in!" nonsense, But at least here's one persons view of why i still carry a "potential bomb" (laughable) around. And for the people that could easily just return, switch brands or exchange to an S7 and move on, awesome, wish i could too, but for me it's not that simple, I have too much invested in Samsung, money-wise and routine-wise, and too much time and enjoyment invested in this specific phone to just hand it over.
Anyone else is the same boat?
Return it, get refund - wait till Galaxy S8 comes out.
Just like me dude
i wish i could like your post a billion times..you my friend jus gave the longest most interesting post i ever read. im not a poster im a reader but reading your post i had to say something..sadly for us in America samsung is releasing a big screen phone over in china..6gbram..6inch screen..im not sure about s pen though..its the C9 coming out in november..hopefully we get a phone very twin brotherly similar to the note 7 because its the best phone i ever used..

Being loyal to Samsung came pretty easy, not because of the name or anything, there just isn't another phone maker on the market that appeals to me aesthetically or on the tech front, Samsung stays ahead of the pack and always has some new reason to upgrade, at least for me.
Anyone else is the same boat?

Sorry I didn't want to repost everything you wrote. I feel exactly the same way, word for word! Your post is upsetting me even more now, and you didn't even mention the water resistant feature or ability to pin hand written notes/reminders to the Always On Display...this feature meant I never had to turn on or touch my phone to remind myself of tasks when I am at work. Also, I rooted my phone and applied the dual speakers mod giving it the stereo sound with Viper4Android I so badly wanted on my Note.
It is a total and complete phone! How can I replace it???
I've received an email from Samsung saying they're arranging collection of my Note 7. :crying: I don't want to give it up but I also don't want to be in a situation where the phone is remotely killed and I miss out on the refund/replacement altogether. :crying:

I feel the exact same way. I have owned every Note since the Note 1 so I am obviously a huge fan. I actually bought the s7 Edge just in case the phone gets blocked or bricked and I still can't bring myself to send back the Note 7.
I can say I feel very much the same way.. with perhaps a bit the exception of S Health since the measurements aren't always correct (instead, I use a fitbit, and manual checking of heartrate/bloodpressure/glucose (which I then again do enter into S Health so it's not entirely pointless to me)).
As I have to return the Note 7 the same time as my wife (which is the biggest reason I haven't done just yet, our schedules are very different), I keep browsing the net, hoping to read or see something that makes me interested to another phone, but I keep coming back to my Note 4 when the day comes that I return my Note 7. The S7 Edge is in a decent second position (I've already stepped away from the idea of upgrading my phone and decided whatever I get next I'll just buy), and the V20 in a third place. There's still some thought of the Pixel but very little to be honest. I'll need to check them out in the store, maybe even take them for a week or so to make a decision (they don't do restocking fees in my state.
But yeah, so far, nothing has come close to the Note 7, and in a way I'm kind of glad my wife and I have such different schedules that I don't really have to get a new phone straight away.. or actually, perhaps I should, but it gives me a bit of an excuse (to my own that is, I know some people feel different about that, to each their own I guess) to keep it for now. I wont be flying for a few more months so I have time lol
I'm disappointed to have gave up my Note, it was a hell of a device, more so on the design front, it's the best designed phone I've ever had, but I got a Pixel XL now and you no what I'm happy with it, the design is lacking a bit but other wise it's still a good alternative.

Do what YOU want. YOU. You are not put on this Earth to follow orders from others. As long as you are not harming anyone else then do it. KEEP IT.
It really isn't that complicated.
I bought my first mobile phone in 1989! From that time I have literally owned hundreds of them. I cant think of a brand I have not owned but bet I could mention one or two most of you have not heard of! lol
This Note 7 was something else. It was so much more than 'just' a mobile phone, it just felt superb to own and to hold. It was so feature rich that I have had to keep out of numerous threads here where the OP is asking what to exchange the Note 7 for? The answer is literally so simple. There is nothing presently on the market that combines all the features, quality and performance that the note 7 does-did. Sure some have this or that feature but the Note 7 had the lot and many more besides.
I am so disappointed to have had to return my mobile TWICE I just cant write any more on that point.
My only hope is to get another 'tech junkie fix' in March? Failing that...........well lets see.
The Note 7 in some form must live on and Samsung should be hard at word in their R&D department ensuring the Note range continues.
I disagree entirely when the media continually writes reports about the lasting damage done to Samsung. Not at all. Samsung made the recall what else could they do? Though I doubt conspiracy I do think some of the media reports have hidden agendas and a few have been totally false, still, this is what sells the media and its to be expected these days.
I recall with horror the scenario regarding the Asus Transformer Prime.... Asus lead the field in tablet note books yet dropped a massive clanger with the Prime, its GPS and wi-fi didn't work as the inside antennas could not penetrate the metal top cover so we all bought a paper weight. Asus was literally taken to court in numerous countries and even very large petitions where drawn up. Asus ignored the lot and look at them today.
How many of you remember the infamous transformer Prime? I spent 3,000€ two weeks ago on an Asus ROG lap top!
This situation will blow over and the media will soon look for the next bad news they can report on and milk.
I hope Samsung compensate those of us who bought two Note7's and went through the ringer. I also hope Samsung get their act together and help those who are requesting help and support.
Incredible mobile, incredible to own and operate. I truly miss the device every day. I need that bloody pen! Unable to purchase a Note 5 here in Europe and the Note 4 prices have got to a silly point costing as much as the SG S7 edge. I wanted to buy a note 4 but I must force myself to wait till next march. Self control is not my strong point with my tech vice!

The only Phone that is comparable to the Note 7 is the Mate 9. Look it up, due for release next month. Makes you wonder, Mate, Note. For all WE know is it is all part of a long drawn out marketing plan.
Besides the official release date for the Note 7 in Europe was (is still listed as) October 28th. Same exact date the Note 2 was released. And the Note Edge. And the Galaxy View. Hmmm. Pattern Recognition alert!

Ever considered the Note Pro 12.2?
Strange how there aren't many other Samsung devices that utilize the SPen Stylus. Was looking for alternatives to the Note 7 and in lieu of following the 'in-crowd' I went completely in the opposite direction. Eye-ing the Galaxy View right now, along with the Note Pro 12.2, but can't find it currently on sale anywhere!!?
If anything resembles the original Note 7 then we are looking at the Mate 9. Mate? Note? SEE how this works.
IRIS = SIRI It's all the same 'system'.

Yea Samsung has no shortage of unlocked phones to choose from, the remaining problem with grabbing one is no VR comparability still.
I'm locked down to Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S7 or S7 Edge to use my VR, but at this point I'm looking and open to anything even if just temporary.

wait the other samsung phones arent vr compatible..smh super dumb..im thinkin of the note 5 and just rooting it and slapping on a rom but idk that small battery nd no sd card is a bummer
Thanks, OP. Very well stated. I feel exactly the same. I'm keeping mine until they set a deadline for a refund, they block my IMEI, or the Galaxy S8 comes out.
The Huawei Mate 9 leaks look good, but no wireless charging, no S Pen, and no Samsung Pay. Plus the higher resolution curved screen may be China only.

Nope, unless there is and I don't know about it, but I'm pretty sure the VR privliges are reserved for the flagship, with the high specs.
I've thought about the Note 5 and i might be willing to lose the curved screen and SD card at least temporarily. Honestly I had the S6 Edge + before the Note 7 and never ran into a storage problem, used the cloud for stuff and never keep a lot of games or anything on my phone anyways, i leep those on my tablet, between VUDU, Google Play Movies, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Video and Music, storage wasnt an issue. But I'd prefer to never have to go back to no SD card again lol.
Is there a Note 7 rom for the Note 5?
I am exactly glad sharing the attitude towards this beatiful device, no other phone can compare not the Icrapphone or the piCRaPxel
