Beware of auto-sleep cases for Tab S3 - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Accessories

I have discovered that the Samsung Tab S3 is very sensitive the magnets on the third party (not Samsung) cases, and have caused dead spots on a S3 that I then had to exchange for a new one. I have also read posts of the auto sleep getting messed up too.
You can test this by using the pen with a high level of pressure sensitivity, areas affected by magnets become much less sensitive or require greater force than the surrounding are to get a similar brush stroke.
In the video I am using Infinite Painter, but similar tests can be done in other apps.

Yes, it is bad news. I've read this in several reviews of different magnetic lock cases on Amazon, and seen a few photos of dead spots in drawings.
But the Samsung case gets poor reviews because it didn't stay shut and because the tablet is not held in very securely. The keyboard case doesn't let you also use the camera, though as it only just grabs hold of the tablet, I don't suppose it matters.
What bugs me about the Samsung cases is that they don't have anywhere to hold the s pen! The best they can do is a stick on loop that looks as if it could come of easily.

I have an old Asus Nexus tablet from years ago (still works) but my friend used a third party case on it, caused yellow discolouration of the screen around the edges (magnetic flap - not even directly connected to the screen).
Well, as demonstrated here, magnets still screw with electronics (the stronger the magnet, the worse it is); I don't use magnetic cases of any sort for this reason (even if it's light/sensor only) -- also Murphy's law says my cards will probably pass it at some point and will eventually need new ones too .
ETA: It would be easier to see some sort of X-Y position overlay with pressure detection (is there a setting in Developer Options to enable such thing?). Perhaps the device itself is defective? At least warranty should cover that.

Tried 3 cases with covers, now using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWGPP3H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .

That looks interesting but it doesn't appear to have an S pen holder.

Wow... This would totally explain why the *really* expensive official keyboard cover does not cause the tablet to auto-sleep/auto-wake. I feel a lot better about it not having that feature now, actually.

I bought the "Tab S3 9.7 case, KuGi Tab S3 9.7 SM-T820 / T825 case - High quality ultra-thin Smart Cover Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 inch tablet.(Black)" cause some people here said that it didnt auto wake tablet but it also wouldn't mess with spen.
They fix the auto wake problem and at the same time they mess with spen causing the known problem showed on video. Beware of that case. I bought from amazon uk, they will refund me, i only had it on my tablet for five minutes i hope my tablet is ok!

Can you guys please recommend a protective folio case WITHOUT magnets?
I wish I found about this thread a week ago, before buying a cheap one. I was trying out the S Pen when I spotted some places with lower or zero sensitivity while drawing. I thought it was the tempered glass at first, but as I took off the cover, everything worked smoothly. I won't put it back on until I find a good replacement without magnets. Can I get some help? :fingers-crossed:
EDIT: What about this? A comment in my language marks the lack of the sleep/wake feature in cons (which translates to pros). Do you know the KuGi UK brand?

I will surely recommend the MoKo Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 Slim-Fit Multi-angle Folio Cover Case. I had bought other cases earlier and just wasted my money as there magnets affected the SPEN drawings. Moko one is perfect for me now.

i don't know why you have problem but my magnetic case works perfectly since i bought the tablet last month.. i bought this one: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01D64K8L2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Magnetic Case
will a magnetic case really destroy the digitizer? or can we maybe remove the magnet? my magnet is only on the left side of the tab.

I looked this up on Amazon and it talks about auto-wake and magnets. Your's does not have magnets?

Has anyone tried the poetic cases? They have magnets but this seems to be a fairly popular brand. I might have to dig into it and remove the magnets if not xD

If anyone is interested in knowing , this case has 5 magnets and I removed them all. If you're interested in knowing their locations hit me up and I'll be more than happy to share.

Hi All,
Exactly the same problem here, even with the flap folded round the back ready for use, this is enough to make the pen very unresponsive, let the flap hang down and pen works perfectly, perhaps the metal strip in the flap gets magnetised due to constantly touching the magnets,
I have now ordered this case from Amazon UK, along with a couple of stick on stylus holders, I will attach these inside the back cover of the case then fit the tablet in:
KuGi Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 case ,Ultra Lightweight Semi-transparent Smart Cover Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7-Inch Tablet w/ S Pen SM-T820 / T825 (Black)
Trev

For those of you that did have issues with the sensitivity, does it do permanent damage or will removing the magnet help resolve this issue? I noticed this the other day and returning the device is going to be next to impossible considering my deployment schedule. Or does anyone have a fix for this without a replacement device?

The magnets were rightly placed so no issue with Spen and drawing apps.

What about the "ProCase"?

Sorry but I'm not sure what the issue is. Does magnetic cases actually destroy the screen or is it just interfering with the usage of the pen?

Hmmmm.... I'm having a similar issue as you can see in the following video
https://youtu.be/kaPxqq5Aqn0
However I'm not using any third party cases. I'm just using samsung's keyboard case.
I bought my tablet at November 12 (less than a month) and I just created a service request. I'll keep you posted on any news.

Two more Good Cases for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 From Poetic

I bought both case from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-StrapBack-Samsung-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00FNCSTLM/
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimbook-Samsung-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00FNCSS2W/
I have read review about the Slimline for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is Good. I have myself to purchased Slimbook and Strapback as well. Got it today and want to add them to recommend case list. Here is my review:
First one is the Slimbook.
This case takes on a leatherette folio design. The Note 10.1 slides into the interior leather cradle, sitting snugly inside with all ports accessible. They’ve cut a hole on the spine for the charging port to be used even with the cover closed. The cover folds into a stand by folding back and tucking into a notch on the back of the case. It’s a simple but effective solution. Of course from this stand you can either lay it down to type or prop it up to watch a movie. Some other nice touches include a stylus loop, card and microSD pockets on the inner cover, and the thick handstrap that is meant for one-handed usage when folding the cover back.

Second one is the Strapback.
The StrapBack is the ideal complement to the Galaxy Note 10.1. Thanks to the large, gorgeous screen on the Note, more often than not I am watching a video when I’m using the device. Have a case that doubles as a multi-angle stand is great convenience, and the stout, yet not overly bulky, protective hard back, is a good compromise.
Some additional features on this case sweetened the pot. I like the handstrap on the inner cover which, when the cover is folded back, aids greatly in one handed usage. All four available angles offered by the grooved cover is useful, especially for typing and for watching movies on my bed. I use the second groove when sitting up in a chair, usually as I’m eating and YouTubing (ah, the pleasures of modern life!).
The build quality on the case is great for the price; buttery smooth leather (synthetic I believe) all through gives this a premium feel. I can recommend the Strapback enough if you’re looking for a well-padded and feature-rich case. A worthy companion to the 2014 Galaxy Note 10.1.
Got those for 4.95 USD each at the introductory period, both add up less than 10 bucks.
I have the note 8 and I'm currently using the bottom one on it. Nice case with one exception, I purchased it Because I didn't like the bezel being covered (which this case doesn't cover the bezel) and because it doesn't, it doesn't protect it very well either.
My tablet slipped off an edge one day and landed vertically (on its edge) and slammed right on the edge of the tablet with no protection whatsoever (it was in the current case). Fortunately no actual harming damage was done, just a scar to remind me every time I see it as to why I should have a full cover Case. Btw, I've NEVER dropped or damaged a device before, so I thought I was Ok.
I already ordered a tpu case for my note 10 for when I get it, it won't be my full time case but for those times at home when I don't want to sport the full case I'll still have bump coverage. Lol
Are the cases magnetic? ie. those it work along the lines of the samsung smart cover? And will it work with the Daynote app ? (I keep forgetting the name, but I mean the ones that starts up when you open the smart cover) (anyone help me out with the name?)
Anyone tested these :

I have the MoKo Slim fit and I like it. It's magnetic and day note worked. I disabled it as I don't need it but it did work. My only complaint is that the case grips a little too near to the part button on the top left - makes it tiny bit harder to get to the power button.
Does any one the Poetic Slimeline case?
I have been looking at this case but I can find out if the cover will flip all the back against the back of the tab 180 degrees
Please let me know if you have one

I definitely agree with you. I read this post and ordered the Strap Back case. It was $9 shipped and all, and is an awesome case. It DOES work with the day note app thing , although I really don't like that app; is ugly and blank looking. This case is solidly made and has all the right cut outs. It also had the right stuff when it comes to watching a movie at an angle or typing. Great case, really cheap, just what I needed. Slim and solid, covers all the corners, protective and durable. Good case.

What about the issue that cover pushes against the home button and wakes the tablet up? This was a repeatedly reported issue with this case.
Therefore I am considering moko.

I've got a blue Poetic Slimline and I love it!
The cover flips back perfectly flat to the back of the case. I think that's what you were asking?
I also have the Moko and the VSTN Slim Smart Cover Case. I feel that the Poetic Slimline is easily the best case of the three as the Poetic Slimline has a superior, more precise fit and finish. It even has a tiny hole for the microphone which the other two cases lack. The Moko is quite bulky and sloppy in comparision and the fit and the design of the VSTN is not quite as good as that of the Poetic, although it is close. The Poetic is also definitely the slimmest and lightest of the three cases. Of the three, the Poetic Slimline is what lives on my Note at the moment.
Amazon has it for $17 US.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLO8NAO
(by the way, the color of the blue case (which I have) is exactly as it is pictured in the description).
wow, those look like DOG CRAP!
The Moko Slim seems to be the only way to fly, but whatever floats your boat,
I got lucky and ordered 3 of them when they were on sale/glitch for 0.1¢ on amazon.
the Plastic can be a little brittle when trying to take the device OUT of the case however, so be carefull,
Magnetic and launches the calander/note pad on wake too, No weird screen issues as some have reported with the magnet.

I purchased both before Christmas because I knew I was getting the Note 2014 for Christmas. I have been using the slim fit smart shell case almost everyday. The slim fit folio multi stand position has the wake and multiple viewing angles which is very nice. The only thing I don't like about the multi stand, the bottom corners that clamp on to the tablet when you close it, really grip the tablet when you open the case and try and pop it into a tilting position. I haven't had any issue accessing the power button. It basically comes down to how you use the device which case is for you.
Previously I had a Motorola Xoom and LOVED Cover-up cases (coverupaccessories.com) who are based out of the UK. Their comfort shell case is their best design...but they have not provided a model for our Note 2014 yet.

How is it? I know I thought about it but doesn't look like it will give any great protection on the unit's sides if it drops.

I actually had the 8.4 version before, and I can say it's very good quality, and does give good protection, apart from the two edges, during my visit to china I did pickup a few cases, two of them being a clear tpu case which has the opening for the two clip buttons, so the tpu case can be used in conjunction with the official case which does give out full protection.
This is a smoke colour one, I also have a clear one, I also picked up a few other cases, the other two being a wallet type case, all being less than USD 5, I only post these as it's being related to the official book cover.
Too bad the Book Cover is missing a cutout for the earpiece... could come in handy when using the LTE version as a phone.

I'm not sure if they have one for the LTE version, my two wallet case works well when making calls, and I can hear clearly the person at the other end, even without the cutout.
I've got the SM-T715 and the book cover I got with it doesn't have a cutout (I haven't seen any pictures of a book cover case with cutouts so I don't think it exists).
I like the TPU case with the clip button cutouts you showed... I'll try and get one myself, maybe from ebay if I can find it. Hopefully it can also prevent the accidental button presses I've been having when carrying the S2 8.0 with a book cover in my pocket.
My overall impression of the 8.0 Book Cover
+ Stylish
+ Compact
+ Automatically turns on the display when you open it
+ Many viewing angle positions
- Volume and power buttons are too easy to press when the cover is closed, I've had reboots due to the power button being pressed for too long inside my pocket.
- No cutout for the earpiece.
- No protection of the corners/edges if you drop it while opened.

These TPU case being cheap @ approximate 1.50USD, is reasonable, but they don't have a perfect fit, as the back of the tablet is curved, making the case stick out a little, but shouldn't really bother you that much, here are some more photo's with the tablet in.
Thanks for the pics... have you tried it together with the book cover?
I hope the case will fit inside the book cover (which is pretty snug as it is).

Cool... first time I see it. Not sure if I want to purchase a second one just for the cutout though.
I purchased a Griffin Technology Slim for my Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 since I use it outdoors.
Pictures to follow.
It is a rugged case with openings for head phones, USB, etc. It has a stand in the back that allows you to prop it up in Landscape. It has a protective screen that does not inhibit the touch screen so you can easily use fingertip or stylus while protecting the screen from scratches.
More to follow.

Er... What are you talking about? Samsung Book Cover does not even cover the phone connector, which is located at the bottom of the device. No need for a cutout.
I think you are misunderstanding the post, there is a cut out on the book cover for the ear piece for the lte version, the ops has the WiFi version.
I appologize for double posting. If necessary please delete my post regarding Book Cover Tab S2 9.7.
I own one of the original book covers for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and I would highly recommend it for the following reasons:
1) The tablet is protected and still easy to use at the same time, which in my opinion doesn't apply for sleeves and similar solutions.
2) It enables me to put the tablet in a stable landscape orientation, which makes it quite comfortable to write using the internal keyboard.
However, I admit that attaching it was a bit tricky and that so far I did not try to remove it.

Samsung Book Cover Case

Just got this case last night and wanted to share some thoughts. Firstly this case feels premium as you would expect, good quality materials. It covers the front and back but not the edges so for those perfectionists it might not be suitable.
or those that don't know the case just sticks to the tab using magnets, there is no clipping it in, so far I have not had any problems with this but it offers one HUGE advantage in my opinion that I have never had before. When I am lying down and want to hold the tab to read or watch something, pulling the case off to hold the tab and reduce weight is very easy, this is a fantastic design feature (if intentional) as almost all cases add significant weight when holding in your hands vs. standing on a table. To pop the case back on is as easy as removing it.
The two viewing angles it provides are so far fine for me, no isuses. The only improvement I would hope for is the ability to stand the tab vertically but not many cases do this. In all, very pleased with this case.

Ive read mixed comments on this phenomenon in relation to the samsung book cover...is the effect temporary or permanent? Is it only when you fold the front cover to the back of the tablet?
Im ordering a tab s3 within the next week or so, (Its essential for a creative project im working on, so no other tablet will suffice, and the galaxy book or tab pro s is prohibitively expensive for a simple experiment, but im specifically using it for art, so the interference is unacceptable)..would i be better off getting a protective case and a screen protector?

Wow, that is wretched.... for being such an innovative corporation, they sure borked this one huh?
Thanks for the quick response... yeah i think im gonna go with a supcase
SUPCASE Galaxy Tab S3 9.7" Case Unicorn Beetle Pro Series Full-Body Rugged with Built-In Screen Protector, Black (SUP-Galaxy-TabS3-9.7-UBPro-Black/Black)

Seems like a much better choice.
I just tested with Samsung keyboard case and the pen works with no problem on it, may be newer versions of Samsung book cover solved the issue.
I don't have any of these issues and I have a magnetic case that looks like an old composition notebook. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0725CL4QV/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is not related to the case. I have the keyboard case and got the same issue (see video) very soon after I purchased the tablet. Returned it to samsung and they just replaced the screen. No problems since then and I'm still using the keyboard case.

Exactly! It is not related to the case. It seems to me more related to problematic digitizers, as in my case the problem appeared about a month since I bought the tablet and after the repair it didn't happen again although I'm still using the cover.

Yes it started suddenly. Actually one day it just didn't work (I'm using s-pen and notes at least 3-4 times per week) and during the first month since I received it.
wow, yeah not auto-wake cover related.
Okay, so to be clear: the samsung book cover case for tHe tab s3 does not interfere with the s-pen digitizer?
Yeah I am also interested on that. I'm about to buy the S3 and want to be sure about it.
Anybody? Does the oem book cover magnets interfere with the s-pen digitizer in ANY way?
[Edit: im reading over this convo and it seems pretty clear, the supcase though is awfully bulky...im not sure how mich id use the keyboard case, id rather get oem especially with all the poor reviewx for 3rd party cases.../edit]
I was so paranoid about all the conflicting reports about magnets, that I was determined to use only a case with no magnets of any kind, anywhere. I found one. See the recent thread about "ZERO-magnet" cases.

flip case with auto wake?

Anyone found a flip case with auto wake feature for the oneplus 7 pro?
Too bad OnePlus does not provide this cover with launch ?
Not seen the OnePlus version anywhere although there are some flip cases around in both Amazon and eBay.. I'm also waiting for the OnePlus case though..

The ones I saw on Amazon and Ebay are without the auto wake magnet function, still not found a nice flip case....
I ordered this one - https://nillkin.org/smartphones-acc...s-7-pro-accessories/nillkin-oneplus-7-pro-qin. Don't know if it has a magnet but will tell here when I receive it if someone does not beat me to it.

These look nice if a little on the expensive side.. I'd have sprung for one if there was some protection top and bottom. Still might.

In order to a do auto-wake the phone itself has to have a sensor for that magnet. The Galaxy phones have that, for example, but I didn't think the 7 pro has one. I'd love to be corrected if it does.

There are apps that will utilize the proximity sensor on your phone and turn the screen on when opening the case. I used the below app on my S8+ with my Otterbox Strada, it worked without any issues.

Ordered this on ebay:

It looks similar to my OP6 flip case ordered directly from OnePlus that has auto wake/sleep.

So I have 3 flip cases currently, ordered the 4th (the one that looks like the OEM flip case) that's going to be here next week.

You can see them all in the attached jpg.
They each have their pros and cons, none of them are ideal (the Otterbox Strada is my ideal case, a tank that's lasted my old S7e the past 3 years) and NONE ARE SMART COVERS.
The far left in navy is the one on my device right now. Like the form, the color, and corner protection. The drawback is that I question how screen protector friendly it is, as the sides actually curl in PAST the factory-applied protector film. Don't know if the case will will fit with a TGSP installed. My guess is it won't, which is why I'm using it now.
The middle one has the most coverage along the sides, but it's thin compared to the case I just discussed. From my experience with its 6T counterpart, it's relatively durable so it will likely be my go-to when I apply a TGSP. Don't like the form (full-length spine where it folds, front cover is not merged into the back case) as much as the other two.
The one on the right is the Nillkin, a brand I've used since... my Nexus 6? Love the form factor, hate the durability. Expect the case to last for about 3 months before it's starts cracking, chipping, tearing. This one lasted 3 minutes -- one corner cracked when i put the phone in. WTF.

I'd be willing to pay Otterbox more money for a OP 7 Pro Strada case. Such a great case.
Brilliant review reaper000 thanks very much.
Dammit OnePlus get on with the official flip case.
I'm waiting for the Nillkin to be delivered. Oh no! Bad luck with that. Take your advice on the durability.
I actually prefer the full spine so that middle one might suit me. Prefer the complete cover on all sides too. My OP3 somehow got scuffed top and bottom in the official case. I don't seem to need the padding. Never considered the black but that looks ok.
Oh that damn kick stand fold.. Dino why do many cases have that. Hate it. Would try and glue the thing down.
Thanks again. [emoji106][emoji106]

This one says it's smart wake/sleep:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-F...5T-6T-7/153444097176?var=&hash=item23b9fb1c98
Just received the Nilkin flip case in black.
Pleasantly surprised by the quality. Soft cloth inner. Hard plastic full protection holster for the phone. Accurate cut outs. Hard nylon backed combined fake leather back and cover that folds quite flat and out of the way.
Doesn't sleep or wake, although the proximity sensor does already deal with that so not an issue for me. No magnet at all to help the case stay closed.. this is a smart minimalist cover that sacrifices ruggedness.
9/10 from me

Damaged Z Fold 2 by Olixar Case

Hi all
I joined this forum to ask a question about your Z Fold 2 cases.
I purchased an Olixar Z Fold 2 case from mobile fun, unfortunately they no longer sell it so I cant link to the original
For me, I had the case on (front and back) for about a month before I removed the front case to clean the front screen. Upon inspection i can see light marks/scratches on the left hand side under where the case would sit. I attempted to wipe these away with screen cleaner and micro fibre cloth but with no luck!
So now i have an £1800 phone which has been damaged by a £30 case
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
The front case did seem flimsy, as in the left side flexed and sometimes the case would slide off to the right if i was removing it from my pocket for example.....
As you can imagine, im not very happy!

Even the original Samsung Aramid case collect dust and sand under-need and needs to be removed pretty much daily for cleaning. This may be the case why you have the damage. When I was using my Note 20 as an everyday phone, I cleaned my phone every 2 days and it still makes permanent mark around the camera assembly. I was using Samsung Flip cover case. I can't believe the case itself can make such a damage. Do you have a picture of the case?
From the scratches it appears there has been horizontal movement of the case front. I would imagine the folding and unfolding of the device does this, perhaps even the two case parts bump into each other when the device is unfolded?
The problem with this phone is: third party accessory manufacturers clearly aren't testing their products on actual devices which is bad considering this device is different to your typical phone. I've found this with display protectors, even coming across plastic protectors that don't actually like being folded.
I had my inner screen replaced by Samsung as I dropped something on it and turns out they replace the entire casing (based on the product code on the parts ordered). Samsung didn't actually charge me either despite the fact I told the customer service representative over the phone that the damage was my fault. Food for thought that you can get the casing replaced should your screen become damaged, even if at worst you'll be charged £119.
What have Mobilefun or Olixar said? Clearly this is a flaw in the product.

I actually removed my case (very similar case purchased from eBay) and can see a tiny scratch like this forming after only a week. I imagine if I continue to use it, the same thing would happen to my phone. I think this is why most of these cases have a little rubber or sticky material around this area to prevent sliding, and as a byproduct it collects dust and prevents it from scratching your phone. I'll probably order a Spigen case to prevent this type of damage.
Same here with Spigen case

Did that case damage the screen as well? That some serious malfunction. I've been trying to look for something to protect the front of the phone but it looks like there's a dearth of options.

Bad design by Samsung. Samsung left you with a high dollar phone and no way to protect it.
The idea of not having a case on this phone is absurd to me, yet by design it's extremely hard to protect with one owing to its constant movement whilst unfolding/folding. Predictable.
Samsung should have at least a ruggedized version.
And I though the Note 10+ was bad... I stand corrected.
Note: You can try a trick I use to prevent marring and seal out grit. Stretch teflon tape around the sides of the phone in contact with the case. It helps.
The tape is cheap so play with it until it comes out looking good as the first time might not.
