Unlock US Unlocked Moto Z Play? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

I'm thinking of purchasing an unlocked Moto Z Play from Amazon that is for the GSM Carriers. Is there a way to unlock the bootloader and install a rom because everything here seems to be for the international/Chinese versions.
https://www.amazon.com/Moto-Play-Dr...F8&qid=1502424587&sr=1-3&keywords=moto+z+play

I have xt1635-02. It's carrier free, US version and bl should be unlockable.
From the link above, I see that the listed model is xt1645-01 and named as Droid. Droid phone are Verizon version and those phones never had official option to unlock bl. Only if someone find exploit, whish afaik, it's not found for Play Droid.
I would suggest you to buy xt1635-02. It's available directly from Moto, in local stores (Best buy, Fry's...).

The Verizon 'Droid' models of the Moto Z don't have an unlockable bootloader.

This sounds like a good option but the Best Buy website seems to be selling the Droid Version.

Avoid any Verizon Droid version, I believe it's refurbished as well. You can not unlock the bootloader on any Verizon phone other than a developer version which was never an option for the mzp Droid version.

Check this one, it's unlocked, xt1635-02 version. It works with my SIM card, tested in USA, CA and couple of EU countries. Even LTE worked in each.

That's what you probably want. Z Play, unlocked to any carriers, without Verizon bloatware. Notice, there is Droid version:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/verizo...hone-black-lunar-gray/5624229.p?skuId=5624229
And no Droid version:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/motoro...e-unlocked-lunar-grey/5601604.p?skuId=5601604
From the hw perspective those phones are almost identical. Radio part is a bit different to support Verizon LTE and CMDA or more LTE bands for unlocked version.
I bought mine in Fry's, store was just closer that day.

Did you manage to install any roms on it?

Didn't even try, stock rom works just fine. I don't see a reason to go for custom rom for now. Unlocked version does not have any bloadware, except some from Google Like Duo with the latest update.
For sure, bl is unlockable but unlocking bl may cause some apps, like Internet banking, to stop working. There's workaround, however. Also I like what Moto added to the stock rom. Even that can be disabled.
I would recommend you to walk to the nearest Best buy or Fry's and check the phone. They already have Z2. Improved version (be careful to avoid Verizon version) but with smaller battery...
Btw, I think, US version of the phone has more LTE bands than EU. Don't buy Chinese version (-03). It's coming without Google services. Then you have to unlock bl...
This is how suppose to look about screen.

Sorry I posted it there because I originally thought it was a European version and tried to unlock it. When I went to the LG page it could not find my suffix? So i came back to where people were talking about unlocking the different versions and asked what version I had.

No carrier bloat at all
I believe he just has a normal, "locked up tight", H815 model. Just because it was won does not mean it is any different than the normal H815 that I own which cannot be unlocked either. There are different models for different countries and you need to look for the country code to determine if it's the EU variant, which it looks like it is not as it would have been sold in that area anyways. I think you just have the standard H815 like many of us do, and it's NOT unlockable, which is why you are getting that message at LG dev.

LG G4 future forecast of custom ROMs

Is there a future forecast for custom ROM support for the LG G4. I'm thinking about buying the G4, but I'm not sure. The custom ROM community for the G3 is great. Do you guys think that in about a year or so the G4 custom ROM community is also very active?
Only few variants of G4 got bootloader unlocked for now. The rest are having to stay with stock ROMs. If you want to customize your phone consider buying a G4 variant that can get bootloader unlocked. Or get a Nexus
Yeap same here im also g3 user but now g4 with locked bootloader in g3 i flash every roms

how about locked bootloader for 70% of the variants and loosing warranty for the other 30%.
i never unlocked my bootloader on S3/Note1/4 but i could install ROMS even with the less open Exynos phones has better support that this locked down, horrible DPI, fantastic camera, average battery G4. of course this is my mistake for trying out a LG phone, should have waited a month and got the Note 5 or simply went with S6 Edge.
I don't think it's a mistake to have chosen a LG phone. In my opinion, it's a very good phone with two issues: two high resolution (no one needs a higher resolution on a 5,5 inch phone than Full HD in my opinion) and therefore a weak battery...but besides, I think it's great. And hey, CM exists though and that's just not that bad at all.
How can I be sure that the bought - or yet to buy - LG G4 is bootloader unlocked? I'm thinking about buying the G4 at a web-shop in the Netherlands. I contacted the technical department of the web-shop and they told be that most of the models are bootloader unlocked. But they gave no guaranty. They said it is impossible to look at the model number beforehand.
Is there a site available where you can check the model number if it is bootloader unlocked or not.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks my man. I did see you're recommendations, but thing the is that the phone's mentioned by you are far more expensive compared to the G4. There is a offer where you can buy the phone for € 359,- and you get a voucher worth of € 75,- that you can use at the bigger warehouses here in the Netherlands. So that's kind of a no-brainer compared to the purchase price of the Note 5 or Nexus 6p.
The only thing that's keeping me worried is the custom ROM community. Some people mentioned that if the bootloader is unlocked you're free to flash custom ROMs. But how interested is it for programmers to invest there time in the G4?
i dont know what a voucher is lol and googled it got nothing
anyway the boot-loader thing is really annoying and LG is giving no promises about it so its not promising to get an unlockabale version
i have h815p and whatever customization I do on stock it can never be compared to custom kernel and rom
so you must be sure of the model you buy to be unlock able
Good luck

sticky shi..., bootloader must be unlocked, especially for that price.
Anyway, I do not need Android phone without root.
There's a statement from Deutsche Telekom answering a query from a German tech blogger that Pixels bought via that provider will also be bootloader not unlockable.
I still doubt that cause they haven't done that before. We'll see and cross our fingers...

Using an unlocked variant on Verizon?

I don't know what the hardware differences are between the different carriers' models. Can I use either of the bootloader-unlockable/rootable variants (Sprint or T-Mo) on Verizon?
Failing that, has anyone started a bounty to get Verizon rooted and/or bootloader-unlocked?

I started one for Att but have since given up and switched to Sprint. So far I regret nothing. I guess being the two biggest carriers Att and Verizon have a little more push on what manufacturers can and can't do.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the T-Mobile model will work if you're lucky/patient enough to get it unlocked.

From looking at the spec sheets only the Verizon version will work on Verizon. All the other versions doesn't support band 13 by model numbers that in itself gives Verizon the power to block it even if you hack to unlock band 13.

I've been with them for about 11 or 12 years or so and I'm grandfathered in on a very old unlimited data plan that's pretty cheap by today's standard and this being a flagship phone and all...
Anyway I had the pixel XL first and returned it because even it was locked down and got the z2 force just because of the moto mods.
Yeah VZW kinda sux...

The problem is OEMs. They don't want to put in band 13 on all their devices. If they did then Verizon has to comply with Block C rules. Since OEMs don't want to pay for licensing and put in code that Verizon has to open source. They would rather have Verizon pay for it then that comes with restrictions.

It will be SIM unlocked BUT you will have to pick a carrier and it will have the carrier goodies built in. There's no unlocked one without the carrier bloat and built in features. You have to pick Verizon to get it on Verizon iirc, but anywhere you buy the Verizon version it's unlocked anyway.

Is this for real or just clickbait?

Certainly not the US version but if the OEM unlock option is available in settings then I guess it's possible on the few other places that got the snapdragon.

The author made a comment claiming that the OEM Unlock will appear if the phone is left on for a week. Check it out.
I don't think that is correct though. I'm pretty sure my S9 has been left on for over a week and it hasn't appeared.

its not for U or U1 variants... at the same time, the site is not BS because HK/China and LATIN AMERICA devices are also snapdragon..
just bcuz it says snapdragon doesnt mean its USA variants
Why is USA s9/s9+ locked but others are not this seems like Sammy fell into carrier bs making them a bad brand for me I will be buying other brands b4 I'm ever locked down again..
Root ok I can deal with out if need to be but this not able to use Hotspot is driving me crazy to a point I'm considering sim unlocking my HTC 10 and going back to that this is insain

Can confirm, my SM-G9600/DS (Hong Kong Snapdragon S9), has OEM unlock option in developer settings.

A lot of people seem to forget this... If you COO you would do the same. No matter what your mind says. Besides you have the lives of thousand of employees. Millions of share holders that are banking you'll grow and be profitable.
Well nothing on mine Canadian version. NO OEM Unlock
I have a Samsung Galaxy A01 (SM-A015M/DS) Latin American version, Region Panama, with Snapdragon processor. My experience posted here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/how-root-device-samsung-galaxy-a01-t4167509
The OEM UNLOCK appears but all of the usual unlock proccedure produces no Bootloader Unlock when it resets.
