Question about importing..

Ok, this is for all you guys who have imported before. i have never by the way. When the phone arrives and you insert your sim card, att/tmobile for example. will the phone automatically pick up the required signals to stay on your carrier and not roam to another? or do you have to set it to us what you want only?
Also one of the reasons i am choosing this phone is to have a phone that will be ready and capable of handling att's eventual takeover of tmobile. I would imagine that you will have to get an att sim card when that happens. But it is nice to be prepared Thanx

yes, it's governed by the sim card. you put in an at+t sim card, it'll look for an at+t signal. same with tmobile.

Well, the T-mobile SIM card will connect you to the T-mo network. The opposite for AT&T SIM card
It has pentaband HSPA+ though, so you'll get full speed with both networks.

And I'm sure you're thinking of just enabling data roaming. Just remember that if you're using a T-mo SIM card, your phone can't just magically start using AT&T for no reason...

Sure, you could click Network operators and see both networks listed. You would be denied from connecting to the network that doesn't match your SIM though.
Is the knownledge really so bad about GSM in the US that this seems like some kind of dark magic? It must really suck to be so controlled by the carriers whim. You can see it like terrestrial TV. When searching for channels you will pick up all channels that are broadcast (providing the signal is good enough) but you can't actually watch them unless you pay for them.

Yes, it is this bad. No one knows how it works. Not their fault, its the fact that they think that the carriers are the ones that make the phones and give them to consumers, rather than the consumers purchasing phones and using the carriers as dumb network providers.

Just remember, it doesn't matter where in the world the phone comes from. If it supports the bands for the Network/SIM you're using, just put in your SIM and don't worry about it lol. Don't think of it as being an "international" phone. Its just a GSM phone.

I was on T-mobile USA a few years ago when living in the States; started off with pre-paid and moved to a contracct plan. From what I remember, the pre-paid SIM cards don't let you roam on Cingular/AT&T but the contract SIM would. It depends on inter-carrier arrangements so it's best to ask a T-mobile rep about this.
And in doubt, I'd suggest disabling data roaming if you're in area where you can't reliably connect to your normal carrier!

There was a reason why I wasn't posting anything here. I knew stuff in US was a bit different....... So like what hircus said, ask a T-mobile rep.....
In Malaysia where I live, the only contract phones that actually sell in great numbers is the iPhone. Our contracts plans are quite bad and buying an unlocked phone and putting your own SIM card is a cheaper on the long run. Oh, (not too sure for the iPhone), in Malaysia when you buy a phone on contract, the phone is not "locked" to a specific carrier... go figure......

yes, the market is sim card dependent you'll get the US market and services (like google voice), no worries.

according to the Bestbuy Ad it is the i9250m or HSI925BR

Since it's for Bell and Virigin in Canada, it can only possibly be the GSM/HSPA+ version. The CDMA/LTE model is specific to Verizon and won't work for anyone else.

i can almost bet damn Bell will not sell those phones without a contract like Telus / Rogers did with launch phones

Hopefully some Canadian friends will find out for us if this thing has microSD slot, because Samsung Ca website list that it does, but BestBuy Ca website doesn't say so.

I just got back from bell and put my $50.00 deposit and yes there are selling the phone outright. $649.00 and it's 16gb..

Does anybody know if the Canada version will have Tmobile USA 3G/4G bands? I'm thinking it may be cheaper overall to buy the Canada version then it would the UK/International version.

I'm using the phone right now. There's no external memory slots.

I talked to Bell about 2 days ago, you have to be already a Bell customer or a new customer on a new contract, to buy. They will not sell outright at least for the first month of sales.

I'm planning on buying on Thursday and using my Telus SIM. I don't mind buying a 30 Day for $30 to get it a month early. I'm already paying $649.99 plus taxes for the phone. What's $30 after that?
What I am hearing is some confusion as to whether Bell is locking the phones. I thought that was just them assuming, until I heard that some UK carriers had locked them too. Has anyone heard anything definite about locked/unlocked?

I'm gonna guess they'll be unlocked but I have no solid information, just using the Nexus S last year as a proxy (was never sold locked in Canada despite what the carriers said).
Also it might be easier to get it from Virgin Mobile if you want to just buy it outright, which is what I'll try - their supertab or whatever dumb thing they call it then just cancel immediately after.

heck even just across the street inside Eaton Center lower level there's a cell phone kiosk there that does unlocking

If you buy if from Futureshop or Best Buy you will be able to buy it outright. If you go to a Bell store they won't let you buy it without signing up for at least one month of service.

Probably another 35 or so for "activation fee" if you do that. I think they only waive the fee for new contracts.

I'm trying to activate my nexus but sprint can't seem to...

hi, i just bought my nexus brand new on ebay, i turned to play with it this mourning and then took it to sprint to get it activated. the lady told me that the phone cant be activated, that it doesn't show as stolen or anything but that it cant be activated

Doesn't sound like a definitive answer. I would talk to someone else. There is always a reason why.

Did u buy a GSM or CDMA phone. U need to make sure it was the sprint version not the Verizon or the GSM version.

A sprint store should be able to figure it out. If it's a brand new phone I don't see why not.

I'm having the same problem-- but with Verizon. Bought it from ebay, in great communication with the seller who is trying to help.
Phone isn't stolen/lost; no outstanding balances on the phone or my plan.
Factory data reset didn't help one bit. Can't activate fully-- just get internet (no calls/texts).

Did you get a new 4g sim card with your new phone? Or a sim replacement? You need to activate the sim card, but as long as its already activated, any device should work.

Yep, this is the third new SIM (LTE) card. Been to both the store and on the phone with Verizon tech reps.
Tech reps say activation is "stuck at the switch" (this is day 3... btw)
should I unroot it? I've already done 2 factory data resets.... Or should I just wait it out?

Are you on a ROM?
I know someone who couldn't get it to activate the Sim while on a custom ROM (liquid i believe)
They ended up putting the Sim in display nexus, activated, put Sim back in his and it worked lol

A lot of custom roms do not have all the required proprietaries needed for such things like sim activation. Or they include them, but do not sign them correctly.

I don't suggest asking them to put it in a display device to activate....i don't think they normally do that and will probably look at you like you have spiders crawling out your nose lol
Just put it on a stock ROM
When i got my nexus it came with liquid on it unlockedrooted
i just flashed the 4.04 stock ROM build that bird man compiled found over at rootzwiki and it got activated
At this point you have the option of putting the official stock 4.04 vzw build on it tho which i would recommend, preferably one without any tweaks, rooted should be fine tho
To the OP, try putting your self on a stock ROM for sprint and you should be gravy

so they told me that it cant be activated because it was bought under someones else account. supposedly i can only activate phones bought through sprint

Unlocked US vs T-Mobile version?

Does anyone have any insight on the difference beside the Tmo apps that can be download from Google Play? Some things that popped to mind that maybe cooked into the Tmo ROM: Wifi Calling, newly unveiled Enhanced Voice Services and VoLTE?
The Vegas unboxing video showed Des opening the app drawers that have only 1 full first page plus a few apps on the second page. I see T-mobile TV app and another magenta icon. It's very minimal, which is a good thing, but not sure how update- and developer-friendly will the T-mo version be though.

As far as being developer-friendly, the T-Mobile version is no different than the carrier unlocked version. It's bootloader can be unlocked officially through HTC and thus can be modified to the same extent.
As far as updates, the unlocked version will get updates quicker than the T-Mobile version. This is simply because the updates will be coming from HTC and not need to go through T-Mobile carrier approval first.

Wrong, it has a service ceiling of over 15,000 feet. However I will argue that no where in that video were they ever at 10,000 feet.

Mo just confirmed that the unlocked version supports VoLTE/Wifi calling.

Yeah pretty much. You'll be good to go. I can do this on my unlocked s7 edge but I don't get volte and wifi calling on tmobile because it's not baked into the international firmware

The other advantage is you can use T-Mo's installment plans that aren't available thru HTC.
Updates may be slower as T-Mo has to bless them. At it's also unclear if HTC's uh-oh protection and bootloader allowance will carry over thru T-Mo.

it says for well qualified purchases - so if you have less than perfect credit you wont get it
and it says no payments + no interest if paid within 12 months - unless you wait and make a $599+tax payment in month 12 you need to be making payments to avoid paying interest.

It's true but if you read the fine print on T-Mobile's site for financing phones the best deals (zero down usually) say for well qualified buyers as well. Also why wouldn't you make monthly payments? I didn't say there was no monthly payments, I said it was interest-free for 12 months.
Anyway my point is there are options.

I'm still not sure which model to go with: unlocked vs T-Mobile. Will T-Mobile Mobile HotSpot for tethering be able to work on the unlocked version?

I'm not him, but I chose to go with the unlocked version vs. the T-Mobile version. Faster updates, won't have extra glued-in apps I don't want.
But who am I kidding, I'm on XDA, I'll have a custom ROM on this thing soon anyway.

With the $100 off HTC1008 coupon code, I'm leaning toward getting unlocked directly from HTC. Mo Versi's tweet (HTC VP Prod Mgmt) confirmed wifi calling/VoLTE are supported on the unlocked. This still leaves out T-Mobile newly deployed Enhance Voice, but I'm not concerned about that (my current calls with the S5 are just fine, without wifi calling, VoLTE or enhanced voice).

I would definitely buy the unlocked version!!! I just wish it worked w/ Sprint

T-mobile SIM Unlock?

I bought a T-mobile Z2 Force from eBay and it's on the way to me right now.
I have to say I was too excited to get A z2f before I carefully study the post of how to unlock sim lock. I've been searching solutions after I won the bid. It worries me right now since I am not sure whether I can unlock it to other GSM networks (I'm outside of US with no tmobile network around).
Can anyone share some idea please? Anything will be good, thanks.

I'm really thinking about going on a social media campaign against their unlocking rules. They are completely unnecessary for devices purchased outright.

About how long did it take?

So I have 4 days left to return the At&t phone. I went ahead and started a $100 prepaid account and selected the $75 data plan with unlimited everything. Does the account balance need to be $100 or the account plus plan count?

It just needs to be you added $100 to your initial start up cost. So you went to say Walmart and bought the Sim card there. You activate it then put in $100 then that's in. Use the phone for a couple days then request an unlock. That's why people have done on T-Mobile customer forums for the past 6 years or so.

$1. Just needs to exceed $100. Since you didn't buy a kit you need to add $1. I think the lowest you can add is $5 though.

The lowest is $10. I went ahead and did that and called T-Mobile. Now I just have to sit and wait. If this doesn't work I'm going to be pissed.

The device is listed as a return therefore ineligible to be unlocked. Anyone on T-Mobile want it?

I have a SIM card that will allow a Tmobile phone to be unlocked. Has the $100 prepaid balance. Ill sell for $50.
My previous device had a strange issue with the IMEI, so I returned it. TMobile customer service says I am absolutely eligable. Device just needs to be paid off and come up as clean on T-Mobile's esn check.

Edited to block phone number and email address. The phone's IMEI comes back as clean on T-Mobile and swappa.

That's odd. If it is marked as return I think someone may have bought the promo sold one and returned the other instead of both. Then sold you the other.
Check with T-Force on Twitter and see if they can give a better explanation of it.

I don't have Twitter. I have yet another unlock request pending, but I'm not expecting anything to happen. I have it listed on eBay. This whole situation has been incredibly frustrating.

You can also use Facebook but Twitter gives a way faster response. May be worthwhile just to make a Twitter account just to talk to them.
