(Q) Which charger to buy on Amazon - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

I currently have a few different Aukey and Anker charger bases and cables. My Anker cable charges with "turbo charging" but only when used with the stock charger base that the phone came with. I just need to know what the fastest charger and cable combination is. Would love to be pointed in the right direction.

Car chargers

Is it possible for different car chargers to make huge differences in charge times? Like a verizon charger doing it in less than half the time of a walmart special.

It's possible, I know wall charger vary. The HTC charger that came with my phone is 5V at 1A I believe and the budget special charger I bought is 5V at 550mA (.55A). With any of the fast charge kernels (pre 2.2 and 2.6.32.17) I noticed a huge difference between the two chargers. I'd just look at the specs on the charger and get one closer to the factory wall charger.
i have a 1a charger thats the same as the wall charger.
its just the little plug that you stick in the ciggarette outlet and plug a usb cable into

i got mine on sale for like $12.99. barely sticks out of the outlet, never had a problem with it

OEM charger output vs. high output car charger

IIRC the stock wall charger is rated at 1.8Ah. But, what is the phone's actual draw? Does it ever get up there near 1.8mAh?
I'm just trying to figure out if a car charger with "only 1000mA" will be sufficient. I'm guessing that the OEM wall charger is rated well above whatever the phone might ask for, but as to how much, I don't know.
I'm actually looking at these two right now as they both seem to give a pretty high output for both Android and Apple devices.

My experience with other phones is that the phone draws exactly what the stock charger gives it. I'd imagine it's the same with this one. 3140mah is a lot of battery to charge.

I'd agree. I charged it the first couple days using the OGP wall charger and USB cable from my Nexus 4. It took all night. Switched the cable with the one in the box, and it charges in like an hour!
I have a 2.1a car charger, and the OGPro charges in exactly the same amount of time as the stock wall charger.
Oddly, it charges slower from my 2a Note II charger.

Which car charger do you have?
I'm looking on amazon and all of the 2A+ charges I'm finding are for Apple crap.

Im looking at all of the chargers from Anker on Amazon. It seems they have the best positive reviews of anything I've seen. Although the 3.6 watt (white unit with either 2 usb ports or one port and a micro usb cable) unit is newer than the 3.1 (black heavy duty), the black unit can give the full 3.1 watts to either port or split it amongst the two ports. And according to Anker, either port will work for Apple or android. They suggested i get the newer (white) unit, but i want to have the full 3.1 watts available to a single port for future h higher powered devices.
I'll have to check those out. I've been looking at this one, which has good reviews on it.

My concern with that one is that it gives a total of 2.1A. So if you charge your OGP using one usb port, there's only 0.3A left for the other port. The disclaimer at the end of the description says that if you are charging an iPad to not use the second port. I'm guessing that warning would also apply too us with the high draw OGP. It also states that the blue light gets even brighter in the dark. You might need to cover the led if it's too bright, but that's a personal taste thing, and it might not actually be that intrusive. Lastly, do you have enough room in your vehicle to rest both your phone, and the head of the charging device? I have a dual outlet 12v supplier in my car, but i bought one that has no cord. The two outlets are rigidly mounted right at the end of the cigarette lighter plug.
I bought a Griffin Powerjolt single USB at Walmart. It only charges at full speed using the OGPro's stock cable. Any other cable is slower, and the cable from my old S2 gives me a "Slow Charging" notification.
Anyway, this charger is just a stop-gap. I'm going to be hard wiring two USB plugs into my truck's 12v system (with some 5v regulators and an Add-a-Circuit).
I was looking at the 3.6A charger, here's the link on amazon.
As I expected, one port is for Apple and one for Android. This is very irritating because I need to charge my OGP while my fiance charges her OG at the same time on trips.
Can our OGP charge at full speed on the Apple port?
Edit: I just read that the kernal in Android 4.2 fixes this issue so we can charge in any USB charger, including apple chargers. I'm guessing LG devices still on 4.1 won't benefit from this update.
Shouldn't going to Settings > PC Connection > USB Connection Type and then setting it to "Charge only" force the device to see any cable as a charge only cable thus making it charge faster?

As per Anker, the Apple port will charge Android at full speed. I have not verified this myself as I have not gotten mine yet, but that's what I'm told, and expect. I'm waiting for their wall charger to come back in stock as the shipping will be free if l order both.
I ordered the black 3.6v version. I'll get it Monday or Tuesday since I have Prime.
Are there any apps that detect how much juice the battery is getting?

Same here. I've been using the charger from my old Atrix. I may get LG's charger out of the box tonight to see if it's any faster.

I just bought a 4.2 amp dual usb car charger, so I can charge my OGP and any other device without issue.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/42-Amp-Dual-USB-Car-Charger-iPod-iPhone-3s-4-MP3-HTC-/320779507652
I just got the amzer 3.6a charger and sure enough I get the "slow charging" on the apple port. I'm going to sacrifice a usb cable and re wire it so it'll work for now.
Can't wait for Android 4.2 to fix this issue.

Any info on how to rewire (Web link) would be appreciated.
What is it that 4.2 has that will fix it?
Here's the link for the charge cable mod

I just made the charge cable linked in the post above. It works like a charm
I also purchased This wall charger which works perfectly fine with our phone on both the "A" and "NA" port.
I'm willing to bet this car charger made by the same company as the one linked above will work also.

I wonder if you'd want the USB Wall Charger 2.1A - Black. I can't tell from the description if the one you linked is only going to deliver .5A to the phone.
This Wall Charger has two USB A female ports, one on each side, and provides a total of 1A of charging power.

So if you only plug a cable into one side is it going to send the full 1A through that cable or is it only going to send .5A which would be a slower charge. The SG3 is listed in the description for the 2.1A charger.
Monoprice cables are great. I use them with my chargers. I don't have the premium ones though. I bought this one: 6ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/28AWG Cable
I'd love to hear what other users have to say.
I bought the premium cable from monoprice, and it works great.

[Q] Best Charger for OPO

So I'm looking to buy some additional chargers for my OPO. But unfortunately you cannot buy the official charger seperatly. Are there any 3rd party chargers that work just as well? I have a few at home that just don't seem to charge the phone fast enough (also, I think it does not hold the charge as long with these chargers, but that could be the placebo effect.) What should I be looking for in a good charger? Is the wall piece more important that the USB cord. Does the type of USB cord even matter if the wall piece has the right "specs". Any suggestions for chargers to buy (preferably on Amazon since I have Prime).
Thanks for the help!
Definitely look got chargers with high A. I noticed that on my old chargers were the A was 1.3, it would not charge the phone or would charge very slowly. The stock charger is great, I use a different USB cable so it's longer in length.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo.../hands-best-fastest-cheapest-nexus-5-t2729066 is a good charger, for $5 you can get two of them. They're 1.8A slightly less than the stock oneplus one charger but works very well and the length is very long and is cheap.

5v=2a
yeah most of mine are around 1a
The galaxy S4 and up chargers are 2A. If you can find some around somewhere.
The OnePlus charger is a 2A 5V part and the included USB cable charges it relatively fast. However, the small length of the cable pissed me off.
I ended up getting 2 of these - http://www.siig.com/it-products/it-accessories/mobile-phone-accessories/3-1a-ac-dc-usb-charger.html . It has a little 1A USB charge port addon for use in the car's 12V port. The main USB port on the charger is a 2.1A port if I remember correctly. Charges as fast or faster than the OnePlus charger included.
The charger has a little removable two-prong plug (like the Apple chargers) and you can stick any random two-pin power cord on this end, basically giving you as much length as you need. That's what I liked a lot about these. Annoying thing though is the blue LED, a bit bright but nothing electrical tape won't fix.
EDIT: Use any charging-only cable, one of the Samsung 2A cables or the Oneplus One cable itself for fast chargng.
I just got this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GTGETFG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GF8TIK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
coupled they are killer. The anker hub is amazing...will provide PLENTY of power to anything plugged into it, and the mediabridge cable is 24 AWG, so it can handle the 2amp that the phone requires...plus it's very long.
the blackberry playbook chargers work great. they have long cords and are < $5 on amazon.
i ordered these: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00K8HY132/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
they charge fast and work well.

I recommend this one!
If you're looking for more that 2 ports on a relatively small charger, this is the one I purchased and recommend.
Car Charger Quick Charge 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LCFEQM4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_A.SdybV6MV82R
I ordered this duel QC3 one and it's been working great

It works for my wife's v20 and my note 4 as a quick charge. I also bought USB C cables and micro usb to c connectors which have been working great as well.

Is probably one of the best deals on Amazon. Might be cheaper on ebay but I trust Amazon a little more. Only used them for a few days so we'll see how long they last. Good luck!
I ordered this charger:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B2BMIMS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also ordered this cable:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GO45EQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For some reason though, it'll charge my phone but it won't quick charge it. The lockscreen just says "charging" rather than "fast charging".
Anyone with this charger have the same issue?
I just plugged the usb cable which came with the phone into usb port and it works great
