Moto Z2 Screen Scratches - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Hi
New to this site but read an article you guys wrote on the new Z2 having issues with the front screen scratching easily. I purchased the phone 2 weeks ago and am enjoying it. But have noticed several scratches on the front screen. I am bit anal when it comes to protecting my screens on all my phones so this issue has me worried. All have done was put the phone in and of my pocket and there is definitely seems to be a problem.
I called Motorola and they agreed there was a problem with the screens and sent me a link for replacement. When I clicked on the link they wanted $29.99 to replace. The phone is only 2 weeks old and so far everything is great about it, I even purchased a few mods. But what good is a phone with amazing graphics when your screen is covered in scratches.
Any one having same issues ? Any advice on how to remove the scratches so I can put a stronger screen protctor ?
Thanks

What is the link for the screen? I too have little fine scratches on my screen of my Moto Z2 Force of course due to the type of material it is made of. I just want to replace it and put a screen protector on and should be good to go. Scratches are the only complaint I have about my Z2 Force to look on the positive side. I am more than happy with it and I had no idea when I bought it that they would have mods for this phone ! So what a fantastic surprise..

Scratches here are not a problem. Here all ok with the screen, just crackle by pushing the screen and battery just 2677mAh after few months. The battery is dead before anything going wrong with the screen, right? But great device. No screen protector needed here, no scratches.

Dust under dEsire screen...

I notice a piece of lint under the glass on my desire. Not highly noticable, but still... I suppose its kind of impossible to make a screen thatsize and have it sealed with zero foreign objects undreneath? I read that this was a common problem with the nexus one. not sure if its common on Desire, or if the dust was there when I bought it, or got in in the last 3 days.
I wouldn't consider replacing it or anything, not over that. Maybe over a dead pixel, buit not some lint. anyone else notice anything under their glass?
yup got same, a tiny piece above the menu key, about 2 mil from the bottom edge of the screen. not enough for me to send it back though.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yeah I read quite a few threads on the matter. Theres a good chance you'd get the same in a replacement model so not worth it if its minor. Loving the phone though. some piece of kit
I didn't notice anything under the glass screen so far. I got mine on March 27th.

Well that's not true. I have had an HD2 for several months now and as we know it has an even bigger screen than the desire.
My point is that I have absolutely NO dust particles under my glass. I have looked and looked, under sunlight etc. NO dust. Why? Cus on the HD2, the LCD is glued to the glass/digitizer wich makes it impossible for dust to get in. On the Desire, I believe this is not the case wich means dust will eventually build up under there with time.

Alas you are right. I have more dust under my screen than I did when I got the phone 2 months ago. So... I guess it's not airtight. well, not that I expected it would be. maybe they could not glue the amoled screen to the digitiser/glass in the amoled screens. who knows.
solution
ive posted a reply about this on the phone restarting thread. essentially htc said that BOTH the dust and phone restarting are their problem so ive had the phone replaced within a week
This is a massive problem with the Topaz. Dust gets in by the top of the volume key. Thankfully it's only noticeable with the phone switched off, so it's not serious issue, just very prevalent.
HTC need to improve their sealing process between digitisers and their screens.
I had dust under the screen after 1 week on the left hand side. Pretty bad design fault from HTC if you ask me. On my old HTC Magic dust came in from the speaker grille and then fell down from the top of the screen.
Back on the desire though I got a case and screen protector from amazon and no more dust has appeared since then.

Cheers. I've contacted support, but I doubt they would replace the phone. We'll see.

They offered to take it in for repair (as opposed to replacement). Ah well. I'll hold onto it as its minor. I heard of some guy on here sending it off for repair only to get it back with more dust in it than originally.
I think the best thing is to examine the unit on the first day of purchase with a fine tooth comb. If anything is wrong then send it back to clove or hantec or whoever for a direct swap replacement. Next time... When Desires future heir is born I will do that.

One X screen very prone to scratches

Hi,
I have got my One X for about 2 weeks now and there are multiple micro-scrathes on its screen already... (some of them are covering half of the screen). They are only visible when the screen is off and under certain lighting and angle, but it is quite annoying - I am worried how would the screen look like after a couple of months.
I am very careful with the phone and never keep it in my pocket with any other items. I have got HD2 previously for almost 3 years and with the same usage pattern its screen hasn't got a single scratch.
I suspect it is not Gorilla Glass that gets scratched, but some kind of coating (oleophobic?) on the screen.
Is your experience similar?
Dude there something with the screen. Its sh1t. i dropped the phone yesterday from my bed and on the right top of the screen there is a brake on the screen and some scratches too.I had Galaxy S and i dropped it several times and from higher position than bed and non a single scratch i dont mention the ****ing brake.i am already thinking replacing the digitizer .its a fuking new phone its not that i have problem with the broke as long my lcd is working but u know what i mean
was the swearing necessary?
replacing the glass is hard- the screen and lcd are apparently attached and spare parts are expensive, let alone the effort required to disassemble the phone (as the m/board etc are attached directly to the screen)
the screen is also laminated - maybe this coating is getting scratched? i don't know exactly what laminated glass is, just what it achieves.
Its necessary when they say Gorilla Glass should be Gorilla Glass. Its the same screen as galaxy s.Anyway i am afraid removing the digitizer would damage the LCD too by accident and the problem will be larger. so i am not quite ready to do that.i can live with a scratch
Sorry to hear your dramas with the phone.
I have mine now over a month.
I use a flip leather case now, but had none for the first two weeks and I use my phone a lot but with no screen protector and I don't have any scratches on it.
You must have hit something with sharp edges hard.
I had a SG2, never had a screen protector and was exposed as I didn't use a flip case. It never got any major scrathes, but hundreds of tiny ones that could be scene in the right light only.
This is a much better glass in my opinion.
Hope you are able to fix yours without too much trouble.
Cheers.
I too have many minor scratches, it does not hinder its use so I'm alright with it, I was but no longer using the HTC branded flip case that phones4u have me when I upgraded. Offers no protection and is clumsy to answer phone quickly lol.

I have noticed these micro-scratches too (funny I googled HTC One X micro scratches and this page came up). I haven't dropped my phone and I haven't put it in my pocket with anything else. At first I only noticed them in the sun, but now I can see them indoors as well. You have to turn the display off and hold it at an angle to see the scratches, but they are there.
Today i returned mine after 2 weeks it had a scratch in the midle on the screen and it was visible when the screen is off...
I hope they replace it i dont whant to have a scrached phone that costs 700 euro and is suposed to have gorila glass.
And i havent droped it or put it in my pocket with other items.

Are you sure they are scratches? I noticed something similar on my HOX the other day and thought I'd scratched it at first, but the whole screen seems to have that pattern and it's far too regular to be tiny scratches. I think it's part of the screen (digitiser?) as scratches wouldn't look so regular.
Think I have a few on mine now...not gonna get too beet up about it, it's only a phone and will probably be swapping it for something else in six months..... Which will probably get scratched too, lol.

Wow I'm really surprised when I read these posts
My story I had my one x in my pocket no case or screen protector and was in a rush for the bus and just chucked my coins in my pocket not realising it was the same pocket my one x was in and ran for the bus only when I went to get my coins that I realised my phone had been bouncing around with the coins in my pocket like a washing machine while I was running
Subsequently I almost scrapped myself thinking I've commited the ultimate sin I expected to see a crapload of scratches
To my disbelief besides a couple of light scratches on the polycarbonate back that just rubbed off the screen was fine I remember think what?! That can't be right and for the whole bus ride I was furiously examining the screen, holding it on an angle in the light to try and detect even the most minor of scratches and still found nothing ever since then I couldn't stop praising the screen on the one x
The camera lens was also scratch free but I'm thinking that was just sheer luck

Guys I am forced to believe HTC isn't using Gorilla Glass on all models.. I had the Thailand version and it scratched crazy easy. I now have the HTC ONE XL and i can take a key to it..
I have two minor (about 5mm in length) hairline scratches on mine. Inspected my screen at an angle with powerful flashlight just to barely notice them after having read this thread.
I'm not going to be bothered by those, but I am going to do an occasional inspection and if I notice a trend I'll put a screen protector on.
I have some screen protectors for the phone and even applied one, but tore it off immediately because the bare screen is much better to the touch and does not have that stupid rainbow effect the protector had.

maybe some problem from there not using gorila glass.
Get a screen-protector ! I did as soon as I got my phone, why risk it

Yeah, these are definitively legitimate scrathes, very irregular, there is no pattern.
They seem to get worse and worse every day...
A $2 dollar screen protector would have prevented this. Just saying.

I am tired of reading about problems in HOX. I start to think I have another phone no one x. I have it 1.5 month. I have no problem at all.
I am not using screen protector and case. Just a poutch.
Twice I had drop it from the base of the car and hit the screen in different places. No problem.
Usually I put in my pocket without the poutch. There is no scratch on the screen and polycarbonate.

[Q] Broken Screen genuine?

Hi, as you may guessed, broke my screen, quite badly though 95% touch interface still works and have kept it like this for about 2 months.
Now my patience is gone with the major crack lines and some yellow spots. Plus I have to always rotate to interact sometimes due to the 5% dead area of touch panel.lol
I've looked at replacements (as its been said, replace lcd+digitiser) but my question rests on the quality of the parts.
I've read through the forums and seen some ebays links. Are these genuine screen? Are they high quality, to the same quality as the original?
Where is the best place to get them (I'm in the UK). I will replace it myself.
Thanks ever so much.

Hey sad to hear that. I recently had to replace mine since soft keys stopped working, I bought cheap chinese 50usd and to my opinion is quality is at acceptable level - screen is as good as the original one, digitizer and assembly fitted perfectly my only concern is that its not a gorilla glass but other than that its(again in my opinion) is 1:1
Good luck with replacement
p.s If you have troubles with wifi after opening the phone check the threads there is one that shows fix for the bent antenna pins

Thanks peshko69. Yeah, really hurt me when the screen cracked. I guess all the technology in gorilla glass is only for scratches not dropped protection. First time ever I cracked a screen.
I will investigate further. I have found a company that looks very good Rounded.com. They seem to do genuine parts I think and prices are reasonable too.
btw thanks for the wifi tip.

No problem. For safety i would recommend something like http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPU-Gel-Silicone-Skin-Case-Cover-Screen-Protector-For-HTC-One-X-AT-T-LTE-XL-New-/320956130309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&var=&hash=item4aba79e405 & http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-XtremeGuard-FULL-BODY-Clear-LCD-Screen-Protector-Shield-Skin-For-HTC-One-X-/320890807909?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Screen_Protectors&hash=item4ab6952665 - the case wraps around your phone and screen lies 2mm below the case and if dropped the case will absorb the impact( speaking from experience ).
Good luck

There used to be a dropped thread, one guy dropped his from the 2 floor (3rd floor for all you across the pond) and all the happened was the outer shell was crushed in the corner.
Then you get some people he just knock it off a sofa or bed and screen is a goner it's all about the landing.

Moto z2 force screen issue

I really like this phone but am hearing reports of the screen peeling do to a design flaw. I just bought it yesterday.
Should I take the phone back or is this issue only with a few batches of phones?

Dude is your screen peeling? Why would you base your opinion on a comment someone made without knowing they're everyday use of the device? Now if you saw an unboxing video were the screen was peeling I would understand concern. You even got guides on here were people are literally peeling off the top layer of the screen(shattershield) because they like the glass feel better and the bottom glass doesn't scratch as easy as the shattershield. In short, get some some mods and enjoy your device.

[Survey] How many of you have experienced the screen peeling problem?

Hi everyone,
I am seriously considering buying the Moto Z2 Force as a replacement of my old Moto X 2014 (I still love it but my screen got a bit shattered one year ago:crying.
The only thing that is holding me back is that screen peeling problem I heard of. So, after reading some threads I would like to see how spread the problem is by proposing you this survey.
In case you had the issue, it would be very useful for me to know how you solved (got a replacement, removed the shutterproof screen protector, ...?)
Thanks a lot!
Here I am, replying to my own survey!
Unfortunately, not as I would like to...
I bought it and on day 2 I noticed this issue https://youtu.be/KfEjQWtvckQ which is how everything starts I suppose...?? So, I think this will be a "In the first month case".
Now I have to think of what to do:
Keep it and wait for it... (what then?!)
Send it back to seller asking for a refund => Buy another model, other brand (It would be really sad though)
Send it back to seller asking for a change with another one (what if the new one will have the same issue?)
Removing somehow the screen protector and the glue (any tutorials? Will it void the warranty?)
Any suggestion is much appreciated
Thanks a lot
I knot sure what that video was suppose to show. But to me it showed nothing of importance.. I have had my z2 Force for about 2 months with no issues.. Use a screen protector or a case with one, and you should have zero issues.

The video is supposed to show a problem with the shattershield screen where the outer screen protector lense is detached from the inner layer.
Some people on Lenovo forums reported screen peeling issue after experiencing something like the video shows.
On the same forum, some other people claim they had a screen protector on when the peeling started.
Anyway, I contacted Motorola Support and they:
Confirmed that if you remove the outer layer, the warranty is permanently voided for the whole phone... Not good
Suggested me to refer to the seller for a substitution since I am in the first two weeks after buying the phone
Still deciding what to do...
I tried the tempered glass screen protector I ordered.
It doesn't adhere correctly on the top of the screen but especially on the bottom, near the fingerprint scanner.
So, the screen is not perfectly flat.

I purchased a Otter Box Defender, and that might be why I have no issues.. On my G5 Plus I had a Otter Box commuter and a screen protector and they worked well as well.. If your nervous about that pone, best bet might be to replace with a different model.. I sure as hell would. Good luck.

Have the same issue and can hear that. But it seems to be normal. I can push in the screen a little bit. I think it's not the original foil of the top, which is pelling. I think it's hearable because it's plastic and elastic. I can see (by screen on) that's not the foil while I'm pressing the screen in. It's more the complete screen. Would it be the foil, I wouldn't see what I see by pushing in the screen. Plastic is easly elastic. That's all.
Here is an update.
Yesterday I received the other plastic screen protector I ordered.
It fits perfectly, since it's not as rigid as glass.
Since many of you have the same "clicking" noise while pressing the screen, I think I will try to use it in the next days to see how it goes. I have some weeks to think about keeping it or sending it back to the seller.
Hope everything will be ok, I'll keep you updated

It's not the foil, right? That's the plastic which is"clicking". I'm short-sighted and I'm pretty sure that I can see that's just elastic at the bottom. Looks so that the foil is ok and 100% save on the screen. But it's nice to have a elastic screen  No scratches after month. So, don't need a screen protector. The quality seems good. It's like wings of a airplane. Elastic, too And there is all ok, too. Normally

I am not sure it's the foil or not... However, I don't think is the screen which is moving, that's probably more a refraction effect. We should ask to those that removed the protection layer, if they where experiencing this and after the removal it stopped.
Foil or not, if the "clicking" sound is so common even in devices without peeling issues, I will give it a try.
I just need to use it, only time will say if it was a good idea to keep it :fingers-crossed:

Screen is moving down at the bottom, for me it's 100% so. And if I do it carefully, I can see it without hearing it. But yes, would be nice if anyone can test it without the foil. But, I can trust what I see, all real. So, it's the plastic. Hope anyone else can confirm this.
Another problem, what I have seen. I have burn in at the bottom. The navigation buttons keeps/burn in. Now I have set up the moto fingerprint navigation and it should gone next time. And that's really good. Works very well. And the space of the screen is now bigger, nice effect.
But, good to know with the burn in. This smartphones are made for a short time, maybe 2 years. On my computer monitor I have never seen burn ins like that. So, it's a market/business. Screen not made for working over years
And what really is very very good is the battery. Have last time good 8.5-9h sot. So, that's better than many people think.
But back to the screen. That's the topic here. Maybe we have to bring it to the repair center after 1.5 years. Maybe because burn ins, peeling and so on. We will see
If you guys do the warranty replacement through Motorola and not your carrier they will send you a new moto z2 force with a 2nd gen screen if you ask em about it. They have a fix for it lol I just got mine back and it's totally different

What am I supposed to be hearing on my device lol? And idk I just personally call it a 2nd gen screen cause it's easier to explain it like that to the people that I live around in my area ??there not to bright lol. I do know it's not the original shatter screen stuff that was peeling. it honestly was pretty hard for me to understand what my moto agent was saying to me when he explained it so I only caught bits and pieces. My model number is still xt1789-04 TMobile variant. I don't have a clicker also
