Considering getting this phone, but can it to THIS? Opinions needed. - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

1: Can the OnePlus 5T be activated by saying "OK Google" when the lock screen is on?
(The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 I just purchased cannot do this)
2: Can the OnePlus 5T be told "take a picture" and have it actually open the camera and snap a a picture?
(Xiaomi Mi MIx 2, I just purchased) will open the camera app, but NOT snap a picture)
I need to drive totally hands free without having to touch the screen even when the phone is on lock screen.
Thanks!

1. I think only the pixels can do that

My old motorola and old samsung both did that. That sucks. I guess I'll be shopping for a pixel.
Thanks.

1. Can unlock it with Ok Google on secure lockscreen but the screen must be on
2. It just opens the camera

Gratz!
1. Can you record more then 5 mins in 4K60?
2. Does changing to HEVC degrade IQ, or make the video not stop at 5 min if it does?
3. How hot does the phone get on both settings after 5 mins or more?
4. Does zooming ~5x or more, affect quality less then on the other phones ( i have noticed this on some videos) or the quality is the same?
6. Can you turn off video stabilization - eis, and test out 4K30 vs 4K60, and see which one is better quality? what are their bitrates?
7. Did you have S8/N8 before, is it noticable faster then the S8/N8 (with Oreo?)
Thanks

1 - Nope :/
2 - Did not see any difference in quality from the phone - but it does not remove the 5 minutes limit
3 - It is fine - however it runs hot after a while
4 - I never zoomed in other phones, but it seems normal ?
5 - No noticeable difference in quality between 30 & 60 fps in 4k, beside the lack of calibration - so it is not like in the iPhone
6 - I had S8, and it seems a tad faster ? But I might still be provisioning as of now, so let's wait a couple of days for that

- any improvements on the screen/display quality over the S8 - or was that display mate just a paid-hype PR piece
-let us know about battery
-what changes to S8 did you noticed (besides the ones they've added in like camera. emoji )
thx

The screen is awesome. Never seen anything like this before.
In a few days yes.
I have the midnight black version - the aluminium is painted in matte black instead of the glossy one now
The fingerprint sensor is super quick, but registration process is weird, it asks you to swipe your finger instead of lift and touch again - just worth noting.
Speakers are super good and super loud.

you said: The screen is awesome. Never seen anything like this before.
you also said you had the S8
i know the S8 screen was/is really good (bar the issues they had with the red/blue taint)
in what ways is the s9 display better than the s8 - sorry for being so anal - but i was always interested :fingers-crossed:
the most important question does it have unlocked bootloader and aosp support ?

The screen seems to be more under your fingers. Also it gets incredibly bright, and calibration out of the box is awesome.
Also the area where it curves is no longer of a different tint.
The color seems a tad more punchy, but that might be just the wallpaper that I use.

I'm hoping that since the S9 has Treble support, it'll be getting some AOSP love. If so, I'm definitely getting it.

All phones that come with Oreo are required to support Treble. Since the S9 comes with Oreo, it supports Treble.
OP could confirm by running the following command in an adb shell: getprop ro.treble.enabled

Can you test the taken videos 4K30 vs 4K60 on pc to get better idea, on mobile display everything looks amazing - or upload some short ones uncompressed during normal movement?
Do you have any phone to compare the digital zoom with? example 3x on both phones during recording?
You mean lack of stabilization?
Also, if you change settings in pro mode, and use it last, does the same mode/setting launch if you use the double click on power button? (will the camera launch in pro or auto mode?)
Thanks alot
1. What are the settings for the ordinary slow mo mode? Is it 1080p @ 240fps?
2. Can you change the aperture in pro mode WHILE recording video?

Yes I mean no stab in 4k60, and yes the same mode opens if you double tap the power button, but only sometimes, or on some specific mode (?)

What I meant was, if i open pro mode, and make some tweaks, and I close the camera.
Will the camera launch in pro mode when I double press the power button, or the auto mode is launched? If the auto mode is launched, does changing the mode in it, stick or when you double press power it's all on stock? Thanks!

I'm sorry dude, but I must be sure you understand me, this is very important to me.
I open pro mode, and set shutter speed to 3 seconds, or I adjust white balance and then I close it the camera app from memory.
Then i double click on power button, does the camera then opens in pro mode with the settings adjusted or its pro mode but on stock- with nothing changed?

Google Camera w/ Google Lens

Is there a camera APK floating around somewhere that has Google Lens embedded in it? Is there (possibly) a beta program that one could join?
@Eduardo1974: What phone do you have? If you have a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, or Pixel 2 XL you should already have it as part of Google Camera. If you have a LG G7 or new devices from Motorola, Sony, Nokia, OnePlus and Asus it will eventually be integrated into each company's camera app. If you have anything else or aren't willing to wait, install Google Photos, as there is no beta program and Photos includes Google Lens
I have a Pixel 2 XL. The Google Lens icon shows up in my Photos app as well as when I trigger the Google Assistant, but not when the camera itself is launched.
When I take a picture the Google Lens icon will show as an option when viewing the photo I took, but when I just flat-out launch the camera there is no Google Lens icon that I can see. Is that how it's supposed to be set up?
Yes.
Oh I too thought they were adding a lens option right in the camera. Maybe I was wrong.
It has to have something to analyze, thus you can't use use it "live". You have to take the picture first and then use it. Or in the case of Google Photos, you have to select a picture and then use Google Lens.
On my pixel 2 XL once in the Google assistant at the bottom right you can hit the Google lens button and it opens the camera to a live use.

Mi a2 lite and Snapchat

Hello,
I just received my Mi A2 lite, and all seems perfect, except one thing : snapchat. I was before under iOS so, I didn't have any problem with this.
The thing is that there are black stripes on the sides of the photos and these are of poor quality (neither of these two problems on instagram; good photos and no stripes, because the app uses a correct ratio). Ok, this is the same on all the android phones, and we have to wait for updates (after all, instagram did it...).
But, this perfectly works on the pixel ones, and I saw that we had this :
- https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...ble-camera2-api-install-google-t3846264/page2
So, do you thik that Camera2 API or PixelExperience P could solve the problem ?
And otherwise, would you have some tips to treat the black stripes ?
I am using PixelExperience and my snapchat is working fine, so it may be the os
So, HoangP05 sent me a picture while having PixelExperience and the stripes problem is still there (but the picture was of good quality). I think that the only solution is to wait that Snapchat updates the app for the phones which have our screen ratio.
hello,
does your snapchat app crashes ?

Definitive Best Google Cam settings here

Hello,
I just got my Mi 9t Pro (K20 Pro) and i spent quite some time installing all the different GCAM modded apps and their settings. I think i found the sweetest spot so I thought to share it.
GCAM : HyperCam R5
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-jairo_rossi/
the settings file is also on the website, or different settings can be found on the "Profiles Cam" app, available on the Play Store
This makes really good pictures. I have very low noise levels and high details. This GCAM app is the best as it allows filming at 60 fps even if slow-mo and 48 mpx shots will still require the main app. But the 48 mpx shot aren't good at all. Hopefully the camera will be enhanced with MIUI 11....
But for MIUI 11 (Android 10) it is now a nightmare to get a working gcam. I am open to any suggestions
Are the settings to apply or? How do i apply if yes
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
- First, go into the gcam settings, and find the "save settings" parameter. Save the current settings with any name. this will create a folder in the phone memory
- Place the downloaded setting file in Internal Memory/GCAM/Configs where you will also see the setting you just created.
- Open Gcam again, double tap next to the shutter button, and you will be prompted with a popup to select my setting file.
Does that make sense ?

Not sure what anos means, but hdr + enhanced does not bring a lot compared to standard hdr+ if the amount of frames is not set to high .
You can also change the number of frames for hdr plus enhanced. That is up to everyone. I put it to 20 frames because if not it is better to use standard hdr.
Both auto.

2. Stock https://i.ibb.co/fq2Xxfw/IMG-20191021-211054.jpg
Details are better but the noise is a problem in certain areas.
With small tweaks here and there we can perhaps get rid of it.

Indeed it is always a compromise between noise and flattening. I hate the flattening of the stock camera. But for me the noise levels are more than acceptable with gcam and Pixel 2 xl basic setup

In the setting of gcam you can find the HDR + parameters. I set it to 20 because if not it makes no difference with the "standard" HDR. You can lower the value but I think you better use the standard HDR and keep this one to 20 for when you have time.

The stock camera flattens terribly the pictures and a lot of details are lost. The color temperature isn't great. Also the green colours are oversaturated.
Here is a picture taken in a Not-so-bright place. The level of noise is more than acceptable in my opinion. Just make sure you emulate pixel 2Xl in the settings. This should be part of the config file but we never know.
Hello. the application is really not bad. I find it unfortunate that we can not use the 48 MP. Small tip, for the use of night mode, please use a small infrared lamp "$ 10" you can believe me that the result is simply surprising.

A few questions before buying

I'm in thoughts of buying Mi 10T/Mi 10T Pro but have a few questions.
1) Does NFC work Lineage, Evolution or similar custom roms?
2) Does Gcam work well(4K 60fps) Lineage, Evolution or similar custom roms? And does the Gcam add stabilization on 4K 60fps recording?
3) Does the fingerprint sensor work well with Lineage, Evolution or similar custom roms?
4) Are there any port of the Miui stock camera app for Cutom roms?
5) Are there any screen protection Glass that work with the fingerprint sensor?
6) Are there any other camera app than the stock Miui that is able to record in 8K 30fps?
7) Are there any know functions in the phone that doesn't work well with custom roms?
1. Yes
2. Yes/not sure for the second part, 4k 60fps if forced option, eis and ois(only on 10t pro) exist in options
3. Yes
4. There are some anx versions that some people reported to work, but it's awful, half of the stuff doesn't work, force closes, errors etc...
5. Fingerprint sensor is on power button, so every screen protector works.
6. None that I know of
7. Nfc sometimes doesn't work, but the fix is in making. Wifi sometimes prevents phone from entering deep sleep, also fix soon
