Android P abysmal Data Connectivity - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hi,
Does anyone else noticed how bad the data connection is on Andoid P? By bad I mean throughput. It struggles to get over 10Mbps in areas with perfect reception(I have an unlimited data plan EE UK) and Carrier Aggregation does not work at all. I'm aware is beta software but this is very poor performance compared to Oreo 8.1. Or is it just my unit? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm hitting 50Mbps; no issues!

On cell or wifi think he's asking about cell

I'm on EE UK and have experienced the same slow speeds. Not sure if the Oreo and P have the same baseband versions.

Yes, I'm referring to LTE, WiFi seems okay. Installed few cellular network tools, signal strength is similar to Oreo but definitely no Carrier Aggregation on Android P(modem limitation maybe?). That's a shame as data download speed will take a massive hit. Can anyone confirm if Carrier Aggregation works on their phone?

I have the same issue here in India as well, I'm on Airtel. The data speeds have been very inconsistent and poor on LTE and 3G.

It seems to be good here (Ontario, Canada).

Just tried on my phone with full signal, got 68Mbps

I'll try to do a factory reset and retry. A colleague at work has the same issue, full signal, Vodafone UK, LTE max speed 9Mbps, no carrier aggregation.
If I swap to my HTC U11 same network, same place, I get 65-85Mbps download and Net Monitor shows LTE_CA enabled.

Also on EE and Android P DP2. I've not noticed any issues as of yet. Just did a couple of speed tests one at full reception and one just under full, both seemed ok. I have noticed I get less speeds with EE in certain areas compared to others, but never struggled to get past 10Mbps.
Have you checked if the problems persist on another device in your same area?

I'm on Verizon USA and have noticed data speeds have been terrible, as well as getting a lot more dropped calls and it doesn't seem to maintain data connection as well as it did on Oreo.

Definitely the modem doesn't support Carrier Aggregation. I've tried same place different phones, same sim and Pixel with Android P is more than half slower than other phones, iPhone 8Plus and Galaxy S9+. Shame, hopefully this will be fixed in the next release.

Unlimited data plan on EE in the UK? Where do you get this?

My bad, is not unlimited, is 40GB/month, enough I would say.

[Q] Performance of LTE version in US

Hi. I purchased the Pro.8.4 for $350 at Best Buy. Apparently they only sell the WiFi version. I noticed that you can get the LTE version on Expansys for about $450. Anybody in the US buy the LTE version? What carrier you using and how is it working out. Is it worth the extra $100 to you? Thanks!

I bought the T325 and I am using it on AT&T. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the correct LTE bands for the U.S., so the best it can get is H+ which is 3g. Having said that, I don't have LTE where I live but I get 14Mbps on H+ so I'm not missing the LTE at home. I travel a lot and most of the places I go to have 3g speeds between 3-6Mbps so it does ok (a lot better than hotel wifi).
The thing to consider is that on AT&T, and I'm assuming t-Mobile as well, the T325 shows up as a cell phone so it will require a full cell phone sim. A data-only sim won't activate. I also had to tweak the APN to get a solid connection.
All said, I'm very happy with the T325 and I use it as my daily phone/tablet.

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Just wondering how you use it as a phone. Due you use it via bluetooth device?
I can confirm what flymacs wrote. It doesn't support LTE in US. I'm using AT&T as well and I've confirmed there is LTE coverage where I'm at from other AT&T users but I only connect to H+ (3G).
Not a real problem for me as I'm a light data user and I knew going in that LTE was a long shot.

The SM-T325 is the Cellular/International/Non-U.S. LTE version. The SM-T320 is the wifi only version. The T325 has a earpiece just like all cell phones. You can make/answer calls simply by holding it up to your ear like any other cell phone. Granted, it may look silly holding this size of a device next to your head. I use both a wired earbud and a bluetooth headset.
Phone quality and reception is very good. In fact the audio quality of the T325 is better than most of the devices I've used. The only minor issue I have is my work apps don't scale very well to the high ppi of the screen. But that is not the phone's fault.

Flashing from 4g+ to lte

Is it just a bug that when the phone accesses data it constantly flaahes real quick from 4g+ to lte?

Maybe it is some kind of a bug, as I'm seeing that also and I'm on T-Mobile. I do have the option for VoLTE enabled, next time I see it doing this I'll try disabling that.

I'm having the issue here. Determined it only flashes to 4G+ when there is active data downloading. Otherwise it sits at LTE. US/AT&T here. Was considering going to T-Mobile to put a SIM in the 2nd tray and see if it does it there too, because I was thinking it was just an APN setting.
An easy way to tell is open YouTube and playback a video off of cellular..indicator will stick on 4G+. Alternatively, run a Speed Test, when downloading it will flash back and forth rapidly, however when doing the upload test it will stay on LTE.
I always thought 4G+ was the same as HSDPA+/HSUPA+ which is nowhere near as fast as LTE. Does anyone having the issue have a recent LTE phone they can swap back into and copmare speed tests?
Edit - typos.

4G is LTE. Not sure what 4G+ is. On LTE when it works I can get around 100 down.
Hmm, no 4G and LTE are different, in the US at least. 4G was marketed before LTE came about, you can see proof of this on an iPhone 4S, which did not have LTE radios but did label HSDPA+ connections as 4G. So you can thank Apple for the marketing confusion. However, upon researching this issue it seems 4G+ (with the plus, not just 4G) is the technical equivalent to LTE. It is just used in different countries, such as Singapore.
Regardless, the issue seems to have gone away after coming to work and being in different AT&T towers. I'm guessing it was just a graphical bug.
In Europe 4g and Lte is the same but the 4g+ is the new faster net

Pretty certain the one plus when using carrier aggregation shows the 4G+ and 4g when on HSDPA. Confusing for certain but when I've noticed it that's been the case (as much as I can tell without field test)

Basically combining two frequencies that use LTE for better bandwidth on the download speed as its currently mostly implemented.

Well, in Nottingham(uk) my phone works in the opposite way(EE network) it shows LTE constantly, but as soon as I start to download anything, or browsing (and possibly using more data) it switches to 4G+.I haven't realized untill I got my OP3... But love it, extremely fast ?

Yes that's exactly what mine is doing, however today it does it sometimes and other times it remains showing LTE when downloading data. I noticed when it remains as LTE, the up/down indicators in the pull-down settings don't show up, which leads me to believe even more that the LTE/4G+ toggling is just a visual bug, as they are technically the same network connection.
I took contact with the Oneplus support about this problem. They told me to send them a log with a hidden menu ( call the *#800#). He sent the log to the development team, I will tell you if I have news

I assume that would explain these less than stellar speeds? I was wondering why the upload was faster than the download...

Possible to change US unlocked bands to ATT Specific

My unlocked US version is horrid as far as reception. Is there anyway to change just the CID/MID to ATT specific? Gotta say, so far I am disappointed with this phone. It gets horrible reception and the Wi FI is even worse.
There is no AT&T specific as they're not releasing this device.
Are you on the latest fw 1.80.617.1?

It must be me and this user who have similar AT&T experiences! Others have apparently not had the same experience as I've posted before. I have found my reception to be pretty bad vs my N6 which was marginal compared to a household of iPhone users.
I've tried various radios and I'm currently on the latest firmware ..... Hopefully someone will find the sweet spot

Compared to any other phone this phone has the best reception, mine is US Unlocked on AT&T in Texas, but with any phone of mine I never had dropped calls before or internet issues, but in my apartment the bars are mostly maxed out all the time, while on my M8 it worked fine but the bars would be low.

I know it appears nobody else is having this but today was a perfect example ....
We drove on a stretch of road that I have some service on intermittently during the five mile or so stretch when using my N6 . On my HTC 10 I have NO service for the entire stretch.
The reason I responded here is that my wife was with me this AM and had good service maintaining a phone call for the entire time on her iPhone 6 .... and I never let her forget how much I hate iphones , but not today
My 10 consistently reminds that it has the worst reception on AT&T, for me, compared to many other phones.

LTE always reverting to 3G/H/H+ on ALL custom and all stock roms

I had LTE for around a month, then out of nowhere, no updates, nothing it disappeared, it's been gone for almost 2 weeks now.
My carrier (O2-UK) says there is no issue, I have literally no idea, I am almost certain it's just Oneplus phones.. but anyone have any info?
As I said, I've tried custom ROM, I've tried all the stock roms clean flashed.

No one else has this issue?! Saw a few on google but no fixes...
I can say that my phone often sticks to edge when I disable the wifi, it won't switch to 3g/4g unless I enable/disable it. I believe this was not the case with oos 3.2.1, with which my phone came with (only have it for a week now). This also happens with CM13. I think there was a update to the radio in the last oos update, so this might be the reason.
I am currently on OxygenOs 3.2.4 and my Lte seems to work properly. I tested it on a 4g area for about an hour or more and lte sticks with no drop to 3g. I will test it more and report back.

But I had very good LTE where I lived too, inside, outside, then a week or two ago it vanished.

please fix this 1+ we all having hard time with this issue
my 1+3 never stays on 3g or LTE always go back to 2g
Silly suggestion, but are you on the correct APN? My oneplus initially connected on the incorrect APN for my carrier and I wasn't getting LTE, but 3G/H. Once I corrected it, my LTE was constant in the places it should have been.
Works fine for me you probably just getting a stronger h+ signal and it's jumping between mast's

That would make no sense. I had LTE for a solid month sat right at this desk, now, none.
Where I am in the UK we have loads of cell towers around me and it's always jumping about. There is an app that lets you pick what cell tower you want to use, I have forgotten it's name but might be worth a look. Or could be they doing work in your area. Sorry can not think what else it could be
The oneplus 3 and oneplus 2 just don't like LTE, they will find any reason to go to H+/3
Same issue
I am on Three UK, have came from a Galaxy S7 Edge, and that got constant LTE in most areas, now my phone seems to prefer H+ a LOT more than LTE, reverting to it whenever it can, not great, OnePlus really needs to address this issue, wouldn't mind so much if LTE in my area wasn't 75Mbps, compared to 10Mbps on H+

Same issue, same carrier, same frustration
Put me down for the same issue. With faster battery drain on 3.2.4, as well as random complete "no service" signal loss, for maybe 5 seconds. It's annoying as sin, and very disappointing. OnePlus at least is aware of the issue:

Have found no fix, have reverted to S7 edge, has MUCH better LTE and more reliable signal overall.

LTE+ (CA) slower than LTE

Howdy.
For quite some time i've found my phone to download quite slow on LTE+ Mobile Network.
LTE+ or LTE Advanced is nothing different than LTE with Carrier Aggregation. This means instead of using a single LTE Stream it will use 2 LTE streams at the same time.
Now my observation with LTE+ is that i get about 5mbps in Speedtest app, while using only one LTE Stream i get about 20-40mbps. Which is like.... utterly nonesene.
So, where does this come from?
A: Because i have a 709 Taiwan device with Taiwan Modem it's not working here in Europe
B: My Antenna is broken.
I've had the exact same behaviour on Stock Rom, LOS and AOSP based ROMs. So i don't think it's a software issue. (and yeah, i did RUU in between)
I've tested this over 6 months in 5 different cities with different ROM/Basebands from 1.92.709.1 onwards to 2.41.709.7 Similar results every time.
I've Changed Sim card from SALT to Swisscom and had LTE+ signal, same issue. 5-10mbps maximum.
Now then. Anyone here has tests of LTE and LTE+ and has a similar issue? Or is it working flawless for you guys?
How can you tell you are on CA?
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Because words are nice but screenshots are better... Here some screens from the root app Network Guru WHILE using speedtest in the background!
Normal:
And with LTE+ aka 2xCA
Just in case you're curious, here are some Screens from the Swisscom Network, as you can see they sue EARFCN 6300 and 1301 instead of 6400 and 1601 as Salt does.

Hi small issue actually. You need to set 4g apn setting to your mobile.you may refer to your telco or google setting 4g for your courier. Like me using celcom malaysia also do manual setting 4g.auto apn setting only 3g.
I have also had this issue on my HTC 10. When I was seeing LTE +, I expected even faster speeds, however the opposite happened. Fortunately many places don't have LTE + so this is not affecting most of the times.
