Connectivity Problems - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

Just got my Pixel 3a XL straight from Google, but out of the box my wifi and signal disconnect every few minutes or so when I'm actually using them. If idle then I have no problems.
I have tried flashing different factory images for the device but the issue persists.
Is anyone else having this issue or similar?

No problems whatsoever with wifi or 4g on mine. If flashing firmware images does not help then this to me sounds like a hardware problem. Your next step is going to be contacting Google support

No problems here at all. I have a good cellular signal better than my old nexus 6 and wifi is great. Better hit google support.

So I did request for a replacement from google, but I found that the wifi will disconnect a lot if it's on the 5 Ghz band. As for the cellular signal, that still hasn't been fixed.

Keep us posted on the situation. At least for me the 3aXL has excellent cellular reception. Went to a restaurant where I never had a signal with several phones and I had a signal. The wife was upset because her phone did not have a signal. We both have t-mobile.

No issues at all so far, but only two days with the phone.

LTE always reverting to 3G/H/H+ on ALL custom and all stock roms

I had LTE for around a month, then out of nowhere, no updates, nothing it disappeared, it's been gone for almost 2 weeks now.
My carrier (O2-UK) says there is no issue, I have literally no idea, I am almost certain it's just Oneplus phones.. but anyone have any info?
As I said, I've tried custom ROM, I've tried all the stock roms clean flashed.

The latest update oos3.4.2 has this issue. However, oos3.2.2 didn't have this issue as my LTE was connecting fine in India.

I've tried all roms, all OOS versions. Same issue.
No one else has this issue?! Saw a few on google but no fixes...
I can say that my phone often sticks to edge when I disable the wifi, it won't switch to 3g/4g unless I enable/disable it. I believe this was not the case with oos 3.2.1, with which my phone came with (only have it for a week now). This also happens with CM13. I think there was a update to the radio in the last oos update, so this might be the reason.
I am currently on OxygenOs 3.2.4 and my Lte seems to work properly. I tested it on a 4g area for about an hour or more and lte sticks with no drop to 3g. I will test it more and report back.

I used to have solid good 4G here, now I don't no matter what I do. It isn't a network issue either
Did you double check your data SIM card is set to LTE? I had that setting change to 3g through a weird mix of circumstances. Was miffed I wasn't getting 4g and it turned out my SIM was set to 3g max.

I get LTE if I go somewhere else, eg just outside off where I live.
But I had very good LTE where I lived too, inside, outside, then a week or two ago it vanished.
same here always reverting from 3g to 2g biggest issue with this phone
please fix this 1+ we all having hard time with this issue
my 1+3 never stays on 3g or LTE always go back to 2g
Silly suggestion, but are you on the correct APN? My oneplus initially connected on the incorrect APN for my carrier and I wasn't getting LTE, but 3G/H. Once I corrected it, my LTE was constant in the places it should have been.
Works fine for me you probably just getting a stronger h+ signal and it's jumping between mast's

That would make no sense. I had LTE for a solid month sat right at this desk, now, none.
Where I am in the UK we have loads of cell towers around me and it's always jumping about. There is an app that lets you pick what cell tower you want to use, I have forgotten it's name but might be worth a look. Or could be they doing work in your area. Sorry can not think what else it could be
The oneplus 3 and oneplus 2 just don't like LTE, they will find any reason to go to H+/3
Same issue
I am on Three UK, have came from a Galaxy S7 Edge, and that got constant LTE in most areas, now my phone seems to prefer H+ a LOT more than LTE, reverting to it whenever it can, not great, OnePlus really needs to address this issue, wouldn't mind so much if LTE in my area wasn't 75Mbps, compared to 10Mbps on H+

Same issue, same carrier, same frustration
Put me down for the same issue. With faster battery drain on 3.2.4, as well as random complete "no service" signal loss, for maybe 5 seconds. It's annoying as sin, and very disappointing. OnePlus at least is aware of the issue:

Fix
Have found no fix, have reverted to S7 edge, has MUCH better LTE and more reliable signal overall.

random loss of signal

I have a 128gb pixel XL with Verizon, which I purchased through verizon as well. Randomly at times just as I'm going to place a call it will start ringing and then disconnect and it will show loss of signal. This has also happened while I was on a call. I'm on the latest firmware as well. Has any body else ran into this issue?
I ran into this last night. I'm a sprint customer with pixel xl ordered from Google. I am on V software. It could just be the fact it's only connected to one 4g band which has low strength in the area we were at during the drop times. Mine hasn't done it since last night might have been in a dead zone
Yes, this has happened many, many times to me. I have a replacement coming that hopefully will take care of it.

For me its switching from band 13 to band 4.
I don't have this issue at all on TMO but in my area (Chicago) TMO is exclusively band 4. So this would lend some support to the possibility that this is happening when switching bands as I don't ever switch bands and don't have the issue (3 different Pixel devices that I've used since launch and none have exhibited this behavior).
I never had this issue on my Pixel XL, but then when I switched to the Pixel it would drop every single call I made and take 2-3 minutes to get a signal again. This was using the Verizon SIM card it came with. I then got a different SIM card and while it hasn't dropped a call since, I still notice that randomly throughout the day it loses signal where I have never lost signal before. I then wait 2-3 minutes and all of a sudden, it's back to strong LTE signal.
I'm on the fence about RMA'ing it. Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this is a software or hardware issue? I don't want to be stuck with this problem.
-Collin-
Any resolution to this yet? I've tried swapping the sim to no avail. Running custom kernel and pure Nexus.
I'm on Project FI and sometimes the phone would switch to T-Mob for no apparent reason, which has extremely bad signal. While USC has over 100 times better signal, the phone for no apparent reason would switch to crap. That usually results in no calls being made at all. One trusty remedy is type in a dialer code to switch to next provider.

I also have the 128GB XL (quite black) from VZW. I had absolutely no issues with it until about 2 weeks ago. That's when I started experiencing this same issue. The signal bar goes clear and i lose service for a few moments. In watching the SIM status, I can see where the status will go from "In service" to "Radio off" to "Out of service" back to "In service." I also took screenshots of it doing this. The weird thing for me is that it only happens when I'm at work (I usually have full bars for reception). VZW seems quite baffled at this issue. They have replaced my phone twice. This 3rd phone is doing the exact same thing the other 2 were. I did a chat session with Google Support, and the 1st level tech I chatted with seemed unaware of the issue. My wife has the same phone (silver), and she hasn't experienced this issue yet at all. We were thinking about bringing her phone to my office to see if hers will display the same symptoms mine does here. Nobody else in my area has any reception issues. It's not a huge inconvenience while I'm at work since I have a desk phone. However, it is rather annoying when I cannot send a text or make/receive a call because my cellular radio is resetting itself constantly.
I couldn't post my screenshots since I have < 10 posts...

ATT Band 4 lte no connectivity

Hello everyone. I have had my pixel 2 xl for about 3 weeks now. I love this phone except for one bug. At random times my phone would loose lte connectivity for no reason (while still showing full bars and lte). Digging deeper i have found that when my phone connects to aws band 4 i loose all internet connectivity. I used network signal guru to dissable band 4 and band 66 this "fixes" my issue. Obviously i would like that extra capacity band since it is in use in my area(Pittsburgh pa). Does anyone else have this issue? Is it tower related? Phone related? This also happend on stock and custom roms flashing the stock image both times. Thanks for any help!

Is this isolated to one area? Possibly connecting to the same tower? It sounds more like a network issue.

It does not seem isolated. It has happened in multiple places which is why i disabled the band entirely. If it was one tower wouldn't the whole tower be down and not just a certain band?

Question Returning due to connectivity issues. Past return window too.

I already had to have a defective screen replaced but now I more times than not have no signal. My OnePlus 7t has full signal strength. I'm missing calls and it's unacceptable. I'm never purchasing another Google phone again. I should have learned my lesson with the Nexus 6p. They will be emailing me with return instructions within the next day. I demanded a remedy or a full refund and they obviously have zero remedies as it's apparent the cheap Samsung modem they used is likely the cause. I tried all the potential from fixes but nothing works and I shouldn't have to disable 2g or downgrade to lte. So disappointed with Google. Think I'll stick with my 7T until something better comes out. Maybe I'll go with the M11 Ultra.

Sorry for your bad experience. My P6P has about 15% better reception and 20% better DL speeds than my Note 20 Ultra so I can't imagine it would be the modem since they are probably the same.

Glad you aren't experiencing this issue but it seems to be a mass issue and Google has been completely silent. I don't trust them after what I went through with the Nexus 6p which resulted in a class action suit settlement. I sense this phone will follow the same path too.

@Starzboy77 - yikes! i had a similar problem with an AT&T P6P, when using an eSim and nano Sim (tried 4 eSims). the phone wouldn't hold a signal so i returned it to the store. the one thing i didn't try was forcing the phone to use a 4G/LTE signal (supposedly fixes some connection issues). thanks for taking time to respond to my questions.
Yea, on VZ in the Cleveland area I am dropping signal also. Never dropped with my 3XL or my Note 20.
Driving across the turnpike going to Michigan it dropped multiple times. The turnpike is rocl solid coverage. They added towers years ago to be sure it was solid end to end.
This phone is going to be a nightmare to use when the snow is gone and I start traveling on my motorcycle. I suspect I will replace it before then unless there is a software fix. This modem is junk.

No. The 6p had a bad mic issue and a bad battery issue that would lead to shutdowns while still reading at 40% power. It also had bootloop issues that were related to the board I believe. It was plagued with problems which the Pixel 6 Pro seems to be matching. Connectivity, overheating, Bluetooth, battery to name a few and my first one came with a screen defect that required a screen replacement.

I can only guess that those problems are imaginary or due to some weird garbage you installed. I took mine off the charger on Friday morning. Currently at 25%. Battery life and obviously heat are non-issues. Bluetooth works perfectly.

My issue with the 6p was the bad battery. Mic was fine.
Connectivity was the worst for me with TMobile, download speed of less than 1mbps, calls and texts were bad, after a decade of loyalty i ditched them, went to at&t and all good, only problem i have with this phone is the screen not responding to touch for a few seconds a few times a day
I sent mine back to be repaired mic didn't work at all. I sure hope they send me a new phone and not split it open
I have been hesitant to say there's connectivity issues on the P6P. However, my experience hasn't been great. Compared to my P4a5g, signals are similarly weird but I get more bars consistently on the P4a5g.
Disclaimer: I straddle weak 5g and LTE signals in almost dead center of SF.
Even turning off 5g to eliminate the terrible handoff to LTE, I bounce between LTE bands on each end of our flat.
I have to be right in the middle of a strong signal area to get full bars with the P6P; consistent 5g is elusive.
Maybe it is time to look at other carriers? I have been with TMo since 1999. Seriously.
Would love to hear from anyone in SF on their carrier experiences. Have always avoided Verizon and AT&T. What about Google Fi?
My sim card is ~4-5 years old. I should get a new one. Is eSim better for signal?

I mean I think we're pretty lucky in North America because we get to choose from 3 providers instead of one (the more the better for sure). I'm not in SF but I know that sometimes, changing cell providers can make a world of difference. even in cities. different towers from different companies use different bands. it can make such a difference. a good start is a new SIM card for sure. I suggest people get a new one every 5 years.
some providers might also give you a 2 day trial, maybe look at that option? (they do in CA).
@Alekos thank you for the feedback.
Since the P6P supports eSim, testing other providers should be easy, right? I am guessing that using eSim doesn't make a difference in network connectivity performance. If you understand otherwise, please let me know.
And yes. I will definitely get a new sim. Can't hurt; might help.
Thanks again.

The same thing was happening to me about 2 months ago on both of my Poco F3's right before I got the 6 Pro. It ended up being something with T-Mobile as the problem stopped about a week and a half later.

Question Horrible signal connectivity?

Hi all, I just recently bought this pixel 6 pro a few weeks ago and I've been having horrible connection issues. The main one that plagues me is when all of a sudden, for no reason, I lose mobile data connection. I have some bars of signal with the LTE or 5G icon but with an exclamation point in it. Or sometimes it just loses signal randomly like in the screenshot below. Both screenshots were taken minutes apart.
I've noticed this was an issue for most people and have posted about this here, but I haven't seen anyone complain about it recently. Is there a fix for this problem?
Unfortunately for a great manu people, myself included this phone has garbage reception. There is no known fix.
Me to
My troubles began after I updated the phone to A13 enrolling to Beta and then leaving it.
The problem was that the phone will be stuck to H+ all day although weI have good coverage of 4G and 5G in town. Sometimes the connection would just drop and I had to engage flight mode to reset it.
Yesterday I decided that I had enough and did the reset of network settings. Today I have noticed that the problem was solved. Now I have 4g and 5g as in the past. But the problem now is that the Internet just would not work from time to time although it shows full bars. Had to use aeroplane mode again today about 3 times.
It's very annoying to say the least. Had thoughts of changing the phone. Not even speaking about heating issues when on mobile. Horrible.

i agree, terrible signal problems, all time. I`ll try to reset all network settings
for me it`s a disrespect from google to treat all final user like beta tester
Same here. Super slow connection even in areas with towers close by.
Been having this issue ever since I updated to Android 13.
Having only had the phone for 2 weeks, I took it to my provider who said all they can do is return it to Google. With both my eSIM and my physical sim dropping out together, apparently its an RIL problem. They did say that if it's just an issue with one SIM card, replacing it will fix it.
I think this can be solved downgrading to android 12.1 dev you can downgrade to android 12.1 without downgrade bootloader it's safe and don't brick your device because it's a android 12 that runs over android 13 bootloader. Keep in mind that this will erase your data permanently! Do a backup before do it
This has been happening since the phone came out. This is due to the old modem they are using from Samsung. There is no fix.
My coworker has this happen with his 6 Pro, while my 6 is perfect ironically. He has verizon, I got tmobile. He has to leave the store to make a call, but I don't. This has been for the last 6 months though

Had the phone sent away to Google for repairs as the issue ended up happening when I was showing my provider. Got it back and Google said there were "no issues" with it and they couldn't replicate it with either SIM type. Either they put out a hotfix or it magically went away, but I'll see how it goes after using it again.

If you've got another phone (5G compatible), you can try to see if the problem is the phone, or the actual network coverage.
Also, something else you could do is switch to 4G and see if the problem persists.
The thing with 5G is that the coverage is really spotty. That's in general. I don't live in the US, so I don't know what the actual coverage is over there. But that's a general thing with 5G. It cannot penetrate as well as 4G, and even worse than 3G or 2G. When you increase frequency, you lose distance (coverage). So basically 5G needs a lot more repeaters to get proper coverage.
But you could try another phone in the exact same area. Oor..try to switch to 4G and see if the issue still occurs. You could also call the carrier and ask if they have any idea why is this happening.

Same with me. I keep 5G turned off for a couple reasons.
1, battery life.
2. 4G is fast enough for me.
3. Better signal.
