Redmi Note 8 Pro Screen Calibration (warm temperature) - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi,
I received my RN8 Pro just yesterday (22nd Oct) (India).
The first thing I noticed is the screen quality.
I find the screen is calibrated a tad bit warmer than usual. Even if you go to the screen settings and tweak it to 'cool', it still remains yellowish.
I came from OnePlus5, which had an AMOLED screen (not fHD/SuperAmoled). There the screen was obviously more crisp, I don't really expect that here. However, the calibration looks bit different if I hold these 2 phones side by side.
What I want to know is, is this just my RN8 Pro, or others also feel the same?
Also, in MIUI where is the 'night light' setting, where I can either manually or automatically turn the screen hue warmer? It's one of the main features in OxygenOS. Actually, the current RN8P calibration looks like 'night light' set.
Thanks.

I'm facing the same issue. The screen feelings very yellowish, especially at night. I thought it was my device fault. ?

I think this is eye protection. In the official presentation they wrote "Low blue light TÜV Rheinland-certified screen".

If it was related to screen then it would have been yellowish always.
This is a software bug. Even though reading mode is disabled, I get yellowish screen from 10pm to 6am.
Not related to screen, that's talking about how the screen works.

I've not noticed the colour change depending on the hour, but the Redmi Note 8 Pro is definitely more yellow screen than the Redmi Note 5 Pro I upgraded from.
On the left is the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and on the right my new Redmi Note 8 Pro.

During day time when I compare my Redmi Note 8 pro with Asus Zenfone Max pro m1, then both are equally white but after 10 pm it suddenly turns yellowish as if night light is activated.
This thing has nothing to do with hardware, screen is perfect always, it's just that the bug activates night light even though it's turned off, from 10 pm to 6 am.

Yes, I understand what you're saying about the timings.
So far, mine has been yellow since 8am when I powered my new phone on for the 1st time, and it's now 9pm and it's still yellow.

Solved
SOLVED! It was probably problem bewteen MIUI and Google (Android?) default settings.
It's just two steps through debugging:
adb shell settings put secure night_display_activated 0
adb shell settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 0

Try this without ADB
Launch google playbook, read something, anything. Click the screen and then the "Aa" icon, for changing brightness/fonts. Then there, click Setting again, and you'll find "Night Light" turned on and scheduled.
Simply turn it off and Voila!
No rooting, no launcher or nothing required.

I have this, find night light but when I press settings I dont have to turn off night light..see screenshots..
Changing fonts you change fonts in phone also ?

Hey, I had this issue on my device as well. The issue on my device was due to a disconnect between my previous device settings and miui in note 8 pro.
I had activated reading mode on my previous phone and during backup, this setting got transferred on note 8 pro as well. But it did not show reading mode as activated in the settings. If I activated it the screen got mode yellow.
There are two ways to solve this one is through the ADB commands(as referred by some people in the forum) that I did not attempt. The other is to factory reset your device and install backup after disabling reading mode on your previous device.
This was not a hardware problem for me and I don't think it is for others as well.

My god that was driving me crazy. Thank you!

Might be unrelated, but there is the TÜV Rheinland certification for "Low Blue Light screen" claims on Redmi Note 8 Pro. as stated in https://www.mi.com/global/redmi-note-8-pro

Thanks a different thing topic and not related to this.

Umair928 how do you do this:
adb shell settings put secure night_display_activated 0
adb shell settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 0
- can you explain please? I have same problem..

Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Accessibility > Color correction (And play around with one of the color correction mode). It will reset the screen and yellowish screen will disappear.

Lightflow

Seen reports of people saying Lightflow messes with Ambient Display. Can anyone confirm this?
This should be in Q&A section. Anyway, I have both Ambient Display and Light Flow on. Light Flow does not mess with AD, and works quite well with it. Light flow colors work. I have the Pro version of Light Flow.

Sorry, the question is about an app so I thought goes here? Anyway. How does your AB work? Does it pulse randomly (like Moto X) or only when lifted or notification?
I used light flow pro and it forced screen wakes for a few minutes without a notification being present then it calms down. I uninstalled it and ambient display stays off unless there is a notification

Got it. Without Lightflow, there are only 3-4 pulses. With, it never ends.

Ah, I noticed that too but hadn't put that down to Light Flow.
I have a GWR, so disabled Ambient Display anyway.
Has anyone got the Sleep function to work?
No matter what Light Flow settings I use - at night, the LED continues to light up my room, so I have to leave the phone face-down at the moment...
I've been emailing the developer about it - but he's waiting for his 5X to turn up (as he's also ordered a 6P, he has to wait for that to turn up in the same delivery...)
I have enabled notification light through Settings and am able to generate a white light flash (repeating) when gmail receives. Has anyone noted fingerprint security have any negative impacts on notifications like this (more curiosity than anything)?
Admittedly its been some time since I have had to use lightflow pro; good app, just been awhile so I may be rusty on settings I am betting.

Lightflow is one of my standard apps. Unfortunately, it was draining my battery on the 5x regardless of the settings I had set. Looking forward to an update after the dev can optimize for MM/5X/6P.

Anyone else having an issue with lightflow and mms alerts needing to be cleared manually in the app?
To anyone who has Lightflow pro running well: would you mind posting your settings?
I've tried every combination I can think of: root mode on/off, run every command as root on/off, etc. The best the app can manage is a brief pulse on, then off, then a quick on/off before the LED stays off. Have tried direct mode, too. Tried the Legacy version, but it doesn't cover a lot of apps.
I can't seem to get any consistent results otherwise.
To be honest, I gave up and now use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3244601

Just as a note: I looked at their website, and tried installing the Legacy version without uninstalling the paid version. All apps show. Legacy version works fine.

Yes! I just got the 5x and am settling down with stock Android for a while. Rooted and Xposed. It will be maybe 2-3 days before I start installing custom ROMs! Thanks for the headsup on this particular ROM!

I have only had it for one night but it seemed to work fine for me. I changed the sleep method to "time" (it defaults to NFC or something) and set the "start time" to 10:30pm and the "end time" to 6:00AM. I also have ambient display disabled. I am not sure what GWR is though. Also make sure in each app notification setting you do not have "exclude from sleep mode" checked.
I'm using paid version of LF. For now I'm not rooted.
I noticed behaviour you've already talked about.
1. If I'm using ambient screen I always have notifiction icon "Number of notifications". Can I hide that?
I know I can hide it if I disable app notification, but in that case Light flow don't work anymore ...
2. Is there any solution with messing ambient screen and LW led. After recieved notification ambient lights on few times and completely mess up LF ...
Is Legacy version solving those problems?
Thank you.
edit: I solved problem with legacy.
I have en issue with lighflow legacy that when I set my gmail notification to switch screen on, it won't play the notification sound correctly, the screen will light and notification sound is not completed when email is received, it is like once the screen switch on, the notification sound won't complete till the end. Anyone noticed that? disabling switch screen on, will make the notification sound fine.
I have this problem with a N5x and LightFlow.
It doesnt matter if I do use Lightflow normal or legacy, because on legacy I kept seeing a Lightflow notification and the screen turns on with ambient display continuously due to this :S

Screen is not white.

I have my note 10 next to my note 8 and the 10 screen is not very white compared to my N8.
Anyone else notice or know how to fix it?

Could be the blue light filter or screen temperature and/or screen mode.

Go under Display then Screen Mode and change it from Natural to Vivid. That should brighten your whites a lot more.

It's the panel it seems Samsung have adopted a less whiter or warmer(?) one this time round, as all note 10 pluses I've held mine next to at stores etc are the same. My one plus 7 Pro is considerably whiter...

It's not a bad thing, I can assure you most Note 10/10+ have different screen calibration.
I have 3 S10 5G and the white looks different on all of them, lol. As a matter of fact even the native ONE UI dark mode looks different on all 3 units as well
This is clearly not a calibration issue. As I said this happens only in the evening time as if blue filter kicks in eventhough the filter is off. During day time the screen is white as usual.

Mine gets warmer when I go into Moon Reader Pro., its nice and cool white everywhere else on the phone And before anyone asks, yes BOTH blue light filters in the phone settings AND the moon reader settings are OFF.
I read somewhere that some people fixed it by going into Google books and apparently the blue light filter is turned on there and affects other apps. Dunno how much thats helpful since I didn't have G Books installed and when I did install it, the option was off but oh well
Checked that too. It is off there as well...

Hi there,
I was also wondering if there is another way (than the native tool) to adjust color temperature to set perfect white
Settings» Display»screen mode» vivd» move slider a little bit to the cooler side. Then go to advanced settings: turn down red, set green to about half and leave blue at full. Or adjust to your liking.
I've been making these adjustments since the note 8 but the note 10 seems more on the red side than normal.

Just did a factory reset, and this issue is gone. Probably something wierd happened while restoring from Note 9 backup.
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
I had this issue too, at 8:30pm, and it affected Google Photos and Samsung Gallery.
I had a OnePlus3 and had the bluelight filter set to 8:30pm.
My fix was to go into Google Books, open a book, click on Aa and turn off the filter. I never use Play Books, so it was very perplexing.
Therefore, I'm convinced this is a hidden Android system setting that is no longer accessible and carried over from the Android restore process. I'm happy to be rid of the problem though.

It is a well known fact that restoring from an older or former device often results in certain conflicts, as the settings and other componets are different between devices, this I've heard since my note 3 days

Green hue on bottom half of screen

See attached image.
I've noticed a greenish hue on the bottom half of the screen. It's most visible at low brightness and greyish/darkmode backgrounds. Not visible on amoled-black backgrounds. Present both in 120hz and 60hz, and both vivid and natural screen mode. Intrusive enough that I notice it several times a day.
Anyone else have this problem? Is it software or hardware-related?

YES!!! I've had this problem since getting my S20 Regular on Saturday. I got this replaced from the store yesterday, and the new phone has similar issue, although it's not that apparent. What I also see is that in Light mode, the white is warmer at the top and cooler at the bottom. These hues are just inconsistent across the system, be it the Settings menu or different apps. Here's everything I've done to eliminate the issue but failed:
Cycle through all combinations of resolution+refresh rate
Switch between Natural and Vivid colour settings, including changing colour temperature
Turned off Adaptive colour filter from Dark mode settings
Disabled 'Use sRGB picture colour mode from Developer options
Force Dark mode from Developer options
Simulated Monochromacy
Performed Factory reset
Got the OS reinstalled at the Samsung service center
Apps in which I was able to see this issue in:
Most system apps like Settings, Messages, Dialer, etc.
Discord (especially in the channel menu)
Falcon Pro (Twitter app)
Gmail
WhatsApp
Telegram
Reddit sidebar
Gboard (dark themes with Key borders on)
Apps where this isn't an issue
Twitter
Discord (AMOLED mode. This doesn't change the side menu which is still grey)
I'm attaching pictures comparing my first S20 with an M30s that also has a sAMOLED screen. The green hue is visible in the dialer app in the first pic, and how this green hue distorts greys is visible in the 2nd pic in the hamburger menu. The S20 becomes lighter towards the bottom whereas the M30s remains consistent for the most part.
My current S20 doesn't show this behavior in the Dialer app (it mostly seems pitch black) but in the other apps, I can marginally make out inconsistency, and in this case it becomes lighter from the right of the screen to the left. Even in Gboard with a true dark theme, some of the keys appear lighter than others because of this.
I'm gonna try to get this replaced from the store tomorrow, but good to know that someone else is facing the same issue.
Had the same problem. It was really annoying. Every gray background had a strange green hue. You can also some a hue on other colors, but it’s not turning into green in all situations.
Yes, also on Ultras and plus. I returned the ultra because of it and got a plus. It is a lot more bearable but I have to confess that I ordered another Plus to see if it is better.

I thought I could live with it but it is also getting extremely annoying on dark backgrounds that I had to turn off dark mode indefinitely. I think I'm gonna fight with Samsung to try to get a screen replacement at least (in a couple months when they get their shiet together) since it is not acceptable on a $1400 phone. I should have waited before selling my note 10+

Having the same problem on the top half of the screen
Galaxy s20, exynos
So I just had a new software update (ATCH), and I'm happy to say this issue now seems much less pronounced! Still a slight discoloration under specific conditions, but definitely a significant reduction.
I can not confirm, that ATCH is making it any better on any of the devices I tried (Ultra, 2*plus). It made no difference at all, IMO.

Same here, no difference after the update. Clearly a hardware issue unfortunately, otherwise all phones would have the green tint in the same spot
I might a spoken too soon, as once I enable "blue light filter" the problem returns full strength. Though the update has made certain backgrounds true amoled black (such as in settings and dialer), which reduces the problem in these apps.
Yes, I haven't noticed any change with this update, which I installed 5 days ago.
Hello, Yes i noted it from first date. It was clearly visible in Phone, Messages, Notification centre and settings app and every Google app in dark mode. After last update it's OK, but for example Samsung Health or Feedly side menu it's horrible. Unfortunately Samsung store is closed because od quarantine.

It's apparently an issue with the devices manufactured on February-earlier. Most of the S20 devices made in March do not have the issue or have a less exacerbated green tint.
On number 5 I can say that it is finally bearable. It was manufactured on the second of march. I did not check with the rest. I only opened them, handled them delicately and checked them. All were terrible.
is this the problem with s20 exynos or s20 sd865?
Personally, I can only talk about Exynos. I would, however, suppose that it is through all kinds.

Auto brightnes failure after Android 10 update

Hi,
mine Redmi Note 8 PRO worked well until the Android 10 OTA upgrade.
After it autobrightnes does not work well anymore.
At some point it simply drops to very low level and wont change regardles the light density. Either being dark or very sunny it will simply be at level of about 10%.
If i reboo the fone autobrightnes will start work again. At some point idk wich it simply stops.
Anyone with same isue and posible fix?
I encounter the same problem sir. Been searching for a while. Hoping that there is a fix.
That sounds annoying, but I have not experienced it (Global version).
I hope somebody with an "inside" connection to Xiaomi is collecting and reporting this and other bugs.
I know there is a "Mi Community" forum, but the last time I looked at it, it seemed mostly like advertising.
Ok, after reeboot sensor works fine again. I can confirm nearly 100% that it got messed up with playing a game. Also Roaming data does the same. It switches OFF. Then i reebot and switch it back on it stays until sensor brakes. Then reboot again. Damn.
Same here

Hi,
mine Redmi Note 8 PRO worked well until the Android 10 OTA upgrade.
After it autobrightnes does not work well anymore.
At some point it simply drops to very low level and wont change regardles the light density. Either being dark or very sunny it will simply be at level of about 10%.

hi..
try to calibrate all sensors in the CIT menu
go to Setting>About Phone>All spesification> and Tap a few times Kernel Version, you will see CIT menu then try to check all sensor ,make sure all sensor is PASS status .
for the calibration menu in the CIT menu there is a dot in the top right corner of the tap and select the addtitional tool then try to calibrate all sensors.

Hi,

However when i will get the light sensor problem ill go into menu and see if it stil works and report.
Thx
I too face same problem.
I too face similar problem, I'm using global version. I had updated to latest version. Now MIUI 11 with Android 10. Now i manually adjust screen brightness. Every time i restart the device its working, but once it goes to low brightness it won't auto adjust again.
I saw some post in reddit. It says it may be because of AI. Not sure, any MIUI insiders please take note, also fix it in next update.
My Global Version works fine.
In a dark area the brightness is low, pull down the status bar to check, Walk into a bright area and the screen gets brighter, check status bar, Then walk back into a dark are and the display goes dark, No Problems and it`s been a week since i last rebooted.

If you want to try..
Back up first data which is important..
Then wipe all data in recovery 3.0 menu
This metode will delete all apps you have installed and delete all data photo etc..
If its not fixed auto brightness sensor
You need to flash yor devices with mi flash tool but you must unlock bootloader first..
Sent from my Redmi Note 8 Pro using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The solution is to delete the update of Themes app.
I reverted back to 1.5.3.6-global version and the auto brightness problem gone!
After reverting a phone restart also needed.

Indeed, i have a feeling playing games is the triger. I unisntaled Theme app,... so far so good,.. but didnt have much time to play with the phone.... Will report later. Since yesterdays uninstal no problem yet
EDIT:
Removing THEM APP does not help.
Same here, the auto brightness is no longer working. It defaults to either a very dim or very bright setting. Rebooting resolves the issue temporarily but the it reverts back.
Uninstalling the Themes app updates does not seem to resolve the issue but I'll keep an eye on that.

I don't game on the phone and have seen no problems with the brightness, The screen goes bright and dark normally as the environmental light level changes.

I don't game on the phone either. It used to work fine until the latest update I think (MIUI version 11.03.0 (QGGEUXM)).
Although, it could've started with update to Android 10 (11.02.0) and I didn't notice!
What version are you on?

I am on the same as you 11.0.3.0 (QGGEUXM)
I also have the ultra battery save patch 20200509 installed, if that make any difference i don't know much about the ins and outs of the android system.

That's strange, same build but different behaviour. I'll have a look at the ultra battery save patch to see if that helps.
One more thing I'd like to check. There was a mention of uninstalling the Themes app updaes. I tried that, and at first it didn't seem to make a difference. However, since I rebooted the auto brightness seems to have been working for nearly a week but not sure if it will last!
Can you please confirm the version of the Themes app on your phone.

Question Poco F3 yellowish screen

The whites looks yellowish, like warmer tone. reading mode is off. I got phone this yesterday.
MIUI Global 12.5.6
My last phone was Redmi K30, and this is my first amoled sceen phone.
Was it like that out of the box?
If so it may be a firmware or hardware issue.
If not, 3rd party app like a book reader.
Is "Adaptive Colors" off in Color Scheme Settings?
If yes.. maybe refund/replace your phone, if it's a hardware problem...
Can you take a picture of the device showing the yellow tint? It definitely doesn't sound normal, but could be a software issue

the picture can't show the issue, but it is like you set the color temperature to warm or turning on night light/reading mode.

it is off. temperature is at default, and setting it to cool didn't fix it either. I guess I'll ask for a replacement.
If you are talking about white looking yellowish; here's what to do:
1- Go to settings > display > colour scheme
2 - Choose advanced settings
3 - Choose enhanced
4- Go to R (red) set it to about 75% and G (green) to 75% as well - Leave blue at a 100%
5- Reduce both value and contrast by about 5-10% ( just a lite slide )
6- Set Gamma to 0% ( slide it all the way to the left)
7- Save changed and report back the difference.
It's 6am, and screen is slowly reducing the yellow tint. look like this have scheduled reading mode, even though I have it disabled.
Turns out the night mode configuration was from my previous device and restored by google to my new poco f3.
I used SystemUI Tuner to disable the hidden night mode settings.

Hi! I got my Poco F3 yesterday and currently encountering the same problem. I've already downloaded SystemUI tuner and enabled ADB. But where can I turn off this hidden night mode?

Unbelievable, it's really better, white is white.
I just bought this phone, is it a hardware defect ? (should I return it?)

I had this problem too, what @azeunkn0wn suggested worked for me (when the screen turned yellow at night)
Without root:
1. Enable ADB like this in the developer option
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Reboot the phone to apply the changes
3. Disable night display option with the commands:
- adb shell settings put secure night_display_activated 0
- adb shell settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 0
4. Reboot the phone to apply the changes
And it should be good
Note: if it doesn't work, check also:
Settings - Accessibility - Vision - Color correction - Off
